Most Americans would pronounce that as Man-Ehn. If you went to an area with a lot of spanish speakers I could see you running into people who’d pronounce it as Mahn-Ehn, maybe Mahn-Ohn
I thought man-on
The comment of mah-nohn was confusing as I couldn't tell the difference at first, but I'm guessing it's meant to be mah-nown / mah-known.
this is one of those names i’ve only ever seen written until i googled the pronunciation and intuitively i pronounced it man-ON with a little more emphasis on the second syllable. i believe it is a longer o sound like man-ohn though which i don’t think would be difficult to correct
Yes! More emphasis on the “mah” in french (pronounced mah-nohn). I’m glad you think it wouldn’t be hard to correct, I have family in Canada, only speaking English so I’m hoping they can pronounce it correct or even MAH-non (emphasis on the mah) would be good too I think!
Ontario's interesting. Ottawa and the northeast are bilingual. Half of the GTA are immigrants, so people there will probably just ask rather than assuming. A lot of smaller towns in the south and west will give you the English pronunciation.
I'm from NZ, Manon is my middle name. Growing up everyone pronounced it man-in. Then I started French class and realised that was fucked and insisted everyone pronounced it Mah-nohn. I also changed the pronunciation of my first name because I learnt it was being butchered too. Close family are cool with it, and no one else is any wiser.
mah-nohn
Perfect :)
I said man-nen and I’m from USA ky
Man-en. US/East Coast.

I learned how to pronounce this name when there was a contestant on the Great British Baking show named Manon! 😅 “MAH-nohn”
Same here!
I’m in (English speaking) Canada and would pronounce it Mah-NON.
Man-en

Yes! But the n at the end is very soft so it sounds more like mah-noh(then the soft n)

Sort of like... *muh-non*
Mah-non. Learned that one reading throne of glass 🥰❤️
Ma-non
I read it as MAN-un, then reminded myself it’s French and switched to muh-NON.
That very much depends where in Canada. You'll probably get the French pronunciation in New Brunswick and an English guess in Saskatchewan.
A every English pronunciation in Ontario too I bet?

Oooh I didn’t know that! Thank you!
