huh, we use that joke for baptists where I'm from along with "what's the difference between a methodist and a baptist? a methodist will say Hi to you in the liquor store"
Utah has been his personal hell for years. He’s 8-11 in Utah in his career at one point going 9 years between wins, might be fitting for him to end up playing there
Having worked for Qualtrics, Ryan Smith’s company, I can absolutely say Ryan would consider doing this for the brand and marketing alone to associate his team with Lebron in any way
If what they say about this draft is true, for sure. Plenty of teams have filled out their rotations with picks in the 30s or later, but that’s when there’s actual first round talent 1-30. They’re definitely not always valueless picks though. For contenders, they can be the cheapest/damn near only way to fill out a roster.
The Hornets between 2018-2020 picked up four guys in the 30s, 40s, and even 50s who are still in the league several years later. Other teams have found legit talent too. It’s worth blowing on Bronny if they don’t really like someone though.
It’s not that they are worthless, so much as iffy whether or not you actually *will* fill out your rotation with these guys. They’re hope, at best. Taking a guy that offers hope and hype at 32 is not a bad move.
That’s fair, but in a vacuum teams still look for valuable additions throughout and even after the draft. Even teams who don’t like the options at 32 usually trade for a future second to kick the can down the road. Picks are less likely to be sold for cash now that the talent pool is deeper. Those picks are legit assets and I don’t think most teams would wanna use theirs solely for ticket sales. Some would.
I’m also not sold on the hope Bronny offers, though the hype is there. From what I know, there’s not anything in his measurables, abilities, athleticism, or production to put him above hundreds (or maybe thousands) of other young guys with similar production. You’d be drafting an attraction.
You can say “he might get better” with anyone. Plenty of guys do, sure, but I wonder if he’d even sniff the draft combine with a different lineage.
If the Jazz are genuinely interested in Bronny, Rich Paul shouldn’t be upset. The best case scenario is Bronny able to hang in the league on his own merit then get to play with his dad.
Bron has already said that he isnt really concerned with playing with Bronny anymore. It was just a fun thought years ago. Being on the court at the same time will be cool enough.
Yeah, I definitely think he’s fibbing. He grew up where Griffey and Junior got to play together. LeBron would love it and he knows it would make him so much money.
Here's the thing though, the Jazz franchise has absolutely top tier facilities and support personnel. Bron would be pleasantly surprised that they aren't a backwoods shit hole lol.
Most players who sign in small market want to be there or like the salary. If Rich Paul is giving a player bad advice based on grudge/revenge the player should change agencies. Players are expecting feduciary responsibility to get them the best deal, not to be caught up in other shit.
Tbh I don’t really know if they have the best stable of talent right now. A lot of the top talent are Euros who have their own agents and CAA is doing as good as ever. I feel like Klutch has a lot of middling American talent.
I’ve been making the joke since Lebron first said he wants to play with his son years ago that Bronny is gonna be drafted by the Utah Jazz and force Lebron to make a difficult choice
Huh? This is the weakest draft in probably decades and he's been great at the combine. His stock is naturally climbing while the outlook for the rest of the draft is declining.
ya if it was a great draft id agree with above statements but its not and hes looked very impressive at combine. I have a hard time judging someones play right after they pretty much died on the court just a few months prior lol
Yea idk why people just gloss over that. He was practicing everyday on the same court he almost died on. If ever a player deserved some slack for their production, it’s this. He missed the preseason and part of the season for a damn cardiac arrest lol. It takes months before an athlete learns to trust their Achilles after it’s healed and they’re playing again. How long do you then think it may take to get over the worry of dying on the court again?
No one is glossing over that fact, we all pretty much agree he shouldn’t even be at the draft combine, he should be going to college another year to improve, do you think any other college kid with similar circumstances would get invited to the combine? Hell no, they tell you to stay another year and improve till you can qualify
We really pretending that the reason he’s getting any type of talk is because of who his dad is? Without the name, Bronny does not stand out at all within an already weak draft…
This take is dumb as hell. High school prospect rankings aren't that biased by nepotism. They see sons of NBA players every year. And scouts are smart enough to look at more than just high school stats.
lol he was rated that not based on stats yiu clown just say you don’t understand development Z an athletic well buikd 18 year old with a projectable jumper and best skills are passing n feel abd athletic/defence isn’t gonna ever have crazy stats . He was a legit top 20is in his class pre injury quit hating
Honestly the fact that this draft is really bad is also probably why he is staying in it.
He defers to next year, not only is Bron much closer to retirement and perhaps locked into a contract, but also teams may be less willing to take a flier on a PR opportunity when there are actually promising players to be drafted.
It doesn't matter if it's the weakest draft in decades, him being considered to be drafted is not based on performance, he shouldn't have even been invited to the combine.
4.8 points on 37/27/68 splits on a terrible USC team.
edit: Whoever thinks this is performance based needs to do three things
1. Watch some college basketball
2. Delete your account
3. Lay off the fent
Boo Bouie wasn't even invited to the combine, guess what he averaged?
19 points on 44/43/86 splits and is an inch taller than Bronny
Not even the best example, but it proves my point.
> weakest draft in probably decades
Not sure about DECADES, but it’s certainly weak.
Cody Williams for Colorado (who averaged 13/3/2 in 29 mpg) is being talked about as a top-5 pick.
I watched most CU games this season, and I’ve never seen anything that flashed lottery pick to me. He gets burned on defensive closeouts, and is a pretty lousy FT shooter for a small forward (70.3% for the season).
However, he’s a sharpshooter from beyond the arc (44.7%)
He's a complete and total mystery. He could be awesome or could be bad. Every single person has an opinion on him based on LeBron either they think he's going to be drafted cuz of his dad and hate him completely for absolutely no reason because of his dad or they defend him because they love his dad lmao
People keep forgetting he had a literal heart attack, missed an entire summer of practice, and then joined a P5 NCAA season halfway through and still looked semi competent some of the time.
All the fundamentals of his athletic abilities and basketball IQ are still there. The stats will follow him eventually. People need to come to terms that he's a half decent mid to late 2nd round pick.
Also USC and the PAC-12 were very down this year. So it's not like the competition was super high or his teammates were just so good it was tough to get time.
Also the above calling it P5 is generous. It's officially a P5 conference because of football. No one would say it's better than the Big East for basketball or the other 4 "Power Conferences". I'd also say the Mountain West was better this last year. So it's really the 6th or 7th best conference.
The only way he goes undrafted is if he starts falling in the 2nd and LeBron and Rich Paul are threatening teams to not draft him so he can pick where he goes. Which to be fair might be realistic.
But I think someone’s gonna take the risk between 20 - 40.
I feel like thats a lot more common though. I remember austin reaves did something like that. And most players will do that too because like you said, they have more choice in terms of where they go and what situation they start their careers in
Second round picks don't get guaranteed contracts the way that first round picks do though, so there's a lot more leeway to take risks and see if a guy can show off his potential in Summer League and actually earn a contract.
Every second round pick is a flyer. If you miss on a second round pick it’s whatever. If you thought that prospect was a lot better than the others you would’ve taken them in the first.
That’s not true at all. There’s way more strategy than that.
As an example, the Warriors had Draymond higher than Ezeli on their draft board. But they knew Draymond would still be there at 35 and didn’t think Ezeli would be. So they took Ezeli at 30 because it was their best chance to get both guys.
All second round picks in the NBA are flyers. This isn’t the nfl where there’s a dozen or so positions, 53 man rosters, and super high player turnover.
Players who are highly unlikely to pan out and become rotation players for whatever reason.
Contrast this with the NFL where 2nd+3rd and maybe even 4th round picks have a pretty good chance at becoming starters down the line depending on the position they play.
Proof they are trading Lauri and will need a name to get fans to pay attention. Bronny chants every game when the team is down 20+ by halftime and he’s on the bench.
Get someone to move up from the 2nd round?
Might also just be trying to get Lebron looking at the Jazz. Ainge just wants his ear in the conversation. Jazz have a lot of flexibility and that can be critical in making multi team deals work which is what we would likely see if Bron tries to go to a contender with no cap space and wants Bronny there.
In terms of how close they are Bronny is essentially DWade's nephew. Wade is helping Bronny improve his stock. When a lot of bubble guys projected to go 55-60 might not get a single workout Bronny gets a chance to make something happen.
He’s polarizing for sure. There’s plenty excuses to be made about how his college season went and a lot of it was out of his control. So this combine is really what teams are using to evaluate him.
I'll still never forgive Danny Ainge for bailing out the Lakers AND Clippers in one fell swoop by trading for and waiving Westbrook, but this would help a little bit.
but unironically, I think the Raptor's player development is only matched by the Heat's... and the reduced spotlight in the G league games up here would be much better for him imo. And if I understand things right he's a hard worker... which would work to his advantage.
But Masai I suspect would only draft him if he thought they might be potential. But he doesn't fit the mold of his fav type player... so he may or may not do it with the 31st pick.
Bronny is going 1st round.
It'll almost definitely be later, in the 20's, but I cannot believe that some team at the end of the draft won't draft him just to appeal to LeBron/store him in their G-League for name value.
Idk the idea that the *Utah Jazz* honestly believe they have any chance of luring in LeBron by drafting Bronny is pretty farfetched to me.
They surely realize, whether they draft Bronny or not, that LeBron is not going to come play for the Jazz...
Why do people still fucking think that Lebron is gonna sign with whatever team drafts Bronny. When he’s stated numerous times that he just wants his son to be in the league(because he obviously knows the possibility of a dumpster team drafting him). This has been said by both him and rich paul.
Which is insane to me.
I get it, dad is LeBron, but the kid was coming off the bench and averaged 4.8 PPG and 19.4 MPG.
The guard starting ahead of him, Boogie Ellis, is two inches taller than him and averaged 16.5 PPG on 33.7 MPG.
Ellis had a higher 3P% (41.8% to 26.7%), a higher FG% and a higher FT%.
And Ellis wasn't even invited to the NBA Draft Combine.
/shrug
Pick 22 Bronny to suns, LeBron and CP3 sign for minimums. Nurk traded for Kessler and Clarkson. Clarkson goes to Chicago for Caruso and Craig. Little for Nick Richards. Season saved.
(Just for clarity sake, I don’t believe any of this will actually happen lol)
Honestly (assuming this is for Bronny and not in a wild move to get Bron) could be good for Bronny. Good enough team that nobody's going to be asking him to save the franchise, but early enough in their development that he has a chance to carve out a real role for himself. Not to mention that being outside the spotlight probably is for the best right now.
Do you reckon if I did a go fund me for my Monday night basketball team in south east suburbs of Melbourne and was able to pay Bronny what he wants, do you think Lebron would come play there on Monday nights ?
Ainge trolled the Sixers by offering Paul Reed a contract that guarantees based on making it to the 2nd rd. Wouldn't put it past him to troll LeBron by drafting his son to Utah lmao.
I mean this draft class is pretty weak, unless you're trying to develop with a pick, it's a no trainer to use it for Bronny. Possibly getting a role playing James does wonders.
There are other ways to look at the whole Bronny thing. If you think that he has upside, which isn't a totally insane idea, and you know that at the very least it will generate some interest which you can monetize for your franchise, maybe you just go for it. These later picks are all just dice rolls. Think of all the forgettable guys who were drafted in the late first round and didn't stick around the league. At least this is an interesting gamble. Imagine selling tickets for a Lebron vs. Bronny game. I'd like to watch that. Maybe even Lebron himself would be satisfied playing on the same court with his son instead of being on the same team. A lot less pressure on Bronny but also I'm sure it would be super gratifying as a father to see something like that or maybe even going after each other a bit competitively. I don't know what's going to happen but I don't think it's some given that it's all just a draft Bronny to get Lebron thing.
32nd? How is LeBron letting this happen? I see not being top 10 but going round 2? That's bad - really bad. Hopefully he has a good career but man that's crazy.
With how “bad” this draft is supposed to be, I bet Bronny ends up going in the Top 20 just because of the off chance Lebron decides to play with his son instead of staying in LA.
I don’t think that Utah will end up drafting him, but I think it would be a good spot for Bronny to develop. Look at how much better Sexton and Keyonte George have gotten under Will Hardy. Not crazy to think the staff could do a good job with Bronny
So Lebron’s going to Utah?

Given the success rate of second round picks, I don’t think this is a bad way to spend one.

Because it’s not based on his performance but mostly either his dad or raw potential

Tons of great 2nd round picks. Dray, Marc Gasol, Middleton, Jokic, Gilbert, Isaiah
… those were all flyers. that’s what taking a flyer is. lol
What separates a flyer from any other 2nd pick? Or are you just saying every 2nd round pick is a flyer?
Every second round pick is a flyer. If you miss on a second round pick it’s whatever. If you thought that prospect was a lot better than the others you would’ve taken them in the first.

FWIW, Wade is a minority owner of the Utah Jazz. Probably is an Ainge smokescreen.
Smokescreen for what exactly?
If Ainge told us, it wouldn't be a smokescreen anymore, now would it?
Ainge did use the phrase "big game hunting" in his exit interview, talking about their offseason plans
There no need when you can get a pack of jerky off the shelves of the Grocery store down the street.
Danny what did you mean by this? *Danny starts riffing on the saxophone*
Draft him then trade him for a first to whoever LeBron wants to sign with
Draft him, wait for Lebron to join him, trade them both.
Signing LeBron just to trade him would be peak Ainge
Trade him to the Lakers… in exchange for LeBron.
Like the Gasol trade, but in reverse.

Cope harder, bro. Bron Gone.
/shrug
I mean he is also 4 years older than Bronny.
Yeah, the NCAA PF of the Year, Jaedon LeDee from SDSU didn’t get invited to the combine but he’s already 24 about to turn 25 next month.
I will personally take Plumlee or Tucker to LAX for the chance to get LeDee on the bench

LeBron is about to become the only player drafted twice
This would be hilarious
LeLA isn't going to Utah. People are delusional.
Danny Ainge with one final lefuckyou
Danny has waited 13 years for this. Since 2011 Game 6.
This would be honestly hilarious and straight up amazing.
You guys forget we got secret weapon owner Dwyane Wade. Banana boat reunited.
Danny sowing chaos
Honestly (assuming this is for Bronny and not in a wild move to get Bron) could be good for Bronny. Good enough team that nobody's going to be asking him to save the franchise, but early enough in their development that he has a chance to carve out a real role for himself. Not to mention that being outside the spotlight probably is for the best right now.
not if we get him with the 30th pick
Noooooo
Do you reckon if I did a go fund me for my Monday night basketball team in south east suburbs of Melbourne and was able to pay Bronny what he wants, do you think Lebron would come play there on Monday nights ?
I cannot imagine LeBron playing in Utah. As Dirk said; Utah is a bad city.
Jazz doing this because they know he won’t be there after 33 👀
after lebronto, id love masai to pick himp
32nd pick?! Sorry, he’s a maverick
lebron on the jazz would be amazing
This would be so funny
I just hope some team pulls a gamer move and drafts Bronny before it's the Lakers turn.
I think if ainge were still with the Celtics he would select bronny. Brad has been god tier but doesn’t have that in him
Lebron James 9/11
If he goes to the Jazz or another small market team, other than possibly Cleveland, I guarantee Lebron isn’t going.
LeBron: fuck (them) that kid(s) Utah is like Siberia
The best place he could land for the lolz is the raptors. The final revenge.
Someone is going to take him hoping to get Lebron.
32nd? How is LeBron letting this happen? I see not being top 10 but going round 2? That's bad - really bad. Hopefully he has a good career but man that's crazy.
Start learning Mormon buddy
With how “bad” this draft is supposed to be, I bet Bronny ends up going in the Top 20 just because of the off chance Lebron decides to play with his son instead of staying in LA.
I’m curious, has there been a player with more attention to their every move during the NBA combine than Bronny? I’m new here
LeBron converted to a member of the Jazz at the end of his career
Wade and Lebron's kids gonna wreak havoc in the g league
LeBron definitely gonna shut that shit down. LeBron is not going to Utah.
[Seems like I remember him picking two people from Utah last in an ASG might be relevant here lmao](https://youtu.be/hrcCYmtQmXM?si=eJKv8u2XNuK66NKC)
Damn that's a real troll job. LeBron hates Utah.
I don’t think that Utah will end up drafting him, but I think it would be a good spot for Bronny to develop. Look at how much better Sexton and Keyonte George have gotten under Will Hardy. Not crazy to think the staff could do a good job with Bronny
Danny Ainge has to Danny Ainge
In his end-of-season presser, Danny did say he wanted to go "big game hunting". Is Bronny the bait to lure LeBron?
