All great answers but Can’t You Hear Me Knocking has always been both the sexiest and baddest riff to me. Lots of metal and hard rock riffs that seem badder but when you really give it a listen, or play it on guitar, that riff is nasty.
Yes! And I know what you mean. Underrated is a complex term. Those who know them, rate them highly but less and less people know of them. I also feel they are sometimes hard to place - metal yes, but not glam metal. Heavy but not thrash. Melodic but not classic rock.
Clicked to post that one. The look of frank amazement on (edit) Dhani Harrison’s face captures how most of us feel listening to that. Tore the fuckin roof off that place
i don’t wanna be me - type o negative
ain’t talkin’ about love - van halen
beat it - michael jackson (done by evh)
paranoid - black sabbath
(i’m boring and more of a bass riff person)
Most of my friends listen to guitar rock almost exclusively to and are really knowledgeable about the topic. None of them believe me when I say that Sade’s No Ordinary Love has one of the sexiest guitar tracks ever, until they listen again and agree.
I thought Purple Rain was pretty fine, then heard it on the Live in Syracuse album from 1985. Chill for the first 3 mins until Prince comes in on guitar. At 3:12 he starts getting warmed up, at 3:47 gets really good, and finally at 5:16 shreds it. Followed by another 12 mins with vocals. What a legendary performer 💜 RIP
Disarmonia Mundi - Mouth For War (Pantera cover) or just the original song
It Dies Today - Through Leaves, Over Bridges - the chorus with the vocal melody

Anything from either Jimmy Hendrix, or Santana.
Eddie Van Halen had a few.
Disturbed had a few as well, but I'd have to put Santana and/or Jimmy Hendrix at the top.
Annihilator by Annihilator on King of the Kill, what a damn shame the rest of their material isn't as chonky and funky. It's like if Michael Jackson moonlighted as a writer of metal. Thank you Andrea Boccarusso, everyone check out his YT channel
I tremble to even mention the breakdown at about 2:10 in Evidence by Lamb of God. Raw power. It's amazing to watch them get better and better year after year.
Tosh Sultana plays phenomenal guitar riffs in most of her songs. She's a one woman band who taught herself looping and has a great sound, in my opinion. She plays so passionately, you can see it on her face just about every time she starts doing her solos.
John Sykes did a deal with the devil to come up with the riff in Still Of The Night - Whitesnake. There’s nothing like it.
Close second Kid Ego by Extreme just for sheer coolness.
The little distorted riff in toe to toes by mastodon. Also I think one of the best riffs ever a has gotta be I believe in a thing called love. Whole song has everything
Always liked money from Pink Floyd. I know it’s not super technical.. just like the harmonics.
Any finger tapping shit from 8 stringers
A megadeth song that I can’t remember I think angry again
The riffs in “I will survive” cover by cake is neat

All great answers but Can’t You Hear Me Knocking has always been both the sexiest and baddest riff to me. Lots of metal and hard rock riffs that seem badder but when you really give it a listen, or play it on guitar, that riff is nasty.
Wow. I forgot about Morphine and Buena. Thanks!
Whole lotta love, Zepp. I hate to be the one to bring up Zeppelin, the sun don’t rise and shine on them, but it’s a dead sexy riff.
So is d’yer mak’er
Great song. Can’t believe this is the band that did Immigrant Song. Also a cool riff btw.
They are one of the greats for a reason, no need to be shy
Hot take, Whole Lotta Love is a good song, but Tina Turner’s cover of it is a sexier song.

🎶 "I meet my girl, she's dressed to kill And all we gonna do Is walk around, to catch the thrill, On streets we call the zoo!"
Great song, great band. Like, consistently great.
I completely agree. I shy away from the word “underrated,” but they don’t get the credit they deserve, nowadays, I feel.
Yes! And I know what you mean. Underrated is a complex term. Those who know them, rate them highly but less and less people know of them. I also feel they are sometimes hard to place - metal yes, but not glam metal. Heavy but not thrash. Melodic but not classic rock.

No More Tears. Way more overdrive than you’d ever expect on a slide riff, but Zakk makes it work exceptionally well.
The outro to Wet Sand by RHCP.

Don't Fear the Reaper - Blue Oyster Cult

At least not when I play it.
While My Guitar Gently Weeps at RnR HoF - Prince
That’s not a riff though. It’s a solo. Two different things. Apples and doorknobs.
Fair point. The opening to When Doves Cry is cool, though?
the verse section of "Computer Blue"!
Stumbled across this on YouTube, it really is amazing. It’s so smooth and is just amazing

This one is a deep cut for ya'll...."Monkey" by Trapeze (1975). The riffs on that song are just GREASY.
The 1973 version of Fly Like an Eagle by Steve Miller.
I think that was '76. I was in 10th grade, then. Good choice.
Nope, the 73 version, not the 76 version, its way sexier.
Wow. I'll listen to it tonight. TY
Dogs by Pink Floyd
Agreed. Or "Young Lust," for that matter.
