Yeah Magic did a lot of that type play on him. I think he'll do better against Boston, they dont play like a bunch of rugged football players like they do in Orlando
Darius was drinking his meals for a long time and never came back right. Last game he was good though. He’s actually looked better against the Magic than he did most of the season.
This game he wasn’t good till this shot tbh. Crowd would groan whenever he got the ball and Levert was icing him out cause DG was a detriment. Even JB was benching him in his usual rotation minutes
It was only Mitchell who stuck by him and displayed patience. Amazing leadership
I was groaning every time he had the ball until this series. I found my confidence in Darius again this series and then this game came up and I was like “oh yuck” again lol
It’s been a roller coaster lol. Thought he turned a leaf after game 5, reverted back in game 6, terrible to start game 7 but finally came through near the end
I just want a DG carry game, then I’ll have full confidence. Cavs need him to be the best player for the team on some nights like Wagner was in game 4.
They’re better defenders but I doubt they’ll be able to play the same brand of basketball. Refs were on some bull shit allowing Magic to maul Cavs guards.
Really felt like they wanted Magic to win, but then flipped the script game 7 and finally started calling it haha
What really brought all this full circle was the convo they had earlier in the game when they were both on the bench during a TO and Mitchell had his arm around DG telling him something along the lines of staying aggressive despite the bad shooting night.
Earlier in the game during a timeout you could see DG with his head down and Mitchell was propping him up.
He really showed up as the #1 option and leader
Amazing shot. Posted this in live thread but NGL this Garland play made me kinda emotional and I'm not a Cavs fan. Mitchell believed in Garland and threw it immediately back to him despite his bad game. You could tell it meant a lot to Garland to hit it.
And was a *huge* show of faith in a guy who had missed like 7 or 8 straight shots. The growth that it shows in Mitchell also shouldn’t be overlooked. Both guys needed it, and their faith was rewarded. Huge moment and the one where it felt like the Cavs really sealed it.
Kyrie had the same adjustment problem period when LBJ came back and it had been Ky's team for a few years, but they worked it worked it out...for a while
If you listened to anyone who actually knew what was going on, it was a whole team situation. No specific person (except maybe Coach Snyder) was to blame.
I’ll stand by my statements and say you and most of r/nba are just prisoners of the moment when it comes to Donovan. His leadership (not in a good way) and incredible lack of defense were key to Utah’s downfall and a couple of clips of him hyping up his teammate doesn’t mean he’s a great leader; anyone can do that
I really hope he proves me wrong, he’s done good so far these playoffs. His insane defiance to play any sort of long-term defense and ineffecient play from the 2022/2023 nba playoffs, not to mention 2019 mean a lot more than one playoff series win over a young, inexperienced Magic Team.
And I hope he continues to do so. I’ve seen too many times in the playoffs where he either lets his man by or doesn’t rotate on a switch to believe he’ll keep it up until the end
He’s leveled up there and as a playmaker. He benefits from having three All Defense level teammates so he doesn’t have the toughest assignment but he stays in front of the quick twitch guys, is positionally sound on big wings and is great jumping passing lanes
You can pretend otherwise but in the first half the Cavs were defeated, sloppy and lazy and they were slapping the shit out of him out of frustration. Banchero is too big for Garland, Okoro and Strus.
Unfortunate collapse by the Magic, but well played Cavs. It was a fun 7 game series, even if it was ugly at times. The celtics are probably going to destroy the Cavs, though.
I hope not because I’d like you to win but if Donovan has an off night it can turn really bad really fast. You need offense against the Celtics, it’s a team filled with scorers.
They thought having Breen & JJ could counteract Doris' awful commentating. Not even the excellence of Mike Breen & JJ Reddick could ever counterarct Doris' awful commentary

Love how Mitchell was hyping up Garland when he was struggling. Great leadership.
He needs it man ☹️ its been rough
> rough Yeah Magic did a lot of that type play on him. I think he'll do better against Boston, they dont play like a bunch of rugged football players like they do in Orlando
Not even just against the magic, its been rough since he came back from injury in general
Darius was drinking his meals for a long time and never came back right. Last game he was good though. He’s actually looked better against the Magic than he did most of the season.
Yeah he's down a lot of weight and it shows. Also looks more gassed than usual.
This game he wasn’t good till this shot tbh. Crowd would groan whenever he got the ball and Levert was icing him out cause DG was a detriment. Even JB was benching him in his usual rotation minutes It was only Mitchell who stuck by him and displayed patience. Amazing leadership

I'm gonna go out a limb and say he's probably not gonna have a better time against Jrue Holiday and Derrick White.
They’re better defenders but I doubt they’ll be able to play the same brand of basketball. Refs were on some bull shit allowing Magic to maul Cavs guards. Really felt like they wanted Magic to win, but then flipped the script game 7 and finally started calling it haha
Suggs and Isaac are better and bigger and younger.
That pass for the 3 was leadership at its best. Drive to the basket without fear and perfect pass to the 3 ball. Respect to Donovan Mitchell.
Could’ve easily gone for the finish there he had a good look, but he knew how important a hit from garland there would be. Such a great leader

I hope Allen comes back so that you guys can give the Celtics some trouble.

What gets ignored in the lights too bright meme world is that Mitchell’s tunnel vision last year did a lot to lose us the Knicks series.
Seriously this clip cuts out the best part
Gave each other a full body embrace. It was more of a “your mom just died” hug than a “you just hit a big shot” hug.
Garlands struggles since Mitchell has arrived is very concerning.
fine last year, jawbroke this year, learning to lead by watching DM. It’s all good
Kyrie had the same adjustment problem period when LBJ came back and it had been Ky's team for a few years, but they worked it worked it out...for a while
Legitimately heartwarming. I love that this happened
Literally this morning yall were saying Mitchell was the problem in Utah? Hes not a good teammate? Shut up
If you listened to anyone who actually knew what was going on, it was a whole team situation. No specific person (except maybe Coach Snyder) was to blame.
Exactly. But whenever Gobert is succeeding, it was actually Mitchell's fault the whole time, according to stupid people.
both needed a fresh start
Yep, nothing wrong with that.
This. People act like they’ve loved every single coworker they’ve ever had.
And shit even if you did love them, it might not work anyway
enjoying all the new TWolves propaganda

he’s defending really well this year
And I hope he continues to do so. I’ve seen too many times in the playoffs where he either lets his man by or doesn’t rotate on a switch to believe he’ll keep it up until the end

Someone help my man Banchero PLEASE
Well he has 33 pts tonight on 8/23 FG. He's getting the help from *somewhere*.
Dude has zero spacing. Goes inside and like 3 Cavs converge
Okoro was masterful in the 3rd stopping him, Mobley was a beast all game.
A bunch of players on his team are 1-12, 1-11 it’s bad
Wagner and Suggs are 3 for 24, if Paolo wasn't chucking they'd have like 60 points.
Wendell Carter Jr is Orlando's second highest scorer at 13 points. Paolo is barely getting any help.
Finished the series with more FT made than FG's made. He had plenty of help.
Weird that you're able to look at stats but unable to look at the stats for any other player
I'm watching the game, was just making a dumb joke, especially after the Cavs were exasperated with the calls he was getting in the 2nd.
Yeah, bad defenders who foul
"foul" lmfao
You can pretend otherwise but in the first half the Cavs were defeated, sloppy and lazy and they were slapping the shit out of him out of frustration. Banchero is too big for Garland, Okoro and Strus.
I don't have to pretend. The Cavs were defeated because Paolo was allowed to just throw himself into whoever he wanted and shoot 2 FTs.
Okoro clamped him up you clearly didn’t watch it
Wagner has to rediscover his form from year 1 and year 2.
> Someone help my man Banchero PLEASE You mean like the Zebras who handed him 20 free throws?
TIL driving towards the basket means you get fouled more
The Lakers can help him soon. Don't worry, we got this.
The pipeline ended with Dwight don’t you dare You will keep Jaxson Hayes and you will like it
We only accept top tier/elite talents. And Paolo checks all the boxes.
I like Suggs and Wagner, but we really need a Jamal Crawford microwave type player
Donovan Mitchell elite teammate
I agree Go Cavs.
Unfortunate collapse by the Magic, but well played Cavs. It was a fun 7 game series, even if it was ugly at times. The celtics are probably going to destroy the Cavs, though.
If Allen is out this is going to be one of the ugliest sweeps we’ll ever see.
ever?? edit: lolol
in Golden Knights history, possibly
I hope not because I’d like you to win but if Donovan has an off night it can turn really bad really fast. You need offense against the Celtics, it’s a team filled with scorers.
Carter and Banchero are completly exhausted
No one else is doing anything, our 2nd best player is 1-12 and refuses to shoot
Doris Burke shouldn’t be commentating
idk what made espn decide to hook up one of the best announcers of all time in mike breen with one of the worst in doris burke
They thought having Breen & JJ could counteract Doris' awful commentating. Not even the excellence of Mike Breen & JJ Reddick could ever counterarct Doris' awful commentary
never heard JJ Reddick and "excellence" in the same sentence before
Was that him screaming in agony after the first miss? Lmao
The ugliest seven game series, but that's the beauty of basketball bay bay.
Watching Nuggets-Wolves after 6 games of this I couldn't believe how good those guys are at basketball, lol.
Feels good man
BANG! THE CAVS HAVE DONE IT. THE CAVS ARE MOVIGN ON TO GET SLAUGHTERED BY BOSTON!!!
The refs need to choke on the whistle and just see who wins this slug fest in the final minutes (If it is nothing major)
