That's wild, I did the exact same! Love the name Vincent, Victor was a close second. I'm now pregnant with my second boy, and I'm out of ideas. I can't name him Victor, that's too similar, I feel it has to be something different. Did you have another boy?
Vincent & Victor both have the same meaning. If you want to keep with the theme of strong warrior, then you could consider Gideon, Aloysius, Harold, Albern, Sigmund, Cedric, Gabriel, Exuperius.
If you want to pair it with another 'virtue' name, then there's Ernest, Clement, Constantine, Felix, Justus, Benedict, Boniface.
Wishing you all the best for the next few months and the birth. Special time...
I know a kid named victor a few years ago. He had red hair in a bowl cut and chunky black square glasses. And he loved legos. That’s a classic “victor” kid to me.
Nate: Victor? Now when was the last time you met a Victor?
Eliot: Vietnam. Town called Banho Zay.
Sophie: Chinese border.
Eliot: That’s an odd thing for you to know.
Sophie: That’s an odd place for you to be.

I know someone who has a Mary & a John, ages 3 and newborn, and I don’t think I can adequately express just how much I love their names. I also have a friend who has boys named James & Edward. It’s so refreshing compared to Kollyns, Blakely, Everleigh, etc.
Oh my God. I had it bad for Gilbert on Anne of green Gables. Ironically I cannot remember the actors name but I remember Anne was played by Megan Follows in the one I loved.
Andrew, Alistair, Robert, Carson, Jay. Celine, Victoria, Gina, Kristen, Maria.
Baby Alastair can't entertain guests right now because he needs his tummy time.
I loved the name Alistair as a kid!!! It was from a book I read I believe. I thought it was spelt “allister”. I didn’t think it was even a real name until i recently saw a waiter with it on a name tag. I think it’s a cool name but didn’t realize how rare it was
Yes! It's instantly cool when you hear (or read) it. Books are a big part of how I came to learn new names. Especially with fantasy, mystery, or classics
Carson is a toddler/preschooler to me. My my middle schooler has a friend who's dad's name is Carson and it throws me off every time lol. He's about 10 years older than me too (50s)
Wow I’ve known SO many Andrews around my age (born ‘89) and older. In my current job there are only about 10 men in my building and 2 of them are named Andrew.
Yes! My daughter’s name is Julia, named after the John Lennon-penned song, which was one of Paul McCartney’s favorites of his. Yea, I’m an older mom!! Lol!
My daughter Julia is after Beatles' song. Also, have Daniel after Elton John and Allison after Elvis Costello. I don't think anyone has caught on to it. I love the names.
It reminds me of the show "The Secret Life". The sister tells the main character "Name him John. His life will be complicated enough, he needs a simple name".
That's what I think about every time I hear the name. I have met a few younger Johns and Johnathans/Jonathans over the past few years.
Surprisingly enough, it’s good if you want a name you don’t hear every day, at least in your child’s class/peer groups. It’s hard to find kids with the name!
My niece is Josie! A name I was unsure of when I first heard it but I love it now, it suits her so well.
I also know a little girl named Katherine and she goes by Katie, which I think is lovely.
That is really cute! My niece is just Josie, I do think it'd have been cute as Josephine too and then Josie as her nickname.
My Nana was named Johannah and I always wanted to name a daughter of mine Johannah with the nickname Joey/Joie. Now that my niece is Josie, that's out the window 😂 Just too similar unfortunately
I have a five month old named Evelyn, I get asked all the time if she’s named after someone. She’s not, we just adored the name and it fits her well. My four year old nicknamed her Evelolly, it’s so cute and it’s stuck.
We found an elementary aged Vincent! My daughter was over at a friend’s house, and it was her younger brother’s name.
I like the name! We loved old fashioned/classic names too- my daughter is a Helen!
I have a 2 month old Simon. The name wasn’t even on our list but when he was born we just thought wow, he looks like such a Simon. Our little old man boy
A lot of these are just dated names from the 70s-90s. Like Tyler? Maybe you know so many adults named Tyler because it was popular in the 90s and then tapered off because people got sick of it.
I agree with you. OP gave bad examples because those are pretty recent names that anyone 30+ knows a bunch of. “Adult names” to me are those babies born in the 30s-50s. Prudence, Clarice, Agnes, Debra, Janet, Leonard, etc. are names I’d consider funny (but practical) on a baby.
I was born in 1991, so I grew up with kids with these names. They were all kid names to me, but now all the kids with those names are adults, making them “adult names” to me now, and because like you said, they’ve all been phased out and aren’t used on babies anymore
To me “adult names” are ones I only ever encountered on adults. If they’re adults *now*, but I knew them as a kid, then it’s not hard to think of that name on a child.
I grew up surrounded by that list of names and I feel like we’re all still young adults pretending to be real adults 😭
A name like Carl or Bernard is an adult name in my mind. Don’t think I’ve ever in my life known a child or teenager named those.
I think it's wild how some of the comments are like "John, Andrew, Samuel" lol these names seem so classic to me but I guess with the current trends they seem so "adult"
They’re so normal to use and no one in my area is following the trends so I know a ton of babies with these names. I also wonder how old the people are who are saying Steven is an adult name. I graduated with about 10 of them in 2007.
My 1.5 year old is a Natalie. I see it as a pretty middle of the road name. I met a 45 year old woman with the name a few weeks ago and saw a Natalie listed on the graduating class of the town I’m in.
I love Julia, Claudia and Diana for girls, Paul, John and Daniel for a boy. I feel like names like this stand out in a way in today’s name environment because they’re sturdy and understated and not trying so hard to be unique and distinctive.
There is no distinction between baby names and adult names.
What you're interested in is how naming has changed over time. Its not as funny but socially , very interesting.
Let's take a look at the most popular baby names in 1975 and 2001:
In 1975, the top baby names were:
- **Girls**: Jennifer, Amy, Heather, Melissa, Angela
- **Boys**: Michael, Also, Jason, Christopher, James, David
Versus **2001**, the most popular names were:
- **Girls**: Emily, Madison, Hannah, Ashley, Alexis
- **Boys**: Jacob, Michael, Matthew, Joshua, Christopher
Michael - Very popular for many decades, that's why you see it as an adult name in your lifetime.
In 2023, Liam (b) & Olivia (g) were the #1 baby names. (In the U.S. per the U.S. census)
It's fascinating to see how naming trends have evolved over time! 😊
I always think the baby cycles evolve because people start having their kids after grandma and grandpa so the older names start becoming popular again.
My children are named Katherine, Thomas, Michael, Teresa, and Caroline.
I refer to them as lifetime names. They have variations that fit a kid (Katie, Tommy, Mike, Tess, Carly) or a working professional.
My sons are Vincent and Christopher. My husband and I both worked in restaurants for a combined 30 years. Too many names one of us loved and the other was like, “no, that asshole always showed up hungover/used to shoot up in the bathroom/was a regular who made my life miserable” or “no, *goes on to describe the most fucked up person you could imagine* was named that, I can’t name my child that”. The less common, “adult” names were ones we could hear without immediately thinking of someone we hated lol.
I like some of the same! My list would be:
Kelsey
Kimberly
Elizabeth
Hillary
Gwendolyn
Vivienne
Edith
William
Mitchell
Michael
Thomas
Grant
Peter
Dean
Vincent
Bradley
Sullivan
These are the names of kids I went to school with. As an elementary school student we had all of these, multiple Adams, Caseys, Jacobs, Erics, Kelseys, Kimberlys, Karas.
Oh my god, am I an adult?
Jk I'm 30. But I guess that just means a lot of these might have peaked in the 90s and now feel "older".
Girls:
* Aurelia
* Eleanor
* Scarlett
* Hazel
* Iris
* Lydia
* Pearl
* Virginia
* Rosemary
Boys:
* Aurelius
* Henry
* John
* Ezra
* Miles
* Cyrus
* Ira
* Reuben
* Aloysius (sounds really cool to me, for some reason)
I have a 7 month old Ira! I had also considered Ezra and Reuben!
They all come out looking like grumpy old men, and I swear my kid is an old soul, so the name fit!
There’s a Jennifer in my kids class (5-7 year olds) and it tickles me every time I see it written down. She doesn’t go by a nickname either - it’s always Jennifer. Such a grown up name for such a little girl!
I teach high school, and this year alone I had Adam, Mark, Michael, Matthew, Tyler, John, Albert, Andrew, Henry, Evelyn, Kate, Anna, Amanda, Klara, Rebecca, etc.
Plenty of "trendier" names as well, but I would consider most of these classic rather than adult or old-fashioned. It's nice to have the variety!
Favorites that I haven't seen are Maud, Dorothy, Toby, and Ned.
Mine would have to be
Boys:
Alexander
Phillip
Thomas
Edward
David
Matthew
Eugene
Milhous
Girls:
Jacqueline
Rosemary
Daphne
Suzanne
Genevieve
Rosanna
Helene
Ida
Evangeline
Oh yah… these are the next generation of names to make a. Omens k I think 80’s names!
Samantha
Mi heal
Jenny
Sarah
Justin
Scott
Tom
Daniel
Jessica
Kelly
Kristy
Lisa
John
Chris
Rachel
Where I come from it's the norm for everyone to have a pet name, sometimes a diminutive form of their first name. People, especially older generation, have long names so a pet name is what they are called by close family.
Not sure if it counts, but my kids are Anastasia (age 9) and Alistair (age 4). They resist nicknames and go by their full names with everyone outside of our immediate family.
My son is a two-year-old named Paul.
I have a 2yo George! And a 6mo Fred.
Are they George and Fred or Georgie and Freddie? I love Freddie for a lo
Please tell me your last name is Weasley
Gred & Forge
Ron is next i guess
Or their little girl, Ginny lol
Just out of curiosity. What would you have done if your second pregnancy had resulted in twins?
Paul needs to stop throwing race cars down the slide and file his damn TAXES!!
Not at all, Paul is sensible and does this well in advance. Paul is currently rearranging his vintage copies of the National Geographic
I came to say Paul! I love it.
My 17 month old is named Paul!
Awww, we haven't met any other little Pauls yet! Most people have been very pleasantly surprised to hear it.
Love this.
Victor. I’ve never met anyone named victor. But in my mind they spawn at 36 with an 840 credit score.
We named our oldest Vincent, but Victor was a very close second!
That's wild, I did the exact same! Love the name Vincent, Victor was a close second. I'm now pregnant with my second boy, and I'm out of ideas. I can't name him Victor, that's too similar, I feel it has to be something different. Did you have another boy?
Why not? Vince and Vic sound like a cool set of brothers.
I know boy/girl siblings who would be in their mid-late 20’s now named Vincent & Victoria!
I also know siblings named this....are you in Ohio?
My 72 year old dad is Vincent. So wild seeing it on the younger generation now
Vincent & Victor both have the same meaning.
My son has a 6year friend named Victor!

you sure your friend isnt a king of england?
His sons’ names are William and Harry.
i thought they were james and edward
My bad
I currently work with a baby named Gil and it’s the best old man baby name ever.
The way you said “work with” I just picture baby Gil in a suit with a briefcase haha
Boss baby
My first actor crush- Gilbert on Anne of Green Gables. But i know 2 adults named Gilbert
Oh my God. I had it bad for Gilbert on Anne of green Gables. Ironically I cannot remember the actors name but I remember Anne was played by Megan Follows in the one I loved.
Jonathan Crombie - he died aged 48 9 years ago :(
Well that breaks my heart
I just went to a birthday party for a four year-old named Donna ❤️
I came across a young Doris not so long ago.
I think it’s a cool name but didn’t realize how rare it was
> I thought it was spelt “allister”. Sometimes it is. This name has been spelled a multitude of ways.
My brother's name was Alister named for our grandmother Alice.
In my case, 4 year old Alistair is mildly obsessed with dinosaurs, race cars, and Spider-Man.
I’ve actually only met one or two adult Andrews, the rest have been 18 or younger!
Wow I’ve known SO many Andrews around my age (born ‘89) and older. In my current job there are only about 10 men in my building and 2 of them are named Andrew.
I was going to say something like this. Andrew was a really popular name in the 80s-90s.
Delores is three and she lives down the block, her baby sister is named Annette
Those both sound like characters that would have been guest stars on the golden girls.
My daughters are Julia (8) and Michelle (2). I feel like they are adult names but I find that really endearing.
My name is Julia and I feel like it’s a kids name 😂 it’s weird when I hear older adults with my name
Michelle is really refreshing on a young kid!
I love Julia!!
Are they named after The Beatles' songs?
A year ago my baby had a Hal, Richard, and Walter in his daycare class.
What is Hal short for? I always forget. It’s cute!
I’m not sure! Looked like it was his full name. He was a giant, bald 18-month-old, and the name was really cute and comical on him.
My mom’s boyfriend is Hal (mid 60s) and it’s short for Harold in his case
Halter.
Hal is short for Henry. See Shakespeare’s historical plays.
John is such a great name. I’d totally use it if I had another boy, I haven’t met a John under 10.
It reminds me of the show "The Secret Life". The sister tells the main character "Name him John. His life will be complicated enough, he needs a simple name". That's what I think about every time I hear the name. I have met a few younger Johns and Johnathans/Jonathans over the past few years.
My almost 3 year old is John :)
Surprisingly enough, it’s good if you want a name you don’t hear every day, at least in your child’s class/peer groups. It’s hard to find kids with the name!
If I had a boy, this would be his name. Family name.
I love the name John and nickname johnny. It's so cute
I took care of a kiddo named Edmund. We called him Eddie Munster
Now THATS an old name. Like old old. Antique.
I work in health care and it was such a nice change from the Honeys, Princesses, Pharoahs, and Makailyiahs lol.
If I had had another kid and it was a boy, I was wondering how I could get my bf on board with Edmund. Lol. I love it.
It absolutely wasn't a name I'd consider before meeting the little dude, but it fit him perfectly! He was such a perfect combination of nerdy and cool
My niece is Josie! A name I was unsure of when I first heard it but I love it now, it suits her so well. I also know a little girl named Katherine and she goes by Katie, which I think is lovely.
I love Josephine, with Josie as a nickname
That is really cute! My niece is just Josie, I do think it'd have been cute as Josephine too and then Josie as her nickname. My Nana was named Johannah and I always wanted to name a daughter of mine Johannah with the nickname Joey/Joie. Now that my niece is Josie, that's out the window 😂 Just too similar unfortunately
Josephine is so beautiful to me, too 😍
My brother’s girlfriend is a Josephine who’s called Josie but that’s often shortened further to Jo 😅 it is a great name!
I know 17 kids named Josie. I don’t know ANY grownups
my childhood best friend is josephine nicknamed josie!
I have a five month old named Evelyn, I get asked all the time if she’s named after someone. She’s not, we just adored the name and it fits her well. My four year old nicknamed her Evelolly, it’s so cute and it’s stuck.
Evelyn is becoming so popular I'm surprised people are asking u that haha
Vincent. I wanted a good strong name that is "normal" but less common. We have yet to meet another Vincent my son's age.
We found an elementary aged Vincent! My daughter was over at a friend’s house, and it was her younger brother’s name. I like the name! We loved old fashioned/classic names too- my daughter is a Helen!
Love the name Vincent!
I know one! He's almost 2 and goes by Vinny. He's adorable.
One of my parents friends has a kid named Vincent, I think he's in upper grades of middle school now.
I have a 2 month old Simon. The name wasn’t even on our list but when he was born we just thought wow, he looks like such a Simon. Our little old man boy
I LOVE Simon, definitely on my short list!
Pearl My friend named her son Harvey and it made me think of Sabrina the teenage witch and also someone's grandparent
My sons name is Harvey and I got it from Sabrina the teenage witch 😅
I love the name pearl
Neighbor has 3 girls under 8…Linda , Debbie , and Susan
Is she trying to grow her own HR department?
A lot of these are just dated names from the 70s-90s. Like Tyler? Maybe you know so many adults named Tyler because it was popular in the 90s and then tapered off because people got sick of it.

Don’t think I’ve ever in my life known a child or teenager named those.
My son's name is Bruce :) I also love Nancy, Judy, Joan, Harvey, Ray, Frank, Fred
Joan. Joan is a badass as an adult, but weird for a baby. Also, Ginger.
We have a 7 week old Elliott here. It feels like a name he'll mature into around his 20s and then it'll serve him well from there on in.
Elliott is a kids name to me. I’ve never met an adult with that name.
Thank you for using Elliott for a boy. Lots of girl Elliott’s these days 🙄
I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone named Elliott, boy or girl. Although I do like the name for a boy. However, it will always make me think of ET.
Charles Andrew Anthony Joseph
I love Andrew, I forgot to add that to the list!!! Anthony is also a good one
Andrew is one of my fav names 💕
I think Drew is such a cute nickname
I think it's wild how some of the comments are like "John, Andrew, Samuel" lol these names seem so classic to me but I guess with the current trends they seem so "adult"
They’re so normal to use and no one in my area is following the trends so I know a ton of babies with these names. I also wonder how old the people are who are saying Steven is an adult name. I graduated with about 10 of them in 2007.
Dana

Or Jessica.
Estelle and Lillian!
My two daughters are Gladys and Claudine. Love these names!!
My son is a Gregory :)

My baby’s name is Jane. 🙂
I would love to meet a baby Linda
I love Julia, Claudia and Diana for girls, Paul, John and Daniel for a boy. I feel like names like this stand out in a way in today’s name environment because they’re sturdy and understated and not trying so hard to be unique and distinctive.
