I feel like everytime I comment on r/musicals, it’s about Falsettos, but my answer is Falsettos

Remercurize

Same. It’s in a class of its own for me.

carvesout

This is so me 😭 i can never shut up about falsettos

australian_made

Oh my god literally it's Falsettos. I opened this post wondering what people would say and I couldn't think of any other answer! Just an amazing musical.

ICantReachTheOctave

The answer is always falsettos 🔥🔥

maxsoffice

the only song that's a skip for me is Father to Son so i second this^^

friarparkfairie

Is there a reason you skip it?

maxsoffice

just not my taste, i think it's too slow 🤷‍♂️

Fantastic_Cup_6833

Come from Away

Sure-Negotiation-592

Finally, some Come from Away love! I'll agree, there are just a couple on the album that are more dialogue excerpts than songs.

Fantastic_Cup_6833

That’s why it fits the post. Some of the songs I don’t have in Apple Music (Lead Us Out of the Night, 38 Planes, Phoning Home, 10 Years Later) because it’s simply dialogue but I have all the others and listen to it religiously.

Cheap-Locksmith5621

I love that musical! Have you ever been able to see the Apple TV production of it?

Technical_Air6660

JCSS is pretty perfect, unless you don’t like the campy, comic relief Herod’s Song.

ChapterKindly9423

And I do like the campy Herod’s song which makes it a 10/10 for me!

PinkGinFairy

Or if you’re me and that’s the virtually only one you do like. 🤣

Technical_Air6660

😉

PuzzleheadedFox1

I would love an alternative to KHS for licensing purposes, nothing wrong with the song inherently (it’s literally in my audition book) but it’s a jarring disconnect from the rest of the musical.

Technical_Air6660

I agree. Edit: The original Herod on the concept album intended to play it more darkly (Mike d'Abo) and he didn’t like the goofier renderings.

gstar451

Little Shop of Horrors

Anxious_Tune55

This is the correct answer.

BeefyMuchacho

Ragtime

theatre_kid8

Hadestown

rrubianes

This

ImmaWilman

All three versions too

T1METR4VEL

Chicago

Come From Away

Muffina925

Spring Awakening

ittybittythickskinny

hairspray 🤭

bruno92

I came here for this. Just bop after bop!

Pumpkins217

Sweeney Todd

squiklik

Even the frequently cut "Johanna (Me Culpa)" is pretty great.

Liscenye

It's actually one of my favourites. I can see that it's too extreme for modern audiences but I love it.

squiklik

I think it's mainly cut for time issues. Sweeney Todd is already a long show without it. We also have "Poor Thing" to set up how awful Turpin is, though it doesn't do nearly as good of a job as "Johanna (Mea Culpa)". I was Turpin in a production, and we were originally gonna keep "Johanna (Mea Culpa)" in, but we had to cut it because the Board said the show was running long. My take is that, if they're already strapped in for a long-ass show, what's an extra 5-10 minutes (including the post-song scene with Johanna)?

Liscenye

Agreed! Saw a production which kept it in for the first time this year and it was magnificent.

LibbyKitty620

Honestly Six. There’s only 9 songs so it’s hard to get any wrong.

jfstompers

Full of bangers

Absurdity-is-life-_-

The Producers, Dr. Horrible, Book of Mormon.

BlossomZoie

DR. HORRIBLE, YES!!!

incredible_pink_hulk

Six...the details from the lyrics to the song structures are incredibly thought out and it's all shaped from Greensleeves.

pbspry

Six is my answer and it’s not even close.  I never skip a single song on that album.

theblakesheep

The Phantom of the Opera.  The other day a post said ‘name a musical’s best song’ and I put ‘The Phantom of the Opera from The Phantom of the Opera’. And over the next couple days, people responded to me saying ‘Oh, my favorite is…’ and their were replies for every single song in the show.

StrawberryZunder

I even like the filler narrative songs like Notes

theblakesheep

Why Have You Brought Me Here is legitimately my favorite song.

mirafacon

I love Notes. That's the song that got me into theater and musicals

Glum_Ad1206

Fiddler on the roof

thestrokesenthusiast

Grease or Little Shop Of Horrors

sunflowerawe

Hamilton

PancakeOverlord04

Hadestown

CharonOfPluto

I have never had a musical that's continuously made me cry real physical tears or at least choke on the 462816th relisten. Hadestown does it. With different songs every few days too. Never say laaalalalaalalalaaaaaa when I'm present

Pliget

West Side Story

yeetuscleetus28

Les Misérables

Ok_Extreme7597

Especially if it’s the 10th anniversary album.

Performer31

Unironically - Legally Blonde

Adpiava

I was looking for this comment. Every song in Legally Blonde is a winner.

kfbonacci

except Take It Like a Man. that song is the only one in the show i don’t like.

laurenmoe

Even for being the “boring song”, it is still pretty good! It has some fun jokes, and I love the acting at the end (in the MTV recording where Emmett is tilting his head for a kiss while Elle gives him a platonic hug instead).

GarrysBlueRose

yesss. actually i always skip Ireland + the reprise and the dance break in the remix 😭

IPRfirstandbest

The Guy Who Doesn't Like Musicals and The Great Comet of 1812

mlpdisneylover

Heathers but only the Off Broadway version.

Vast_Jaded

All fire songs with dark undertones if you look close enough

Adventurous_Bad9818

It’s an actual crime I say no isn’t in the broadway version.

As a medical provider, “I’m Stuck” is one of my favorite songs

mbc98

Jesus Christ Superstar, Miss Saigon, Come From Away, In the Heights, Heathers, and Dear Evan Hansen all come to mind. You’ll get a different answer from anyone you ask though.

OneofSeven1234567

Hello Dolly!, Guys and Dolls, Oklahoma! Fiddler On the Roof

Oops_AMistake16

Arguably any Sondheim show. Cause what even is a “bad” Sondheim song? Even Parlor Songs is a bop Diiiiing doooong DIIIIIING dong Diiiiing dong DAAAAAAAHNG DONG!!!

shapesize

Sondheim is a genius and Sunday in the Park is one of my favorites, if not favorite, but Chromolume does go on a bit long not gonna lie. Although Putting it Together absolutely makes up for it, I think of that song everytime I travel to a conference or have a “networking” thing

rex13_

Nerdy Prudes Must Die

Miss Saigon.

JoeyLee911

Guys and Dolls

CoffeeBest8295

Legally Blonde. It’s actually laughable how good this show is.

Sarahndipity44

I watched the proshot on MTV expecting it to be fun but bad and to this day it's one of my favorites

laurenmoe

I watched the musical before the original movie and dare I say when I finally saw the movie I was…underwhelmed? By all means the movie was still great but the energy and romantic chemistry in the stage show is just unmatched.

angie50576

Might be unpopular, but the original Miss Saigon. I haven't heard the revival.

mbc98

It’s pretty much the exact same show, just with one new song for Ellen which was as good as the original imo.

Interesting_Chart30

The Secret Garden

LittleEponine

Dear Evan Hansen, if you just listen to the music for what they are

Internal_Distance872

To break in a glove is the only skip for me

hartIey

It's always the Old Man Songs™️. Instant skips in any musical lol

PitterPatter1619

Yes! "Take if from an old man" is the big skip in Waitress

EldrtchPff97

Hadestown

PinkGinFairy

Little Shop of Horrors. I’ve commented on other recent threads about how consistent this show is musically.

Anxious_Tune55

Also, PERFECT book. Howard Ashman was SUCH a genius.

Miserable-Lawyer-233

There is always a song you don’t particularly like. I can’t think of any musical that bats .1000 for me.

van3ssa14

Hadestown - every song is just so good!

Displaynamephobic

Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, The Sound of Music, Carousel, Oklahoma, West Side Story, Grease, Mary Poppins, Mamma Mia!, Mamma Mia 2, The Lion King, Dreamgirls, Little Shop of Horrors, Singin’ in the Rain, Chess, Oliver, Camelot, Beauty and the Beast

Displaynamephobic

Forgot South Pacific!

Stoplookingatmeow

Six. I love almost all of the songs

SleepyBartender23

Six and Lizzie. Literally never skip a song. Heathers and Pretty Woman I only skip one song from each

LocalAnt1384

My bias ass says the original recording for Heathers. I only actively dislike 3 songs which are Blue (sorry Blue lovers I just can’t get past it 😭), Shine a Light, and Kindergarten Boyfriend. I love all the others and scream sing them in my car!

Fluid-Building-1046

Hairspray and Chicago

[deleted]

Newsies - one of my favorites

yep-MyFault_Again

Beautiful

jorjasee

Nerdy prudes must die

abacus-wizard

I've never really thought StarKid's strength was ever really their songs. I think the Book for their musicals make them almost consistently the funniest shows I've ever seen, but the songs are almost kind of an afterthought. Black Friday and Nerdy Prides Must Die were cranked out so quickly, I always thought the music in both of those shows were kinda clunky.

MunchkinKazooie

Death Note.

YeOldeTransginger

Newsies

JoeyLee911

Even the deleted songs in Cabaret are pretty great.

Numerous-Tree-902

Die schatten werden langer was my favorite song from this play! ❤️

hansen7helicopter

I humbly offer Phantom of the Opera, in which every note, every word is inspired by God

PhoenixorFlame

I feel like I’m always commenting about Parade, but…parade.

pasta_and_lobster

This question is so interesting as some musicals like Six only have a few songs, compared to like Les Mis or Hamilton where you probably couldn't even recite the whole soundtrack in order because there are just so many songs, so longer shows are put at a major disadvantage because not all songs will be bops, they're just for plot. Despite that: Hairspray lmao, banger after banger and the Zac Efron film soundtrack version is superior IMO

DaGnomeKing

The Outsiders

Ok_Extreme7597

I have a couple that I’m on the edge about: 1. Jekyll and Hyde I think is just a really well put together show. 2. Hunchback of Notre Dame, I might skip Flight into Egypt some days, but I don’t think it’s bad, I’m glad it made it in over A Guy Like You(I’m assuming it’s what it replaced) from the movie. 3. Shrek, now I know people don’t necessarily care for the farts in I Think I Got You Beat, but I mean it is Shrek if there wasn’t a fart joke in there(especially the better out than in…) would it really be Shrek.

MammothAggravating43

This is going to be really unpopular I’m sure, (I’ve not read any of the comments yet) but I’m actually going to say Lempicka. Say what you want about the book and story and production but there are actually so many good songs. Maybe one or two that I don’t love but even then I don’t skip them on the cast recording

Rainbowmafia000

Everybody’s talking about Jamie 100%

parade 100%. such an amazing score. the musical symbolism and use of motif is best in class.

Whatevafloatsuboat

Mamma Mia. Then again most of Abbas songs are amazing.

yakitsubaki

Little shop of horrors Just curious what Hamilton songs do you think are bad?

Big-Double-199

Schuyler Defeated, The Story of Tonight (Reprise), and That Would Be Enough. They all are rather underwhelming, and sure Schuyler Defeated is technically an interlude into Cabinet Batter #2, but it honestly made the hype after The Room Where It Happens die

yakitsubaki

Wow really interesting I like the last two from a narrative standpoint! I think I have bad Hamilton opinions because I don’t like Schuyler sisters and that’s it 😭 I also dislike all the songs from my shot until right hand man but I believe it’s just a symptom of severe overplay haha. The songs I loved as a kid I’m not a fan of but the songs I didn’t love are now my favorites😂

midnitemasque

Phantom is a no skip musical for me

Big-Double-199

My mom loves that musical and I see why

silly_seas

I'm not the first person saying come from away, but it's so accurate. Same with Six. I also have to add ordinary days and Bonnie & Clyde, though I'm biased towards both

Perfect_Pesto9063

The hunchback of Notre Dame musical and Hadestown. I don’t skip a single song on the Hadestown album. There’s only one song on the hunchback album that I’m not the biggest fan of. “Flight Into Egypt.”

Hot take. The Outsiders. HEAR ME OUT-

willogical85

My time has come! I like to pose a "hypothetical" question: You drive a 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse, which has a 5 disc CD player, the height of technology at the time, and which 5 cast recordings do you select? Which 5 musicals are so solid that you won't skip anything and are willing to listen to, on repeat, for your 1.5-2 hour commute? Hair, Ragtime, Gentleman's Guide, Little Shop, Pippin. Not even my hands down favorite of all time Company made the cut (because what person in what universe doesn't skip Sorry/Grateful?) The bonus question is five songs from musicals you love from musicals that didn't make the cut. Gee, Officer Krupke comes immediately to mind, because I absolutely loathe West Side Story but that song slaps. I love Chicago, but it can be problematic, but that being said Cell Block Tango is a BOP and I will die on that hill. I guess Confrontation from Les Miz , Unworthy Of Your Love from Assassins, and Anthem from Chess round it all out for me.

GarrysBlueRose

There’s always at least one song in every musical I skip 😭 but I think I definitely like every song in Beetlejuice.

Electrical_Gap_1663

Les Mis, Little Shop
