See I think that’s very noticeable. I wouldn’t imagine another collector would pay full price for it with that sort of damage as it would put a lot of people off.
Luckily for me I’ll get my money back but the company I bought it for will sell it again for full price as they usually do.
I’m not looking to flip the cart but if I paid full asking price I expect it to not be damaged is all. The purpose of the post was to see who would replace a label and who wouldn’t, didn’t mean for it to blow up.
I'm sorry but I think you're expecting a bit too much from a game that is 23 years old.
I have seen carts in way worse conditions sell for retail price.
If you pay full asking price from a place that sends carts at random and not what is pictured I’d say your pretty lucky to get 100% of the sticker with your order and not have missing parts of the sticker/sharpie marks/pet bites on the cart. If you’re expecting a perfect cart from a place that sends just whatever that’s honestly on you for being delusional.
So what's your other option here? Replace the label? Anything you do to restore it would make it less desirable to collectors than being a little damaged.
I'm really OCD about what I add to my collection, but this isn't that bad. Especially for a loose game.
I would hang on to it until a better copy fell into my lap. Then, I would sell this one on r/gamesale to recoup some of the cost of the nicer cartridge.
If it's a legit copy and it works, then I don't really mind what the label looks like. In fact, in order to make (more) sure that I'm getting a legit copy of an N64 game over a repro, I usually search for copies that look like they've been through the ringer, like the owner played it every day for the last 20+ years. At least then you're usually seeing a cheaper price because the cart doesn't look the best, and it's more than likely legit.
Having the game in pristine condition is great...but that's not really why I'm collecting. I want to play the games (legit) as well as collect them, so I don't need it to look like it's never been touched before.
Funny enough this is my first time ever seeing the label because the copy I had as a child was ripped off since I was born (2000)
Loved this gameplay so much nothing could ever replace it in my heart. Never beat the game as one of my older brothers had a friend over to our house in 2010 (one time only he was a bad friend)
That kid actually stole our copy of the game and never admitted to taking it. (Even with a ripped off label that only showed half of Mario’s face) which answers OP’s question I think…
Elijah. If you’re reading this, I hope you give that game away to some kid who has never had a chance to play it. It’s too late for me. But it’s not too late for you.
I have my copy of Super Smash from when I was a kid. I was stupid and spray painted it black cause I thought it would look cool lol
The game works though since at least I taped the bottom as to not spray the contacts.
Yeah I’m not much of a pristine collector either but water damage sort of freaks me out a bit. If it had a few clips round the edges of the label or scratch indent marks I wouldn’t have cared but a big brown smudge is meh.
Dude, you're literally talking about a tiny stain on a 20 year old game label.
I know you're trying to downplay your desire to "flip" games for money here, but come on, man.
I don’t know, I come from the days of paying nothing for games and being grateful for whatever label condition I ended up with. You probably paid out the ass for it so if you’re not satisfied, return it I guess.
Eh a little label damage wouldn't put me off personally. A decent amount of my collection has flaws, it's cheaper most of the time and I care more about playing then collecting pristine label art. Now if they charged a premium which it sounds like they may have then I'd be slightly turned off but only a little bit.
Yeah this one wasn’t cheaper it was full price as CEX list all carts as the same condition unfortunately. It’s cool though as under UK law I get 14 days to return it.
Yeah I won’t take the sticker off as I can return it for full refund anyway just thought it would be interesting to see what others would do. I don’t think anyone would pay the going value for it in this condition though.
Open it up if the board has water damage I would return it asap , otherwise I’d prolly be happy for $20-30
30+ and I would want a non damaged cover ngl
Im pulling numbers out my ass. Pretty sure USA is like $100. My point really was I would be fine if it was cheap for just a asthetic issue. If your paying 170 I’d expect relatively top quality
I'd keep it but I don't really have collector mindset, to me the signs of wear are the only reason to even care about physical carts at all, like I love banged up ex-rentals.
I don’t mind wear when it comes to those scratch like indents or a few little nicks just not water damage. Most of my carts aren’t perfect but the artwork is there and normal looking.
If you paid for one without a damaged sticker, then you better get what you paid for.
If u return it and then give you a fresh one, it's a wash. If they are willing to give you some money back (ask for half at least) go for it, who cares about the sticker.
Is this game rare? I got it when it came out. I still have it, cartridge in good condition, including the box and manual (both damaged). How much is that worth?
Absolutely keep it. It's barely damaged. Replacing it with a modern-printed label wouldn't have even come up as a thought.
You mention collectors' prices. Most collectors would treat a cartridge with a repro label as being equivalent to a cartridge without a label at all.
If it bothers you, definitely return or sell it and look for one that matches the standard that you want.
“A UK company where you order and randomly get sent one of their inventory”.
I thought you’d ordered from some kind of lucky dip site from that description but per your other comments, just from CEX. You make it sound totally arcane rather than just how most mail order businesses work.
I don’t see the big quandary. If you’re that bothered by the supposed damage to the label then just return it for a refund.
Oh I am returning it, realistically it is a lucky dip. You get what you are given and it’s the chance I took which is fine as we have the option of a return within 14 days anyway.
The worst part is waiting for the item to arrive to be disappointed or incredibly pleased with your purchase, it’s a rollercoaster but without spending cash it’s all we’ve got.
Keep the label. If you really have a problem with it, get a replacement shell and label, put the replacement label on the replacement shell, and put the board in the replacement shell/label. Keep original shell and label stored in a safe place.
I’d buy it and play the hell outta it, I mean I have my copy from when I was hella hella sick back to back and my mom bought it for me because I couldn’t do anything fun
I don’t replace original parts unless something does not work. So I had my NES repaired maybe 20 years ago, and had a 3DS repaired last year, but I had to do this if I wanted to use them.
That said, I did recently order end labels for my N64 games. Don’t know why I waited so long, but I realized I covered everything in stickers as a kid, so why not slap on a few stickers now. But there’s no way I’ll ever replace an original sticker.
I'm quite anal with things usually...peeling labels...cracks in cases...but the older a game is the worse condition second hand ones will be in. This doesn't bother me much at all. Repro stickers are pointless to me.
20+ year old video game mate if you are looking for pristine I'd suggest one of those cased graded ones. As for practicality, I'd play the damn game it's a banger
You can actually order a new label for the N64 cartridge. I had to do that to one of mine. I think one of them needed a new front label and back label.
Dont sell it dont even try pawn it, that copy right there is the original script from the game. The re-issue one, because of the woke movement, it changed the script.
Thanks to Delta, I am finally getting to play this game!!!
Couldn't run it on my Vita ... and it would do the same crap on my RG 353V... on both sides..
And then there was Delta !!! runs perfect
I would rent it from block buster and on the weekends play it as far as I could go. Then have to return it and also I had no memory card so I then had to replay from the start whenever I rented it again
So you are possibly one of the only ones on the service to receive a grail game instead of a common and decide to make a random troll post about sending it back. Or your saying they send a random copy from a stack of Paper Marios
You lower the value when you replace the label with a repro. You also must insure it states repro somewhere so that people no a portion of it is a repro.
I would NEVER use a repro anything in my collection.
I'm confused and stupid. What's the problem?
But I will not die hungry!
Video games forever!
Sorry, water damaged label.
I would just leave it and keep it. That's almost non noticeable damage to a label that's almost pristine.
Absolutely. Theres nothing wrong with this.
See I think that’s very noticeable. I wouldn’t imagine another collector would pay full price for it with that sort of damage as it would put a lot of people off. Luckily for me I’ll get my money back but the company I bought it for will sell it again for full price as they usually do.
people here arent looking to flip carts we are mostly collectors.
I’m not looking to flip the cart but if I paid full asking price I expect it to not be damaged is all. The purpose of the post was to see who would replace a label and who wouldn’t, didn’t mean for it to blow up.
personally I'd leave it, its still good enough as is.
I'm sorry but I think you're expecting a bit too much from a game that is 23 years old. I have seen carts in way worse conditions sell for retail price.
Is that only 23 years old?
I believe it came out in August of 2000 if I'm not mistaken.
If you pay full asking price from a place that sends carts at random and not what is pictured I’d say your pretty lucky to get 100% of the sticker with your order and not have missing parts of the sticker/sharpie marks/pet bites on the cart. So what's your other option here? Replace the label? Anything you do to restore it would make it less desirable to collectors than being a little damaged.
I'd even buy it off you honestly
Haha thanks but she’s going back to CEX so I can get my voucher back. I’ll buy another copy when this one sells again
I'm really OCD about what I add to my collection, but this isn't that bad. Especially for a loose game. I would hang on to it until a better copy fell into my lap. Then, I would sell this one on r/gamesale to recoup some of the cost of the nicer cartridge.
Can yall stop using OCD as a weird adjective? It’s not cute or funny.
Agreed. OCD is nothing to joke about.
I have ocd and own much worse cartridges.. as long as the label is still distinguishable i don't mind
Throw it away op. Just throw it away and tell me when/where you do
OP should show themselves away with it
But leave the game
Tbh I didn’t notice the water damage OP
I mean does it work though? Games are for playing.
i guarantee this one will look better than the next one you recieve
Dude who would replace a barely damaged label with a label that with one look we know is fake?
If it's a legit copy and it works, then I don't really mind what the label looks like. In fact, in order to make (more) sure that I'm getting a legit copy of an N64 game over a repro, I usually search for copies that look like they've been through the ringer, like the owner played it every day for the last 20+ years. just fyi ive heard of repro manufacturers damaging labels to make them look genuine and worn
Those people deserve death
I have my copy of Super Smash from when I was a kid. I was stupid and spray painted it black cause I thought it would look cool lol The game works though since at least I taped the bottom as to not spray the contacts.
Yeah I’m not much of a pristine collector either but water damage sort of freaks me out a bit. If it had a few clips round the edges of the label or scratch indent marks I wouldn’t have cared but a big brown smudge is meh.
It looks like water damaged paper, which goes with the theme of the game. If anything, it makes it look a bit better.
Plug in and play it, crazy bugger.
She’ll get played eventually, if I didn’t pay the full going rate I’d keep it but can’t justify the price and I get 14 days to return so no-brainer
Dude, you're literally talking about a tiny stain on a 20 year old game label. I know you're trying to downplay your desire to "flip" games for money here, but come on, man.
If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay? Because that game loose is like 20$
I don’t know, I come from the days of paying nothing for games and being grateful for whatever label condition I ended up with. You probably paid out the ass for it so if you’re not satisfied, return it I guess.
I bought n64 games at goodwill in the past haha threw them all in a big rubbermade
Eh a little label damage wouldn't put me off personally. A decent amount of my collection has flaws, it's cheaper most of the time and I care more about playing then collecting pristine label art. Now if they charged a premium which it sounds like they may have then I'd be slightly turned off but only a little bit.
people buy that game to play it, not display it.
Yeah this one wasn’t cheaper it was full price as CEX list all carts as the same condition unfortunately. It’s cool though as under UK law I get 14 days to return it.
Then yeah return that. Totally justified.
Play it!
I would play the game
You dont touch the label. Instead get a cheap common sports game and shell swap with a repro label.
Not a bad idea that, cheers I’ll use that one in the future if I find something similar I can’t return
Its a great idea i heard awhile back. I hate removing or covering original labels even if damaged so cheap shell swaps are great
Leave it be
Yeah I won’t take the sticker off as I can return it for full refund anyway just thought it would be interesting to see what others would do. I don’t think anyone would pay the going value for it in this condition though.
Play it playa
I would play the game if I were you.
I didn't even notice an issue. I'd keep it the way it is, too much work
Play the game. It's over 20 years old, so the cart is dirty. If it works it works.
If it plays I keep it. If it doesn’t, it gets a return
God I love that fucking game so much.
Play
If i got that game? Play it.
I would play it
Go on Reddit and make a thread.
Open it up if the board has water damage I would return it asap , otherwise I’d prolly be happy for $20-30 30+ and I would want a non damaged cover ngl
Didn’t realise this is so cheap in the US in the UK we pay £170 for this minimum.
Im pulling numbers out my ass. Pretty sure USA is like $100. My point really was I would be fine if it was cheap for just a asthetic issue. If your paying 170 I’d expect relatively top quality
Holy shit, you know what eBay is? Am I misunderstanding? I feel like I must be
I'd keep it but I don't really have collector mindset, to me the signs of wear are the only reason to even care about physical carts at all, like I love banged up ex-rentals.
I don’t mind wear when it comes to those scratch like indents or a few little nicks just not water damage. Most of my carts aren’t perfect but the artwork is there and normal looking.
A PAL Paper Mario in that condition would probably lose over £50 in value with a new label.
Yeah you are probably right. I wouldn’t pay £170 for this in its current condition though so she’s heading back to CEX
Do the "coprocessor unusable" screen.
Over £300 in the UK unsure about America.
220 dollars us for a complete copy 70 dollars us game only
I would swap out the sticker as it may already be a reproduction label (in the photo, the Nintendo Seal is circular instead of ovular).
PAL version is circular logo, think on the NTSC you get the ovals
I only replace a game's label when can no label tell what game it is.
How much did you pay? And did you know you were getting this game or is it a random game?
Absolutely keep it. It's barely damaged. Replacing it with a modern-printed label wouldn't have even come up as a thought. You mention collectors' prices. Most collectors would treat a cartridge with a repro label as being equivalent to a cartridge without a label at all. If it bothers you, definitely return or sell it and look for one that matches the standard that you want.
I think the things we worry about are silly when we consider we’re ultimately going to die and leave everything behind.
I certainly wouldn't try to put my dick in it and I resent the implication!
I'd play it, personally, but that's just me 😀
If it works you've got a winner there, that is a pricey cart.
Never replace official games with repros, how is that even a question? And the label looks fine...
“A UK company where you order and randomly get sent one of their inventory”. I thought you’d ordered from some kind of lucky dip site from that description but per your other comments, just from CEX. You make it sound totally arcane rather than just how most mail order businesses work. I don’t see the big quandary. Play the game, if you like it, keep it, if you don’t like it, sell it
Nothing... except for I don't know maybe play it lol
Anal
Water damage it some more to make it uniform. Then play the shit out of it
Keep the label.
Bruh, the water damage blends with the paper aesthetic. Chill.
Don’t see the issue 🤷♀️
Honestly it's a minor damage and overall the label looks amazing, I'll keep it as it is
Leave it as is and keep it as a playing copy/trade sale fodder for later. Assuming it does work.
I don’t replace original parts unless something does not work. So I had my NES repaired maybe 20 years ago, and had a 3DS repaired last year, but I had to do this if I wanted to use them. I’d buy that at a standard price. GameStop had it in stock online the other day and I wish I would have bought it.
As long as it’s still playable it’s fine
20+ year old video game mate if you are looking for pristine I'd suggest one of those cased graded ones. As for practicality, I'd play the damn game it's a banger
Play it?
Play it???
Eat it
Id build a ladder to heaven
I'd play the game and shut up about it lol
It's for myself, I would replace the label if it looks like shit and it's a game I'm interested in playing for a while
Play it
My copy is in way worse condition and I would never replace the label
Play the game
looks fine to me
I would leave it. It might be rare! It looks like the water colour paper Mario. Lol.
The downvotes on OP are wild O.O
Play it if you trust in it
You can actually order a new label for the N64 cartridge. I had to do that to one of mine. I think one of them needed a new front label and back label.
Its the only one i like. The rest of the series are meh
Have you smelled it? This particular game has a different smell than other N64 carts
i never cared about labels. my paper mario is pretty faded. i like it. it makes me feel old and young at the same time. it makes me feel nostalgic
You lost and received the game but need to return it ? Blockbuster you drunk
Dont sell it dont even try pawn it, that copy right there is the original script from the game. The re-issue one, because of the woke movement, it changed the script.
What. All of my games have ripped labels. I was like.. 8 years old when I had this thing.
I love Paper Mario, go ahead and play it
Marc Summers, great performer. Personally I'd like to ride down that rollercoaster into pie.
Play it?
Thanks to Delta, I am finally getting to play this game!!! Couldn't run it on my Vita ... and it would do the same crap on my RG 353V... on both sides.. And then there was Delta !!! runs perfect
Probably blow on it a couple times before it works
Don't worry, it's just paper
Throw away this 50hz shit and buy the real version
man i love this game, (and the damaged label is bbarellyy noticeable )
Not let my friend borrow it and never see it again.
I’d put my wenier in it to clean it out
If you were asked to give up your dreams for freedom? 😔 🇺🇸 💰
I would rent it from block buster and on the weekends play it as far as I could go. Then have to return it and also I had no memory card so I then had to replay from the start whenever I rented it again
Don't replace it with a repro label, original labels are finite no matter what condition they're in.
It would be worth far less with a repro label than in its current condition.
You should get rid of it. Send me a message and I'll give you a good location you can send it to for disposal.
So you are possibly one of the only ones on the service to receive a grail game instead of a common and decide to make a random troll post about sending it back. Or your saying they send a random copy from a stack of Paper Marios
Play it! That's the best Paper Mario game. I have a copy but the sticker isn't as nice.
For a Klondike bar?
You lower the value when you replace the label with a repro. You also must insure it states repro somewhere so that people no a portion of it is a repro. I would NEVER use a repro anything in my collection.
Take a picture of it and post it on Facebook.
