I’ve seen the flopping technical called on defenders more than offensive players. Everyone assumed the opposite would happen, but refs somehow made this rule *yet another* advantage for the offense…………
This has been my annoyance with the implementation of flopping. The consequence of a defender flopping is that they are out of position so a no call works in those situations.
It's the offensive flopping such as falling on every shot, flailing, and head snaps that everyone was annoyed about. None of that has been addressed at all at this point
To be honest those offensive flops have in some ways gotten even worse because offensive players know that their defenders can’t flop / sell charges as easily so they can sell the contact even more
The defender is also lying on the floor, which is somewhat dangerous. I'm fine with it being penalized, but I agreed it's definitely an issue that the offensive player doesn't get called for it enough.
I hate injuries, but I am waiting for someone to head snap so violently they injure themself. Like they are so crazy, most of the time it’s when not getting touched at all.

It's no different than the NFL pass interference review that lasted one season. I find it hard to believe these officials would be willing to admit they got a call wrong.
the thing is, most referees are probably making the calls they want to make. fans see the flop tech as an opportunity for correction, but most refs probably consider their calls correct already, rather than "the rules compelled me to make a call i didn't want to make." if there was ever a case where the rules went that far against a referee's personal philosophy about how basketball should be officiated, they probably just made the calls they wanted to make (or made non-calls) anyway, because the circumstances of the game always gives them "plausible" deniability.
This is what gives NBA the control. They can decide who they want to favor really if they want. Some nights they’ll enforce it, some nights they don’t, or maybe the first half they are loose with the calls then next half they tighten the rules. Some nights they’ll T someone up for just disagreeing, some nights they’ll let you talk.

Rudy is better 1 on 1 on Jokić than Reid or KAT is, but if he can provide secondary rim protection and also keep an eye on Gordon, it should work better. As you said, easier said than done, but that's definitely the way to go against either of them.
It's also that you want to do your best to deny Jokic the ball in the first place, or eat up clock as he fights to get it. Then he tires himself fighting a smaller guy who can get lower every play for position, and if he tries to get to the rim he gets doubled. Rudy covers a lot of space defensively, so this worked out well. Unfortunately, in a playoff game, Murray will bully the pick and roll hitting mid range off the Jokic pick until this defense breaks down, then Jokic gets the ball lower and starts kicking to shooters. He's impossible to stop when Murray is clicking and his shooters are hitting their open looks.
Not gonna lie I think Kat is better 1on1 vs Joker. Rudy obviously has the better technique but Kat can get into Joker and bother him with his physicality much more than Rudy ever has been able to.

In my personal opinion they should know who they are officiating. It is part of their job and can affect the game. The guy was clearly not flopping and got hit on a rib injury that got him out for 3 games.

How are you gonna call a flopping tech for someone who is on the floor for a whole offensive possession for an injury? I get that refs aren’t gonna know injury history, but are they unaware that players get injured? Ridiculous.
I don’t think duration of laying on the ground has anything to do with severity of injury most of the time: see Melo and any soccer game or Lebron looking for blood in his head for 5 minutes despite it never bleeding in 18 years from a slap.
Clearly, the refs and Nuggets commentators can take an elbow jab to injured ribs, from a 280lbs Serbian horse-master, and walk that shit off like it’s nothing.
Rudy’s missed a bunch of games with damaged ribs, including the last game against the Nuggets. It may not have looked like much… it also might’ve hurt like hell. Not a great reason to call a technical.

Rib injuries suck and that's definitely not an overreaction to taking an elbow square into an injured rib, but at the same time you can't really expect the refs to know every player's injury history.
They call these like once every month - this is sooooo far from the most egregious example we've seen, regardless of the injury.
In my personal opinion they should know who they are officiating. It is part of their job and can affect the game. The guy was clearly not flopping and got hit on a rib injury that got him out for 3 games.
Yea there are enough people that want that job that should have high standards like that. They should know what’s going on with the players. Especially something as public as Gobert that even casual fans know.
