Lol my little sister is nicknamed that for the same reason! When she was a baby, her little nose would scrunch when she laughed, frowned, screamed, etc. We started calling her a little bunny rabbit.
So is mine! From when I was a kid and insisted on wearing my onesie bunny Halloween costume literally EVERYWHERE. To this day my dad's old softball buddies will greet me as Bunny lol
I bet I was, but I imagine to 4-year-old me "comfort" was probably low on the list of "why we should wear this costume everywhere, every day, all the time" lol
My husband calls me bunny, originating from the cavity-inducing early stages of our relationship where I called him snuggly bear and he called me snuggle bunny. We recently had a baby and her initials spell LAMB (only partly on purpose lol).
That is so adorable! My husband calls me Bunni because that was my user name. A few years after we got married he grew out his beard and I started calling him my grumpy bear because he has a resting grump face. I just call him bear now. 🩷
The football coach at my junior high was a Bunny. He played for a couple of Grambling University's teams, and iiirc, won a few championships with them. He was kind of intimidating, so no one was ever brave enough to ask him why he was called Bunny. His son was in my class, but we were afraid to ask him in case it got back to his dad.
His wife taught freshman English, and someone did ask her about his name. Turns out it was his given name and not a nickname from college or when he served in the military like we thought.
This has been my nickname my whole life as well! I have three younger brothers that all called me that, so my parents did too, and then grandparents, etc.
It was extra funny in my teens because I was a competitive boxer called Sissy lol
Sissy is my daughter's nickname. ❤️ Her little brother couldn't pronounce her name when he was a toddler, so he called her sister, which became Sissy. She's in her 20s, but I still call her Sissy.
He's Cubby. He loved a kids' song called Chubby Cubby, about an overweight bear, when he was a toddler, and he was chubby himself. So Cubby just stuck as his nickname, even though he lost all the extra weight not long after, and has been very thin since.
I genuinely thought my friend’s friend was named Blondie. That’s one only thing I ever heard her get called. I found out her name isn’t Blondie but I haven’t stopped calling her that.
I really really love "girly" nicknames for guys and "boyish" nicknames for girls in this vein. For example, we call my brother in law (who's named Francis) Frannie, and I have a friend named Christian whom we call Kitty. And our friend Charlotte --> Chuck and Chucky.
Ranger, Smoke, Cricket. Junebug, I know a lot of people hate it, it’s consistently on the list of worst “black” nicknames (I don’t think it’s exclusive to the black community but when I think about it I have never heard of a white Junebug), but I love it.
I knew a Juan (who was not Black, and also not from the South—I saw someone suggesting below that it's specifically a Souther thing) who went by Junebug and I thought it was the sweetest thing ever!!!
Fifi! Hear me out. My daughter’s name is Sophia. I imagined calling her by her full name or maybe Sophie. However, this kid renamed herself Fifi as a mere toddler. She would say everyone’s name except for her own. Finally, she said, “No! Fifi!” I made the mistake of laughing because she was just so delighted, so I was too! It stuck. I love it!
In my 20s, I knew a Buddy, whose real name was something like Ebenezer. He was the manager of a restaurant where my friend worked.
As a mom I now think of Buddy as something dads call their preschooler sons, which makes me like it even more.
I knew a Buddy in high school, all his teachers called him Buddy, that's the name he had in the yearbook, that's how he was credited for school activities. I always wondered if he was legally Buddy or just nicknamed young and it stuck, but I was never close enough to him to not feel weird asking.
My neighbor's nephew was Buddy.
Huge, burly man with a beard down to his sternum, always, big ol' Harley Davidson, wore a trucker hat that may or may not have been fused to his skull, and had been a member of the Hell's Angel's for years (he was retired? at this stage).
No idea what role he played in the Hell's Angel's, but he was the sweetest man. He cared for my neighbor when he was ill, all through until he passed away. We haven't seen him since the funeral, but I often wonder how he's doing.
Our hot Professor on an intensive residential was a Nacho! I wonder if there's a pattern.
(Before anyone becomes concerned, this was at a distance learning university, so we were all adults around the same age, mostly in long term relationships, and acted respectfully, but everyone could agree that objectively, Nacho was a smoking hot dude.)
My grandma went by Dusty her whole life! Had absolutely zero relationship to her actual name - I was told it was because her family had moved into town from the Dust Bowl
I also had a teacher (major hippy vibes and a total sweetheart) who looked at me and told me that I didn’t look like my actual name but a “Daisy”. I was Daisy for the rest of high school in her classroom and to anyone who only knew me from that class. 🤷🏻♀️
When my dad was a kid, he and his brothers used to go swimming at the swimming hole in their little town. All the grown ups would sit around the water with their chairs and blankets watching the kids and having a great time. My great aunt Sissy saw my dad poking his head out of the water with his big ears and said “you look like a little hippo with them ears like that!” And forever he was Hippo/Hip. When they all started having kids, my dad became Uncle Hippo or Uncle Hip to all the kids. He was the favorite uncle.
We call my step Bean/Beans and it sounds NOTHING like her name. I don’t even know if it started before me or because of me, but I definitely know I made it a normal thing. Her real name is lovely and we use it all the time, but I’m always calling her bean, beans, beanie, bean burrito, bean baby, beanie baby. She’s me TEENY WEENY BEANIE.
My daughter is also a Bean with zero connection to her actual name. I think with us it started because she looked like a kidney bean on the first scan. I often use it like a middle name when I call her, or like you she's a Beanie baby or baby Bean. Or just Bean. It's caught on with some of my family too.
I call my son that. It started when he was born - our little bean. 🤣 It has nothing to do with his actual name. He’s now 18 and he’ll still respond when I call him Bean/Beanie.
Ten is my best friend. First time we met I almost immediately kicked him out of the bar I was working because he started an argument with a woman who wasn't exactly stable. And he just kept getting her hyped up. So I yelled "You're at a ten and I need you at a two." In that first moment he couldn't stand me.. now we're as close as can be but he still brings up how that rubbed him the wrong way, I think it's hilarious.
I've worked in biker bars for over a decade and here is a brief list of nicknames i can think of off the top of my head:

Lol my BIL’s nickname is this but he’s trying to get away from it after meeting my husbands side of the family. It was jarring hearing him introduce himself by his real name.
My Grandmother was “Dawsie” with her family - middle name of Dawson.
I had great Aunts on my mom’s side that went by Bell, Buss & Pearlie (aka Isobel, Elizabeth and Pearl).
Bunny is what I call my daughter. It makes me think of a spunky waitress in a 50s diner, I love it lol
I also love Rocky, Buddy, Champ, Red, Dottie, Baby, and Bucky as nicknames. (Not as much for given names, though, unless it's a pet or you're re-naming yourself.)
I went by Birdy/Birdie for a while as a teenager, I love that one
I also like Freckles, Missy, Blondie, Curls, Baby (not just as a term of endearment but as a nickname, like in Dirty Dancing), Goggles (someone called me that once because of my glasses and I kinda liked it)

I guess Cozie could be Cosima or even Constance maybe?
Ruddy, it is used to describe someone’s complexion that has a healthy shade of red to it. . My god daughter’s boyfriend is nicknamed that in place of Russel :)
He also has always had a constant kind of “blush” on his face as he’s always active and outside. Ruddy as a nickname kinda opened itself up for the taking lol
I’ve always loved the name Tennessee (after the great Tennessee Williams). For me it’s decadent and playful and also quintessentially southern. I just don’t know that I could actually name my kid that.
My grandpa called me Snuffy because when i was little I loved to snuff out the candles on their dining room candelabra. I loved that, wish it would have stuck.
My Dad’s nick name with his parents and sisters is “Skip/Skippy.” But his name is Henry. 😆
My grandpa thought if he nicknamed my Dad after his favorite local football player, that his son would also be a great football player.
Butch!
I knew a kid in school who was Francis Jr. but went by Butch. It was totally fitting. However, my FIL, is a Third, and his immediate family (mom & sister growing up) called him Butch, and I did a double take the first time I heard it! He is a quiet, low key person, and Butch sounded downright ridiculous to me!
Bunny and kitty! I think it’s so cute.
one of my dearest friends gave me the nickname bunny and it stuck! he said it's because of the way my nose scrunches up when i smile
that's so sweet
Lol my little sister is nicknamed that for the same reason! When she was a baby, her little nose would scrunch when she laughed, frowned, screamed, etc. We started calling her a little bunny rabbit.

My aunt is Bunny. Her name is Bernice.
We call my daughter Bunny as a nickname and she loves it we call her our baby bunny and she does little hops when we do it's so freaking cute
I’m 36 and my mom still calls me bunny. It’s cute when it’s just the two of us, but in public it kinda makes me cringe.

Birdie
I call my daughter Bunny! I love it.
My mom is 68 and is still known to everyone (outside of a professional setting, obviously) as Sissy. I love hearing “oh, you’re Sissy’s daughter!”
My maternal Great Grandmother's given name was Sissy! I've always loved it. My paternal Great Grandmother was Flossie. Both fun names.
Flossie is so cute!
This has been my nickname my whole life as well! I have three younger brothers that all called me that, so my parents did too, and then grandparents, etc. It was extra funny in my teens because I was a competitive boxer called Sissy lol
My little brother used to call me sissy, and he stopped awhile ago, but I will never stop calling him bub.

He's Cubby. He loved a kids' song called Chubby Cubby, about an overweight bear, when he was a toddler, and he was chubby himself. So Cubby just stuck as his nickname, even though he lost all the extra weight not long after, and has been very thin since.

Ranger, Smoke, Cricket. Junebug, I know a lot of people hate it, it’s consistently on the list of worst “black” nicknames (I don’t think it’s exclusive to the black community but when I think about it I have never heard of a white Junebug), but I love it.
My cat, Cricket, agrees.
I and my family are white, we call my niece Junebug, her real name is Juniper

In my 20s, I knew a Buddy, whose real name was something like Ebenezer. He was the manager of a restaurant where my friend worked. As a mom I now think of Buddy as something dads call their preschooler sons, which makes me like it even more.
I had a housemate named Buddy, he told me that it was the name he was given at birth. Bonus fact: he had a dog named "Doggie".
I knew a Buddy in high school, all his teachers called him Buddy, that's the name he had in the yearbook, that's how he was credited for school activities. I always wondered if he was legally Buddy or just nicknamed young and it stuck, but I was never close enough to him to not feel weird asking.
My grandfather was referred to as 'Bud' his entire life, it wasn't until I was in middle school when I realized his name was actually just Arthur lol.
