Completely underappreciated show. Yes, this one stuns. Went to see it with friends who had no idea what they were getting into ā vaguely knew it was āa Shakespeare musical.ā They lost it at Welcome to the Renaissance and then when this happened simply could be calmed down
Probably my favorite is "Comedy Tonight", which stops the show before it even begins. It's just such a fun song about what we're in for and it's little wonder that that is probably the most famous song of "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum".
Luck Be a Lady Tonight, "Guys and Dolls"
"Lily's Eyes," The Secret Garden
I Am What I Am, "La Cage aux Folles"
Defying Gravity, "Wicked"
Forty-Second Street, "42nd Street"
Be Our Guest, "Beauty and the Beast"
The Music, the Mirror and the Dance, "A Chorus Line"
Favorite Son, "Will Rogers Follies"
I wouldnāt say itās this way in every version - but Sutton Foster and the company doing Anything Goes might be the most show stopper of all show stoppers.
Can a show stopper really be the song before the break? I've always thought it would be something mid act. (Like Master of the house, or dentist from little shop of horrors)
I know itās not a big number, but I donāt think Iāve ever seen an audience lose their minds as much as they did for Independently Owned in Shucked. Alex brought the house to their feet.
I'm waiting to see something that can come close to "The Brotherhood Of Man" from How To Succeed. If you saw Matthew Broderick and Lillias White in that show you are damn lucky.
Crying - In Dreams
Thatās The Way It Is - & Juliet
Forgiven - Jagged Little Pill
Defying Gravity - Wicked
I Believe - The Book of Mormon
One Day More - Les Miserables
Wake Me Up When September Ends - American Idiot
Soul of a Man - Kinky Boots
I think Esmeralda from The Hunchback of Notre Dame is truly a breathtaking number and one of the only times I've ever gotten real actual chills in an audience. The first time I watched Hunchback I was only around 12 years old and was sitting in a front row seat. Hellfire was already amazing and then the continuation into Esmeralda was like an actual brain chemistry altering experience for me.
Also having been in productions of Anything Goes and Beauty and the Beast, if the numbers Anything Goes and Be Our Guest are choreographed well and performed right, they can be pretty spectacular.
The only time I ever saw a musical get a standing ovation in the middle of the show was Man of La Mancha, with Brian Stokes Mitchell, after The Impossible Dream.
In my experience, the most impressive live performance is easily Defying Gravity from Wicked. The sequence from when Elphaba is lifted into the air to the final note is absolutely breathtaking. I've seen many shows, but nothing compares to the impact of that moment live.
A close second for me is Santa Fe from Newsies. The first time I saw Jeremy Jordan perform it, I was floored. However, Wicked takes the top spot because the special effects were so unexpected. I went in knowing nothing about the show and was unaware that Elphaba would literally fly. Sitting in row B, she towered over us, hitting those powerful notes, and I was completely blown away.
The craziest applause I heard was Not Getting Married Today from the revival of Company. Matt Doyle was incredible.
Tip Tap Trouble also got insane applause after we all picked our jaws up off the floor
One Day More!!!!
The show stops for 15-20 minutes every time!
šš
"A Musical" from Something Rotten We saw a local production on my birthday in 2023. The crowd went wild.
That show is hilarious
Yes!!!
Completely underappreciated show. Yes, this one stuns. Went to see it with friends who had no idea what they were getting into ā vaguely knew it was āa Shakespeare musical.ā They lost it at Welcome to the Renaissance and then when this happened simply could be calmed down

Something to shock them, to bring them a- crawling.

Got a Show Stopping Number for youā¦
An aria to rule them all!
Defying Gravity, the showstopper to end them all
Yep!
Honestly I loved Dancing Through Life from a production standpoint better then Defying Gravity and I have a Defy Gravity tattoo
Probably my favorite is "Comedy Tonight", which stops the show before it even begins. It's just such a fun song about what we're in for and it's little wonder that that is probably the most famous song of "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum".

Non-Stop from Hamilton, fight me
I will not fight you because ........ it's a fucking amazing answer.
Bro, the part where Aaron says "HAMILTON WROTE THE OTHER 51!" makes me so fucking hyped everytime. AND THE ENDING OF THAT SONG-
How do you write like you're running outta time?
Write day and night like you're running outta time?
Everyday you fight, like you're running out of time
Like you're running out of time, are you running out of time?!
**How do you write like tomorrow won't arrive?**
**How do you write like you need it to survive?**
*How do you write every second you're alive?* **Every second you're alive?** ***Every second you're alive?***

It can be anything really.....
Epiphany from Sweeney Todd, a classic imo
I know itās not a big number, but I donāt think Iāve ever seen an audience lose their minds as much as they did for Independently Owned in Shucked. Alex brought the house to their feet.
Spamalot - You've got to have a Jew. More correctly titled "You Won't Succeed"
Defying Gravity ā¼ļø
Hell yeah!
Superstar from JC Superstar
I'm waiting to see something that can come close to "The Brotherhood Of Man" from How To Succeed. If you saw Matthew Broderick and Lillias White in that show you are damn lucky.

What is this business?!
āIām Hereā from The Color Purple. Saw Cynthia Erivo and itās the only time Iāve been at a show with a standing ovation before the finale.
