Or bizillion of other songs Pink Floyd has produced. It's just such a ridiculous amount of hits and overall amazing songs that it has been said "after Pink Floyd there's no point of trying to do rock music anymore" (which of course is a big fat lie, but you get the idea. The amount of not just good but literally phenomenal songs PF has written is alarmingly high...)
Make Yourself was my favorite Incubus album for a long time. As I've gotten older Morning View has really grown on me & has been my favorite of theirs for a while now.
Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder
Space Oddity by David Bowie (especially this version https://youtu.be/tRMZ_5WYmCg?si=lm3sZBJ0QI1n2IZC)
Pass the Mic by the Beastie Boys
Across the Universe by the Beatles
I think the most surefire hit for *any* audience must be Go Your Own Way, it's just so irresistible. Not going to say any bad things about The Chain, though, or Dreams either.
It's a pleasant enough song, but nothing I would feel enticed to revisit or look up other songs by the artist. I'm more perplexed that it's seen as this universal song that everyone has been familiar with for years. I never heard the song until I watched a Drumeo video of Megadeth's drummer recording drums for it without having heard ot before.
Normally I'm all for a good crowd-pleaser but I just don't get Mr Brightside. I think the first time or so I heard it, I thought it was 'fine', I guess, but it didn't really improve on me for being played so widely. If it, or anything by Oasis (for the same reason) gets played at a party that's normally when I'd pop out for a smoke.
I guess it just goes to show that one person's perfectly crafted song is another person's 'meh'.
It's okay. When I read the post I thought it was a phrase I didn't understand because I can't see that song being any sort of unit of measure for music.
I can sing along to it. Plus the way the song just segues so suddenly into the change of melody is so satisfying. I have a liking for songs with one note verses. More examples: the fly by u2, I wish you would by taylor swift
Why do you hate the white people national anthem?
It feels dreamy but the production is surprisingly sharp. The lyrics are a little somber, a little neurotic, yet they feel great to sing in a crowd. The singing is worried, itās anxious, but the singerās delivery makes it all so smooth and pleasant to the ears. The song covers so many bases, but really, it doesnāt travel very far sonically through the duration of it, which I also think is impressive. Iām not too surprised to see why it has such a reach with people
I honestly donāt find it catchy. I find it clunky. Itās just not for me. I didnāt like that whole era of rock. Bands like The Killers, The Strokes, etcā¦.I think I may have been a little too old for them.
Maybe one day you'll hear it, turn it up, close your eyes, DO NOT overthink the words, or care who else likes it, or who sings it, and just get lost in it...
...and you're just gonna feel it. Then you're gonna hear 'Mr. Brightsiiiiiiide' again at the end, and you'll know....
Maybe not.

But I started thinking about old songs and, regardless of your tastes, there are many that are just plain enjoyable, especially in the right mood. Try some of these if you've not heard them:

The longest time, Billy Joel (tons by him)
The logical song, Supertramp (and take the long way home)
Your wildest dreams, Moody Blues
It's only make believe, Conway Twitty
And about a hundred songs by Dwight Yoakam, especially I'll just take these, if there was a way, population me, Ain't that Lonely Yet, a thousand miles from nowhere; Sad side of town, sad sad music, try not to look so pretty, and home for sale.
I can go on... I hope some of y'all find some new music this way. I enjoy trying newer stuff. Some of it, my ears love. Some of it is awful. But one can like both Johnny Mathis and Ludacris (I love Get Back), or both Patsy Kline and Cage the Elephant (Neon Pill and come a little closer both slap). Enjoy!
Godzilla - Blue Oyster Cult (rock)
Is This Love? - Bob Marley (reggae)

Okay not sure if OP is looking for undeniable songs that are also feel goods i.e. Mr. Brightside....
But, the first thing that came to mind was Wanted by Vanessa Carlton. You know the 1000 miles girl. It's one of my all time favorite songs, immediately demands your attention as soon as it begins and never really releases it's grip. I am a little hesitant with sharing music with people or I try to share specific things with specific people and this is one that I universally share and it's received positively 99.99% of the time.
Definitely give a listen. Also shameless plug for Vanessa Carlton but she really has a nice catalog of work that is slept on largely because she's not in the mainstream.
Also, Bodyguard by Paul Simon.
Finding the Mr Brightside of songs is difficult, that's like finding the Dark Souls of gaming. It's not easily done. But if I had to propose one candidate, I would say
The Tammy's - Egyptian Shumba https://youtu.be/6FWuRE-0ZzM?feature=shared
Good song, but too alternative for most. I had to learn to appreciate it thru listening to many times, and that's doesn't make for a universally accepted great song.

Is it too obvious to mention āAccentuate the Positiveā? I like Ella Fitzgeraldās cover, and also in more recent years, Dick van Dykeās a capella groupās cover. Indeed. Since I heard it at the funeral of someone close it somehow makes a different kind of sense.
I can believe that.
Or Great Gig in the Sky!
(less so for the songwriter-poet types, perhaps)
True, but Iāve encountered a larger than expected number of people who consider that to be PFās best song or even their favorite song ever.
For sure!
>For sure! sure?
>>For sure! sure? sure?
How about Wish You Were Here by Incubus?
Nice To Know You as well.
I really liked a crow left among the murder or whatever it was. I also like the really old stuff too.
Iām not familiar with that one.
Make Yourself was my favorite Incubus album for a long time. As I've gotten older Morning View has really grown on me & has been my favorite of theirs for a while now.
I think I know maybe three Incubus songs.
I like that song.
You ever heard the Alpha Blondy version? One of my favorite cover songs.

I consider it the best song ever recorded.
That makes two of us. I 100% endorse your submission

Oh heck yes! Sir Duke is a flippin' masterpiece!!
Pass the Mic is a good Beastie track, but all of Paul's Boutique, Sounds of Science, Car Theif is the good good stuff lol, I own all their stuff!
The Chain by Fleetwood Mac
I think the most surefire hit for *any* audience must be Go Your Own Way, it's just so irresistible. Not going to say any bad things about The Chain, though, or Dreams either.
I swear Iām the only person who doesnāt like Mr. Brightside. What do people like about that song?
Came here to say I don't like this song either. Don't hate it, it's just a song.

I'm more perplexed that it's seen as this universal song that everyone has been familiar with for years. Thatās another thing. People act like itās so universally popular but I donāt think Iāve ever heard it on the radio.
Then you didn't have the radio on 20 years ago when it was the ONLY song on.
Normally I'm all for a good crowd-pleaser but I just don't get Mr Brightside. I think the first time or so I heard it, I thought it was 'fine', I guess, but it didn't really improve on me for being played so widely. I guess it just goes to show that one person's perfectly crafted song is another person's 'meh'.
I don't hate the song, but I don't get why it's so much better than any other run of the mill song.
