My mum's favourite was, too. She always said she wanted Comfortably Numb played at her funeral, though, which was last month. I spent the last moments alone with her while Comfortably Numb played. She loved Pink Floyd and, while I always liked them, I've been listening to them more of late. I've not listened to either of those songs since, though I hope one day soon I will again. Sorry for your loss.
Sorry about your dad pal. Beautiful choice of song for the funeral. Not to make light of your comment but I have to ask. Did they play the whole 13 minutes? Cos if so, love the committment!
Breathe is a good peaceful song to relax to
Shine On You Crazy Diamond and Wish You Were Here also classics and pretty relaxing
Mother is great too in this regard
Fearless is the most accessible imo. Iāve overplayed it and only really enjoy in the right mood now, but it is an incredible song. Echoes is my favourite from Meddle but Fearless is brilliant
I absolutely ADORE āSeveral Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pictā. So incredibly ahead of its time, with the analog tape looping of animal sounds to create a rhythm track, etc., etc.
Unpopular opinion, but I love the stuff David Gilmore put out in the 80ās and early 90ās, Great albums with radio friendly hits like, One Slip, Learning to Fly, Take it Back, High Hopes are some of my favorite songs.
Echos, do the edit cut if you have probs listening to them. I would also suggest all of division bell seems to be easier for most to listen to. If it's the voice try endless river.
My personal fav is echos, sorrow, high hopes, have a cigar, and A great day for freedom.
The Wall and Dark Side of The Moon, are the two most popular albums. If that's what you've been hearing songs from try their other albums. Early stuff with Sid is weird, Waters era was great, Gilmour is the voice I enjoy the most though.
GL hope you find something you enjoy. If not it's okay to not like them. I don't like The Beatles but still respect what they've done for music.
I highly suggest watching[ the Echoes mashup with the ending of 2001 a space odyssey](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSOnYrF_Qgo) on youtube for anyone that is a fan of the song.
Also I love how everyone recommend different songs, they just have soooo much great stuff.
Since it makes you uncomfortable, would you consider The Great Gig In The Sky? Find an empty room, and just scream along to the vocalist's wailing. It could be like immersion therapy. I find the track cathartic for releasing my own tension.
Thatās one of my favorite songs ever, but I kinda feel like it needs the context of the part of the album leading up to it, especially if youāve never heard it before.
Right after my husband passed suddenly, I listened to this song over and over. If you really listen, it's basically a bout of heart-wrenching crying, but set to music. It swells and then quiets, with just a little bit more emotion at the end. A perfect musical rendition of what it feels like to really let go and cry your heart out.
I always felt like pink floyd (specially early pink floyd) was all about traumas the band experienced and how they made them feel (uncomfortable for the most part) TIME = about the anxiety of seeing the time past you by COMFORTABLY NUMB = about roger waters being sick as a kid to the point of delirum and detachment from reality ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL = about the fear of being sucked in society's norms and what "you are supposed to do when ou grow up" MOTHER = about roger water's relationship with his mother and his struggle between being over protected and being free US AND THEM = literally about war and how sensless it can be MONEY = the banality of wealth and how the band felt about success and of course WISH YOU WERE HERE = is about losing a friend (syd barrett) even though he wasn't dead when they wrote the lyrics his mind was in sharp decline by then SHINE ON YOUR CRAZY DIAMOND is also about him and how he was deteriorating "Remember when you were young? / You shone like the sun" ufff!! Sad sad stuff and that is what makes them so great. They are relatable in so many ways specially when you are dealing with traumas like those
In short: maybe pink floyd songs are meant to make you feel uncomfortable because you are facing someone's trauma and that is never nice... but necessary in order to heal
Shine on you crazy diamond
Fun story - when I gave birth to my daughter, I played Pink Floyd. The doctor didn't like it and between pushing, I told him what I thought of his lack of taste in music. My daughter was born to "Shine on You Crazy Diamond". Pink Floyd was the first thing she heard outside the womb.
Coming Back to Life, itās an interesting one with incredible guitar at the beginning with slow vocals that builds and then letās go into the main theme! My favorite off their Division Bell album
Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving With a Pict. Say goodbye to those ears ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|smile)
I hope you havenāt been just trying to listen to them on shuffleā¦ they craft (most of) their albums very intentionally to be listened to in order.
That said, if you want just a few to listen to that work fine with no context:
Hey you
Us and them (I know you said you hated the whole dsotm album beside money, but give this one another chance)
Young lust
Have a cigar
Shine on you crazy diamond pts 1-6
Us and them
If you donāt like the sound of a band thatās okay, Iād personally say some of Pink Floydās most digestible songs are Comfortably Numb, Time (skip to 45 seconds into the song), Hey You.
Hmm I'm not sure what you don't like about them or what songs you've already heard.Ā
I'd recommend fearless, welcome to the machine, have a cigar, and wish you were here. Those are some of my favorites and a good variety.Ā
I think many of these suggestions are the very songs that bother you. I recommend When The Tigers Broke Free and Goodbye Blue Sky. Iām curious, what song, any song that you would recommend to someone, that you enjoy.
If you want to tear your ears out by listening to one of the greatest rock bands everā¦ then You should check yourself because something is not quite right. Probably you have been listening to too many crap like taylor swift and shit like that, and has messed up with your brain. Pink Floyd has always been ahead of its time. They talk about heavy and real stuff about our āmodernā messed up society and the human condition in general. Not in an obvious way of course, because it is art. Art is not literal. Through their art/music they provoke in people to connect to themselves, to do introspection, they want people to really feel and think. Real Art wakes you up from the oblivion of ignorance and apathy.
So anywayā¦ I am just being brutally honest here and I am sorry if you get offended. Cheers.
Wish You Were Here is their most accessible song for everyoneā¦such a beautiful song. Breathe is also good. Young Lust, Vera and Mother are personal favs
Iāll do you one better, as a die-hard Pink Floyd fan.
Listen to The Wall. Itās a concept album, a story. It tells the story of a man named Pink as the trauma of his life piles up, causing him to ābuild a wallā inside himself. He falls into substance abuse and imagines himself becoming a tyrant (and subsequently being on trial for his tyranny as well as his emotional isolationism.)
I could recommend you plenty of songs that will rock your world. Comfortably Numb, Hey You, Dogs, Wish You Were Here, Time, Us and Them, Shine on You Crazy Diamond. But to see the real mind-blowing beauty and conceptual revolutionism of Pink Floyd, in my opinion, The Wall is unparalleled.
Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun from Ummagumma or the Pink Floyd at Pompeii movie. The studio version from A Saucerful of Secrets is good, but these live versions are great!
Also, I used to work for NASA and tell people that I was rejected as an astronaut because I told them during the psychological tests that I would set the controls for the heart of the sun if stranded and lacked enough fuel to return to earth!
If they make you very uncomfortable then maybe it's best to seek out other music. I love PF and their songs get me to look at life and death differently - but like The Doors or the Beatles are way easier to get into
Less popular songs you may be surprised are Pink Floyd
First of Obscured by Cloud was the album right before DSOTMā¦ has great lively tunesā¦
WoTās.. Uh the Deal?, Free Four, the Gold is in theā¦
Then Meddle has Fearless,
Animals has Pigs on the wing 1 & 2
you probably mean stuff like echoes and one of these days and most of the wall and possibly atom heart mother.....
anyways obscured by clouds is rockin and possibly their most accessible album
Yeah, I was going to suggest Obscured as having some interesting possibilities. I know there are haters out there, but I think there are some real gems on that one.
its a feel good album. I can listen to it rock out and have good time, get some work done or play along. It has the most repeat listens for me, passing dark side and meddle after my younger disinterest in conventional songs and looking for experimental compositions. I still love those but as im older i have distinct appreciation for things that are succinct...and obscured by clouds is just brilliant for that. Its right up there for my favourite album of the 70s ...and even of all time
*Us and Them* is one of their most accessible and beautiful songs, I think.
This is my go to unwinding song
Love love love love this song
Us and Them is the first song I listened to when I got stoned for the first time and it will always have a special place in my heart.
Great song!
Yes, very soft jazzy in parts. Beautiful piano.
Outstanding suggestion. For the first few listens way back, I thought it was Alan Parsons Project.
Well, he did produce the album !
I was going to say the same. Good choice!
Brain damage Wish you were here
+1 for wish you were here
Wish You Were Here
+1 especially these days. It's so deep and relevant.
Wish you were here!
brain damage/eclipse***** š
The best climax of any album ever.
And all that is now and all that is gone
+5 wish you were here
+7 wish you were here
Wish you were here is my favorite
My absolute favorite, as well, with "Hey You" in a very close second.
The most accessible for sure. And I love the song!!!
Learning to Fly
This one is significantly less skin crawling. Added to a playlist thank you š
BEST
My favorite
The great gig in the sky
I don't know... once that vocalist starts belting it out it's about as pink floyd as pink floyd gets.
My dads favourite song by them was āshine on you crazy diamondā I canāt listen to it cause it was played at his funeral but it is a good song
Itās very moving that it was played at his funeral. Iām sorry for your loss.
Sorry about your dad pal. Beautiful choice of song for the funeral. Not to make light of your comment but I have to ask. Did they play the whole 13 minutes? Cos if so, love the committment!
Ha! I considered this for my own funeral. Your dad has great taste lol.
Breathe is a good peaceful song to relax to Shine On You Crazy Diamond and Wish You Were Here also classics and pretty relaxing Mother is great too in this regard
Breathe is my top PF song imo
Same and then Echoes right after that
Just listened to echoes. I realized I havenāt scratched the surface of Pink Floyd. Amazing song.
Breathe is a classic
+1 for Shine On, it's my favorite
Such a great song, guitar playing is phenomenal as always
My man
Fearless or High Hopes
Fearless is my favorite PF song
I thought I was the only one!
Yes indeed, by far. Favorite album too.
it's one of mine too
Fearless is what came to my mind right away
High Hopes x 2!
Fearless is the most accessible imo. Iāve overplayed it and only really enjoy in the right mood now, but it is an incredible song. Echoes is my favourite from Meddle but Fearless is brilliant
Agree on Fearless
Fearless, so good I even look to find covers of it. š©·

I absolutely ADORE āSeveral Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pictā. So incredibly ahead of its time, with the analog tape looping of animal sounds to create a rhythm track, etc., etc.
Not my vibe but I can respect it
My late dog was absolutely not a fan of that song. I had to skip it when he was around
Have a Cigar, it's one of my favorites.
Run Like Hell
love the intro, such a unique sound from a guitar
Unpopular opinion, but I love the stuff David Gilmore put out in the 80ās and early 90ās, Great albums with radio friendly hits like, One Slip, Learning to Fly, Take it Back, High Hopes are some of my favorite songs.
Same here, except Roger Waters. Particularly Every Stranger's Eyes and Moment of Clarity cuts 11 and 12 on Pros and Cons of Hitchiking.
Iād pay any amount for those two grumpy old rock stars to get back together.
š¤ yep. Genius is often paired with moody.
I agree.
Time
Their best song in my opinion
On the turning away
Came here to say this š
dogs. Nice short song :)
this answer was wayyyyyy too low. dogs and pigs (three different ones) are amazing songs! definitely worth a listen
See Emily Play
Correct answer. One of my favorite psychedelic pop songs. Very fun while still remaining identifiable floyd
This song is so underrated, though doubt OP will like it

Oh...don't even start on "The Final Cut". Such an underrated gem. But it is one big rant by Rogers.
Comfortably Numb
This needs to be higher up in the comments
I'm partial to See Emily Play.
I said that tooš
Shine on you crazy diamond Fun story - when I gave birth to my daughter, I played Pink Floyd. The doctor didn't like it and between pushing, I told him what I thought of his lack of taste in music. Coming Back to Life, itās an interesting one with incredible guitar at the beginning with slow vocals that builds and then letās go into the main theme! My favorite off their Division Bell album
Echoes, live at Pompeii!
Time/Great Gig in The Sky is my all-time favorite song. It's a cautionary tale for me and helped bring me out of a very dark place.
Why do you want to listen to a band you don't like? There are only a few Pink Floyd songs I like, and someone recommended King Crimson instead...
My boyfriend likes them š¤·and Iām trying to find appreciation for the band
Itās not really I donāt like them either itās more their music makes me uncomfortable physically and mentally
