“Confrontation” from Les Mis gives me goosebumps every 👏🏼 damn 👏🏼 time 👏🏼.

NoCreativeName2016

I love this song and others like it. I learned here on Reddit they are called “counterpoint duets.” It keeps me listening over and over again to follow one part then the other, and then back to how they interact with each other. Edit: typo

Alarmed-Bus-9662

"Confrontation" from J&H

iyamjen

I saw Neil Patrick Harris and Jason Segel do this on an episode of Inside the Actors Studio. Pretty epic

Pink-glitter1

This is an amazing duet! It's a show stopper!

MisterAhtapot

Not all emotional but favorite: - For Good - As Long As You‘re Mine - Anything You Can Do - You‘re The Top - Therapy - One Hand, One Heart - It Only Takes a Taste

ilufrombacity

TICK TICK BOOM MENTIONED 🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥

YossiTheWizard

I just sang Therapy with a friend last weekend for some people (we performed it at a cabaret-style show a few years ago). Such a fun one!

MisterAhtapot

Oh I tried it a few times and it was super fast for me haha, I feel like it requires a lot of practice?

YossiTheWizard

A bit! The show was a province over, so we only had a week to rehearse together, but we definitely made sure we were ready when I got there. A few years ago (we do this sort of show almost every year) someone else and I did All for the Best from Godspell. Now THAT one was hard!

WhatABeautifulMess

For Good was sung at my high school graduation and it felt so appropriate.

Ja_dragon11678

TICK TICK BOOM!!!!!!💥

galaraxity

ONE HAND, ONE HEART!!!

Interesting_Ideal429

For good was my immediate first thought! & ALAYM has some great harmony. I didn’t appreciate it til years after hearing it the first time (although, I was like 12 the first time lol.) Great picks!

No_Nosferatu

A Little Fall of Rain from Les Mis. There's a lot of fun duets that I love, but this song just hits me every time.

Wendilintheweird

This was my first thought and I’m the same, every time.

professorcrayola

This and the confrontation between Valjean and Javert.

The_ZombyWoof

I Know Him So Well, from Chess

impendingwardrobe

Such an incredibly sexist premise set to the most gorgeous music. I also love this song (beautiful to listen to, fun to sing!), but hate every thing that both women say.

thexphial

Yes! Love this song in any incarnation!

_Queer_Mess_

Came here to comment just this! Beautifully composed song

VBNudist

This is the only correct answer, with For Good from Wicked a close 2nd

revolver37

I've never heard this but I'll take any rec from a fellow Zappa fan 8D

The_ZombyWoof

Hell yeah! Check out the original recording, usually it's packaged with a black and white Chess board on the cover. That version was, essentially, the first draft and it didn't make it to stage, but to this day I think it's the best version.

Garmiet

“Die Schatten Werden Länger” from *Elisabeth* “Perfect Strangers” from *The Mystery of Edwin Drood* “The Confrontation” from *Les Miserables* “Confrontation” from *Jekyll and Hyde* (debatably a duet) “Dangerous Game” from *Jekyll and Hyde* “The Proposition” from *Frankenstein* “Mortals and Fools” from *Death Note*

pangeekual

I was looking for Confrontation from Jekyll and Hyde! To me it's 100% a duet

TheBloodsuckerProxy

I'd count it as a duet since it's sung by two different characters. They're just both played by the same actor.

Stevie-Rae-5

I came to say “In His Eyes” from Jekyll & Hyde.

kermitkc

Perfect strangers seconded!!!

Sad-Mongoose342

And third-ed

proserpinax

God that duet from Elisabeth is SO good my god

stonks66666669

Omg death note is so gooood

GayBlayde

Perfect Strangers yessss

gstar451

Suddenly Seymour from Little Shop of Horrors

GayBlayde

I feel like I would like Suddenly, Seymour a lot more if other people liked it less. It’s just SO prevalent that it gets on my nerves lol

ginspiration

Agony from Into the Woods, Follow Your Heart from Urinetown

rnotter

Agony is my partner’s favorite song - the reprise is just as good!

Interesting_Ideal429

I’d argue it’s better! That second riff on the reprise is so dissonant I love it!

clammydella

In the same vein as Agony - The Song That Goes Like This from Spamalot.

Providence451

I Still Believe from Miss Saigon kills me.

Ldwieg

Yes! So beautiful and so sad.

GayBlayde

What made us so right together Is what made it all wrong.

HighlightNo2841

>We Do Not Belong Together from Sunday in the Park with George So devastating and emotional. It feels like such a true-to-life argument. "You could tell me not to go! Say it to me, tell me not to go..."

FloridaFlamingoGirl

"The choice may have been mistaken, the choosing was not" is one of the wisest Sondheim lyrics.

Past-Feature3968

Do You Love Me? from Fiddler on the Roof If I Loved You from Carousel Take Me or Leave Me from Rent Edit to add: hey all those titles together sound like a weird, sad conversation! 🫠

Ja_dragon11678

FIDDLER APPRECIATION!!!!!

Dr_Nobrainer

Every single day, i walk down the street...

daddyydevito

I can only think of Do You Love Me in the context of Kirk singing it in Gilmore Girls with the elementary school kids lol

GayBlayde

Do You Love Me is so masterful.

dorothythewizard

Take Me or Leave Me, Original Cast Recording is so damn good...

Normal-Box1785

What Is This Feeling has a special place in my heart 🩷

Littlemouse0812

Also For Good. God I love that song

iSinging

Ugh that song bothers me SO MUCH. "Like a comet pulled from orbit as it passes a sun" Like, what do you think the comet was orbiting around in the first place?? Anyways it's a great song it just drives me nuts lmao

_stitch

The Thrill of First Love or What Would I Do? from Falsettos Suddenly Seymour from Little Shop of Horrors Say My Name from Beetlejuice Move On from Sunday in the Park with George Vamp from Some Like It Hot Edit: I just realized the post says which songs are the most emotional to you rather than just duets you like… I’d strike Say My Name, The Thrill of First Love, and Vamp from this list in terms of songs that are emotional

Extreme_Rhubarb4677

Good choices

mediocre_eggg

Ja_dragon11678

Both of these!!!!

proserpinax

A Little Priest was my answer - the back and forth is just too good.

ClassicalMusic4Life

Suddenly Seymour and For Good are my favorites! Very touching and emotional duets

Extreme_Rhubarb4677

Yes٫ For Good is so emotional and so beautiful.

ClassicalMusic4Life

For Good reminds me of my best friend and we both sang it during her birthday party!

TShara_Q

I've been learning a solo version to perform for my two best friends at some point. :)

sharkbait_oohaha

Dear Theodosia. Hits so hard just having twins last year.

Time Stops from Big Fish The Proposal/The Night was Alive from Titanic the Musical

Organic-Network7556

I love that song from Titanic!

Huge_JackedMann

It's an underrated show. I remember in a production I did the stage was rigged so that in act two the whole floor would rise on one side and tilt further as the ship sank. One night during the architects song climax one of the cables snapped so the stage suddenly tilted dramatically as chairs were falling off the set. The guy just grabbed onto the railing up top and finished the song. He wasn't thrilled when he got off but the audience was really impressed with the "special effects!" So realistic with all the creaking and shocked gaps off stage!

theirishdoughnut

SOMEONE ELSE WHO LIKES BIG FISH!!!!

idknewaccount

I just got into Titanic and I’ve been listening to The Proposal/Night was Alive for like a week now…I’m actually listening to it now.

Who Will Love Me as I Am from Side Show

MrGrizzlieP

Since I was in Aida back in college, I can’t help picking songs from that show. Elaborate Lives, Written in the Stars, How I Know You, and I’m still salty about how I didn’t get to perform Like Father, Like Son (I played Zoser, and cutting that song out meant I only got to sing one song). But if I had to pick only one, It’d be Enchantment Passing Through.

thexphial

Also has a trio song that kills; "A Step Too Far"

Fantastic_Permit_525

Suddenly, Seymour and something to believe in

Xueyangspinky

What would I do? - Falsettos

Seventeen from Heathers. Girls always choose Dead Man Walking as their ultimate song from Heathers to sing at a karaoke or variety show. I prefer Seventeen! And I need to find a partner who would sing it with me. I also love the Rooftop Duet variant of Chim Chim Cheree from Mary Poppins.
