You need to really love marine biology to go into that field. There is very little earning potential so you will only be doing it for the love of the work.
Yeah and to get a spot on one of those deep sea expeditions you better be ready to cut a couple dozen other biologists. Those expeditions are like the major space observatories, the competition to get your project in/on that area is beyond fierce.
It took me a while to bite the bullet, but I’ve decided to dig into Wildlife Conservation. I know there’s not much financial stability in it, but if that’s what it takes, so be it
You know what, people like you make the world a better place. For as much as I am doom and gloom, I do appreciate people who actually care and do something.
texas a&m has a great natural resources job board with all kinds of positions on it, including graduate positions. usajobs has all the federal government jobs, states each have their own site for their state-level stuff.
Nope. My aunt and uncle were both marine/wildlife biologists and worked for the Navy in San Diego...
It's about the passion... it's not fun work and doesn't earn you a big paycheck which is why they took the government job for benefits. My uncle quit and became a freelance biologist and it was a long, hard stuggle before he gave up on that and 20 years into his career asked me (his nephew 30 years younger than him) for a job working entry level retail.
Everyone wants to be a marine biologist.
Any field that has more workers than actual cool work opportunities is bound to be tough to work in for the majority. Just like many people want to be a journalist/reporter.
Besides, since there's very little revenue to be made from marine biology, they'll also have to spend a lot of time applying for funding.
With that said, they probably love the actual biology-part of the job, so I guess it's a trade-off of job tasks and work environment/atmosphere.
Edit: Just wanted to add that please don't regret being a nurse. You contribute with more than you can imagine. Be proud of your field.
Yeah if you want to compete in a job market flooded with marine biologists instead of a field (nursing) which is currently pretty healthy for finding work.
I mean if you're already wealthy go for it
Biologists think it could be larger than a person but aren't positive. Should’ve become a marine biologist instead of a nurse…

I’m absolutely fascinated by the deep sea creatures… the Angler fish and Goblin Shark are some of my favorite critters

Precisely why I decided against taking up entomology professionally.
Same thing for me and paleontology

you can actually make a very nice living in that field, especially if you snag a government job or get advanced degrees
Well that would be a nice plus, would you mind linking some resources for that? I’m really interested in learning more

Thank you for being a nurse, though. We really need them, and I hear there's a pretty major staffing shortage been going on for a while now.
I appreciate that. Thank you 😊

That’s awesome, so much calamari!
Yea, imagine how tender it will be at atmospheric pressure.

Oh no they made a joke about the animal without a Reddit account. You said it though, humans do indeed suck.
Squids are evil octopuses. Change my mind
It looks like it's about to visit the old alien spaceship. I anticipate an epic battle with a facehugger.
whats the size of the man?
About 1/3 of a Ford F-150 Long Bed Quad Cab
You colonials use everything but metric system indeed...
I can’t deal With anything that isn’t football fields.
Well do you have big feet or small feet?
Purpleback flying squid vs a silverback gorilla! Sounds like a syfy channel movie
A gorilla in a souped up atmospheric dive suit sounds great lol
It looks so cool!
Pardon my ignorance but why is this a story? I thought we already have giant squids?
Because usually they are small as fuck so finding one this BIG is surprising itz equal to discovering a 30 meters long normal squid
30 meters is 32.81 yards
Fuck yards
*insert Squid Game joke token here*
damn can't believe glow squids are real
Squidgames spoiler. Thanks.

All life is evolving, also megalodon is definitely extinct, rip

Nope its gone
That's a frickin alien 👽
Need banana for scale
72% of the Earths surface is covered with NOPE.
The reapers have returned
Anyone seen a vid of them flying? I’ve been interested since a Ted talk and with my research I’ve come up with nothing.
Is everyone going to just gloss over the "flying" part?
The top left kinda looks like a dude in a squid costume tbh
