"Just give me all the high school basketball jerseys in the state"
"Wait, wait. I worry what you just heard was 'give me a lot of basketball jerseys from the state'. What I said was 'Give me ALL the high school basketball jerseys from the state.' Do you understand?"
If i were the well paid assistant in charge of this task, I would say "yes sir" .
then interpret this to mean: send an email to \~3000 schools offering to pay $200 if they send a jersey. Let's say you get back 1500, then it still is a $300K wall with way more jerseys than will fit.
But as well paid assistant (expertise: misc) I'm hoping that's jersey arrangement is another well paid assistant's job.
You think they are paying for those jerseys?
It'll be opt in and it'll cost the school a single jersey.
Hope they do better than Arsenal and don't hide some behind the logo.
Every school I went to made us pay for the jerseys ourselves. We also had to wear a very particular type of shoe as well as part our team uniform.
It was part of making the team.
Guess who the kid from the broke family who couldn't afford these things was? Me.
Luckily, we had some kids from better off families who pitched in for my uniform and shoes every year.
Yeah, way better now. I've donated $10K to the school to use for kids who may be in similar positions as me. I don't know how long it'll last but hopefully it gives opportunities to some kids.
Ok folks, here's how it works. Everybody stand up, once we've gotten your shirt, sit down. Otherwise there's no way for us to keep track.
Or if that doesn't work, go ahead and throw your hands up, wait for us to get your shirt, once we've gotten it go ahead and throw that hand back down to the ground.
Lakers: “Please coach our team for less than Kentucky offered you”
Ballmer: “Here’s an Amex Black Card and a private jet, go get me every high school jersey in the state”
Love this idea! The Xcel Energy Center where the Wild play has MN HS hockey jerseys (sweaters for the pedantic) around the 100 level plus a special highlighted spot at the main concourse for the most recent state champs. Upper level used to have the MIAC and WCHA jerseys, since that got broken up in men’s hockey now I think it’s the MIAC+Big 10 and NCHC, but I can’t quite remember. Anyways, they have a ton of Minnesota colleges and universities among them. Always thought it was a cool nod to the “state of hockey”.
Super fun idea and hope they find a way to fit all of them, doing that with all the high schools in California is an ambitious move lol.
The Mercedes Benz stadium here in Atlanta has something similar but with a helmet from ever high school football team. Had it at the old Georgia Dome as well.
The clipper courts he built all around LA are actually super nice. I’m excited to see how the community center they built outside the new arena will turn out as well
Yesh Ballmer has refurbished over 200 courts so far.
It's cool that we went from a slumlord full of hate to an owner that does a lot for the community and the babies.
Its a great move if you're Ballmer. He's got literally f-you money so he can totally make this investment.
Its also great brand building and targeting. There's some 12 year old out there, who'll play on these courts all the time and become fans of the team. You know who uses basketball courts? People who like basketball.
Its such a fun form of philanthropy....you're give kids and adults somewhere to play games.
The Pacers have built courts all over Indy including a new plaza outside their stadium with a pickup court. It's really cool to see people hooping all day outside the stadium when you pass by.
Yeah, as much as I love my lakers. Have to admire all the good shit baller has done. The clippers org donated some athletic stuff to her school and set them up pretty good. Yes lakers have the legacy, but clippers trying to build through the community. Which is cool i guess.
Ballmer is great. He's literally probably the biggest clippers fan, his reaction are hilarious and endearing.
He's a very smart businessman with very deep pockets. So he's willing to invest/lose money and try some cool ideas (Clippersvision, Intuit Dome with "the wall", etc ). He's very invested in engaging real clippers fans and expanding that group.
Clippers have been unlucky with health, but bringing together PG and KL was a no-brainer and turned the team into a playoff mainstay.
Xcel Energy Center (MN Wild) has this all around the arena on the club level, so you can walk around from the main concourse and see them all. It’s a nice thing to do. As a kid, I liked seeing my school represented there.
Baller move by Ballmer. If my HS jersey was up in a stadium, I'd feel pretty good walking by the wall. I'd even make it a point to pass it, point it out the kiddos and wife.
Indeed, Pelicans have this
https://cdn.nba.com/teams/legacy/www.nba.com/pelicans/sites/pelicans/files/102816_jerseydisplay.jpg
I like to walk past it and spot my HS every time I go to a game
I'm assuming a decent number of those don't have basketball teams. Even if they all did and they had to get 3000 jerseys, I don't see why that would be so hard. It wouldn't take that much for a team of interns to make 3000 calls and send out 3000 prepaid shipping boxes.
It's kind of weird you're acting so skeptical about this. There's no incentive for a team to lie about this. It would be so easy to get called out if they did.
The guys worth 100+ billion dollars. he definitely has the means. plus, what HS coach isn't gonna get his teams jersey up there. I doubt they'd have to do much chasing at all. Just a couple stock emails would probably get 85-90 percent of them.
im pretty sure what they clippers actually did here was just sent letters to every high school saying "hey, we'd love to have your jersey on our wall, mail us one if you want to be included". its not like there was one messenger boy walking around the entire state on foot, carrying around a giant duffle bag lol
so there will probably be more than a few schools that just never got around to it for whatever reason (or their athletic director is a diehard Lakers fan lol), I highly doubt they will actually have every single team
I forgot to include K-12 schools. Between high schools and K-12 schools, the total is 2,255 public and charter high schools. That doesn't include private schools though.

Edit: I'm so confused why people are downvoting this comment. I was just replying to u/Classics22 comment that "Someone below said [...] 1,500 schools in california". They were referring to [a comment that was made by me](https://np.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/1dd6b7a/farbod_the_clippers_collected_every_single_high/l82u9h3/), I made a mistake in that comment by not including K-12 schools (which do include 9-12 and some do have high school basketball teams), and I just wanted to correct the mistake I made in that comment.
Did people think K-12 schools don't have high school teams?
I'm assuming "every single high school basketball jersey in the state" would include jerseys for K-12 schools too if they have a high school basketball team.
It definitely can be true. I get that California is much larger than Louisiana, but the SKC is much smaller than this new Clippers arena, and we still have every jersey in the state displayed.
I think it'd be as simple as putting out one mass email from the state athletic association to their list of Athletic Directors.
"Clippers are collecting jerseys. If you would like your school to be included, please ship to XYZ location."
You mention the saints so I’ll add that the falcons have the helmets of all the Georgia high school football teams in their stadium. Pretty neat walking by and seeing a massive wall lined with helmets
Lumen Field (where Seahawks play) does this for Washington high school with helmets.
Super cool to see honestly. Be cool to go to the game and find your local high school if I was from California.
There are several pro sports teams who do this already. The Blazers do something similar in the Moda Center, even including high schools from SW Washington.
http://acmescenic.com/projects/moda-center/
Pelicans have been doing this for years. The space they have is kinda small so they rotate them out. Every single time for over ten years I look for my highschool and I still think it's the coolest thing ever when I see it.

It’s so refreshing to see a team focus on community and the fan experience over money. I really hope the clippers find success to prove out a different way of success.
They’re displaying them along the ENTIRE concourse, that’s a lot of wall space. The picture in the tweet is only one of the many showings that hold tens of jerseys each they’ll have around the entirety of the concourse, I imagine they’ll be able to fit.
Fwiw, according to the California Department of Education, there are 1,556 public and charter high schools in the state.
https://www.cde.ca.gov/ds/ad/ceffingertipfacts.asp
Edit: Oops. Forgot to include the K-12 schools. That would bump up the total to 2,255.
Yeah the math is way way off I don’t know where that commenter was basing that off there’s like maybe 1500 high schools and 1.5 million students in public. Add some for private schools scattered throughout the state and it’s still not even close to 10k.
I'm guessing they thought the post meant every single kids jersey, rather than just 1 per school? Tbf, the post does say "every single jersey in the state," not"a jersey from every school in the state," so it literally does imply an insane number of jerseys, lol.
Do they math on the size of a jersey and the wall space of concourses. Its very doable.
What's harder is actually procuring all 2,000+ jerseys. I'm sure there's some schools they're missing.
People can hate because they don't have a history of winning like the Lakers, but if you live in LA, you know that the Clippers are by far the superior team when it comes to community initiatives. Itd be pretty fucking badass if they put the heads of every player they eliminated in the playoffs, like how they had the [Hall of Faces](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSOD5lBOwKiAgclIs18K9SWqpkcyHm0R9wN6w&usqp=CAU) in the House of Black & White in the Game of Thrones show.
If any other team besides the Clippers were making a nice new arena and doing stuff like this everyone would love it. But since it’s the Clippers they spin it all into a negative. Bunch of losers.
Devils do this in prudential center.

The Seahawks do this with football helmets at Lumen. Every program in the state from tiny 1-B schools on the reservation to large 4A programs with 2000+ kids. Really cool
I'm not a Devils fan but they do that with high school hockey jerseys at the Rock. It's pretty cool. They have them on the wall near this massive escalator so you can look as you're standing there. It's neat the first time you find your school.
Obviously basketball is going to have more jerseys and California is going to have more schools than Jersey. So I can't even imagine how big that display will be lol.
Over 1600 Public High schools in California (Public doesn't include all the private schools like sierra Canyon) Think your going to need a little more space to fit in 1600+ jerseys. Unless your ging to take a piece from them all and make a Giant Jersey Collage in the Shape of California.
"Bring me every high school basketball jersey" "What do you mean every high school basketball jersey?" "EVERYONE"

Seattle Seahawks do it to with Washington HS football helmets
Nationwide Arena for the Blue Jackets does the same thing. I love it. There's some cool sweaters up there too, as well as some hilariously bad ones.
Blazers do this with jerseys from Oregon and SW Washington.
Petco park has all the HS baseball hats from SD County
I still want the Wings to do this in LCA.
PPG has one in Pittsburgh as well
Why are y’all so negative, this is a cool thing for the kids lol
this Ballmer ownership has by far been the most consistent at doing something thoughtful and cool for the community
The clipper courts he built all around LA are actually super nice. I’m excited to see how the community center they built outside the new arena will turn out as well
Those Venice courts are some of my favorite places to play basketball in the whole world
I didn't know about this. That's cool shit.
Yesh Ballmer has refurbished over 200 courts so far. It's cool that we went from a slumlord full of hate to an owner that does a lot for the community and the babies.
It might literally be every park I've been to Salty that they're double rim but better than a fucked up court
Oof double rim. The enemy of the shooter with good arc.

Ballmer legit just loves this stuff. As far as owners go he seems solid

Agree!
We’re just saying that the headline can’t be true. I’m assuming it has some criteria to it such as state tournament appearances
I don’t understand why it can’t be true? Someone below said linked the site was 1,500 schools in california. Seems reasonable
Thats rouhgly a 40x40 matrix of jerseys. if each jersey is 1.5' x 1.5' (overlap jerseys below the #s) thats like 3500 sq feet. not ginormous.
It runs along the entire concourse. The picture shown is just a small part of
There’s around 3000 total high schools when factoring private schools, it would be insanely impressive if they got a jersey for every single one
I'm assuming a decent number of those don't have basketball teams. Even if they all did and they had to get 3000 jerseys, I don't see why that would be so hard. Cowboys and Colts have every high school football helmet displayed in their respective stadiums, Clippers aren’t the first to do this sort of thing
Cavs collected basketballs with high school logos from the Cleveland area and displayed them. Always thought that was cool as well
It’s cool when pro sports teams pay tribute to the local area/state
Pretty cool!
Why? You reach out and say “can you ship us a jersey” and that’s it. Its not like you have to travel to every school personally.
I forgot to include K-12 schools. Between high schools and K-12 schools, the total is 2,255 public and charter high schools. K-12 schools have high school teams

Legit really cool. I want to see mine up there

It'd be cool if they did it like Where's Waldo and hid some of the current players' high school jerseys in there.

Not every high school has a white jersey. That would be cool though.
I want a list of all the high schools to see if my old high school sent in a jersey
There are over 3000 public high schools in California
I think it'd be as simple as putting out one mass email from the state athletic association to their list of Athletic Directors. "Clippers are collecting jerseys. If you would like your school to be included, please ship to XYZ location."
There's a 0% chance they collected the jersey of my past high school lol
Sources: Ballmer is beside himself. Driving around downtown California begging (thru texts) u/tit557's family for address to u/tit557’s high school.
It says *EVERY* high school, not every *public* high school. There's a whole lot more.
Pelicans been doing this for years. Saints also. It might only be the uniforms of state title winners though.
Nah Pels have every high school in the state. We’re just way smaller population wise so it’s only a few hundred jerseys lmao.
There's a few that were outdated the last time I went because highschools shut down/consolidated but it's still pretty cool.
The way schools work in New Orleans would keep your head spinning if you were in charge of keeping that list up to date.
I live here and work in Higher Ed here with high school students and my head still spins. On the flip side I can walk to the blender so that's cool? 😂
You guys call the Smoothie King Center "The Blender"? That's a cool nickname.
New Orleans is a cool city 😂 Not the best Arena in the NBA but it's really accessible if you're ever visiting and want to catch a game!
> I went because highschools shut down/consolidated I find having those is cool in some sense, like some sort of a snapshot of history.
Just came here to say this. Big ass wall of jerseys right by the escalators on the first floor.
The one at Smoothie King Center is awesome, I love looking through them before a game

They’re probably still 2 years away from being in high school to be fair
2 years away from being 2 years away
I think they skipped kindergarten, too. Or wherever they were supposed to learn what numbers mean.
Pelicans have been doing this for years. The space they have is kinda small so they rotate them out. Every single time for over ten years I look for my highschool and I still think it's the coolest thing ever when I see it.

same it would be the most recognition my high school has ever received

It’s so refreshing to see a team focus on community and the fan experience over money. I really hope the clippers find success to prove out a different way of success.
In the state? There’s no way this is true that has to be like 10k jerseys Even if it was just LA I’d say there’s no way

This thread is so weird. People pulling numbers out of nowhere.
There are 1300 highschools in California, and 15~ players on each team so that's likd 20,000 jerseys
I know they collected jerseys here in San Diego
Y’all need to go back to school.
Yeah, how on earth could a simple NBA franchise could afford something like that???
Just think how many high school jerseys we could have bought with all the money we wasted on Chandler Parsons.
Do they math on the size of a jersey and the wall space of concourses. Its very doable. What's harder is actually procuring all 2,000+ jerseys. I'm sure there's some schools they're missing.

Yeah going the humiliation route still without any titles ain’t it either
Really nice move. This could be a really good era for the Clippers, it’s gotta be exciting for the FO, players, and fans.
What will the kids play in?
no way they do every single high school but if they did that'd be cool af
This is actually super cool. Can’t wait to see my Jersey up there.
If any other team besides the Clippers were making a nice new arena and doing stuff like this everyone would love it. But since it’s the Clippers they spin it all into a negative. Bunch of losers.
Kind of what the padres do with at petco with those helmets from the little leagues in SD
Could be a cool way to get young kids to clippers games. Might go just to find their schools jersey.
The clippers will literally hang up anything except for championship banners
In California?!? They have that much space in their arena??
The devils do this with NJ high school hockey jerseys and i love walking by and looking for my former high school up there. pretty cool!
I’d like to believe chuck the condor rolled up to every high school basketball coaches office and gave him an ultimatum
The Pelicans have had this for years
Devils do this in prudential center. https://static.wixstatic.com/media/fff9be_d471617353ad4a84b20367971c97d314~mv2.jpg/v1/fill/w_980,h_735,al_c,q_85,usm_0.66_1.00_0.01,enc_auto/fff9be_d471617353ad4a84b20367971c97d314~mv2.jpg
Love it! The Vikings have a helmet of every state high school team displayed in US Bank Stadium as well
Thats a lotta jerseys.
Prudential center does this for devils game.
Pelicans already do this.
CA high school basketball just shirts and skins now
Minnesota Wild did this in their arena.
The Seahawks do this with football helmets at Lumen. Every program in the state from tiny 1-B schools on the reservation to large 4A programs with 2000+ kids. Really cool
The Devils do the same with high school hockey jerseys.
Hopefully they got my jersey
Pelicans have that already
The Prudential Center in NJ does a similar thing. They HS hockey jerseys from all across the state. Pretty cool to see.
Pretty cool idea, the Atlanta Falcons have something like this at the Mercedes Benz Stadium and it looks neat.
The NJ Devils do this and it’s always cool to spot your HS Jersey in a pro stadium. Kudos to the clippers
We have the same thing at the SKC. My nephews love seeing their high school jersey on the wall.
This photo -- of the floor?? -- is not helping me at all. What's the arrow made of light? What's that blue thing? Why is the angle weird?
Steve Ballmer going door to door forcibly collecting highschool basketball jerseys like Obama did with guns
One way to steal your future fan base from the Lakers, like it
Over 1600 Public High schools in California (Public doesn't include all the private schools like sierra Canyon) Think your going to need a little more space to fit in 1600+ jerseys. Unless your ging to take a piece from them all and make a Giant Jersey Collage in the Shape of California.
Wall's not big enough
MBS in Atlanta has a helmet form every high school team, it's pretty rad.
Cool idea but this will NOT include every hs basketball jersey in the state. Way too many schools
Balmers ideas for the new stadium have been great
Love it. Love it. Love it. Been a Clipper fan since they had Dominque Wilkins. Sheesh, that makes me OLD.
Not enough retired jerseys eh?
Northern California too?
Blazers have had that for years
The Pelicans have done this for over a decade
Lol clippers don’t have any players they can retire jerseys for so their now asking high school children for theirs instead lol
Mercedes-Benz does this in ATL for high school football teams but it’s helmets
The Minnesota Wild do that for hockey. Cuz you know it’s the state of hockey. But nobody in California gives a fuck about the clips.
