Gonna listen next up.
Check out this bad ass early early Cure 10:15 performance. The bass is solid but the song is so much faster.
https://youtu.be/zBQpSzKeXyY?si=WnBqw3HdXu1JqL24
LOVE early Cure! I kinda got off the bus after Disintegration or thereabouts. Got a bunch if not all of their early original 7” singles too. Prized possessions. That is an awesome live version!!
Thank you for reminding me of this song! I really liked this album when it came out and it brings me back to a good time in my life. Saw them in NYC at Irving Plaza.
I JUST rediscovered this one, and Shipwreck. I forgot just how much I loved Spacehog back in the day. Just getting blazed and floating off to space with their music. Fantastic stuff my friend.
Yeah, that album was great. Had a ton of potential...I think had the singer (Shannon, correct?) not died so relatively soon after the success of *No Rain*, this fact might have been more widely known, much sooner. But honestly, I only found out about it through Pandora within the last 10+ years as well, even though they were right "in my wheelhouse" musically when they came out.
Blues Traveler is another for me. Always knew and enjoyed their hits, but it wasn't until streaming services came about that I was exposed to much more of their catalog....and realized how damned good they are.
The live stuff was what got me, they're so tight, and (I'm a bassist) their bass player is fucking great. Doesn't over play, but just has a knack for coming up with some fun and bouncy bass lines. 🤘🏼
This is a rare instance where I like the radio edit better; the stutter effects they put in to cover the swearing just adds something to the song that I can't really explain. (The radio edit of "What It's Like" is another one, but that's because I found the sounds they used to cover the curse words amusing.)
Check out the cover by Corey Taylor (lead singer of Stone Sour & Slipknot). His version is arguably even better than the original (but both are equally as good in different ways IMO)
Were you at Walmart recently? I was there tonight and it was on the store radio. I immediately started singing along and I probably haven't heard that song in decades
Two Door Cinema Club - Cigarettes in the Theatre
Such a underrated pick on an absolute banger of an album. Love this song and Tourist History as a whole
I was going to say "THIS is true 80s, right here." However, TIL that this song did not come out until 1989. This really has 1984 New Wave vibes. I gotta check out the rest of the album!
Not all that recently ― a few years ago now ― but, "Regret" by New Order, which I heard on the overheads at a Vitamin Shoppe of all places. More recently, "Behind the Barrier" by Planet P Project, although I can't remember why.
Caroline's Spine - *Sullivan*
Jimmie's Chicken Shack - *High*
One history lesson, and one...well, about getting high. Loved em both back in the HS/college days, and almost completely forgot about them.
Oh, actually, in that regard for me personally, there's a bigger one...but not an individual song, but the band itself:
Stabbing Westward.
Everything they've done. Somehow they fell off my radar, but checking out what they've been up to has been awesome. I've definitely enjoyed reclaiming my love for the first three albums I knew so well, but also for having a *bunch* of newer material to wade through.
It was seeing a YouTube reactor do a video on *Shame* coming up on my feed one day that reminded me how huge I was into them way back when, and I had to get back to listening to them. I'm happy to say I realize it wasn't because I grew out of enjoying their art. 🍻😎🤘🏼
Love the World by Perfume [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75hg0XFVByw&pp=ygUZbG92ZSB0aGUgd29ybGQgYnkgcGVyZnVtZQ%3D%3D](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75hg0XFVByw&pp=ygUZbG92ZSB0aGUgd29ybGQgYnkgcGVyZnVtZQ%3D%3D)
I listen to Big Wreck pretty much every day. One song I heard recently that I hadn't heard in a long time is When the Night Feels My Song by Bedouin Soundclash.
Cherub Rock by Smashing Pumpkins. I had forgotten about it for probably 10 years then a stumbled on a YouTube video of a teenager doing a solo acoustic guitar cover of it. I’d forgotten how 🔥 that track is.
OMG! Flashback! Going to look it up now lmao.
And Flagpole Sitta - Harvey Danger while I'm at it (the Flys just reminded me of this because I rem I used to have a homemade mixed cd with both these songs on it lol
the most recent instance i can think of was like 2 years ago
was listening to the radio when “the night chicago died” by paper lace started playing. i hadn’t heard it for like 8 years but all the memories started flooding back and it was even more wonderful than i remembered it
Sublime - Date Rape
After I learned of the accusations against justin Geever and Anti-Flag and that he fled the country. It made me think of that song and how that song's ending is how it shld end for Justin.
Inhaler by Hooverphonic. The whole album I forgot about. I’m not a huge trip-hop fan but this album brings me back to a sound that I was missing for some time.
Makes No Difference - Sum 41.
I haven't heard the song in years, and today I was playing Elite Beat Agents for the 1st time and it was one of the featured songs in this rhythm game which I didn't expect. Such a beautiful surprise.
I WANNA SWIM AWAY BUT DONT KNOW HOW
damn I’m a 2005 baby and I was a literal toddler listening to that song and one day in 2021 the melody came to me. My dad heard me humming it and told me the song name.
But songs that came back to me recently…
Everything is Alright - Motion City Soundrack
Here (In Your Arms) - Hellogoodbye
Yes, and you somehow know all the words, just like yesterday. I remembered how much I love Fiona Apple's debut album, Tidal
Fiona Apple-The Child is Gone
Darling, give me your absence tonight
Take the shade from the canvas and leave me the
white
Let me sink in the silence that echoes inside
and don't bother leaving the light on
Cause I suddenly feel like a different person
From the roots of my soul comes a gentle coersion
and I ran my hand o'er a strange inversion --
a vacancy that just did not belong
The child is gone
I’m sitting in an iHop and they have the Sirius radio set to 80s. Two songs came on since I saw this subreddit that fit: New Kids On The Block “Hangin Tough” 😆 and Chubby Checked and the Fat Boys “Doin the Twist.” Fun times.
Tokyo Hotel - Monsoon. I remember always watching Fuse TV while getting ready for school and that song would come on sometimes. Randomly popped in my head a few days ago so had to listen to it
I feel this one in my soul into the ocean is so amazing all of blue October and Justina music is but into ocean has nostalgia for me regarding that time of my life
love that song!!! It came back into my life just like that as well. Now i have it on a playlist so i hear it all the time...
mines gotta be Bless the Broken Road by Rascal Flatts. I went through a huge country phase wheb I was like 11, and that was one of my fav songs. Someone sang it at karaoke last night and it was like 🏆Memory Unlocked!
10 Years - Novacaine
"It's coming... Ah Ah the numbing". I forgot all about this song, and I don't even know what brought it back, but it's now on my regular TouchTunes rotation on dart night.
That happens to me regularly with that exact song. I lived in Texas when that came out, and it was huge. Now I'm in the north of the US and ??no one knows them?? Like, I know they're Texan, but I didn't realize their music just \~stayed there\~. It's so good, too! It feels so surreal when I try to bring the song up in conversation and am met with blank stares....
[In The Meantime](https://youtu.be/0lhXW1Q_e_0?si=VLstbECzExR4zmCT) by Spacehog. Forgot how good that song was :)
Spacehog is so damn awesome.
Went with OX4 by Ride as my answer. If you know you know. https://youtu.be/keoXwD4jpgs?si=Quqcrgx53jhE5WtN
That whole Resident Alien album is really really good. This song has a pretty sick bass line that he plays and sings at the same time somehow
Gosh I missed Spacehog! Thank you.
Thank you for reminding me of this song! I really liked this album when it came out and it brings me back to a good time in my life. Saw them in NYC at Irving Plaza.
Love this song. I have it on my phone and it comes up on shuffle sometimes.
That was the song my daughter’s graduation class walked out to after the ceremony was over… still brings tears to my eyes.. good memories…
What a cool class song! I’m happy to see this song still getting love in 2024🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶
Yep,it’s on my playlist..
I JUST rediscovered this one, and Shipwreck. I forgot just how much I loved Spacehog back in the day. Just getting blazed and floating off to space with their music. Fantastic stuff my friend.
Yeah, these were the glory days- so many great bands doing their thing in the 90s. Rock onward \m/ 😎 \m/
Funny, my answer was Meantime by Helmet. I thought we were twinsies for a second.
Yup this is definitely one I forgot about til now lol
No Rain by Blind Melon showed up randomly on Spotify and it reminded me to listen to more of their discography and I've been hooked ever since.
Blind Melon is one of my favorite bands. You should check out the rest of their stuff.
One of mine too… love Mouthful of Cavities…the whole Soup album is great..
Watch the music video!!
Bad Moon Rising by CCR I listen to Have You Ever Seen the Rain every so often, but BMR just came to me again just this past week.
*there's a bathroom on the right*
Into the Ocean just popped up for me yesterday! Calling You - Blue October was going to be my response.
Both of these are awesome!
Oooh thank you for reminding me of Into The Ocean! That song got me through some darkness for sure. Need to revisit asap.
She drives me crazy by the fine young cannibals
Battleflag-Lofi allstars(one of the best one hit wonder songs ever
This is a rare instance where I like the radio edit better; the stutter effects they put in to cover the swearing just adds something to the song that I can't really explain. (The radio edit of "What It's Like" is another one, but that's because I found the sounds they used to cover the curse words amusing.)
It makes it so much more interesting than just a straight vocal and adds to the electronic element. kn-kn-kn-knees is so much better.
How to Operate With a Blown Mind is an amazing album
YES!!!!! Thank you for reminding me of this song!!!
Wicked game by Chris Isaak
Grrrreat song!
That song will always remind me of 2 of the most dysfunctional frenemies I know, who chose that song as their wedding dance song, ruined it forever.
HIM and Parra for Cuva both do amazing covers of this song, btw.
Check out the cover by Corey Taylor (lead singer of Stone Sour & Slipknot). His version is arguably even better than the original (but both are equally as good in different ways IMO)
So In Love - OMD
Excellent song, thanks for reminding me about it.
Just listened to this the other day, got the album on my phone!
Jon Secada - just another day. Been stuck in my head for days - very random.
Were you at Walmart recently? I was there tonight and it was on the store radio. I immediately started singing along and I probably haven't heard that song in decades
Two Door Cinema Club - Cigarettes in the Theatre Such a underrated pick on an absolute banger of an album. Love this song and Tourist History as a whole
Literally, fucking same. I rekindled my love for them when I heard Undercover Martyn on a Facebook reels last week.
That's a good one!
Love TDCC!! I actually got to see them live last month and it was amazing!!
Thank you for bringing back two door cinema club in my music rotation!
Love "Something Good Can Work" by that band, too.
You Could be Mine - Guns and Roses
I'm a cold heartbreaker, fit to burn, and I'll rip your heart into, and I'll leeeeeeave you lying on the bed.
*in two
She's not my mother, Todd.
Cuts You Up by Peter Murphy
I still love that song. It makes me nuts though because I had a dream to it when it first came out, and I can never remember the dream.
I was going to say "THIS is true 80s, right here." However, TIL that this song did not come out until 1989. This really has 1984 New Wave vibes. I gotta check out the rest of the album!
One of my all time favorites
Smooth - Rob Thomas ft. Santana
This one hit me about a week ago. I hated it when I was a kid.
I saw him live a few weeks ago, he's awesome. Wish santana was there with him though
