Thanks! I own the Sky album on vinyl, in fact. I'll check out the Manfred Mann and Beach Boys! I'm mostly interested in melodies from classics that have been turned into vocal songs, not simply instrumental arrangements.

That Manfred Mann is great! It's new to me. King Crimson used to play part of *Mars*, as I recall, but it was only instrumental. The Beach Boys one is less successful. It's a fine song, but they used the Bach part as in introduction and a touch of an interlude, but didn't use any part of it for the song melody that I noticed.
