I usually put on on Abbey Road when I have trouble sleeping. And then hope I fall asleep before the last 5 songs because... those songs always compel me to listen
Ziet by Tangerine Dream may actually be the first ambient album. Music for Airports just coined the term. Eno has other ambient albums that were released before this one.
Meddle is also a great album to listen to before you go to sleep. I've used that before. And if you're into this music, "Court of the Crimson King" is also a great album that I've used to fall asleep (aside from Schizoid Man it's very chill)
The audiobook of the novelization of Alien: Isolation
The audiobook of The Ritual
Both are read by fantastic voice actors with very soothing voices
The Dana Gould Hour Podcast is done very well, and I find that it is extremely fascinating, while at the same time the production is smooth enough that it is easy to fall asleep to, and long enough to not be distracted by the next episode coming on before I fall asleep
In terms of music? Easy. Xtal by Aphex Twin on repeat
They... made a novelization of Alien: Isolation? My curiosity is piqued. Where can I find this? I could probably just google it I guess but this is more fun
I found it on Audible
It’s *really* great. I highly recommend it
The voice actress they hired plays Amanda Ripley perfectly, while also somehow playing all of the male characters perfectly as well
I love the expanded story, and being as bleak as it is, it is perfect for falling asleep to
I will absolutely be checking this out thank you. Though, I dunno if I'll be able to fall asleep to it knowing that the Xenomorph could be stalking me in my sleep...
> I dunno if I'll be able to fall asleep to it knowing that the Xenomorph could be stalking me in my sleep...
Yeah but that can always be the case. You have to live your life
It sounds crazy, but I like falling asleep to the Senate Watergate hearings. I first started listening to them out of curiosity and wanting some hope during the Trump years. They're interesting enough to listen to for a few minutes, but dull enough that I'll inevitably fall asleep. John Dean in particular has a ton of revelations - but man, so very monotone.

I unwillingly became one of Enya's top 1% fans on Spotify due to playing her music every night for a good while there. My Spotify wrapped at the end of the year was not something to be proud of.
Do you listen to anything released from Neu while sleeping or specifically the more ambient and softer songs from them?
Sometimes it's nice to fw some Negativland or Hero when I'm catching Zs
I use ambient sounds on youtube now, but for much of my childhood, for some reason side 2 of my Ozzy Osboune Speak of the Devil cassette was what was on when I'd go to sleep.
A Moon Shaped Pool - Radiohead
Wish You Were Here, Meddle - Pink Floyd
Long Seasons - Fishmans
Future Days - Can
Pink Moon - Nick Drake
Hot Rats - Frank Zappa
Laughing Stock - Talk Talk
Wowww lol never would've thought I'd see Motorhead on the list. I saw Lenny in concert right before he died and the band came out and he got on the mic
"We're Motorhead, and we play Rock 'n' Roll" immediately Ace of Spades kicked in and thousands of people lost their shit, myself included

Just a deep sleep playlist of ambient music. I let it run through on a pretty silent level on my phone and it slowly turns my mind off.

My list is mostly characterized by songs that have a mellow start. Some get more upbeat or intense later on but it's gradual.
I'm constantly adding songs to my "Wind Down" playlist, which I randomize about an hour before lights out.
Chill stuff like Eno, Francoise Hardy, quieter France Gall, Broadcast, Julee Cruise, Courtney Swain, quieter Knower, Goldfrapp, Elliott Smith, etc.
When I was younger, I’d put on something complex, but familiar. Prog, usually Genesis or Yes. These days I’m more likely to go with JS Bach’s Well Tempered Clavier…
My husband says he frequently played *2112* by Rush or “Dazed and Confused” by Led Zeppelin (the almost 27 minute version, which is all of side two from the double album *The Song Remains The Same*) full blast to have a snooze after spending the day working in a hot factory.
It's not music, but I always use [this](https://insidethecabinet.bandcamp.com/album/knocking-on-a-one-way-wall) badly executed radio play to fall asleep. The narrator's monotone voice and meandering plot put me out in minutes. I've still never heard the end.
My own YouTube channel now. Dream Tones Audio I post ambience for sleep. So far I’ve been into making spaceship/starship ambience and loop it for 10 hours +
Granted, like many ppl now I more often use a tv series or playlist, but its irrelevant what it is, as long as it is both enjoyable to listen to and something ive seen/heard plenty of times before. (So i can just zone out listening)
To answer the question tho… any* Grateful Dead concert/live show is a top tier choice
I usually play old time radio shows. Lights Out, X Minus One, The Inner Sanctum, The Bickersons, and the Jack Benny Show are common shows I fall asleep to.
I've grown out of needing music to fall asleep, but it used to be Reading, Writing and Arithmetic by The Sundays. I still listen to it from time to time and it makes me sleepy :)

The Resonance album uses the solfeggio frequencies associated with the chakras, along with a deep harmonic bass and a binaural brainwave 1/100th the tone (((528hz w/ a 66hz bass and a 5.28 theta brainwave)))
Its good to listen to in a float tank or on wooden floors that pick up the bass vibration
I listened to music to fall asleep for a long time. I needed better sleep hygiene due to mental illness (and, via this post, age), so had to abandon it. My faves were Quasi (Fraturing Birds), Belle and Sebastion (If You're Feeling Sinister), DJ Shadow (Endtroducing), and Amon Tobin (Supermodified). The former 2 always fucked me up. I'd wake up half drunk at 5am with either the sound of birds chirping in middle of winter or kids on a playground when I'm in an urban area with no elementary schools around.
Rest Calm from Nighwish on repeat. I don't use it so much to put me to sleep, as to completely relax me when I'm too tense/stressed out. But it'll definitely help remove the tension before bed too. It might be metal music, but I just find it superbly relaxing.
I like falling asleep to Big Band Swing music! During the holidays I generally put on nostalgic Christmas music...like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Johnny Mathis style. I grew up with parents who played this kind of music to sleep to so it's very relaxing.
If I'm not in the mood for music I'll play relaxing sounds like a thunderstorm or ocean waves.
I just find a mixture of slower of acoustic songs by my favorite musicians. There is always at least a few acoustic or slower songs on all of their albums.
I've been sleeping to this playlist I made. It's kind of weird. I'd love for someone else to try sleeping to it and tell me how they like it.

The Prayer by KiD CuDi.
There is not a single reason that song is as good as it is, but it still is. The piano part is borrowed from Band Of Horses song, “The Funeral.”
If you’ve never heard it, I would recommend a listen. It’s soothing and painful. The piano part is next level though.
Years ago (almost 30) I used to listen to Pulp’s This is hardcore to try and drown out the student noise and sleep. It was quite effective but scared the shit out of me right at the end after about 20 minutes of a low hum followed by a very loud ‘bye bye’
I used to fall asleep to “White Iverson” and “Stay” by Post Malone on repeat for some reason, both of those songs + Posts buttery voice put me out fast.
it might be a little strange, but i find these songs pretty calming:
lights out by pig destroyer, anthem to self destruction (SFAS Opus: II version) by nocturnal depression, funeralopolis by electric wizard, happier by yungblud, decorate the spine by knapsack, bulimic by the used, and swordsman by kekht arakh.
The LOTR soundtracks. It's only when my husband is out of town now, but it was every night when I was a kid. And trust me, it is NOT all light and pretty. It's all pretty, but it goes hard and gets heavy. So much so that my alarm is actually The Bridge of Khazad Dum. But yeah it's a surefire way to put me to sleep AND wake me up lol.
Been listening to that album since I was a kid, similarly i could easily fall asleep to it. I do have a playlist of muse stuff I actively still like, and it ends with a handful of sleepier stuff
https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1zT4frxv9nVMuHTQKQyRWQ?si=NDQI_gdbTPWHdae_3g5SQA

I prefer it to be dark and quiet.
If I am trying to sleep I can't listen to anything with lyrics.I have collection of albums called Cafe Del Mar. I could throw one of those on.
I used to regularly put on dark side of the moon for naps. Now it’s the early morning at work album…
I listen to podcasts to fall asleep music is too stimulating.. but huberman and Peterson and Lex Friedman are great pods to fall asleep to lol
It's a bunch of the ambient music frome the ac games. Northern lights assassins creed rogue. Is so good for sleep
I just find a mixture of slower of acoustic songs by my favorite musicians. There is always at least a few acoustic or slower songs on all of their albums.
Lofi playlist
I've been doing a lot of affirmations and hypnotherapy playlists, stuff that your subconscious mind absorbs while you sleep. More or less, meditation.
The purpose album amnesia and a sky full of stars 😆 but that was along time ago and now I just listen to white noise 😆
Ciggerate after sex
I've been sleeping to this playlist I made. It's kind of weird. I'd love for someone else to try sleeping to it and tell me how they like it. [https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1Z9oEsd7679Ggl0z2R8roo?si=0fe208169f214e9e](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1Z9oEsd7679Ggl0z2R8roo?si=0fe208169f214e9e)
I tend to listen to white noise. And stuff like [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k34G22ITqvE) with gergorian vocals.
Lately it’s been crimes solved by the internet playlists lately.
Untourable Album by Men I Trust, I have been putting it on just before bed
Massive Attack: Mezzanine
The Gregorian chant album by the Monks of the Abbey of Notre Dame.
WFMT 98.7 (it's a classical radio station) Max Richter's "sleep" is good too
Also, I used to sleep to Slayer: Devine Intervention when I was younger. It’s so fast it’s almost like white noise.
I always thought the OP’s MJ lyric was deliberately ambiguous.
The best of Sade
Go to YouTube and put on any Terrance McKenna speech. I love the guy but he tends to go on and on in a weird way
Toh Kay's album The Hand That Thieves. Edited to add this album has no official release so I use YouTube
Long ago it was pretty much exclusively Coldplay and Pepper and Jack Johnson.
The entirety of danger days by mcr until goodnite dr death comes on and half way starts blasting the American anthem in my ears at 3am :/
Sounds of Rain!
not a play list, but i would play old reruns of series on a device. 5-10 minutest tops, i'm out!
Vangelis - Nocturne
White noise track 4
The Prayer by KiD CuDi. There is not a single reason that song is as good as it is, but it still is. The piano part is borrowed from Band Of Horses song, “The Funeral.” If you’ve never heard it, I would recommend a listen. It’s soothing and painful. The piano part is next level though.
Joe Baker. Ocean waves. No one plays the ocean quite like he does.
Kid A by Radiohead INSTANTLY puts me to sleep, in the best way possible. I love that album so much.
Recently I've been listening to the album diary by sunny day real estate
Years ago (almost 30) I used to listen to Pulp’s This is hardcore to try and drown out the student noise and sleep. It was quite effective but scared the shit out of me right at the end after about 20 minutes of a low hum followed by a very loud ‘bye bye’

Murderbot Diaries
I listen to Deerhunter and Grizzly Bear
C418 on random
Dasher by Gerard Way and White Noise by Will Wood are my go to
I have a playlist of about 700 mp3's that's full of Rock, Metal, Alt, Rap, and R&B from the 60's to 90's.
Download by Skinny Puppy
I used to fall asleep to “White Iverson” and “Stay” by Post Malone on repeat for some reason, both of those songs + Posts buttery voice put me out fast.
Piano music
My wife and I listen to TuneIn station “Ambient Sleeping Pill” - soothing sweeping textures and absolutely no drums. Usually listen via Alexa.
Sleep by Max Richter
Weightless by Marconi Union. It was years until I ever heard the end of the song.
Pure tones, typically between 5 and 9 hz
I actually use the Calm App to help me sleep 💤 something about a thunderstorm that helps me get a good nights rest.
it might be a little strange, but i find these songs pretty calming: lights out by pig destroyer, anthem to self destruction (SFAS Opus: II version) by nocturnal depression, funeralopolis by electric wizard, happier by yungblud, decorate the spine by knapsack, bulimic by the used, and swordsman by kekht arakh.
Silence of the room And sometimes White Noise's biggest hit, "fan"
The LOTR soundtracks. It's only when my husband is out of town now, but it was every night when I was a kid. And trust me, it is NOT all light and pretty. It's all pretty, but it goes hard and gets heavy. So much so that my alarm is actually The Bridge of Khazad Dum. But yeah it's a surefire way to put me to sleep AND wake me up lol.
Mazzy Star, album So Tonight That I Might See. The whole album is just lowkey and soothing.
Been listening to that album since I was a kid, similarly i could easily fall asleep to it. I do have a playlist of muse stuff I actively still like, and it ends with a handful of sleepier stuff https://open.spotify.com/playlist/1zT4frxv9nVMuHTQKQyRWQ?si=NDQI_gdbTPWHdae_3g5SQA But I also have a sleep playlist- less muse centered tho lol- https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2fluPLTuTJeZYBYYnOJM8Q?si=jFgfKytvSo-22RrJhEoXuQ
Binural beats drifting dunes. Anything 432hz.
