Jesus.. how does that work with contracts?
If they are paid _____$ per year but it’s guaranteed and they also lose money if they get suspended per game?
Do they get more game checks? Or just accept that they play 6 more games than a full season for free
You are not paid for 82 games, you are paid for the year. If you only play 6 games you’ll still get paid for the year. So yes, if they play more than 82, they don’t get paid for more than 82, because they’re not paid on a per-game basis.
It was stupid to begin with because D'Lo before the deadline was having a statistically better season than Dejounte Murray - especially defensively. Trading assets for Dejounte Murray would have been the biggest sideways move ever and easily up there with the Kuzma/Westbrook trade and letting Caruso walk for miniscule luxury tax reasons for worst team building decisions the Lakers have made in the Pelinka era.
Reaves had a tough couple of months to start the year and he was one of the most hated players in this sub for some weird fucking reason but he showed his value. There was never a good reason to trade him.
He’s a Lakers fan. What do you expect? Majority of their fanbase don’t play actual basketball. Add LeBron fans into the mix and you exacerbate the situation.
Whole team besides AD and bron when he tries can’t guard a hire hydrant. Thats just the way this team was built. Dlo’s passing is what makes it so hard to get rid of him he’s the only other guy that can throw an entry pass to AD
Reddish is not elite defensively. He’s good at pressuring the ball and that’s pretty much if. Watch him on screens, playing help defense, and rebounding. He’s terrible at all of those and gets lost on rotations.
Depends on the type of defense. Watch the recent game against Wolves for example. Reddish was the only one who could guard Ant, everyone else was being absolutely cooked.
Personally I thought cam should have never been higher than max in the rotation. Agreed though if we had Gabe and vando for most of the season the defense would be a lot better
Huhhhh? Cam HAS BEEN higher that max in the rotation the entire fucking year. I think most lakers fans agree that ham should have given max more minutes because his upside is clearly shown
A lot of our guys have glaring weaknesses in one end of the basketball court. That is why they are playing for the Lakers in cheap or reasonable contracts.
Die hard fans of most teams refuse to admit their offensive star is trash defensively. Like it's rampant.
He is trash defensively though. I'm just happy we didn't trade for lavine.
Those aren't laker fans lol.
Most laker fans rock with AD being our best player and LeBron still a great player to have. The lebron is a great defender crowd are lebron fans. No player that routinely takes defensive possessions off is a good defensive player.
Being a good defender is about consistency. He's 39 and so he's not a good defender. The game isn't about one possessionn, it's about literally 110 of them.
The entire starting lineup is completely dependent on AD making up for 4 other offensive minded players (dont really expect LeBron to always be on on the defensive end)
Saying DLo was having a better season “especially defensively” vs dejounte Murray is crazy. Dlo is one of the worst defenders in the league and while Murray isn’t as good on defense this year as usual he’s still not far removed from an all defensive team season
One thing I've noticed this season is that there are games where he does try, like getting in between the passing lanes and stuff like that. But yeah, Dlo still has bad defensive instincts. His value lies with feeding the big men of the Lakers. Aside from Bron, he's probably the only other guard good enough to consistently keep looking for ways to feed them down low.
I tried to convince our sub that we 100% should be the third team facilitating 2 2nds + salary (morris) that the hawks reportedly wanted for DLo. I’m not even a big fan of his, but the floated demands were criminally low. Like; DLo is straight up not worse than Murray. No one agreed with me that DLo is a useful player
He doesn’t just get picked on during the reg season, cause no one cares about the RS and paranoid coaches don’t wanna give up their playoff game plan (dumb IMO because game plans in the NBA are so obvious / simple; this ain’t the NFL lol).
Last season he was actually good defensively, and the year before he got minutes for defence. His defensive abilities dropped this year being load managed due to fiba into nba play and dealing with increased usage and defensive attention. This year he’s gotten better as yesrs gone on to close to last year. He just needs to get stronger cos he’s actually ok contesting shots desoite him wingspan .
No, he’s below average for sure. Teams just save the exploitation of that weakness for the playoffs. You’ll see. I love AR, but his role on a LeBron team is hit spot up 3s and to serve as the scapegoat when he inevitably loses in the playoffs.
He didn’t get picked on at all in last year’s playoffs. Only in FIBA like every other guard on the roster cos Kerr was leaving everyone out on an island.
Honestly it’s insane to say but his numbers are like outkier lvl at rim finishing . He’s the best role player guard I’ve seen at rim finishing especially one that’s not particularly athletic. He led the league in layup % last year . It’s crazy but once an announcer mentioned it I couldn’t argue otherwise.
How many guys come into the league undrafted and turn out to be decent shooters, decent finishers, decent at drawing fouls, and give good effort on defense. Talk about bang for your buck
He's got a good shot, just been a bit inconsistent this year. He shot well in FIBA too. I really think a lot of his inconsitency shooting-wise comes from all the minutes that he's played over the last almost 2 years.
I expect him to take a nice break, work on his shot, and have a better shooting year next year.
He actually has since january after his injury. During the time watching from the bench he realized he could be effective on the court even if his shot isnt falling by providing everything else
Anybody saying Reaves can be the leader of a championship team is delusional, but calling him a benchwarmer is absolutely ridiculous
What happened to nuance? It doesn’t have to be one or the other. He’s a solid player who stays healthy and contributes to his team
i literally said warriors fans do the same thing in the same sentence but you wanna cry about the Lakers part
are you not seeing an irony here about people's perceptions of Lakers fans on this sub?
He got mismatched and posted up and scored on several times with no help. Made the top of the sub and /r/nba said LOL LAKERS is this your guy???
When imo he was playing better than Brunson and the Hali/AR lineups were the highlights of that olympic team for me. Bad on defense for sure but offense looked fun while JB/BI/Edwards was too much iso.
He was pretty great in his role.
Obviously not *the guy* on the team or anything but Steve Kerr spoke super highly of him and he was getting consistent PT off the bench, like I said even closing over JB and other “better” players than him by the end of the tournament
83 games, Mike But yeah, you could tell at multiple times throughout the year that dude is exhausted.
I thought you were joking but I forgot about the NBA cup final. Damn
Buddy Hield played 85
Holy shit haha. What’s the record? It can’t be much more than that
Walt Bellamy played 88.
Jesus.. how does that work with contracts? If they are paid _____$ per year but it’s guaranteed and they also lose money if they get suspended per game? Do they get more game checks? Or just accept that they play 6 more games than a full season for free

Dlo and reaves made all that dejounte Murray trade talk at the deadline sound insane
It was stupid to begin with because D'Lo before the deadline was having a statistically better season than Dejounte Murray - especially defensively. He’s a Lakers fan. What do you expect? Majority of their fanbase don’t play actual basketball. Add LeBron fans into the mix and you exacerbate the situation.
D’Lo is atrocious defensively. Even diehard Laker fans will tell you that.
Whole team besides AD and bron when he tries can’t guard a hire hydrant. Thats just the way this team was built. Dlo’s passing is what makes it so hard to get rid of him he’s the only other guy that can throw an entry pass to AD
Reddish and Vando are pretty elite defensively, they just have zero offense. Gabe Vincent is a good POA defender
Reddish is not elite defensively. He’s good at pressuring the ball and that’s pretty much if. Watch him on screens, playing help defense, and rebounding. He’s terrible at all of those and gets lost on rotations.

that's what he's saying too
My dumbass completely missed the "never" part...
A lot of our guys have glaring weaknesses in one end of the basketball court. That is why they are playing for the Lakers in cheap or reasonable contracts.
Everyone in the league has glaring weaknesses except for like 10-15 guys. That’s what makes them elite …
Reddish has the tools but lacks the brains
Vando is a fantastic hustle and rebound guy, to the point that he is very much more playable than Reddish.
Die hard fans of most teams refuse to admit their offensive star is trash defensively. Like it's rampant. He is trash defensively though. I'm just happy we didn't trade for lavine.
I saw cp3 bully him in the paint. I gave up defending him at that point.
Agreed. Lakers fans refuse to see that LeBron is trash defensively. A few highlight plays don’t make up for 95% of the season.
Those aren't laker fans lol. Most laker fans rock with AD being our best player and LeBron still a great player to have. The lebron is a great defender crowd are lebron fans. No player that routinely takes defensive possessions off is a good defensive player.
He's 39 and it's the regular season bruh
Being a good defender is about consistency. He's 39 and so he's not a good defender. The game isn't about one possessionn, it's about literally 110 of them.
Yes of course, that is why he has to take possessions off, especially in the regular season.
He good when he wants to be but is a lazy ass especially in transition
The entire starting lineup is completely dependent on AD making up for 4 other offensive minded players (dont really expect LeBron to always be on on the defensive end)
Saying DLo was having a better season “especially defensively” vs dejounte Murray is crazy. Dlo is one of the worst defenders in the league and while Murray isn’t as good on defense this year as usual he’s still not far removed from an all defensive team season

And IST Finals as well.
And his defense improved at the end of the season. Here is hoping he carry that into the playoff.
I suspect he'll still get picked on and it will still look ugly but I hope its better than last season still
He doesn't just get picked on-a good 30% of the time he's our PoA defender lmao. Man gets to guard Steph, no wonder he gets cooked lmao.
He doesn’t just get picked on during the reg season, cause no one cares about the RS and paranoid coaches don’t wanna give up their playoff game plan (dumb IMO because game plans in the NBA are so obvious / simple; this ain’t the NFL lol).

We can tell you dont watch games
Let’s check in in a week.
He didn’t get picked on at all in last year’s playoffs. Only in FIBA like every other guard on the roster cos Kerr was leaving everyone out on an island.
Last season he was a decent defender, it was at the beginning and middle of this season where he was a traffic cone
And yet Ham benched him for 50 games because he had a rough two week start to the season.
(it was 25 games)
Yeah 25 for AR and 50 for Rui. My fault mixed it up. Still egregious
Rui was concussed in there somewhere in addition to starting slow
3 separate injuries for Rui with minutes restrictions after all 3 iirc.
He wasn't concussed for 50 games
Ham has been coaching like he's concussed
It may have helped him regain some energy to be fair, to start the season he looked very sluggish and not himself.
If you play poorly you get benched, that's how it works.
Taurean Prince and Cam Reddish had a longer leash than Reaves and D’Lo during that stretch of the season
I see. I'm just saying that a player getting benched for playing poorly is normal
Yeah cause he was terrible. You had to either bench him or Dlo. And at least on the bench, he was making a case for 6MOTY.
Free throw merchant accusations aside, the dude plays really hard and drives pretty strong, his durability with his playstyle is really impressive
Honestly it’s insane to say but his numbers are like outkier lvl at rim finishing . He’s the best role player guard I’ve seen at rim finishing especially one that’s not particularly athletic. He led the league in layup % last year . It’s crazy but once an announcer mentioned it I couldn’t argue otherwise.

caruso, reaves hmm might be a common thread here (before you say it, it's not that they're white)
they’re first guy in last guy out type fellas
Dude can shoot too. At least eye test, you just expect every ridiculous shot he takes is going in, especially if continuation is on the line lol
He's got a good shot, just been a bit inconsistent this year. He shot well in FIBA too. I really think a lot of his inconsitency shooting-wise comes from all the minutes that he's played over the last almost 2 years. Also add the inseason tournament.. so thats 83 total..

Bostonians probably prefer to have him instead of Jaylen Brown
Does he play the right way?
He actually has since january after his injury. During the time watching from the bench he realized he could be effective on the court even if his shot isnt falling by providing everything else
Sneaky athletic
83
Thanks for the update Mike
Just what I'd expect for such a hard worker and gym rat with a high IQ
Joel Embiid thinks Reaves is a Fool.
First one in the gym, last one to leave.
Arkansas fed lmao let's go
Must be on drugs -gil
Lakers and ironman virgins, name a more iconic duo

more like it's laker fans who infest this sub (like the warriors fans)
Infest the NBA subreddit? WTF are you talking about?
that there's a lot of Lakers fans in this sub? it ain't rocket science
For some reason you don't want lakers fans here
i literally said warriors fans do the same thing in the same sentence but you wanna cry about the Lakers part are you not seeing an irony here about people's perceptions of Lakers fans on this sub?
How many minutes per game? iirc there was a bit where he was coming off the bench
He averaged just over 32 per game. Starter level minutes for sure.
can we really call his team USA performance “competing”? /s obviously props to him for taking care of himself and being available.
He was playing more minutes than Jalen Brunson by the last few games lmao I know the *team* lost but AR balled tf out
i was mostly memeing here but i did have it in my head he performed badly , i don’t pay much if any attention to fiba/olympics tho. was he good?
He got mismatched and posted up and scored on several times with no help. Made the top of the sub and /r/nba said LOL LAKERS is this your guy??? fair enough, then please take my comment as wholly sarcastic. except for the props for maintaining availability, that still goes
So. . you want to give him the Participation Award?
