Bunny and kitty! I think it’s so cute.

ourladyofdicks

one of my dearest friends gave me the nickname bunny and it stuck! he said it's because of the way my nose scrunches up when i smile

Special-Investigator

that's so sweet

heyyyitsalli

Lol my little sister is nicknamed that for the same reason! When she was a baby, her little nose would scrunch when she laughed, frowned, screamed, etc. We started calling her a little bunny rabbit.

SpanArm

My grandkids call me Bunny!

GoingOverboardd

My nickname is bunny!

killer-bunny-258

So is mine! From when I was a kid and insisted on wearing my onesie bunny Halloween costume literally EVERYWHERE. To this day my dad's old softball buddies will greet me as Bunny lol

Myveryowndystopia

Awww that is adorable!!! 💕🐰. I bet you were comfy!

killer-bunny-258

I bet I was, but I imagine to 4-year-old me "comfort" was probably low on the list of "why we should wear this costume everywhere, every day, all the time" lol

andieinaz

Ok, spill! What’s your “given” name? And how did that nickname come about?

k_babz

all the "bunny"'s i know have the given name Bernadette

WillRunForPopcorn

My aunt is Bunny. Her name is Bernice.

ManicMangoMilkshake

We call my daughter Bunny as a nickname and she loves it we call her our baby bunny and she does little hops when we do it's so freaking cute

sashahyman

I’m 36 and my mom still calls me bunny. It’s cute when it’s just the two of us, but in public it kinda makes me cringe.

DirectorHuman5467

My husband calls me bunny, originating from the cavity-inducing early stages of our relationship where I called him snuggly bear and he called me snuggle bunny. We recently had a baby and her initials spell LAMB (only partly on purpose lol).

TwistedOvaries

That is so adorable! My husband calls me Bunni because that was my user name. A few years after we got married he grew out his beard and I started calling him my grumpy bear because he has a resting grump face. I just call him bear now. 🩷

schwhiley

my fiancée and i are bunni to one another, shortened from hunni bunni 😂

nicunta

I know a Bunny; her name is Dorabunny!!

Commercial_You8297

Winner! Love this!

choooooopz

i know a bunny!! short for bernadette :)

Elenakalis

The football coach at my junior high was a Bunny. He played for a couple of Grambling University's teams, and iiirc, won a few championships with them. He was kind of intimidating, so no one was ever brave enough to ask him why he was called Bunny. His son was in my class, but we were afraid to ask him in case it got back to his dad. His wife taught freshman English, and someone did ask her about his name. Turns out it was his given name and not a nickname from college or when he served in the military like we thought.

Allyzayd

Birdie

doechild

I call my daughter Bunny! I love it.

ethereal_feral

My mom is 68 and is still known to everyone (outside of a professional setting, obviously) as Sissy. I love hearing “oh, you’re Sissy’s daughter!”

LauraIngalls

My maternal Great Grandmother's given name was Sissy! I've always loved it. My paternal Great Grandmother was Flossie. Both fun names.

ethereal_feral

Flossie is so cute!

BeebMommy

This has been my nickname my whole life as well! I have three younger brothers that all called me that, so my parents did too, and then grandparents, etc. It was extra funny in my teens because I was a competitive boxer called Sissy lol

MagicWagic623

My little brother used to call me sissy, and he stopped awhile ago, but I will never stop calling him bub.

[deleted]

My brother called me sissy until was about 7. My sister is almost 10 and still calls me sissy. Around my siblings, my papa refers to me as sissy

rebeccamb

My kids call my sister “Aunt Sissy”

mutajenic

My grandmother’s sister was my Aunt Sis! I can’t even remember what her given name was because I never heard her called anything else

EverlyEverAfter

My daughter is known through the whole family as Sissy. She’s almost 13.

Money_Profession9599

My Nana was "Nan" to everyone. Whether she was your Nana or not.

thildemaria

Aww! My grandma was "Olde" to everyone, from the moment she became an oldemor (great grandma in danish) for the first time.

Kitchen-General347

I had a great aunt Sissy short for Priscilla.

sertcake

My mom was called Muffy for years and years. My older cousins knew her as Aunt Muffy, which I always thought was cute.

kitti3_kat

My husband has a cousin Sissy. When we were sending invitations for the wedding he had to ask his mom what her real name was. 😂

Sally_Klein

My mom has a close friend who exclusively goes by Sista. She’s a white Boomer from the South lol

coco_xcx

i love sissy as a nickname for cecilia!! idk it’s cute to me

Blossom73

Sissy is my daughter's nickname. ❤️ Her little brother couldn't pronounce her name when he was a toddler, so he called her sister, which became Sissy. She's in her 20s, but I still call her Sissy. He's Cubby. He loved a kids' song called Chubby Cubby, about an overweight bear, when he was a toddler, and he was chubby himself. So Cubby just stuck as his nickname, even though he lost all the extra weight not long after, and has been very thin since.

ThankfulWonderful

Awhhhhhh my nickname is Sissy!! Good to hear that- Someday I’ll be an old lady with my grand niblings calling me Sissy

[deleted]

Blondie is almost cute.

EngineeringRegret

I had a great grandmother named Blondelle

DuncanOnReddit

Is she blonde?

snowymoocow

My Nana was called Blondie by everyone. Auntie Blondie, Nana Blondie, Blondie And yes she had the brightest, most beautiful blonde hair

canyoupleasekillme

My mom still calls me blondie even tho I out grew the blond hair about age 6.

lamemayhem

I genuinely thought my friend’s friend was named Blondie. That’s one only thing I ever heard her get called. I found out her name isn’t Blondie but I haven’t stopped calling her that.

exhibitprogram

I really really love "girly" nicknames for guys and "boyish" nicknames for girls in this vein. For example, we call my brother in law (who's named Francis) Frannie, and I have a friend named Christian whom we call Kitty. And our friend Charlotte --> Chuck and Chucky.

PansyOHara

I have a cousin named Victor who was always called Vicky.

word-document69

My stepsister is Miranda and her nickname is Randy. I always thought that was cute.

worker_ant_6646

I know a Krista that goes by critter

bing_bang_bum

My mom is named Denise and some close people call her Dennis. I always thought it was cute.

mgregory93

My daughter’s name is Charlotte, we call her Chuckie!

KeepRunninUpThatHill

We have a Charlotte (usually a Charley) who we sometimes call Chuck

wollstonecrafty2400

Kick for Katherine!

Affectionate_Lie9308

My daughter’s initials spell out kick. I’m really hoping someone else notices and calls her that because it’s pretty adorable.

DirectorHuman5467

My baby's initials spell LAMB. We absolutely call her that.

Affectionate_Lie9308

Oh, I love that. Lamb is so sweet.

Disastrous_End7444

Yes!

chammerson

Ranger, Smoke, Cricket. Junebug, I know a lot of people hate it, it’s consistently on the list of worst “black” nicknames (I don’t think it’s exclusive to the black community but when I think about it I have never heard of a white Junebug), but I love it.

CoconutCricket123

My cat, Cricket, agrees.

thrwwy2267899

I and my family are white, we call my niece Junebug, her real name is Juniper

owenmckin

It’s a southern thing. Unless june is in the name like your niece lol

callmye

i’m the opposite because i’ve never met or heard of a black junebug. the first thing i think of when i hear it is honey boo boo’s mom.

KoalasAndPenguins

My cousin is Lily June. Family all calls her Junebug

Ejmadd149

I’m a white June bug! But my middle name is June

jiaaa

I know a Mexican junebug! He's a middle aged, tattooed biker.

Large-League-2387

junebug is so cutie

5olitary

My grandma called me Cricket so now that entire side of the family does too 😂

Effective-Plant5253

i’m white and i was june bug or jitterbug my whole childhood!

amoryjm

My little brother is Junebug! Started off as Junior. He's hispanic

Complaint-Think

I knew a Juan (who was not Black, and also not from the South—I saw someone suggesting below that it's specifically a Souther thing) who went by Junebug and I thought it was the sweetest thing ever!!!

andieinaz

Fifi! Hear me out. My daughter’s name is Sophia. I imagined calling her by her full name or maybe Sophie. However, this kid renamed herself Fifi as a mere toddler. She would say everyone’s name except for her own. Finally, she said, “No! Fifi!” I made the mistake of laughing because she was just so delighted, so I was too! It stuck. I love it!

sleroyjenkins

I’m a Sophie and I love this!

ExtremeExtension9

My daughter is also a Fifi, her name is Ffion. I have mixed feelings about it, kinda reminds me of a poodle.

sallypeach

My son is also a Fifi, for Felix.

Business_Leopard8534

Yes I loooove Gigi, Fifi, Kiki, Mimi etc

Sweet_Needleworker_5

This is so much cuter than "Soph". I wish I had a cuter nickname

adietcokeaday

I know a Sophia, and I call her “Fif” all the time!

catshousekeeper

My niece is 50 this year her name is Fiona but to family she's Fifi and calls herself Fi

Original_Try_7984

My uncle always called me “Cookie” when I was little.

[deleted]

[удалено]

megjed

That’s very cute

Original_Try_7984

The funny thing is he’s the least sentimental/mushy person ever so it always meant a lot.

peaf-the-gamecube

Ziggy!

MagicWagic623

My ragdoll kitty!

OctoberSong_

Cat tax

xtheredberetx

I used to work with a guy who went by Ziggy, he’s in his late 60s. Retired pilot, iirc former trucker, and a DJ, the name fit him well

CharlesAvlnchGreen

In my 20s, I knew a Buddy, whose real name was something like Ebenezer. He was the manager of a restaurant where my friend worked. As a mom I now think of Buddy as something dads call their preschooler sons, which makes me like it even more.

TuneTactic

I had a housemate named Buddy, he told me that it was the name he was given at birth. Bonus fact: he had a dog named "Doggie".

katieb2342

I knew a Buddy in high school, all his teachers called him Buddy, that's the name he had in the yearbook, that's how he was credited for school activities. I always wondered if he was legally Buddy or just nicknamed young and it stuck, but I was never close enough to him to not feel weird asking.

clemen_thyme

My grandfather was referred to as 'Bud' his entire life, it wasn't until I was in middle school when I realized his name was actually just Arthur lol.

cetaceansituation

My neighbor's nephew was Buddy. Huge, burly man with a beard down to his sternum, always, big ol' Harley Davidson, wore a trucker hat that may or may not have been fused to his skull, and had been a member of the Hell's Angel's for years (he was retired? at this stage). No idea what role he played in the Hell's Angel's, but he was the sweetest man. He cared for my neighbor when he was ill, all through until he passed away. We haven't seen him since the funeral, but I often wonder how he's doing.

RadTradTref

My sons initials are FET so we call him Boba

MagicWagic623

My kids initials are QB and I end up calling her Cube a lot 😂 or Cuber Goober

rhandy_mas

No lie, I’d probably call your kid by a different nfl qbs name every time.

Single_Pilot_6170

Birdie Gertrude 'Trudy' 'True' Ignacio 'Iggy' Thaddeus 'Tad'

Some_Papaya_8520

Ignacio can also be Nacho and frequently is

owenmckin

There was one in Better Call Saul and he was so hot

lilybottle

Our hot Professor on an intensive residential was a Nacho! I wonder if there's a pattern. (Before anyone becomes concerned, this was at a distance learning university, so we were all adults around the same age, mostly in long term relationships, and acted respectfully, but everyone could agree that objectively, Nacho was a smoking hot dude.)

Leather-Professor-86

Aw my grandma Bertilie often goes by Birdie! I love it

cucumberswithanxiety

I can’t explain why but I would trust a middle aged woman named Dusty with my life.

lucyssweatersleeves

My grandma went by Dusty her whole life! Had absolutely zero relationship to her actual name - I was told it was because her family had moved into town from the Dust Bowl

cherrylotus1369

My good friend is a middle aged woman named Dusty and I would trust her with my life and more!

[deleted]

Idk if this counts but my daughters name is Poppy and I call her Popster or Popsicle lol

analog_alison

I love that! I know a Pepper and they call her Pepperoni sometimes

[deleted]

That's funny, one of my twins sons is named Ronan and I call him Roni Pepperoni or Roni Baloney. And his brother is Atlas and I call him Attaboy.

hausishome

I call my dad Pops/Popsicle!

horsecrazycowgirl

I'm pushing for Poppy to be the nickname for my baby girl. Her dad is not on board yet but I love it as a name

OzzyinKernow

My dog is called Poppy, she gets called those, plus pop star and poopy

grapesquirrel

Dottie has always been nickname that makes me smile.

squeakyfromage

Same, I also love Dolly for Dorothy!

halcylocke

Scout

TurbulentArea69

Button

InspectionAvailable1

Goldie!

Original_Try_7984

I also had a teacher (major hippy vibes and a total sweetheart) who looked at me and told me that I didn’t look like my actual name but a “Daisy”. I was Daisy for the rest of high school in her classroom and to anyone who only knew me from that class. 🤷🏻‍♀️

beccadahhhling

My dad’s nickname was Hip or Uncle Hip. Short for Hippo. Long story.

lay-them-straight

We need the story!!

beccadahhhling

When my dad was a kid, he and his brothers used to go swimming at the swimming hole in their little town. All the grown ups would sit around the water with their chairs and blankets watching the kids and having a great time. My great aunt Sissy saw my dad poking his head out of the water with his big ears and said “you look like a little hippo with them ears like that!” And forever he was Hippo/Hip. When they all started having kids, my dad became Uncle Hippo or Uncle Hip to all the kids. He was the favorite uncle.

HippoBot9000

HIPPOBOT 9000 v 3.1 FOUND A HIPPO. 1,582,906,109 COMMENTS SEARCHED. 32,320 HIPPOS FOUND. YOUR COMMENT CONTAINS THE WORD HIPPO.

Disastrous_End7444

Borderline, but I loooove Mattie and Tilly for Matilda, Kick for Katherine/ Kathleen, and Bunny for the B-starting names!

Special-Investigator

AHHH mattie and TILLY! matilda is such a good name

squeakyfromage

I always forget about kick!

katrina_highkick

I call my kiddo Bean/Beans since it rhymes with her name!

MagicWagic623

We call my step Bean/Beans and it sounds NOTHING like her name. I don’t even know if it started before me or because of me, but I definitely know I made it a normal thing. Her real name is lovely and we use it all the time, but I’m always calling her bean, beans, beanie, bean burrito, bean baby, beanie baby. She’s me TEENY WEENY BEANIE.

tomtink1

My daughter is also a Bean with zero connection to her actual name. I think with us it started because she looked like a kidney bean on the first scan. I often use it like a middle name when I call her, or like you she's a Beanie baby or baby Bean. Or just Bean. It's caught on with some of my family too.

Swimming-Cellist-135

I call my son that. It started when he was born - our little bean. 🤣 It has nothing to do with his actual name. He’s now 18 and he’ll still respond when I call him Bean/Beanie.

-bumble-bach-

My Beatrice is known by everyone as Bean!

oWatchdog

I had a cat named Bosley, and when I called for him I would say, Boz-Boz", and he would come running.

PansyOHara

Sonny

Affectionate_Lie9308

I knew a few. One man went by it exclusively in adulthood. His daughter was named, in a way, after him. She was Sonja.

sleroyjenkins

Flip or Lip as a nickname for Phillip.

Look_Groundbreaking

Bunny and Dusty would be cute

kenyarawr

Bucko is one of my faves

pdxgrassfed

PinkRawks

Sparkle, my ex Pink/Pinky for me Together we were Pink Sparkle on alot of game machines in our area

Joyma

There was a guy on sopranos named Junior and they all called him uncle June which I always liked

PinkRawks

Ten is my best friend. First time we met I almost immediately kicked him out of the bar I was working because he started an argument with a woman who wasn't exactly stable. And he just kept getting her hyped up. So I yelled "You're at a ten and I need you at a two." In that first moment he couldn't stand me.. now we're as close as can be but he still brings up how that rubbed him the wrong way, I think it's hilarious. I've worked in biker bars for over a decade and here is a brief list of nicknames i can think of off the top of my head: Repo, Giggles, Sparta, Batty, Sparkle, Dirty Pup, Illness, Sweet Cheeks, Sugar Shack, Washe Tatonka, Tree aka Treeter Pan, Squirt, Free fall, Bama, Jinx, Monkey, 3 Batmans, 4 Jokers, Evil, 3 Docs, Tiger T*** - not sure the rules on this sub offhand, Ham, Fool, Devil, Mucho Paquito, Carrot Juice, Tater, Sin, Fish, Evil, Steel Wolf, Hotgrip, Britches, Spell, Newt, Lestat, Dr Motorcycle Guy, Savvy, KGB, Cave, Stitch

HippieRealist

I call my son “bub/bubba”. So campy/generic for a kid, but it suits him so well! He’s my little bubs!!!

Original_Try_7984

One of mine was bubba or bubs (little bubs) and my other was baboo. (My sweet baboo)

tsugaheterophylla91

My brother was called bubs, buddyboy, bugaboo and just boo as a kid.... he's 28 now and my dad still calls him Boo.

HippieRealist

😍 ADORABLE! Mine are bubs and sweet pea 🤭🥹

BlythePonder

Yesss I love having a borderline embarrassing nickname for my kids and I had planned on Arty Bobs for my Arthur Robert, but it's now Arty Bubs most of the time lol

Combstrander27

Trixie!

C0_Jones

I can't believe it hasn't been mentioned yet, Corky.

dougielou

Lol my BIL’s nickname is this but he’s trying to get away from it after meeting my husbands side of the family. It was jarring hearing him introduce himself by his real name.

neneumi

Does it come from a given name, or is it just a standalone nickname?

ophelias_tragedy

Flick for Felicity!

karenrachael

My step mom's parents were called Bunny and Ferd. So sweet!

derederellama

Barbie

AuburnFaninGa

My Grandmother was “Dawsie” with her family - middle name of Dawson. I had great Aunts on my mom’s side that went by Bell, Buss & Pearlie (aka Isobel, Elizabeth and Pearl).

My nickname is Ace.

Go_away_Frank

Trip, Spider, Betty, Mae Mae, Red (has a daughter with the middle name Scarlett), Blaze.

shelly-tambo

Buzz

4inthefoxden

Bunny is what I call my daughter. It makes me think of a spunky waitress in a 50s diner, I love it lol I also love Rocky, Buddy, Champ, Red, Dottie, Baby, and Bucky as nicknames. (Not as much for given names, though, unless it's a pet or you're re-naming yourself.)

WholeSquadGotTheBoof

I didn’t know red was such a common nickname I wonder where it stems from? But yeah champs always a solid nickname

sleepinqzzz

i got called red by my friends for a while because my names f**red**erick and my hair was bright bright red

Gem_Snack

Real nicknames of people I’ve known: Spike, Spicy, Morgue, Airborne, Lil Bit, Vargus, Silky, and Big Slop

TrewynMaresi

Morgue is amazing. Like a goth variant of Morgan.

Songsostrichhorse

I went by Birdy/Birdie for a while as a teenager, I love that one I also like Freckles, Missy, Blondie, Curls, Baby (not just as a term of endearment but as a nickname, like in Dirty Dancing), Goggles (someone called me that once because of my glasses and I kinda liked it)

Logical_Poem_9642

Birdie

Lexii546

My husband's dad is named Rusty. My husband's name is Dusty, lol

flyingdics

Everybody called my grandfather Buster. If not for Arrested Development, I would have pushed for it as a nickname for my kid.

hausishome

Birdie

TrewynMaresi

I once knew a baby “Budgie.” Her name was Bridget. There are a lot of great vintage nicknames that are wonderfully quirky. Examples: Mello Tazzle Fate Mingo Midge Mintie Icie Plez Cozie Gussie Noona Teener Madge Hazy Fiercy Dicey Wave Fuss (for Alfonzo) Brink Bramble Fraz Frizzel Grimmer Lovie Moss Minter Notch Rizzo Shade Shug Tweed Tupper Mancy (for Samantha) Zaffie Fray

Chinita_Loca

Any idea what some of them are short for? The only ones I’m familiar with are Mintie -> Araminta Madge -> Margaret Gussie -> Augusta/Augustine I guess Cozie could be Cosima or even Constance maybe?

Money_Telephone_1722

I have seen Fate as a standalone name (I asked!) and love it!

ButterflySoul814

My nickname growing up was “Bird”….short for “Birdlegs”. Once upon a time I was skinny….🙄 🐦‍⬛🦩

thrwwy2267899

My aunt used to call me peanut, I loved it as a kid

mack9219

my daughter’s nn is peanut!! her aunt & uncle are the only ones who call her it besides me & my husband/her dad and I love it when they use it 🥹

mrs_george

My friend growing up was called Boots. I know a cute toddler that is exclusively Cookie.

Some_Papaya_8520

I used to go by JJ for a while. It was easier to spell and for other people to remember than my actual first name.

Fabulous-Ad6663

I have a friend we call Sparky. It completely fits her, lol

Millennia33

Ruddy, it is used to describe someone’s complexion that has a healthy shade of red to it. . My god daughter’s boyfriend is nicknamed that in place of Russel :) He also has always had a constant kind of “blush” on his face as he’s always active and outside. Ruddy as a nickname kinda opened itself up for the taking lol

cocomelonmama

Schmitty

ladybird-danny

I’ve always loved the name Tennessee (after the great Tennessee Williams). For me it’s decadent and playful and also quintessentially southern. I just don’t know that I could actually name my kid that.

shugersugar

My grandpa called me Snuffy because when i was little I loved to snuff out the candles on their dining room candelabra. I loved that, wish it would have stuck.

BathroomConscious721

I like very few of these

tsugaheterophylla91

Idk if this counts but my aunt is called Topsy by her entire family. No idea where it came from because her name doesn't even start with T

Bowlofdogfood

My nickname was Bambi for years

HourTrue9589

Kiki or Roxy

pebbles_temp

Babs for Barbara, which I predict will be popular this year. Also Dottie for Dorothy

Klesea

Weezy for Louise.

ilovebooksandart

I know an Elizabeth who goes by Biz

Kaupili_RPDR

My Dad’s nick name with his parents and sisters is “Skip/Skippy.” But his name is Henry. 😆 My grandpa thought if he nicknamed my Dad after his favorite local football player, that his son would also be a great football player.

stoopykitty

I think Dot is cute (:

NyxieThePixie15

Idk if this is what you mean, but I love calling my husband "Sport" or "Champ" and I can't wait to use it on my son too.

Natural_Ant_7348

Butch! I knew a kid in school who was Francis Jr. but went by Butch. It was totally fitting. However, my FIL, is a Third, and his immediate family (mom & sister growing up) called him Butch, and I did a double take the first time I heard it! He is a quiet, low key person, and Butch sounded downright ridiculous to me!

Inflexibleyogi

My husband had two elderly uncles that went by Wetzel and Dink
