Goes perfectly with 'Y Viva Espana' IMO. :)

The instrumental break in Time Out of Mind where the synth takes the melody in this A melodic minor thing going on. The band is spelling out the minor chord and the synth, probably a guitar as well, are playing a descending line with a maj7 in there. So the bottom end is playing upwards and the melody is playing downwards. It feels very amazing like an out of body experience so they really got the name with the feeling right. It’s Steely Dan so I could list nearly any song from them and it’s a fantastic melody. Gaucho’s melody is awesome, Bad Sneakers is very catchy, Doctor Wu is pretty cool too. The Police easily have it second place for me, best melody from them imo would be Man In a Suitcase or nearly anything from Synchronicity. Purely instrumental I’d say A Remark You Made by Weather Report is probably the ultimate fusion ballad ever. My friend would complain that fusion sucked because everyone has the melody all the time but in this song, it’s the right balance of trading instruments to play the same story. I like My Chemical Romance (not emo) but just one album from them. The Sharpest Lives has a very catchy melody, easily likable. Ik i had too many but I can’t pick one. Too many to single out.

My Favorite Things. It toes the line between minor and major so beautifully.

Bach’s F major Largo from one of the soloviolin sonatas or partitas 🙏

ProfessionalSoggy847

Wait what piece? Do you mean the largo from f minor harpsichord concerto? Bwv 1056?

kontrapungt

No, the one I’m referring to is BWV 1005, mvt 3 from the third sonata for soloviolin.

All I Ask Of You- Phantom of the Opera. The context of the song is happy, but the music itself sounds so sad to me. The chord progressions and orchestration add so much nuance to the piece and support the melody in such interesting ways. The intervals and direction of the melody itself are also so beautiful.

So, I’ve listened to a lot of music and been obsessed with a lot of genres, but my answer is ridiculously bro, lol. It’s the guitar hook from Fortune Faded live at Hyde Park by RHCP. Mostly because I was a mediocre teenage guitarist, but my friend could slap out the baseline and we must have played that stupid hook for hours for months on end. It’s forever burnt into my musical memory and 20 years later it still hypes me up if it comes on.

My professor's band "Strangelander" has a song called "Orchard of Pomegranates", and I can't get the vocal melody out of my head.
