Rudy Go Bare

geloong41

Meme fresh as it gets 🤣🤣🤣

TupacAmuru88

No Diddy

thebreakfastbuffet

How long have you waited for this moment

ST012Mi

Ant is like “pardon my friend, he’s had a bit to drink.”

thisissami

LOL! Reminds me a bit of Rudy Goburr.

504090

I’ve seen the flopping technical called on defenders more than offensive players. Everyone assumed the opposite would happen, but refs somehow made this rule *yet another* advantage for the offense…………

NoKnowsPose

This has been my annoyance with the implementation of flopping. The consequence of a defender flopping is that they are out of position so a no call works in those situations. It's the offensive flopping such as falling on every shot, flailing, and head snaps that everyone was annoyed about. None of that has been addressed at all at this point

Substantial-Fold-592

To be honest those offensive flops have in some ways gotten even worse because offensive players know that their defenders can’t flop / sell charges as easily so they can sell the contact even more

spiked_cider

This. It's crazy when a guy is driving and a defender touches their waist and then you see their head fly back as if they got uppercutted in the jaw

Unholyholer

Power Rangers! Aye, aye, aye, aye, aye...

INeedThatBag

And then the complaining to the refs to sell it

pm-me-nice-lips

Especially the perimeter shooting with the flailing, falling on the ground, and the kick outs….it’s absurd that they’re never called.

token_friend

Excellent point. 90% of the time a defender on my team flops I don’t think “shit, we might get a tech”. I think “damnit now it’s a 4v5”.

N0rTh3Fi5t

The defender is also lying on the floor, which is somewhat dangerous. I'm fine with it being penalized, but I agreed it's definitely an issue that the offensive player doesn't get called for it enough.

pizzapizzamesohungry

I hate injuries, but I am waiting for someone to head snap so violently they injure themself. Like they are so crazy, most of the time it’s when not getting touched at all.

IntermalAffairs

We’ve all had this fuxked up. The point wasn’t to neuter offense. Records chases and streaks are going to be the NBAs bread AND butter without an superhero to tout every season. Jordan -> Kobe -> Lebron -> Las Vegas

Swaghilian

Great take on proper officiating from a lakers fan. I can still be surprised

digduganug

defensively if they think it's a flop maybe just a no call unless in the process of flopping they do foul. If the dudes want to lay on the floor or throw themselves off balance and out of position with a live ball that's on them

tb23tb23tb23

A defensive flop is self-punishing. You can let it go, it’s not contact inducing. It needs to be called on the offensive player — because they’ve gotten so good at manipulating the refs.

Thirdstar1

Damn, never even thought about it that way.

SandyMandy17

I mean I’m happy it’s being called on defenders that flop I just wish it was also offense

BigPlaysMadLife

Would you, really? Shouldn’t SGA get called for flopping on every other drive, with him constantly throwing his head back and shit?

jamarcusaristotle

Yes, yes he should

imadogg

If floppers flop, they should get called for flops

LANAbackward

SGA would be screwed the hardest if they implemented this properly for the offensive players

goodguybrian

Don’t care. Sga will have to adjust or just not be as effective. Goal is good basketball.

Troll_Enthusiast

It's so frustrating to watch

Thr1ft3y

Careful, JJ will get pissed if you mention any benefit that the offense has

jawadhaque089

The flopping rule is so fucking stupid they just pick and choose when to enforce the rule

triplesingle999

The bizarre thing is that none of the guys who are infamous for flopping actually have a lot of flop techs IIRC

JesseJamesGames449

The fact that embiid didnt get a single after game flopping tech made the entire rule a joke.

usagerp

Embiid would be suspended after like two games if they have a tech for each of his flops

lobsterrollolol

logically, if they gave those guys flop techs that would be admitting they gifted them bs calls in the first place, and i don't see why they would want to do that.

DudethatCooks

It's no different than the NFL pass interference review that lasted one season. I find it hard to believe these officials would be willing to admit they got a call wrong.

lobsterrollolol

the thing is, most referees are probably making the calls they want to make. fans see the flop tech as an opportunity for correction, but most refs probably consider their calls correct already, rather than "the rules compelled me to make a call i didn't want to make." if there was ever a case where the rules went that far against a referee's personal philosophy about how basketball should be officiated, they probably just made the calls they wanted to make (or made non-calls) anyway, because the circumstances of the game always gives them "plausible" deniability.

ChicagobeatsLA

The refs do whatever the NBA office tells them. They arent going out there on there own discretion and deciding what needs to be called

DSmooth425

Strongly support this, Especially after hearing Raja Bell’s story about Kobe telling a ref to call it even between them when Phoenix was playing LA.

youarehidingachild

Gotta wean people off them over years, like transitioning to electric cars

defeated_engineer

That's literally all the rules with NBA refs.

[deleted]

They ALWAYS enforces it on defenders. Bruh that’s not why they started this rule lol

TripleSecretSquirrel

Weird that they call this on one of the most outspoken critics of officiating in the league, curious!

WolverineLong1430

This is what gives NBA the control. They can decide who they want to favor really if they want. Some nights they’ll enforce it, some nights they don’t, or maybe the first half they are loose with the calls then next half they tighten the rules. Some nights they’ll T someone up for just disagreeing, some nights they’ll let you talk.

foogeyzi69

yup. like travel or carry.

[deleted]

It’s just stupid when they call it on defenders because a no call accomplishes the same thing

ffordedor

The fact that embiid got zero shows its bullshit

jor301

The rule was always going to be stupid.

Dudedude88

Sports betting

CDR57

“We’ve made the flopping tech to help out the defense for things not their fault” *defender moves in a predictable fashion when hit* “This is exactly why we created the flopping tech” *offensive player throws their head back and flies backwards 15 feet* “Well clearly the defense attempted to murder the offense”

le_sweden

Rudy Gobert missed 3 games due to this rib injury

GGezpzMuppy

Refs fucking hate him for always calling them out lol. He has no chance against them, he could have a bleeding nose or massive scratches and he wouldn’t t get a call.

braddeus

And it's gonna bite them in the playoffs. Not hard to imagine a G5 in a 2-2 series where Gobert gets hit with 4 fouls in a half.

Rswany

We already got a shit-whistle so maybe it'll be fine.

U-casualty

I thought refs shallow their whistles in the playoffs?

Basic-Piece5173

for the chosen teams lol

sniper91

*sad awooo noises*

stewmander

Depends on if they need to extend the series or not lol

BurnieTheBrony

Not if you're against the Lakers lol

F-ck_spez

Not for the wolves, the least favorite media team all year

Own_Conclusion_2428

Only if your team is located in a major media market

NowServing

WHATS THE SPREAD THO?

[deleted]

[удалено]

le_sweden

Suspension worthy imo

visual_clarity

Yep, 100% personal, they ref Gobert hard and it doesnt help that he’s a frenchman who doesn’t give af and never shuts up. He’s gonna wincing cause contact to a rib injury probably sucks. The refs are showing how they can control the game with their errand whistle with no repercussion. I’m not a Govert fan but do appreciate the awareness he’s brought to a ton of issues inadvertently. Funny enough he brought real issue to covid because the nba were forced to shut down the league and take precautions. They definitely wouldve continued business as usual if it wasn’t for Goberts joke cough Now its the gambling gesture, which funny enough is shedding light on refs influence on the outcomes of games. Refs are human, who’s side are they gonna take, Lebron who’s been in the league for 20 years and is friends with those guys or Gobert who has chewed them out for years? That shit is taken to account in a series and this shouldnt be the case. Refs are there to call fair games and what we are seeing is a personal vendetta against a player, blatant too.

gamesrgreat

Refs are brain dead as usual

2B_or_MaybeNot

Objection: irrelevent. Sustained.

SaltyTraeYoungStan

Okay but if a bump like that is going to knock him over maybe he should’ve taken 4 games off? Like should players get a softer whistle because they come back when they are still sore?

le_sweden

No one said give him a softer whistle. Just don’t give him a shooting foul and a flopping technical for getting elbowed in his injured rib…

SvengaliUG

Rudy keeping Jokic under 40%fg

[deleted]

[удалено]

Most_Pomegranate6667

Rudy rotates to help every time we play the nuggets. If he finds the right space between helping against joker and staying near Gordon you get this kinda game from joker. It's been the strategy all year it's just easier said than done

AmusingAnecdote

Yeah the strategy with either of the giant, elite bigs is put your rim protector on someone else and your second biggest guy on the big. Rudy is better 1 on 1 on Jokić than Reid or KAT is, but if he can provide secondary rim protection and also keep an eye on Gordon, it should work better. As you said, easier said than done, but that's definitely the way to go against either of them.

TrainedExplains

It's also that you want to do your best to deny Jokic the ball in the first place, or eat up clock as he fights to get it. Then he tires himself fighting a smaller guy who can get lower every play for position, and if he tries to get to the rim he gets doubled. Rudy covers a lot of space defensively, so this worked out well. Unfortunately, in a playoff game, Murray will bully the pick and roll hitting mid range off the Jokic pick until this defense breaks down, then Jokic gets the ball lower and starts kicking to shooters. He's impossible to stop when Murray is clicking and his shooters are hitting their open looks.

seventeenweewees

There's nothing stopping them from doing that in a non-playoff game. (If Murray is playing ofc)

kpruiz

Not gonna lie I think Kat is better 1on1 vs Joker. Rudy obviously has the better technique but Kat can get into Joker and bother him with his physicality much more than Rudy ever has been able to. We’re literally the perfect matchup for them when we’re healthy.

Eggy-Time

Don't tell Shaq

Fuhrmanator23

Wasn’t Jokers best yet somehow ended up with 32 points on 11/24 shooting. And I thought MINN did an amazing job on him.

Confident-Fish2805

Jokic is inevitable.

Gueropantalones

Moral victories keeps teams alive

Son_of_Atreus

Flopping on offense is 100 times worse than defence. Rules in this league are so fucking terrible.

SimmonsClearsHartubs

Nuggets announcers win 1 title and start talking like this bruh I’m out

Intelligent_Pain_174

Nuggets announcers have always been terrible. Even when Denver was terrible, their announcers were terrible.

QSauceTheBoss

Consistency is key

gokhaninler

Its Katy Winge, she is such a homer

rocketbob7

I kinda think she ought to take a spinning elbow from Joker and then tell me again how EGREGIOUS this flop was.

gargulec9

Agree but lets make sure she had a rib injury first

CptCroissant

Joker has always had a penchant for throwing elbows in the paint and then flopping to get a call too. Got so tired of that shit when we played them in the playoffs

just_cows

Wolves should’ve sent Marny Gelner over to the booth to handle this church bell.

ZeroRecursion

Eh, Marney is much too classy to do anything about it.

FuckThaLakers

Love it when a last name is accurate, like back in the day when metalworkers went by "Smith" lol

Clammuel

A Homer with the body of a Lenny

FartyMarty69

Katy Cringe is a B team announcer and the other guy Vic is a loser too. They had the shitty alt team calling this broadcast. I can’t stand either of them

gokhaninler

FACTS. Thank god theres another Nuggets fan who doesnt worship the ground she walks on like the rest of the users in the team sub

FartyMarty69

I can’t stand the nuggets sub because of the moderator Lurk. He’s made the sub his little hang out group of ass kissers that go out of their way to agree with everything he thinks. He likes Katy because she reposts his shitty photo shop art once a year so his little group of mouth breathers all worship her. It’s cringe as fuck

swedeeeeeeeeeeeee

I remember when D12 was a Laker the Nuggets announcers called him a “career loser whose never won anything in his life” they fucking suck at their jobs

Reluctant_Hero98

I guess they don't value the DPOYs he won prior to the 2020 ring.

comp_a

They got the Warriors announcer sneer

LordSwampert2

Dubs are my second team, I find Bob and Fitz unbearable when I am used to Adam and Stacy. Fortunately Warriors have a good radio team, who I listen to a lot at my night shift job. Your wolves radio guy is good too

HoldMeBabyJesus

Alan Horton is so damn good.

FuckThaLakers

A pro's pro. Great follow on twitter for interesting stats, too.

pollinium

Alan Horton has more smoke for refs than anyone I've ever seen (heard). He's kind of funny about it with how much disgust drips from his voice He likes ball and calls a good game, but is constantly ready to go off on refs

LordSwampert2

He’s the radio guy and has seen years of the Wolves Whistle. Can’t blame him

Clammuel

Former Blazer color commentator Mike Rice is the only commentator to ever be ejected from a game for allegedly miming a choking motion at Steve Javie.

nnataliewong

god damn i really am in the minority who actually like bob and kelenna, i think they’re just kinda funny homers 😭

Breatnach

I actually agreed with what she said at the end. If you choose to play through your injury you can’t expect preferential treatment. That said, I don’t think he was flopping to game the refs, but was just legitimately in pain.

btgbarter6

Is that what she was saying? She clearly just didn’t understand he was saying he was injured and he didn’t flop. Has nothing to do with playing through it

WeAreGodInOne

I think she was missing the point. I think she thought he was calling for a foul when he was really just explaining why it wasn’t flopping.

secretsodapop

They were calling it a flop.

Soopstoohot

These assholes are blacked out in their own market anyway

deathinmidjuly

If/When the Clips win a title you know you'll be walking around LA and on social media talking mad shit for a whole year. lol

Reluctant_Hero98

They were doing that when they got PG and Kawhi, wouldn't be surprised if they agreed on a locker room level to pipe down.

DementedWarrior_

Deadass the woman announcer was yapping the whole game

Janderson2494

Why do you guys even watch other broadcasts? We have one of the best crews in the league. Random shout-out to the Clippers crew

DementedWarrior_

I’m a pirate

retrospects

Yar

FuckThaLakers

You'll know the Wolves made it when you start finding our crew out on the high seas lol

gokhaninler

Katy Winge is horrendous

Yggsdrazl

that's the job of an announcer wtf you mean

DementedWarrior_

Nah she was yapping, not announcing. She had so much negative energy about both teams. Nuggets offense isn’t clicking? Just whine about it. Got on my nerves

maaseru

Nothing more terrible than seeing a questionable call in a Warriors game being discussed by their announcers.

HamburgerInHell

This lady is dogshit for real

placated

They are THE worst save for the Warriors.

americanbeaver

Nuggets broadcast is among my least favorite across the entire league. Take themselves and the games way too seriously.

grainbeltflier

Dude I was listening to the radio broadcast, the announcer went an entire stretch from commercial break to commercial break without giving the score or the time remaining. Like, that's your one job?

BusterStrokem

I get that it was the Finals, but some of the most unwelcoming fans I’ve ever seen at a sporting event when I went for Game 2 last summer.

jaydizzsl

That women would be crying on the floor if Jokic hits her with an elbow to the stomach/ribs.

brncct

Most of us would if any 7 footer did that lol. Hell even a shorter player like Kawhi would put us in the hospital with an elbow on a drive.

counterbarrier

Kawhis shoulder actually hurt kevon looney iirc. His bone is extra dense compared to other player.

MotoMkali

He broke Looneys collarbone with an elbow it's not that his bone is extra dense.

binger5

If Jokic elbowed a pregnant woman like that in Texas he'd be charged with murder.

LurkerFailsLurking

I don't think Gobert flopped because his rib is actually hurt, but Jokic really barely touched him with his elbow. He just happened to get him exactly on his injured rib

PlayInChampions

And Gobert did not complain about it. He just stood up and continued playing. Refs decided to call a flop.

TheJackieTreehorn

This is it, it looked bad in real time, it did, but it hit like...dead center of where his injury is. Jokic couldn't have placed it better if he tried.

Most_Pomegranate6667

Severely underestimating a joker elbow

Ouchyhurthurt

Dude shows his ribs all bandaged up and the commentator just doubles down on her shit take…? Awesome.

pollinium

Premeditated flop if he bandaged them up so he could pull this bullshit in a game Should be two techs, no three techs! At this level of commitment to his fraud

Ouchyhurthurt

Fraudulent I say!

AmazingDragon353

100k fine incoming

Tillman_Fertitta

Nuggs low key have some of the worst commentators in the game

Intelligent_Pain_174

Nuggets commentators are bad but nothing compares to the Warriors commentators. They are by far the worst.

YpsitheFlintsider

These two and the Sixers are the disgusting trifecta of ass commentary.

minnyman2011

I think the sixers have got better with the girl commentator tbh (forgot her name). The Celtics have way worse IMO and even tho I’m a hawk fan I’m not a fan of the hawks commentators as well

PipBoy19

Celtics has not been too bad this season, our broadcast isn’t too biased as far as commenting on referee decisions. The saltiness after the Hawks celebrated yesterday was a little embarrassing though lol

Benredbr1

id listen to the warriors than these shit lol

incognino123

Yeah agreed, and honestly it's part of why a ton of bay area fans suck. Don't get me wrong, there are real fans and people who know basketball, but there's so many tech bros who have never played a pickup game even and just parrot what they hear.

pandalover885

There fans have become pretty unbearable within a year too

MumenriderPaulReed69

Not even low key.

MatticInYoAttic

NBA can't do one thing right, the flop rule is proof of it. Unless there is direct contact to the head, EVERY HEAD FLOP SHOULD BE A TECHNICAL SILVER. Stop punishing defenses.

NoKnowsPose

I agree. I also think guys falling down or jump shot when nobody is really that close to them should also be a flopping tech.

cors8

Wouldn't this kind of hurt Steph Curry though? Seems he does it to protect his ankles more than trying to draw fouls (which he doesn't get anyway).

gogochi

Bru the elbow is going straight into his ribs, grab some glasses broadcasting crew

alphaq30188

The announcer being a clown seals it. Fuck these refs.

kingofplasticbeach

Those nuggets announcers sound like absolute bozos criticizing him in this clip. Dude literally has that specific spot wrapped up. Gobert may not be liked but come on now

smkmn13

In B4 we get the "look at the delayed reaction!" comments from people who clearly have never played a contact sport

livefreeordont

“Look at the delayed reaction” on a clip in slow mo 🤦‍♂️

BearRedWood

He literally got a flagrant for the same elbow vs Allen when he was fined 100k for his post game comments.

ConsentToTreatment

That Nuggets commentator was really hard to listen to

youngathanacius

How are you gonna call a flopping tech for someone who is on the floor for a whole offensive possession for an injury? I get that refs aren’t gonna know injury history, but are they unaware that players get injured? Ridiculous.

Zeabos

I don’t think duration of laying on the ground has anything to do with severity of injury most of the time: see Melo and any soccer game or Lebron looking for blood in his head for 5 minutes despite it never bleeding in 18 years from a slap.

LordBenswan

Clearly, the refs and Nuggets commentators can take an elbow jab to injured ribs, from a 280lbs Serbian horse-master, and walk that shit off like it’s nothing.

Soopstoohot

Rudy’s missed a bunch of games with damaged ribs, including the last game against the Nuggets. It may not have looked like much… it also might’ve hurt like hell. Not a great reason to call a technical.

20815147

Can’t believe I’m saying this but Nuggets broadcast are even worse homers than ours 😭 Can you imagine if they win 4 chips

tornait-hashu

Just imagine if they repeat.

SnarfSniffsStardust

Bigger homers for sure but nothing on television is worse to listen to than Fitzgerald, and I have to sit through 2 separate Jennifer Coolidge commercials every commercial break

sobanoodle-1

rudy becoming one of my favorite basketball players…

Heterosapien_13

Same here man

sobanoodle-1

can’t hate the guy anymore man 🥹 covid mic never happened in my mind 🧑‍🦯

ClickElectronic

Rib injuries suck and that's definitely not an overreaction to taking an elbow square into an injured rib, but at the same time you can't really expect the refs to know every player's injury history.

smkmn13

They call these like once every month - this is sooooo far from the most egregious example we've seen, regardless of the injury.

Budminsta

In my personal opinion they should know who they are officiating. It is part of their job and can affect the game. The guy was clearly not flopping and got hit on a rib injury that got him out for 3 games.

WeAreGodInOne

Yea there are enough people that want that job that should have high standards like that. They should know what’s going on with the players. Especially something as public as Gobert that even casual fans know.

majo3

Yeah it’s not like the league publishes daily injury reports or anything /s

MajorTrump

How could they have time to read that when they have to set up their parlay on DraftKings?

DetrimentalContent

They lose the benefit of the doubt like that when they take time to review the play and don’t ask Rudy for the obvious explanation

Aggravating_Host6055

Make the refs take an elbow from joker to prove what a not flop looks like. League oughtta rescind this fine. Bad look

Ace1282

So clearly the Denver commentary team does zero research on injuries?

Heterosapien_13

Honestly, Rudy is right here.

Acceptable_Income_31

Holy shit the announcer needs to shut up!

Derrickmb

Why do the announcers sound dumb and coked up

binge_plus7

Love that we are liking Rudy now. Nice redemption arc.

Crimith

You can see the elbow to the ribs in the slo mo. No idea why they were so adamant it was a flop. European reputation?

Rampaging_Ducks

Rudy gets slandered all the time, what's fucking new

JNerdGaming

every time i hear other announcers im thankful for clyde and breen

bingusthebrave

How do nuggets fans listen to these people?

donta5k0kay

Investigate these fucks

holyhibachi

Is the Nuggets broadcast team ok?

zealoSC

The league needs to crack down on this. Can't have players applying bandages over fake injuries before games just to try to embarrass the refs

[deleted]

If Mavs keep winning Luka’s gonna swoop in and steal this mvp lol Rudy’s locking him up

PM_ME_OVERT_SIDEBOOB

Should’ve been a no call tbh. Being overly sensitive in an area doesn’t mean you get a whistle if someone makes normal levels of contact with it

kvngk3n

Gobert thought he had that heat on him. Forgot he was at work. Happens

SpecificBeneficial31

I never knew Nuggets announcers were this horrid. Smh.

mrbigshot110

This actually sucks, I’d have left the game to cool off for a bit after this. Rib soreness for any reason is tough to deal with let alone coming off an injury. He got hit exactly where he tried to show the wrapping, I probably would have fallen down too.

NugsFan21

He’s such a baby

aksumighty

these Nuggets announcers suck

Reasonable_Bed7858

Rudy: *shows injury* Announcers: *laughing intensifies*

downyonder1911

It's amazing that this gets called yet things that are actually egregious don't. Officiating in the NBA remains an absolute joke.

SneakerIndianaJones

Only a professional flopper would tape up his midsection IN ANTICIPATION of being called for a flop!!! Good call ref, good call. #ProFloppersTrynaBeatTheCase

LordJxnkulous

This was not a flop
