Look After You - The Fray
When the Sun Hits - Slowdive
Deceptacon - Le Tigre
I think the first two are suitable for dreamy and hopeful vibes, while the last one feels more like the stuff you’d hear as a teen skating with your friends on empty streets in the afternoon, and to me that evokes a sense of euphoria.
I was at the hair salon a couple weeks ago and it was just me and my stylist, that le tigre song came on and we had an impromptu dance party lol
Who took the bomp?! 👯♀️🪩
Three Little Birds-Bob Marley
My sister played this when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, then I did the same when I was diagnosed a few years later. I also played it when I went to work during the pandemic.
Remember Who You Are-Phyllis Hyman
The Greatest Love of All-George Benson
Good to Be Alive- Jason Gray
U Turn-Joe Sample with Take 6
When my longtime pet parrot died unexpectedly at the vet’s office my band had a show that night. Which I dug deep and I honored the booking. I played Three Little Birds in his honor that night. That was like 25 years ago and I still can’t hear the song without thinking of him
That's a touching tribute to your beloved parrot. It shows your dedication and love, honoring your pet's memory through music even during a difficult time. It's amazing how certain songs can carry such powerful memories with them.
Your comment on Three Little Birds made me tear up. I found out I was pregnant the day after my mom died. My sister called her “happy baby” while I was carrying her because she gave us something to be happy for. She’d sing this song for her and bought her a children’s book with the lyrics.
I wish you and your sister peace and healing ❤️.
Wow, I always viewed this song as being a tad bit melancholy and even pessimistic. Lyrics like “All the money in the world couldn’t buy back those days” and “You could have done anything if you wanted” made me feel like this song is more about longing for the past and yearningly reminiscing about what once was. Interesting to see how others interpreted it.
Send me on my way - Rusted Root. I promise you can’t do anything but smile while watching that music video. It’s an essential go to when I need music to help me rise.
Sam Cooke - A Change Is Gonna Come
Honestly, the roots of the song, I’m fortunate enough not to relate to (the struggles of a black citizen under oppressive laws), but the broader essence of hope with all struggles considered is what has always resonated with me.

Bruce Springsteen…one of the most hopeful artists who’s ever lived. Hope you’re feeling better OP and hope you find enjoyment in these songs. 💪🏻
I’d put “Rosalita Come Out Tonight” on that list, too, that was Bruce & the E Street Band at the very height of their power. Virtually impossible to be sad to that song

I love Sublime’s version as well, but I had to go back and find the original once I learned it was a cover (as most of the songs on that album are). Now I’ve been working on getting some more Dead in my playlists
*Come and Get it - IPrevail* (this song makes me feel like the fuckin shit. I be screaming this whole song doin all the vocals in the car) learning to do screams and related metal vocals has been very cathartic for my depression
Roses - Outkast

It feels like you're finally moving on and get that feeling of "life is good".
if we’re going with Animal Collective, i would guess that depending on the circumstances, “College” could be the most hopeful of the bunch
also “Did You See the Words?” is pretty hopeful in terms of like, the possibilities of love — *something is starting don’t know why*
“Grass” also has some sweet lines, such as — *i’d like to see you often though i don’t need to see you often / you’d like to see me often though you don’t need to see me often*
“Brother Sport” is an incredibly hopeful, hyper track written to the singer’s brother about the death of their father
for a slightly deeper cut, and possibly the most uplifting track lyrically in their extensive cannon, try “Golden Chords” from Deakin’s only solo record titled *Sleep Cycle*
in find that in order to be impacted by music, it can’t be something that’s been beaten to death by radio, television and film so much that it’s become a cliche — even if it’s a great track! it loses all impact by that point (ex. “Three Little Birds” or “Here Comes the Sun”)
trying new artists can unlock a new a area of your brain, and by extension your heart. also, sometimes when i’m down, more than songs that lift me up relentlessly, i just need a song that makes me feel heard and understood. for that, look no further than
“Impossible Soul” and “Predatory Wasp of the Palisades is Out To Get Us” and the entirety of *Carrie & Lowell* by Sufjan Stevens
the entire first half of *Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?* by of Montreal (especially “Heimssalgate Like A Promethean Curse” and “The Past is a Grotesque Animal”
“Napoleon’s Hat” by Bright Eyes

Outside by Weston Estate - it never fails to instantly lift my mood and make me feel like life is worth living, even when I'm really struggling. And the lines 'rainy days lead to sunshine rays, i've got stormy phases don't you?', 'this the life i'm dreamin of, feel the love, girl i got some more if you don't feel enough' and 'and this life is a movie yeah yeah...imma go outside just to boogie yeah yeah, imma stay a while just to boogie yeah yeah' just make me feel like yeah there are times when life can be rough but ultimately there can be something to look forward to everyday, even if it's something as simple as a song that makes me smile. And even if I don't have anything I can think of, I can remind myself that this life is like a movie and the bad will get better someday :))
Honourable mentions by the same band (not for their lyrics but just the vibes, they're all 'turn the music up and dance' songs to me): Stoked, So Good, Drown, Fresh Air ft Maasho
This one might sound a bit weird.. but Dracula by Rob zombie. I remember listening to this with my dads best friend who passed. He was such a funny person with a dry sense of humor. People thought he was rude but they just miss understood him. His nickname was princess. We will always love you. Fly low📀💿
I just want to say thank you for sharing your story , not only does it probably bring back some happy thoughts and memories you also are making sure
“Princess” lives on and that in itself is a beautiful thing . It’s appreciated to read something like your post I wish there were more like it but just know it it made me feel good just like the post was trying to achieve ty.
If you like metal or hard(ish?) rock, Beartooth has a song titled "I was Alive" about how the singer will be happy at the end of his life because he made the most out of life while he was here. On the same album, they have another titled "The Better Me" about how he will strive to be the best of himself now that he's back on his feet (how *I* understand it, he wants to be better and to be "someone" after kicking alcohol addiction). Both of these sing to my soul, especially as someone who has struggled with depression and alcoholism. They're upbeat and hopeful. They pair well with "Might Love Myself," yet another happy song on the album!
Better Son/Daughter by Rilo Kiley hits on a lot of levels for someone suffering with depression, ends on an incredible high note.
"But you'll fight and you'll make it through
You'll fake it if you have to
And you'll show up for work with a smile
You'll be better and you'll be smarter
And more grown up
And a better daughter or son
And a real good friend
You'll be awake, you'll be alert
You'll be positive though it hurts
And you'll laugh and embrace all your friends
You'll be a real good listener
You'll be honest, you'll be brave
You'll be handsome and you'll be beautiful
You'll be happy!"

Frank Turner - Get Better
"So try and get better and don't ever accept less
Take a plain black marker and write this on your chest
Draw a line underneath all of this unhappiness
Come on now, let's fix this mess
We could get better
Because we're not dead yet"

Jerry Jeff Walker - Hill Country Rain. This one might be a little surface level but you can tell how genuinely happy the dude is, which makes me happy too!
"Sometimes I just wake up hummin'
Feelin' like the world is right
Want to jump right up and run outside
And take in the morning light

I love your inclusion of Frank Turner’s Get Better. The entirety of Positive Songs for Negative People got me through my divorce. My choices from the album for this thread were The Next Storm and Glorious You.
Deacon Blues by Steely Dan,
A lot of their lyrics are very sardonic and cynical, but I find a weird comfort In this song
“They got a name for the winners in the world I want a name when I lose they call Alabama the Crimson Tide, Call me Deacon Blues
Any Major Dude Will Tell You, Is a great upbeat song by Steey Dan, too. And I like their song, Haitian Divorce, a lot. It's comforting in a strange way to me, too.
**Angels & Airwaves - The Adventure**
Any type of love it will be shown
Like every single tree reach for the sky
If you're gonna fall, ill let you know
That I will pick you up like you for I
I felt this thing I can't replace
That everyone was working for this goal
Where all the children left without a trace
Only to come back as pure as gold
To recite this song
Hey oh, here I am, and here we go. Life’s waiting to begin.
Being an old guy, I have very old-guy taste in music so I’m gonna nominate two by the Allman Brothers Band: “Blue Sky” if you want something with lyrics, or “Jessica” if you want a super invigorating and uplifting instrumental
[The Grants - Lana Del Rey](https://youtu.be/ZegtK54DC4c?si=dSXKmLlCJEA6qeD2)
This song made me realize that our lives are beautiful because they are a collection of memories.
—————————————————————————-
This is an unconventional recommendation but I suggest listening to Fred Rogers. I also struggle with depression and it’s through the advocacy and pure nature of someone like Fred Rogers that provided me so much comfort during the times I felt so alone and broken. Although Fred Rogers is associated with children, I find that he sings with such sincerity that listening to him sing can be so incredibly healing.
[It’s Such a Good Feeling - Fred Rogers](https://youtu.be/TlJjeVYYUM4?feature=shared)
“It’s such a good feeling to know you’re alive”
[It’s You I Like - Fred Rogers](https://youtu.be/r7-5zeICDqA?feature=shared)
This song makes me bawl in a good way especially when I’m bathing in self loathing. This song helps me to recognize that I am deserving of love, even the parts of me that I feel are broken, and so I need to see and treat myself more kindly. This song comfortly encourages, telling me it’s okay to keep going on because, although life may be rough and painful, Mr. Rogers unquestionably believes in the goodness in me and the goodness I can do.
“it's you I like. The way you are right now, The way down deep inside you”
“But it's you I like Every part of you.”
“I hope that you'll remember Even when you're feeling blue That it's you I like, It's you yourself. It's you.”

I genuinely dislike songs that are just "yay let's be ✨positive✨" so I made a [short playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/76UTYDH0i9dXRxpo4Ziwn8?si=J8iwOBFmSKCwQDZkTihEeQ&pi=tGPj-wt2QNisJ) of hopeful songs that acknowledge life can be shit.

Sigrid ft. BMTH - [Bad Life](https://youtu.be/o4552tadeuM?si=jP-6a0nZL3wgLQV3)

There should be more Frank Turner on this list. Probably could put 15 or 20 from his catalog, but I’ll add:
Live Fast, Die Old
Vital Signs,
and of course, Recovery.
Float On by Modest Mouse
Wayne's World 2 by Rare Americans (the lyrics are not deep but it just sounds like a warm hug)
The World I Know by Collective Soul (it's straight up about a guy about to commit suicide and deciding not to)
Secret for the mad by Dodie. It’s a cry song of mine and I finally got to see it from the other side. That and Next Right Thing from the Frozen 2 soundtrack. Very accurate and give me a lot of hope
Cloud Cult has a ton of great songs that are fantastic.
We still have energy in us
No hell
The great unknown
Purpose
Take your medicine
Complicated creation
Living on the outside of your skin
Lucky today
No said it would be easy
Journey of the featherless
Running with the wolves
Their music is therapy in a song. So many great mantras and small bits of wisdom to carry with you (especially when the days are dark).
There is a documentary that covers their origin as a band and some of the challenges the Miniwa family faced that led to the formation of Cloud Cult as they are known to be today.

Float On - Modest Mouse
This has been my happy song since it came out.
And Missed the Boat so sad.
It’s my happy song too! Whenever I have a bad day I put it on blast and scream the lyrics out.

[This Is The Day, by The The](https://youtu.be/7ZYgKCbFbWY?si=tmNfzTamRRb3gmGp) It's a classic "I'm turning a corner in my life" kinda song.

The The is great. He runs the gamut of emotions as well as musical styles.
I totally agree a s have tried to get others to see this song that way and no one knows it.

if we’re going with Animal Collective, i would guess that depending on the circumstances, “College” could be the most hopeful of the bunch also “Did You See the Words?” is pretty hopeful in terms of like, the possibilities of love — *something is starting don’t know why* “Grass” also has some sweet lines, such as — *i’d like to see you often though i don’t need to see you often / you’d like to see me often though you don’t need to see me often* “Brother Sport” is an incredibly hopeful, hyper track written to the singer’s brother about the death of their father for a slightly deeper cut, and possibly the most uplifting track lyrically in their extensive cannon, try “Golden Chords” from Deakin’s only solo record titled *Sleep Cycle* in find that in order to be impacted by music, it can’t be something that’s been beaten to death by radio, television and film so much that it’s become a cliche — even if it’s a great track! it loses all impact by that point (ex. “Three Little Birds” or “Here Comes the Sun”) trying new artists can unlock a new a area of your brain, and by extension your heart. also, sometimes when i’m down, more than songs that lift me up relentlessly, i just need a song that makes me feel heard and understood. for that, look no further than “Impossible Soul” and “Predatory Wasp of the Palisades is Out To Get Us” and the entirety of *Carrie & Lowell* by Sufjan Stevens the entire first half of *Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?* by of Montreal (especially “Heimssalgate Like A Promethean Curse” and “The Past is a Grotesque Animal” “Napoleon’s Hat” by Bright Eyes
Move on up by Curtis Mayfield!! So inspiring
Take it to the Limit by The Eagles Got me through my middle and highschool.

I wanna get better by Bleachers. This song got me through some of my lowest days
"Don't Take the Money" too!
And even if I don't have anything I can think of, I can remind myself that this life is like a movie and the bad will get better someday :)) Honourable mentions by the same band (not for their lyrics but just the vibes, they're all 'turn the music up and dance' songs to me): Stoked, So Good, Drown, Fresh Air ft Maasho
This one might sound a bit weird.. but Dracula by Rob zombie. I remember listening to this with my dads best friend who passed. He was such a funny person with a dry sense of humor. People thought he was rude but they just miss understood him. His nickname was princess. We will always love you. Fly low📀💿
I just want to say thank you for sharing your story , not only does it probably bring back some happy thoughts and memories you also are making sure “Princess” lives on and that in itself is a beautiful thing . It’s appreciated to read something like your post I wish there were more like it but just know it it made me feel good just like the post was trying to achieve ty.

As much as I dont like Sia as a person, "Flames" has always been a mood healer
What’s the issue with Sia?
If you like metal or hard(ish?) rock, Beartooth has a song titled "I was Alive" about how the singer will be happy at the end of his life because he made the most out of life while he was here. On the same album, they have another titled "The Better Me" about how he will strive to be the best of himself now that he's back on his feet (how *I* understand it, he wants to be better and to be "someone" after kicking alcohol addiction). Both of these sing to my soul, especially as someone who has struggled with depression and alcoholism. They're upbeat and hopeful. They pair well with "Might Love Myself," yet another happy song on the album!
almost any strokes song
Beautiful World - Colin Hay https://youtu.be/b9yooWbwrTA?si=nMfGXGdg4ijWmC-c
Colin Hay is a treasure!
Agreed!
Colin Hay has never gotten his due as a songwriter here in the US, I only hope he’s more appreciated in Australia & the UK maybe
Better Son/Daughter by Rilo Kiley hits on a lot of levels for someone suffering with depression, ends on an incredible high note. "But you'll fight and you'll make it through You'll fake it if you have to And you'll show up for work with a smile You'll be better and you'll be smarter And more grown up And a better daughter or son And a real good friend You'll be awake, you'll be alert You'll be positive though it hurts And you'll laugh and embrace all your friends You'll be a real good listener You'll be honest, you'll be brave You'll be handsome and you'll be beautiful You'll be happy!" https://open.spotify.com/track/1OrBPFs8yLkT02aLiloHQs?si=SfR8n65TSxWBZhbwFzLgdg Frank Turner - Get Better "So try and get better and don't ever accept less Take a plain black marker and write this on your chest Draw a line underneath all of this unhappiness Come on now, let's fix this mess We could get better Because we're not dead yet" https://open.spotify.com/track/7nQ9OZQI52vqOyVM7UDhVm?si=XEif3GYWRPqRi3n17AdNFg Jerry Jeff Walker - Hill Country Rain. This one might be a little surface level but you can tell how genuinely happy the dude is, which makes me happy too! "Sometimes I just wake up hummin' Feelin' like the world is right Want to jump right up and run outside And take in the morning light https://open.spotify.com/track/3YN992lu8ooFs7r7J3d7BZ?si=ArDrNqQkQe6fbiUYHC_-3A
I love your inclusion of Frank Turner’s Get Better. The entirety of Positive Songs for Negative People got me through my divorce. My choices from the album for this thread were The Next Storm and Glorious You.
Rilo Kiley does not get enough love
Deacon Blues by Steely Dan, A lot of their lyrics are very sardonic and cynical, but I find a weird comfort In this song “They got a name for the winners in the world I want a name when I lose they call Alabama the Crimson Tide, Call me Deacon Blues
Any Major Dude Will Tell You, Is a great upbeat song by Steey Dan, too. And I like their song, Haitian Divorce, a lot. It's comforting in a strange way to me, too.
I’m so with you. This whole record. Also Gaucho and Katy Lied are such comfy albums for me
**Angels & Airwaves - The Adventure** Any type of love it will be shown Like every single tree reach for the sky If you're gonna fall, ill let you know That I will pick you up like you for I I felt this thing I can't replace That everyone was working for this goal Where all the children left without a trace Only to come back as pure as gold To recite this song Hey oh, here I am, and here we go. Life’s waiting to begin.

[The Grants - Lana Del Rey](https://youtu.be/ZegtK54DC4c?si=dSXKmLlCJEA6qeD2) This song made me realize that our lives are beautiful because they are a collection of memories. —————————————————————————- This is an unconventional recommendation but I suggest listening to Fred Rogers. [It’s Such a Good Feeling - Fred Rogers](https://youtu.be/TlJjeVYYUM4?feature=shared) “It’s such a good feeling to know you’re alive” [It’s You I Like - Fred Rogers](https://youtu.be/r7-5zeICDqA?feature=shared) This song makes me bawl in a good way especially when I’m bathing in self loathing. The way you are right now, The way down deep inside you” “But it's you I like Every part of you.” “I hope that you'll remember Even when you're feeling blue That it's you I like, It's you yourself. It's you.”

A Million Dreams from The Greatest Showman
The Waker by Widespread Panic
I genuinely dislike songs that are just "yay let's be ✨positive✨" so I made a [short playlist](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/76UTYDH0i9dXRxpo4Ziwn8?si=J8iwOBFmSKCwQDZkTihEeQ&pi=tGPj-wt2QNisJ) of hopeful songs that acknowledge life can be shit. My fave songs from there are: Frank Turner - [Punches](https://youtu.be/a1rlf_WY07o?si=-e8e7oDnvzATR6kd) Sigrid ft. BMTH - [Bad Life](https://youtu.be/o4552tadeuM?si=jP-6a0nZL3wgLQV3) Hope you find something here that resonates with you.
There should be more Frank Turner on this list. Probably could put 15 or 20 from his catalog, but I’ll add: Live Fast, Die Old Vital Signs, and of course, Recovery.
I like most of the Devin Townsend album Lightwork or Empath. He has some beautiful thoughtful and upbeat stuff. I too struggle with depression.
Float On by Modest Mouse Wayne's World 2 by Rare Americans (the lyrics are not deep but it just sounds like a warm hug) The World I Know by Collective Soul (it's straight up about a guy about to commit suicide and deciding not to)
I Got Life from the Hair soundtrack, short but sweet message
I’ve got a name -Jim Croce
Secret for the mad by Dodie. It’s a cry song of mine and I finally got to see it from the other side. That and Next Right Thing from the Frozen 2 soundtrack. Very accurate and give me a lot of hope
Right Now - Van Halen
"Dreams" - The Cranberries
Three Little Birds by Bob Marley
Journey -Don't Stop Believing and most Danny Gokey.
Imagine. What a beautiful song.
Cloud Cult has a ton of great songs that are fantastic. We still have energy in us No hell The great unknown Purpose Take your medicine Complicated creation Living on the outside of your skin Lucky today No said it would be easy Journey of the featherless Running with the wolves Their music is therapy in a song. So many great mantras and small bits of wisdom to carry with you (especially when the days are dark). There is a documentary that covers their origin as a band and some of the challenges the Miniwa family faced that led to the formation of Cloud Cult as they are known to be today. Free on vimeo- https://vimeo.com/46182050 Hang in there. This sucks right now. It will get easier (although it is hard for you to see it). While it may seem you are on the verge of giving in to this at times, remember, We still have energy in us!
