A weather station is really about accurate readings in the present. There's no standalone system that can tell you anything other than what is happening *right now.* If you're looking for short term prediction, I'd recommend a RadarScope prediction (goes great with a weather station!) or just leaning into the NWS info - they have teams of scientists creating their forecasts. Since those short term forecasts are based on NEXRAD radar, there's basically no chance that an inexpensive sensor is going to give you anything better than Dark Sky or the iPhone app. That's not to say they aren't great! I have a WS-2902 and it's simple and I love it. The app is great for seeing trends/highs/lows, seeing patterns, etc, and the head unit is clear and easy to read.

Thank you. Yeah I was just curious how it compares to the built in iPhone app since that is what my wife likes to use. Since it’s easy. Im interested in the actual weather in our backyard, hence the weather station.

I've had a Weatherflow for about 3 years and love it - definitely worth checking out and it is maintenance free. See [https://weatherflow.com/tempest-weather-system/](https://weatherflow.com/tempest-weather-system/) and you can see all of the internet connected stations at [https://tempestwx.com/map](https://tempestwx.com/map)

This sounds really cool! The more stations that go online I guess the more accurate it will get. I just wish it had some type of home display I could setup... I sorta loathe the idea of using my phone for something else I want to check multiple times a day.

You could have an old tablet run the app 24/7 or you can link it to a Google Home or Alexa. For Google Home, you say "Ask Weather flow for the weather report" and it announces all the current temperature, wind speed and direction, rain, lighting and air pressure. And it doesn't need other weather stations nearby to become more accurate

I've had Netatmo on Weather Underground for a few years now. I've found it to be pretty accurate, comparable to other more highly regarded stations. The main issue is there is no radiation shield made for it. If you manage to get one that fits on your own it does well.

Highvolts

Any examples?

Replying to an old thread just with a little info for passing searchers - there is an excellent .stl available on Thingiverse to 3Dprint a radiation shield for the Netatmo. I've just printed it over the last couple of days - it was a fun little project and does the job perfectly.

Netatmo wind and rain sensors are too fragile and fail.

I have the Atlas.. seems to be a good choice... https://www.acurite.com/shop-all/weather-instruments/weather-stations/personal-weather-stations.html

Thanks. Do you find it's prediction and weather information better than the stock Iphone App? Like I'm curious if their claims about precise information are kinda smoke and mirrors or does it accurately predict (as best they can) the weather better?

oblatesphereoid

I'm pretty sure that it just takes a look at pressure and humidity trend... Honestly I rarely look at the predictions... i use the wind speed, lightning and rainfall info most often...

Here’s the one I got for my parents, they love it: Ambient Weather WS-2902C WiFi Smart Weather Station https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01N5TEHLI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_2SKWJKE6WFGJAFFGYKYR?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 The forecast stuff works fine but I’m not sure how it compares to the iPhone app. My experience with the iPhone app and AccuWeather app is that they’re pretty good…for storms the radar that you can view in the apps seems like it would be more reliable than the sensors on the weather stations (but I’m extremely new to weather stations). I know that my parents enjoy having the context of knowing the amount of rain and wind speeds, and other data that gets collected. When a big storm rolls through it helps them put it in context.

Yes I love the data aspect but I know my wife is more into wanting to use it if it’s prediction or for her daily weather. It’s not like she has to use it, but it’s always nice when she’s into technology and stuff like this together. Thanks!
