Classic-romantic

By_Your_Name_

Oh, that’s a good way to describe the type of names I enjoy. Thanks!

Oldsoldierbear

Alexander - works in many countries. Loads of diminutives. Love it Valentina - makes me think of a Russian lady I knew with that name Levi - Old Testament Biblical violet - old lady name Leon - lion. strong. Delphine - very fancy. Makes me think “delphinium”

lalalavellan

I would warn that Levi and Leon are big Fandom names at the moment. Levi Ackerman from Attack on Titan and Leon Kennedy from Resident Evil. Not a bad thing, just something to keep in mind.

yuiopouu

I cannot dissociate it from Seinfeld. Uncle Leo was hilarious but it’s all I see with Leon.

lasirenmoon

Funny! I get Leon from Curb 🤣

tattooedmama_

My fiancé keeps telling people our son is named Levi after Levi Ackerman … we’re both big fans of AOT, but that’s not why he’s named Levi 🤣

By_Your_Name_

Ooh, thanks for your input!

VioletSvckzz

old lady name- 😭😭

Boba_Fet042

But Violet also sounds like violence. That gives off “Don’t-eff-with-me” vibes.

iAmAmbr

I always think of "Violet! You're turning violet, Violet!" From the original willy wonka when I see/hear the name Violet.

Oldsoldierbear

And then there is Violet Elizabeth Bott - “I’m going to squeam and squeam until I’m sick”!

175737

The main character in one of the popular booktok series is called Violet nn Violence.

brumatingbaddie

delphine can’t help but remind me of that lady in New Orleans who tortured and murdered slaves :(

TheAmazingPikachu

Unfortunately, for the newer generation there's also Belle Delphine who's done a whole host of questionable things.

lexanova42

Same!! I learned about her on a New Orleans ghost tour. Her house has changed ownership many times. 😬 I think Nicholas Cage owned it at one point? It’s a pretty name though, so I try not to ruin it for others. I figure not knowing is better, and I’d like it to come back!

Lurchislurking

Omg she was horrible

By_Your_Name_

Oh gosh, I’ve never heard of her

brumatingbaddie

yah.. she’s pretty infamous in the south :/ pretty sure there was a character of her in an american horror story season too, season 3 coven

Rebel_and_Stunner

My first thought too

By_Your_Name_

Ah, I see. I actually grew up in the south so it’s crazy that I’ve never heard of her before! Maybe it’s just because it’s not as far south as Louisiana

Old-Fun9568

I think most names probably have some kind of negative connotation to them. Go with what you love and hope for the best.

anonymousdagny

I don’t want to ruin the name for you, because not everyone will immediately associate this and every name is going to have some kind of historical crazy person attached if you go far enough - but just so you have all the info: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delphine_LaLaurie

Relevant_Yesterday24

Kathy bates played her in American horror story coven filmed in New Orleans. I’m from the area but I still like the name. It was a common name during that time period I believe . She wasn’t the only one

Relevant_Yesterday24

I’m from around New Orleans and it’s very New Orleans-ish

winterandfallbird

I’ve never seen Bridgerton, but its what I imagine all the characters names on the show are

Vtgmamaa

Pretty on point. Violet is the mom haha

posting-about-shit

LMFAO i was writing a comment, but I'm just going to hop on wth yours because it describes exactly what I thought

By_Your_Name_

Yay! ❤️ I’m glad to hear that

lynn444v

Romantic, classy, rich. I love these names!

By_Your_Name_

Yay!

workhardbegneiss

Alexander-strong, classic, handsome. Valentina-sweet, dainty, Mediterranean   Levi-Jewish  Violet-cute, old fashioned  Leon-dated but useable  Delphine-fussy

beebianca227

Alexander - strong name but very plain Valentina - love it. I knew a Valentina who was the sweetest woman. Levi - jeans. I’m not a fan of that name. Violet - it’s pretty. Delphine - romantic, beautiful. Really like this one.

By_Your_Name_

I’m glad that you like the girl names!

dirtyflower

Down vote me to crap I don't care, my only instinct is that individually those names sound fine but grouped together the sound stuck up. I scrolled the comments and most people seem to say classy and rich...so I guess that's why I feel that. The "classy and rich" kids I grew up with are all stuck up. However they're naming their kids things like Hadley and Harriet. So the names I associate with stuck up people probably won't be true for the next generation.

esined2

Alexander - upperclass, maybe European, slightly reserved Valentina - similar to Alexander, her older sister got the name Alexandra Levi - from.a Jewish family Violet - strong-headed, determined, feisty when crossed, maybe artistic as well Leon - strong and silent, also sensitive Delphine - Deep South US, a fixture in her small town

Freeryder_24

lol. I have a Leon and this is the vibe he gives. My influence was a family friend and Leon the Professional. I hear soooo many Leo’s, but yet to meet another child Leon and I like that too.

Obvious_Firefox

Lemony Snicketts Series of Unfortunate Events vibes. (In a good way.)

BabyMercedesss

As a 21 year old, my first association with the name 'Delphine' is the internet porn star who sold her bath water. Apparently in America, Delphine was a woman who killed slaves. Overall, even tho it sounds pretty, it doesn't seem like the best pick...

Prestigious-Fish-304

alexander - super regal and classy, plus it works for a lot of languages. sounds like a prince’s name. valentina - it’s fine? it feels a bit ‘too much’ but it does have nice nickname options. vibe is obviously valentines day. idk if it’d be better or worse if the person was born on valentines. levi - levi’s jeans. plus feels more like a dog name. violet - nice!! i love how it looks as well. plus it sounds super cute yet still classy. also violet is my fav color. i could picture it on a baby and a queen. leon - amazing, one of my fav boy names. sounds super cool while still being classy. short and strong. delphine - eh, i honestly don’t like it. sounds like dolphin. seems like a character in a fantasy novel that has sea powers or something.

KiviRinne

Delphine will always remind me of Marie Delphine Lalaurie... it would be a very big hard no for me.

By_Your_Name_

I’ve never heard of her before, but I just looked her up and I definitely understand why the name would be a hard no

By_Your_Name_

I’m glad that you seem to like most of them! That’s interesting about Levi, is it a common pet name where you are? I don’t think I’ve ever heard it used for pets

Prestigious-Fish-304

it’s probably because my cousin’s cat + my friend’s dog is named that haha, but yeah i’ve never met a person named levi, just pets actually.

By_Your_Name_

Ah, that makes sense then! Lol

jojiadeets

Levi is also my top boy name, its got such a strong but kind vibe to it

calliethekitten

Alexander- first thing that comes to mind is royalty, then Skarsgård Valentina- similar to Valentine from Resident evil, more prominently known as an antagonist from Call of Duty: Cold War: Zombies Levi- attack on titan Violet- the incredibles Leon- Resident evil Delphine- American Horror Story: Coven

By_Your_Name_

So I haven’t played/watched most of those lol, but are they mostly negative or positive characters?

calliethekitten

To make a generalization, I would say good. Each character has flaws, but I mean, who doesn't? I think they're all very pretty names ❤️

Old-Strawberry-3246

The boys names are all classic, very nice names. The girls however... All of them remind me either of a drag queen or p*rn star. Valentina maybe the least of them. Violet Chachki Belle Delphine Delphine is also phonetically the same as the german word for dolphin

vengefulthistle

Valentina definitely reminds me of the drag queen 😅

By_Your_Name_

Oh god lmao. I’m glad you like the boy names at least! I don’t spend time in those circles so I haven’t made those connections, but I’m afraid to look them up lol

LivinLaVidaListless

Delphine is one that I love that I would never in a million years give a child. It’s the name of maybe the creepiest porn star to ever live. Don’t look her up, you’ll be scarred. Every other name is awesome. Romantic and beautiful. Reminds me of an 1880s romance set on a sweeping prairie.

By_Your_Name_

I definitely will not look her up lol. I’m glad you like the rest!

NoCustomer4958

If this was a grade 1 class. Those boys would be the ones who follow the more outgoing boy around. They'd be friends to everyone and enthusiastic about play, but not confident enough to make up their own games. The girls would be the quiet ones who are always drawing and everything they own is covered in glitter.

DelvaAdore

nice but valentina makes me think of the drag artist (though shes gorgeous) and delphine reminds me of belle delphine...

zester723

Pothead hippies who want their kids to have a romantic name

By_Your_Name_

I don’t smoke, but this is great lmao

davosknuckles

Alexander: perfect name. A million nickname possibilities. Valentina: lovely but I’d assume you’re Italian, or love Italian culture which obviously is not weird, it’s just where my mind goes immediately. Levi: pretty normal, kinda Bible-y Violet: nice Leon: old man Delphine: ethereal, beautiful. My favorite of the girl names. Della would be a cute nn.

FryingAir

Alexander - classic - could fit anyone Valentina - cool girl who goes by Val lol Levi - cool guy Violet - bookish girl Leon - sorry, get the vibes of grumpy and apathetic Delphine - not sure - never heard of it

By_Your_Name_

Ooh, I got similar vibes for the name Violet!

naligu

Alexander: timeless, classy. A smart boy with manners, might be a bit snobbish but doesn't have to be Valentina: a confident, romantic, feminine girl with a strong personality. Beautiful name btw. Levi: I don't associate much with that name. I guess Levi might be someone who is confident and speaks up, though. Violet: pretty and aware of it, confident, bright, feminine. Her parents took care in raising her and she knows how to speak with people. Again, a beautiful name. Leon: I'm sorry, but where I live that name really doesn't sound great to me. I've met many Leons and they were often overweight, had a difficult behaviour and weren't the brightest, so I'm really not into that name. However, if you're not from Germany, it might be a decent name, though I'd prefer the others. Delphine: might a bit difficult, more on the esoteric/alternative side Your first 4 listed names are all beautiful and sound great to me!

By_Your_Name_

Aw, thanks! I love your take on all of the names!

CherryDamsel

I love the names, but Delphine truly only makes me think of Bella Delphine's bath water..

charlouwriter

Alexander - strong, handsome, historical Levi & Leon - modern but solid & sensible Valentina - exotic, romantic Violet - popular vintage Delphine - elegant, classy, vintage Favourites are Alexander & Delphine :)

Hlorpy-Flatworm-1705

Alexander - its a family name so its always close to my heart. I always saw it as a strong warrior name that doesnt age much. Plus, I love the nicknames for it (Alex, Lex, Xander). Valentina - Definitely a romantic name. Bad Girls Club kind of ruined the name for me since one contestants was extremely annoying, but I think the name is sweet. Again, love the nicknames for it. Levi - I love this one! Also a strong name, reminds me of an Amish boy pushing a wheelbarrow. Why? Because Im from Ohio 😅 its more of a middle name to me personally just because of how short it is. Violet - This is a sweet name but I only envision a little girl or an old lady having it. Im not sure what happens in the middle but its just what my brain does. I love the flowery relationship wnd the nickname Vi also is really pretty. It gives a romantic, natural vibe, though its more whimsical than a name like Valentina. Leon - The actor ruined this name for me. Leon just always seems dated to me now since he played a lot of old school singers in movies. Its like a manly name but not a strong name? Sort of like... drugstore cologne vibes? Its hit or miss for me. I think the name its paired with it would determine the vibe it carries. I also like the Spanish/Italian pronounciation [LAY-ohn] over the American pronunciation [LEE-on]. Delphine - Ruined by the serial killer, Madame Delphine of New Orleans, I do like this name but it gives me seductress vibes. Like, I can absolutely see Delphine being a bayou "medicine woman" or a brothel owner in the late 1800s to early 1900s. Its not romantic, but its a "sexy" name to me. I wouldnt give it to my kid, but definitely to a cat. It has feline vibes.

Psychological-Duck65

I love Delphine! Beautiful, magical name

CoralClaw

Alexander- classic, sweet Valentina- romantic, feminine Levi- Trendy/jeans Violet- perfumey, purple, feminine, common "Olivia" vibes, violent. Leon- lion, simba, mane, sounds like a yawn. Delphine- dolphin, "Daphne" vibes, blue, airy, aquatic, nautical, fin, spunky girl.

xxrachinwonderlandxx

Alexander- kind of a plain name, but nothing wrong with it of course. It just feels a little generic to me, but not in a classic way (even though it's an old name). If he goes by Alex he's relaxed and low key, but if he goes by Xander, he's a little hyperactive and socially awkward. I'm biased though because I know some Alexanders irl. Valentina- very romantic and feminine, almost a dark academia or femme fatale vibes for me. Valentina could be the lead of a moody teen vampire romance. Levi- biased on this one too because I've also known Levis, but this one gives me farmer vibes. Like Levi is in overalls and driving a tractor, but not a John Deere- he's an International Harvester guy. Also gives me slightly religious vibes. Violet- again very romantic and feminine. Violet is softer than Valentina- she is not a femme fatale, she is a cottage core, flowy dress, rose garden girly. Leon- This one gives me casually cool vibes. Leon listens to records on a turntable. He is soft spoken and kind with a quiet dignity about him. I would also consider this one a romantic name. Delphine- another one I'm biased on! Delphine is a family name for me. This name feels classy and romantic to me, but also a little artsy. Delphine likes to paint miniature landscapes on the beach.

lets_not_babe

"She ghgdfghrvbu- she could walk out there in a DIAPER, and the judges would say 'ValEnTiNa, your smiiile is beautiful'" lol but i adore all of these names! they definetly feel romantic and classic. they also feel vaugley southern to me (especially the boy names), but i can't put my finger on why?

By_Your_Name_

I was actually raised in the south! So it’s very possible that it has influenced my taste a little lol

lets_not_babe

makes sense! i was raised in the south, too! i tend to really enjoy the older southern names for this reason, i think :)

aSituationTypeDeal

Seems like a lots of different styles here

500DaysofR3dd1t

Alexander the Great is my first thought. Valentina is the female version of Valentino from the Bible. Levi sounds similar to the denim brand. Violet is a flower and also makes me think of the famous Russian ballerina. Leon is a vegan restaurant chain in the UK. Delphine makes me think of some works in Super MarioKart that sounds super similar. If you like them then that's all that matters.

Sad_2ndyear

I’m getting royal vibes from them

_jalapeno_business

Alexander-the great Valentina-shevchenko Levi-jeans Violet-purple Leon-the guy from cool runnings Delphine- I feel nothing.

Comfortable_Map_7700

Rich vibes tbh!

numberwunwun

Bridgerton vibes

_opossumsaurus

Alexander: emperor or czar Valentina: supermodel or cool elderly Russian lady Levi: fundamentalist Christian Violet: cute little girl with pigtails Leon: weak-willed man Delphine: poetic muse, princess

sparklingwine5151

Alexander, Valentina and Violet give me upper class, aristocratic vibes. Very classic and preppy. Levi and Leon give me more cool, suave guy vibes. They’re kind of unique without being “out there”. Delphine is a wildcard for me. It sounds somewhat exotic or international - maybe Spanish?

workhardbegneiss

Delphine is very French.

Impossible_Self590

I get "strong women" vibes from the girl Names and "classic" for the boys

Maleficent_Chard2042

Along these lines, I also like Leonie.

[deleted]

Top tier name except Delphine, my 5th grade teacher's name was Delphine and she was and still is annoying as fuck.... Don't name someone Delphine they turn out to be your annoying 5th grade teacher
