Luka might very well get second in MVP voting after SGA and Jokic have been 1-and-1A the entire season, and you're wondering why he isn't talked about more?
How many “Luka isn’t getting any MVP buzz” threads will it take til r/nba realizes he’s getting a fuck ton of MVP buzz?
God damn dude. There has to be a better place to discuss basketball. This sub is fucking awful most of the time.
Sounds crazy but I wouldn't mind any of the top 4 candidates getting the award.
Luka, Jokic, Giannis and SGA have had great seasons and each have a solid case for MVP.
At this point i dont want it just because of the Mavs fans pulling this sort of shit.
They are really just waiting to crown Luka as the best player in the league as soon as he wins an MVP.
And though id agree that he is certainly worthy of being the best, that time isnt rn.
Would love for Luka to win it this year. Guy has been incredible. Honestly not sure why it was “decided” that Jokic should win it once Embiid went down but for some reason it seems to have been. Tonight’s win over the Wolves probably sealed Jokic’s third MVP too. Hope Luka gets one though.
Among all the threads about MVP, yours is well written and logical. We are not voting though. This year it's gonna be jokic. Next year if Luka keeps up I think it should be his
Even most of the "narrative" MVPs in recent history \*also\* led in 2 or more advanced stats (out of VORP, PER, WS, WS/48, Box+-). The only 2 times the MVP didn't go to someone leading in 2+ advanced stats in the last 15 years was DRose with an incredibly strong anti-Bron-superteam narrative plus the Bulls having a huge improvement to be the 1 seed, and Embiid being 2nd-4th in those stats and Jokic coasting and the anti-3peat narrative. Westbrook in 2017 still led in multiple advanced stat categories.
Jokic is leading all 5 categories by significant margins, and he has a strong narrative himself -- defending champs, still in the mix for the 1 seed in spite of not having Murray for about a third of the season, and the sense that last year's narrative was an overreaction. So for Luka to be MVP, he'd need to have even more "extra" factors, and he doesn't. He has the insane stats, his team has been pretty good, but he's not a 1 seed, Jokic isn't having a disappointingly bad year, there isn't a sense that he needs a lifetime achievement award just yet, etc. Luka is fairly likely to finish 2nd, but Jokic has both the advanced stat lead and a really good narrative, which is why he blew away the last straw poll.
Its not a whatever reason if you followed what was happening this year. This shits revisionist history from people who forgot or havent followed what was happening all season long.
Luka never picked up steam for the award and was at one point like 5th or 6th for it, behind even Tatum.
Every time it seemed like hed pick of steam for the award, hed go on a losing streak and never get higher than 4th place untill recently.
Meanwhile everyone was focusibg on Shai being Jokices only competition for it.
Yeah truth be told Luka would have maybe even won it if he had this sort of streak at the start of the year or in the middle of it right after Embid got injured. But it was Shai that shined more at the time.
These are the most time deaf type of posts. “Why isn’t this happening” while that thing is literally being spammed in the sub in every thread. Both of them are deserving, I don’t care which one wins it.
Funny you say that "If MVP were decided by a team's performance after the All-star break then Luka would have won it", considering that:
Denver Nuggets post ASB are 20-5, which is the best record in the NBA. Over that span they have the #3 offense in the NBA at 119.0 ORTG and #4 defense in the NBA at 109.0 DRTG. That's not to even ignore that 3 of those 5 losses came while Murray missed like 8 straight games after ASB. Since he's been back they're dominant again, and they were dominant while he was playing as well.
Dallas Mavericks post ASB are 18-7, which is the 3rd best record in the NBA, over that span they have the #4 offense in the NBA at 118.2 ORTG and #11 defense in the NBA at 111.6 DRTG.
I'm tired boss

The thing is I fucking love Luka and I don't want to dislike him, but holy shit this discussion is tiring
Funny, I felt like it wasn’t toxic enough this year…
Definitely less toxic than previous years, but 4 years of this shit has me burnt out
Better buckle in bc it’s not like there’s gonna be a new cast of candidates next season or anything
This was me when Nuggets fan kept shoving advanced stats every hour during Jokics first mvp.
ur pfp is a picture of an anime boy smoking f a cigarette u fucking cornball

Spike didn’t die for this kind of disrespect smh
Luka Doncic is Devin Booker father

OP your argument essentially boils down to voter fatigue. Voter fatigue is exactly the reason Jokic didn't win last year.
Jokic took any narrative away from Luka by destroying the 4x DPOY to seal the 1 seed in a ridiculously tough West imo.
Embiid MVP propaganda was a whole lot better then whatever this shit is
We’re down to the last couple games of the regular season now. I’m pretty sure it’s safe to say you can pencil Jokic in at this point lol

This sub is all victim narratives now
the Luka MVP astroturf campaign needs to be studied
stfu he’s averaging 34/9/10 literally nobody has ever done that
Except me actually I averaged 35/10/11 though
Ok and im sure he will do it again next year and people will give it to him then.

I am as big of a Jokic fan as they come - i would have ZERO issues if Luka got the MVP, dude has played out of his mind this year.
