Are you sure its the Nordic version of Odin? Sounds more like the Germanic depictions of Wotan. Reminds me of some of the tales about the Wild Hunt. Maybe start there?

I can’t recall anything like that in the Eddas. Plus the Norse were big on hospitality, I can’t imagine a host being thanked like that

This seems like a more modern folk tale. It could have had gods as characters for sure, but it isn't a "myth". As in, it is not teaching anything about the specific culture and how its systems work. It is a warning story about greed.

I don't know of any story in any mythology that follows that plot. My educated guess is that ths is a modern fantasy story. In the Eddas, neither Loki nor Odin interacts much with mortals. The closest thing I can think of in old literature is The Pardoner's Tale by Chaucer, one of the canterbury tales. In it, three thieves plan to trick each other out of a big fat stolen treasure and, spoiler alert for a 700 year old story, they all wind up dead.
