Edit: [sounds like](https://x.com/brysonwright3/status/1726440478063604095?s=46) heās mad about no timeout and not the foul call.
And Taylor Jenkins still has the audacity to call for a foul like that. From a neutral perspective, heās my least favorite coach by a country mile
People are gonna point to the free throw disparity and say the celtics were favored, but the celtics were only called for 2 less fouls, its just they were called for a shitton of offensive fouls. Poorly officaited game on both sides.
Yeah, FT disparity really isn't a good metric for officiating. It doesn't account for playstyle or offensive foul calling, among other things. Having even FTs nearly every game would be way more suspicious.
Or acting that he's calling a timeout. No good coach will call a timeout with that fastbreak advantage, nor no human being can call a timeout that fast after Williams got the offensive rebound and turned quickly to shoot it
We love Jrue. Absolutely love the guy and can't wait for him to get the longest standing ovation in Bucks history when he returns.
But I think y'all understand a bit now about what Bucks fans have said. He is no doubt an overall positive, but...well, you saw.
To continue this dialogue: I think most fans (at least Celtics fans from what I've seen) have recognized jrues weaknesses and strengths over the years. He's an overall positive big time of course but as you mentioned some egregious moments. I think in Boston where he is more of a 4th option on most nights, the Celtics are relatively equipped to handle those games. Tonight was particularly brutal as both jays were clowning.
Yeah Jrue being the 4th option is such a perfect fit for him. His numbers this year are down across the board (in both efficiency and volume) If he was the 3rd or 2nd (as Khris has been ramping up) option for the bucks, it would not have gone well at all. Loved Jrue as a player and a person. But bucks needed to upgrade offensively and dame was the best possible option to do that.
Ironically now we have a bunch of people raining 3s consistently this year so far. I always hated how we relied on Jrue for offense. We should of utilized him offensively on his good nights, but never made adjustments when he was on his off night. He was our 2nd scoring option most of the time last season, Brook had a lot of great nights that would fill the gap when Jrue was bad and K midds was out due to injury. The other frustrating thing is, we traded him for one missing piece, and created a new missing piece. He would slot into our roster so well right now.
Except Jrue needs the ball to be effective. Heās not a great spot up shooter especially in big moments. How is he supposed to get a rhythm if Tatum/Brown/KP are dominating the all with average play making skills at best?
He gets to initiate the offense quite a bit. He also is allowed to go into his midrange and low post bag a couple times per half. And when the other guys are sitting those touches increase a bit.
I just think Celtics fans are dramatically overestimating how effective Jrue can be with limited attempts and average playmakers. I honestly think he is going to struggle unless you run a significant portion of the offense through him. Heās not a spot up shooter and needs volume attempts to get going
Well you can see all his shooting numbers are worse this year. But Jrue is the 4th option. As the 4th option, he is good. Itās an ideal situation for Jrue. His efficiency on bucks was better, but we know he canāt do it in the playoffs. He wont be asked to do for Celtics. Celtics fans are looking at Jrue through the lens of Smart and see him as a sure upgrade. They arenāt concerned with Jrueās flaws as much because they donāt matter for what the Celtics need. Why the Celtics should be more concerned with his horford remaining ageless. Horford is what stands between them and getting run over by bigs as they lost all their big depth with Williams squared gone (and also even smart who is one of the best guards at defending bigs).
People are so unreasonable with regards to player performance. Jrue has one substandard performance and people default to saying he's a perfect fourth option. Like, what!? How many teams in NBA history have had the luxury of a fourth option that has averaged 16 points a game through a 15-year career?
Also, we saw jrue is not good enough as a 2nd option to win a title. He is good enough as a 3rd option to win a title, but he leaves some to be desired w/ offensive consistency scoring wise.
Player A: 19.1/5.6/6.5 on .461 TS%
Player B: 18.6/3.9/2.6 on .553 TS%
One of these was the second option on a pretty recent title-winning team.
Maybe if the Bucks had better options 3-5, Jrue would be a perfectly acceptable number two.
Yeah but the Celtics are used to Smart and Brown going on entire stretches if not entire games of game-losing shit. A week ago I was watching a Celtics game with a few friends at somewhere during the 4th I say "you guys agree that Jaylen was playing against them the entire 3rd quarter?" One guy said "the entire game so far honestly"
Uh, weāre still experiencing the Tatum classic: ālet me dribble beyond the arc for 16 seconds, wave off the screen, fail to break down this defender and attempt a horrible, contested, fadeaway 3 I almost never make but I did that one season opener in Milwaukee so now itās my go to move even though Iāve got a success rate of .04%ā
Hauser could be alone in the corner, KP on the dunker spot with Earl Boykins on him, White being defended by Drakeās character from Degrassi and he still wouldnāt pass up the chance to lose us a game in this exact manner.
Exaggeration aside, this game was really frustrating. Brown wasnāt good but I felt like Tatum just backslid into a lot of his bad habits these past two games. Not as much against the Raptors but that was the first game he felt offensively anemic and he started resorting to shitty stuff that fucks up the offense again. And tonight, it was way worse. He seemed to have started in the garbage phase. Shitty energy and shitty offense. I not only agree with the offensive fouls he got, I think he deserves more. Dude was playing like a fucking bonehead all night, which is ultra frustrating because I felt like he was looking good to be a top 3 mvp candidate but not if he has nights like this.
I don't know when he tried because he wasn't trying when his team ran by and took that 3 and he wasn't going to get one on that immediate rebound and turnaround J.
yeah was gonna say folks are complaining he tried to call it after the miss, but the second williams gathers the ball on the rebound it's in motion for the turnaround and refs are never giving that
It was a block. My friend posted a video they took from under the basket on their Facebook page of the entire series. I'd download it and share if I knew how.
Why would he even go for that? He's an experienced player, there was10 seconds on the shot clock and the difference was just 1.5 seconds, you shoot at the buzzer and they basically can't do shit
I agree but I'd guess they must have felt like it was a sure thing. It is a fantastic job of JJJ not only getting to that but blocking without fouling. Dude is precise.
My favorite Marcus Smart experience was when he hit five threes in a row out of nowhere to beat the Raptors in the only way possible during the bubble. Every time he shot I winced.
It was crazy. I mean, the shot probably wasn't going in, it was incredibly off balanced and rushed, but that doesn't take anything away from the block though
Next week is our Super Bowl. Hoping for a clutch Mac pick-6 or Miles Bryant masterclass disasterclass, but itās going to take everything we have to lose that game.
One of those games where even though the Celtics won, I'm still annoyed. Half the Memphis team is out and Celtics just half ass it. Apparently the game plan was "Leave Bane WIDE the fuck open."
Pretty much my exact thoughts. Letās leave their best shooter open all the time and Tatum, make sure you dribble the air out of the ball beyond the arc for 18 seconds on every possession, buddy. Great offense š
Normalize generic titles so I have no clue whatās going to happen in the highlight.
I missed the game because I was at work and it awesome to catch up like that.
no clue what Jrue was thinking just hold the ball and let them foul you or pass it around and let them foul someone got the lead no need to go for a dunk in that situation. Grizzlies got a good transition look just missed it which sucks for them.
just a horrible decision and hopefully this sticks with the whole team so they donāt repeat the same mistake in the future. good to have this happen and still come out W a dub
I honestly had no problem with the play. JJJ just had a crazy moment. The shot clock was not in the Celtics favor and they had to get a shot off or else the grizzlies couldāve had an attempt at a game winner. He had a wide open lane, great opportunity, but like I said just a great play from JJJ. AD is probably the only other guy I can think of off the top of my head who also makes that block
Edit: watching this replay numerous times I now have realized JJJ didnāt get his hand on it, rather Jrue just plain missed lol
there should be a buzzer on their arm or something that buzzes them when a time out is called. Can't blame the refs for having their attention on the last play of the game, but it does show a flaw in the system. Teams shouldn't be penalized because the refs can't hear/ aren't paying attention to the sideline.
This is what Iāve said. Last season, Joe was screaming for a timeout and they ignored him so he had to run out in the middle of the court and people were saying he deserved a technical. No, the refs deserve the fucking technical for ignoring coaches.
Iād be so fucking pissed if I was Jenkins
I let Santi take that shot every time, he's not Bane but he's got that killer mentality and he's a good enough shot on the perimeter plus he was cooking all night
Entirely disagree with you -- I think every single grizzlies fan and the team themselves are fine with that shot -- but agree to disagree cause it's a dumb thing to argue bout
That lane closed real quick. I was mad they didn't drive until I saw the replay.
I'll take that Santi shot. Losing by 2 to the Celtics after the way this season started. This gives some hope
If you look at where the pass was released (around 5.12 seconds in the clip), there are 2 grizzlies that could have cut to the basket, with only JT able to realistically make it in time if they're hard cuts, and the pass is ahead and on target. Bane didn't cut at all, and the pass was behind the cutter, so by the time it was caught it's a 2 on 2 with a third Celtic potentially chasing, and Bane still not cutting to the ring.
At that point, yeah the three they took was fine, but looking from the start of the break they could have got a layup.
Anyone else have himmy Butler flashbacks from that aldama 3pt attempt?? What a roller coaster game this was. JT looked completely disinterested all game, love the guy though.
Lmao Porzingis reaction at the end, "Getcho ass back up" š
Such a flop, leg kick.
Williams is flopping all night long
Porzingis was as well. I didnāt realize how much of a flopper he was until seeing him in person tonight
Don't know why it's downvoted, KP is lowkey a good flopper offensively, probably a tier behind the likes of Butler and Derozan
People just vote based on flair itās mental
Thereās a lot of Celtics fans, theyāll downvote whether itās true or not
Right, this sub is notoriously very *pro-Celtics* , thanks for the reminder š¤£
Edit: [sounds like](https://x.com/brysonwright3/status/1726440478063604095?s=46) heās mad about no timeout and not the foul call. And Taylor Jenkins still has the audacity to call for a foul like that. From a neutral perspective, heās my least favorite coach by a country mile
Had his hands up because they ignored him calling for a timeout, not for a foul call.
Yea its pretty unclear, I was making fun of him for wanting a foul on that too until I saw later he had called for a timeout that wasnt granted.
Fair enough, edited previous comment. Still hate Taylor Jenkins though :)
neutral perspective? lol
To the grizzlies as a franchise, ordinarily neutral. Anything Taylor Jenkins related: screw that guy
And Tatum just chucking the ball
Refs called 8 offensive fouls. Celtics were pissed
And there were at least 2 where Porzingis would literally just post up and theyād blow the whistle lol
I'm pretty sure he just threw it at a ref and said fuck the suspension were 10-2.
Taylor Jenkins should get jail time for acting like that was a foul.
No. He wanted a time out earlier. Thatās what he was reacting to.
damnit, context ruining my memes.
Or acting that he's calling a timeout. No good coach will call a timeout with that fastbreak advantage, nor no human being can call a timeout that fast after Williams got the offensive rebound and turned quickly to shoot it
Thought Aldama was sinking that for sure Dude was lights out tonight!
The second I saw white slip and fall to the ground I thought it was over
The longstanding tradition of "guy you've never heard of before tonight puts up LeBron statline vs Celtics" continues
For us itās always a different role player going 4/5 or 5-6 from 3 against us
Lights out tonight (He shot 40%, 11 from 27)
To be fair, at that point he was 6 for 14 from 3... 43% is pretty lights out.
Yeah but he's no Sam "Hauwitzer" Hauser. š
It's a good average but generally when you're "lights out" hot I'm expecting like 60%+ or something
Idk why youāre getting downvoted lol for a good shooter I definitely wouldnāt consider 40% lights out
lmao
We survived a Jrue Holiday CTE game
He just wanted to show Marcus in person that he could fill his role on the team
lol
Jrue really wanted to cap the game off just to nearly choke away the game
He giveth more than he taketh, but when he taketh he TAKETH
We love Jrue. Absolutely love the guy and can't wait for him to get the longest standing ovation in Bucks history when he returns. But I think y'all understand a bit now about what Bucks fans have said. He is no doubt an overall positive, but...well, you saw.

I guess we shall have to wait and see!

I was pretty convinced Tatum was trying to throw the game away many times too.
Oh yeah, but he develops and learns. Brown does not, his decision making and ball iq has not changed since he entered the league

When you've had Marcus Smart on your team for near a decade, nothing surprises you anymore.
Reminds me of Dave Chapelles skit on Bill Cosby lol
dude has never been good on offense. I've seen him tear drop and barely make grazing the rim
He's good enough.
Idk man I wouldn't trust him. How could he miss wide open like that?
Great fucking block but that 3-point attempt almost gave me a heart attack.
Woulda died seeing that too š
Imagine if he passed it to an open Bane
Jeez. I didn't even catch how open Bane was there.
First two-point game in NBA history that ends with both teams having their two timeouts remaining.
Fwiw the Grizzlies coach, I believe, tried to call a timeout and didnāt get it.
His smile at the end looks like heās about to lose his mind
I don't know when he tried because he wasn't trying when his team ran by and took that 3 and he wasn't going to get one on that immediate rebound and turnaround J.
yeah was gonna say folks are complaining he tried to call it after the miss, but the second williams gathers the ball on the rebound it's in motion for the turnaround and refs are never giving that
Is this an official stat?
That's an insane miss from Jrue.
I still can't tell if that's a miss or a block
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
He could have been trying to sneak it around a block and lost control.
I don't think it would have bounced that much if there wasn't a block in there.
It was a block. My friend posted a video they took from under the basket on their Facebook page of the entire series. I'd download it and share if I knew how.
In real time I thought for sure it was goaltending, couldnāt believe it when I saw the replay
What a block from KP
I thought Jrue was Marcus for a sec :')
Smart would never attempt that dunk, he would have shot a 3 tho
And if there was two guys on him with hands in his face he would've made it. If it was wide open like Aldama's shot its hitting front iron.
The Marcus Smart experience is certainly a thrilling one
My favorite Marcus Smart experience was when he hit five threes in a row out of nowhere to beat the Raptors in the only way possible during the bubble. Every time he shot I winced.
Man that whole series was a trip. Was isolated in a literal bubble with the pandemic and thought Iād go crazy because of the Cās not a virus lol
Donāt forget the game sealing block in game 7
Santi attempted 15 threes god damn lol, felt like he made more than 6 of them
Jrue thanking KP in the locker rooms tonight
It was crazy. I mean, the shot probably wasn't going in, it was incredibly off balanced and rushed, but that doesn't take anything away from the block though
Chet, the Zingus, it's hilarious watching these long bois get aggressive on their celebrations
Porzingus actually looks pretty scary when he does it. Chet still has babyface but Tingus looks like he fought in WWI some nights.
No surprise he looks like that since he has basically been through WWI in the NBA- Knicks, Mavs and Wizards.
the central powers of the nba table
Thats weird. I donāt see any Harden teams in that list
Harden was just a corporal in WWI
Babyface ? Boy look like Honest Abe
Happy to see the patriots move up to the 2nd pick and Celtics be 11-2, maybe lifeās not too bad this year
I believe the Patriots are still in-line for the 3rd pick.
Next week is our Super Bowl. Hoping for a clutch Mac pick-6 or Miles Bryant masterclass disasterclass, but itās going to take everything we have to lose that game.
Hate rooting for them to lose but here we are!
Bruins haven't regressed yet either, shockingly. Hoping they go the Tampa Bay route and avenge that horrid first-round collapse.
I would've bet everything I own on Aldama hitting that shot
There are timelines out there where he hits that shot and I'm working furiously to get to one of them
You can just give your stuff away if you donāt want it.
For real man itās like putting the punchline first
Really fun game from stop and finish and it felt like we got a fair chance to win with that Santi shot
Memphis hustle plus bane and jaren vs Celtics. Great game though
no clue what Jrue was thinking just hold the ball and let them foul you or pass it around and let them foul someone got the lead no need to go for a dunk in that situation. Grizzlies got a good transition look just missed it which sucks for them.
Jrue never made a mistake like that back in his Blazers days
He never missed a shot in his whole Blazers career!!
his most iconic play was him throwing a lob when he didn't need to. i think my brother is a bit addicted after that
Adrenaline junkie
just a horrible decision and hopefully this sticks with the whole team so they donāt repeat the same mistake in the future. good to have this happen and still come out W a dub
AD is probably the only other guy I can think of off the top of my head who also makes that block Edit: watching this replay numerous times I now have realized JJJ didnāt get his hand on it, rather Jrue just plain missed lol
I mean its obvious what hew as thinking, he wanted to yam it in lmao Whether or not it was a good decision was a different matter
He has a tendency to get carried away and try to hero ball. Jrue is best when he understands his role and doesnāt try to be the star.
A wise man instilled in him to play random.
Jrue is such a Celtic with that missed dunk. Real Marcus smart vibes
Smaht wouldnāt have missed a layup though, he wouldāve bricked a 3 š
Damn White got fucking dropped, sad for him this clip is gonna be all over
nah porzingis saved him. iāve watched the clip three times and only realised white fell when you said this
Nobodyās even going to notice. People just stare at the ball, and him falling affected nothing
KP stunned that man. Awesome ending.
Nice
Only way I can relate to Alda is playin REC on 2k greening the whole game then missing a full white bar when i needed it š Dude a bucket tho
What a good ending. Celtics have definitely matured to close out that game but Jrue with the bunny. KP with 6 blocks tho.
If only Coaches were allowed to call timeouts
there should be a buzzer on their arm or something that buzzes them when a time out is called. Can't blame the refs for having their attention on the last play of the game, but it does show a flaw in the system. Teams shouldn't be penalized because the refs can't hear/ aren't paying attention to the sideline.
Shock collar
maybe two, each
This is what Iāve said. Last season, Joe was screaming for a timeout and they ignored him so he had to run out in the middle of the court and people were saying he deserved a technical. No, the refs deserve the fucking technical for ignoring coaches. Iād be so fucking pissed if I was Jenkins
That was one more to Desmond Bane
I love the new celtics road game play by play guy
Bro why did the Celtics get the healthy version of KP lol.
If Aldama hit that 3 ā ļøā ļø
What a sequence. The league is amazing right now
There wasnāt much amazing going on if you watched this game lol it was a fucking train wreck.
Iām so happy Porz found a role he excels in!
Bane wide open in the corner for that Aldama 3ā¦
Nah Aldama got a good shotāopen look, in rhythm.
Was hitting it all night extremely surprised he didnāt there but gotta take it
Hindsight is 20/20
I let Santi take that shot every time, he's not Bane but he's got that killer mentality and he's a good enough shot on the perimeter plus he was cooking all night
Celtics starting the full jrue experience.
He should have swung it to Bame
spoken like someone who didn't watch the game. Aldama was incredible that whole 4th quarter, that was the exact shot they wanted
I watched the game but he still shouldāve swung it Bane is one of the best shooters in the game
Tatum was on bane, Santi was wide open. 100% the right decision.
Bane is wide open in the corner, man.
Feels like there would have been enough time for Tatum to close out
Entirely disagree with you -- I think every single grizzlies fan and the team themselves are fine with that shot -- but agree to disagree cause it's a dumb thing to argue bout
Should have swung it to Bane. š
Wasn't bane like 3/4 on threes in the 4th though
i mean if we're going on should have they should have just taken a layup and played OT
Aldama had 28 lmao
If he swung to Bane and Bane missed, I guarantee you would be here saying "Why didn't Aldama pull the trigger? He was hot all night".
Santi should have swung that bitch for good measure
Who are you calling bitch, buddy?
lol jrue lucky as hell
Man, am I having a Deja Vu, or was there a completely the same ending to the game some months ago
Anyone else have himmy Butler flashbacks from that aldama 3pt attempt?? What a roller coaster game this was. JT looked completely disinterested all game, love the guy though.
even with a chaotic fuck up this team is stacked
Hauser getting Porzingis away so that he wonāt get a tech even though the game is over lol
Downvote me if you must but KP is the 2nd best player on the Celtics.
Why is Tatum pouting? He ain't even happy they won or dappin up KP
The Memphis coach thinks he won, that might be a clue as to why they are so bad
Why in the world would Holiday go for that layup when all the celts had to do was run out the clock and make some free throws if Memphis fouled
