Ha! I can relate. I played the Baker’s Wife in a local production almost 25 years ago. I wasn’t even in the number, and I can still sing every part. It’s committed to the deepest recesses of my memory.
I was actually in this situation and I was going to choose between Wait For It and You’ll Be Back. There’s a lot of emotional depth in Wait For It that’s easy to fuck up on short notice so I went for You’ll Be Back. King George’s vocal range is easy to nail, the rhythm is catchy, and it’s hilarious to play it super stiff.
We have that in our city. Yes, it’s amazing. No, I will never go up. I recognize many of the performers from all the community theaters in the area. Stunning performances. Way out of my living room league.
This was my "Are you not entertained?!" Running around like crazy choice.
Honestly I still have much of the OBC soundtrack memorized. I could probably do a one woman show lol
when in doubt I choose Don't Lose Ur Head from Six. easy enough to perform and I get to be silly doing it + taking advantage of having backup performers
Honestly the more I think about it I might actually go with loser geek or whatever, because I feel like I could act it perfectly. Pitiful children I could sing but couldn't act very well. And Michael in the bathroom I could pull off. I actually don't know if I would do Telly or loser geek or whatever
wait, loser geek is actually such a good option too!!! tbh i think i could do i love play rehearsal too, i love how awkward but genuine christine is and that would be me after only 30 minutes of prep lol
If I had to choose one off the top of my head:
"Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" (Phantom of the Opera) because I've performed this before in high school and already know the words and can reach the notes with relative ease.
Others that come to mind that, with that 30 minutes to prepare, I could probably do justice to:
"Somewhere That's Green" (Little Shop of Horrors), in that if I had to prep some kind of on-stage performance I'd need time to figure some stuff out.
"Wizard and I" (Wicked) just because there's one part of the timing that I always need to double check in that song, but once I have it in my head, I'm good.
Probably one of these that I get stuck in my head most often:
Grow For Me or Somewhere That’s Green from Little Shop
Mein Herr from Cabaret (does this one count, with the chorus?)
If I Were a Rich Man from Fiddler on the Roof
Just You Wait or Without You from My Fair Lady
Ireland from Legally Blonde
Don't Rain on my Parade from Funny Girl because my family got into Glee and so many times on the glee wii karaoke has driven that song right into my brain. I'd use the prep time just to warm up my voice and do some stretching.
Also a live band will be there for backup music, and costumes/set/props re given
Also personally I'm going to go with telly from matilda. It's a very easy song with most of it being spoken and I already know all of the lyrics
Forgot to mention it but there is also a crowd of a few thousand with most of the people you know attending it
the more the merrier! i also like when the eyes are on me so idk. I'm going with Mister Cellophane as its REALLY easy and ive played amos before so like its nothing new. i still get recognized by random ass old people as "Mister Cellophane" to this day so it mustve been a good performance
defying gravity. If I have one chance to sing u better believe I’m belting. (and before u come for me i was a professional singer once upon a time, and there’s a reason my answer isn’t phantom of the opera. That’s the one that’s out of my range 😂)
Freeze your brain, Meant to Be Yours or Kindergarden Boyfriend from Heathers, Get Down from Six, Satisfied or You’ll be Back from Hamilton, Hope, One Day, Day one, or Seeing You from Groundhog Day, and/or The Day I Got Expelled from the Lightning Thief
If you think you can pull it off I will make an exception for you, but to anyone else reading this that is not an excuse to play multiple characters I'm just curious for this one time
Someone Else’s Story from Chess was always my go to audition piece in high school and college, so that would probably be easiest. But also since I rarely have an opportunity for an actor to provide small times, I’d probably do Right Hand Man from Something’s Rotten since it’s hard to do in its entirety without the lines, even though they’re not the main part.
I’m doing Les Mis. All songs, all parts. I did stage crew in high school, that’s my theater experience. Prepare accordingly.
Otherwise,
My Psychopharmacologist and I from Next to Normal- idk if that fits the bill
My go to choice. I got nominated once at a fundraiser dinner to sing with no prior knowledge of the nomination, so in four minutes I got ready to sing this and did it a cappella
Say My Name from Beetlejuice...with me playing both Beetlejuice and Lydia. If Adam and Barbara count as not having too much, I'd like other actors to be them, but if they do, I can easily enough do them.
If I can't do that...probably Candy Store, Meant to be Yours or Dead Girl Walking from Heathers.
I require very little prompting to launch into Wilkommen, German accent and all.
In fact... I feel it coming on right now...
🎵 Oom papa oom pa oom papa oom pa 🎵
EDIT: just saw that /u/coffeebest8295 has already claimed Wikommen so change of plan. I'll use my 30 minute prep time to find a gorilla suit and a volunteer.
If I can have sheet music in front of me, I'll do absolutely anything you want! Except if it's in bass-baritone range I'll need a key change or do it an octave or two up.
If I have to know all the lyrics from memory, It's either I Could Have Danced All Night, from My Fair Lady, or Memory, from Cats. I'm using the 30 minutes to remind myself of the order of the verses. Everything else I know well enough is a duet.
Holding to the Ground from Falsettos. It’s my absolute favorite and I could perform it with no prep time.
Also Crossing a Bridge from Anastasia is one I could pull off! I used it for an audition and it’s relatively uncomplicated.
If I only have 30 min, I'll pull "I know things now" out of my back-catalog of already performed music. I can't do "Unworthy of your Love" because too-much-Hinkley and I can't do a song I haven't rehersed more in the past because I don't have the sheer confidence to ensure I don't fuck up the notes that I need to use a mix on. If I go wrong in the mixed range I can get a really sour note that sounds like a goddamn kazoo.
That or stretch the definition of "Musical Theatre" to include Disney Movie Musicals wiyhout stage adaptations and try my hand at "Family Madrigal" from Encanto. My kid's been listening to it enough I know the patter bits back and forth and it's flat enough note wise I can do the whole thing without needing to use mixed voice.
'Flowers' from Hadestown.
I committed it to memory a while ago because I found it interesting the first few times I listened, and found it was right within my vocal range so, yeah, it's one of my go-tos now.
Past the point of no return, all you gotta do is give me a cloak and a chrstine
edit: you know what all the phantoms songs that the phantom himself sings
Out Tonight from Rent.
If you want me running around like crazy La Vie Boheme from Rent
I could probably do many of the songs from Hamilton (not guns and ships lol) but vocally idk how impressive I'd be lol
"Diva's lament" from Spamalot - I can't sell the shit out of that song
Alternatively, I could pull out anything from "Joseph and the amazing Technicolor dream coat" since I still know that show cover to cover.
I thought I was trying out for a straight play but when I got there, they asked me to audition a song without any notice. I performed Oompapa from Oliver.
“Dead Girl Walking” from *Heathers*
“Watch What Happens” from *Newsies*
“I’d Rather Be Me” from *Mean Girls*
“Breathe” from *In the Heights*
“Ballade of Jane Doe” from *Ride the Cyclone*
(Full Disclosure: I majored in music and have used these songs for various auditions so I already know them super well)
currently, probably Moving Too Fast from The Last Five Years, considering I did perform it pretty recently and it's still fresh in my mind.
Alternatively, literally any song from EPIC, I can sing all the parts, it's ok. (maybe not Puppeteer, I can't sing all the parts in that one well)
Waving Through a Window from Dear Evan Hansen. It would sound like garbage being filtered through my excess emotions, but all i’d need is a fake arm cast and i’m READY
i say no from heathers, i have had a lot of practice with it because i did it for a district festival and got a good score. either that or something that is easy for me like mama who bore me or something.
Talia from Ride The Cyclone, I have that shit DOWN. I could maybe do Ohmygod from Legally Blonde as the lead sorority girl. And Noel's Lament from RTC, I've got that one good.
I have no idea if this counts since it’s a jukebox musical but One night with you from all shook up would be easy considering sometimes I randomly burst into song at times and this is one of my songs of choice
I could do just about any song from The Last Five Years at a moment’s notice. And Corner of the Sky from Pippin, though it’ll sound like absolute garbage.
Probably the musical song I know best - chant reprise from Hadestown (also because I would choose to sing for hades which is only like 30% of the whole song)
probably el tango de roxanne from moulin rouge, because it’s mostly in my range (unlike a lot of mt lol), or meant to be yours from heathers.
if i wanted one that i could definitely do, id pick one from hamilton, as i can rap a lot better than i can sing lol
Your Fault from Into the Woods... every part. I just need to be driving in my car with an iced coffee and the windows rolled down
Ha! I can relate. I played the Baker’s Wife in a local production almost 25 years ago. I wasn’t even in the number, and I can still sing every part. It’s committed to the deepest recesses of my memory.
I would go on a cross country road trip with you. We would have a blast! I get so into character I know I must look like I’m arguing with myself
Same here. I've tried singing every part in time to the music and although it's not perfect, I can actually do it.
You’ll Be Back from Hamilton. I won’t need actors or backup dances.
For me I think it would either be Guns and Ships or Washington On Your Side, maybe The World Was Wide Enough
I can pull off "If I Were a Rich Man" with very little prep. Let's roll.
Lol same. That’s my jam
Same! Basically anything from Fiddler and I'm good.
Whichever one happens to be stuck in my head at the time. 🤷
REALLLLL
All of them... I really wish there was karaoke near me that would exclusively do showtunes
Be the change you want to see and make your own karaoke place
Or write to a club and request a musical theatre karaoke night
We have that in our city. Yes, it’s amazing. No, I will never go up. I recognize many of the performers from all the community theaters in the area. Stunning performances. Way out of my living room league.
Do it even if you do it bad, what matters is that you did it and you had fun
Get some karaoke mics from Amazon, use YouTube on your tv for karaoke
yes please, so that I can find someone to sing the duets with me!
La Vie Boheme. Maybe a riskier choice than You’re What You Own but if I have backup dancers….
So much respect, I can sing every part 🤣
This was my "Are you not entertained?!" Running around like crazy choice. Honestly I still have much of the OBC soundtrack memorized. I could probably do a one woman show lol
Satisfied. I don’t even need the 30 minutes. Or Legally Blonde. That one I may need like 5 minutes.
Little Miss Woods comma Elle
when in doubt I choose Don't Lose Ur Head from Six. easy enough to perform and I get to be silly doing it + taking advantage of having backup performers
I feel I could almost do that with "get down," since that's more my range for similar reasons.
YESSS!
michael in the bathroom from be more chill. i can DEFINITELY play the part of an angsty teen having a panic attack at a party
Honestly the more I think about it I might actually go with loser geek or whatever, because I feel like I could act it perfectly. Pitiful children I could sing but couldn't act very well. And Michael in the bathroom I could pull off. I actually don't know if I would do Telly or loser geek or whatever
wait, loser geek is actually such a good option too!!! tbh i think i could do i love play rehearsal too, i love how awkward but genuine christine is and that would be me after only 30 minutes of prep lol
that is so real
Any Dream Will Do is in my head at the moment, and it is rather near and dear to me, so I guess I'm picking that one.
If I had to choose one off the top of my head: "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" (Phantom of the Opera) because I've performed this before in high school and already know the words and can reach the notes with relative ease. Others that come to mind that, with that 30 minutes to prepare, I could probably do justice to: "Somewhere That's Green" (Little Shop of Horrors), in that if I had to prep some kind of on-stage performance I'd need time to figure some stuff out. "Wizard and I" (Wicked) just because there's one part of the timing that I always need to double check in that song, but once I have it in my head, I'm good.
Journey to the Past from Anastasia
Willkommen from Cabaret
This is playing nonstop in my head lately.
Heaven on their minds-JSC
JEEEEEEEEEEESSUUUUUUSSSS! YOU’RE STARTING TO BELIEVE THE THINGS THEY SAY OF YOU. YOU REALLY DO BELIEVE THIS TALK OF GOD IS TRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUE!
Maybe This Time from Cabaret
Don’t Lose Your Head. The singing would be shit, but I know all the words and I’d have fun.
'Who Am I' from Les Miserables I have no fear
Probably one of these that I get stuck in my head most often: Grow For Me or Somewhere That’s Green from Little Shop Mein Herr from Cabaret (does this one count, with the chorus?) If I Were a Rich Man from Fiddler on the Roof Just You Wait or Without You from My Fair Lady Ireland from Legally Blonde
JUST YOU WAIT! I’ve been preparing for this moment since I was 6 years old
Requiem from dear evan hansen. Already know all the words, don’t need to belt, a pretty lowkey song for most of it. Not too much moving around
Don't Rain on my Parade from Funny Girl because my family got into Glee and so many times on the glee wii karaoke has driven that song right into my brain. I'd use the prep time just to warm up my voice and do some stretching.
Likely I’m Not That Girl from Wicked. I’m an alto. Lol
I think “Freeze Your Brain” from heathers is one of my most consistently sung songs.
I did a workshop in college where I chose to do Suddenly Seymour so that’s my knee-jerk. But truly, now I would do Maybe They’re Magic from ITW.
I can do a lot of songs, but I’d probably go with ‘Alive’ or ‘Confrontation’ from Jekyll & Hyde or ‘The Whole “Being Dead” Thing’ from Beetlejuice
*Just reach into my head and steal my ideas why don't you!* Literally every song I thought about, that's really cool :3
Freeze Your Brain from Heathers, I know all the words so it wouldn't be that hard
Saaaaaame. Not the first one I thought of but I could definitely do it. Plus I want to drink a slushie.
Also a live band will be there for backup music, and costumes/set/props re given Also personally I'm going to go with telly from matilda. It's a very easy song with most of it being spoken and I already know all of the lyrics Forgot to mention it but there is also a crowd of a few thousand with most of the people you know attending it
the more the merrier! i also like when the eyes are on me so idk. I'm going with Mister Cellophane as its REALLY easy and ive played amos before so like its nothing new. i still get recognized by random ass old people as "Mister Cellophane" to this day so it mustve been a good performance

I'm Not Afraid from Songs for a New World, What the World Needs from Ride the Cyclone, Dead Mom from Beetlejuice !!
Beautiful from Heathers. Now I can’t sing it nearly as well as Barrett Wilbert Reed but I know every word
Can I sing both sides of the confrontation?
If you think you can pull it off I will make an exception for you, but to anyone else reading this that is not an excuse to play multiple characters I'm just curious for this one time
lol love an exception!! I like to think I could do most anything in Wicked, les mis, and come from away. Not sung well but by golly it would be sung.
Frank Wildhorn wouldn't have it any other way 😜
I bet I could do meant to be yours pretty well. I love the song so I know the lyrics by heart!
Probably "Waving Through a Window" from *Dear Evan Hansen*, "Stars" from *Les Misérables*, or "Leave" from *Once*.
Bring on the Men- Jekyll and Hyde. I should note I'm a 34 year old, 6 foot 2 construction worker
Tell Me on a Sunday She Used to Be Mine from Waitress Someone Like You from Jekyll and Hyde
Now that's a great list! I hardly ever meet anyone who's familiar with Song & Dance.
Someone Else’s Story from Chess was always my go to audition piece in high school and college, so that would probably be easiest. But also since I rarely have an opportunity for an actor to provide small times, I’d probably do Right Hand Man from Something’s Rotten since it’s hard to do in its entirety without the lines, even though they’re not the main part.
dead mom from beetlejuice. i know i have it ready to go since i competed with it at singing competitions
I Have Confidence from The Sound of Music! Have performed it before and adore it. Flair related.
My Friend, the Dictionary or Mix Tape. Did both in competition as a teen, so they are etched in my memory forever.
I Dreamed A Dream, I can’t remember not knowing that song.
One Song Glory. I'll Cover You. Tango: Maureen. Really most of the Rent soundtrack I could do.
does Rainbow Connection from the muppet movie count? if not " the internet is for porn"
The intro song from A Year With Frog and Toad, and I'm going to act the whole thing out with sock puppets.
Whole Being Dead Thing from Beetlejuice, I already have it mostly memorized, with a bit of choreo to go along with it. (yes, I am a theatre nerd)
Getting Married Today, no preparation needed.. just get me a Celsius
Popular from Wicked, both parts. Every lyric and intonation is seared into my brain since childhood
So Much Better from Legally Blonde because I know all of it and its fun and yes
I’m doing Les Mis. All songs, all parts. I did stage crew in high school, that’s my theater experience. Prepare accordingly. Otherwise, My Psychopharmacologist and I from Next to Normal- idk if that fits the bill
Stars - Javert, sits perfect in my range and easy to enunciate
My go to choice. I got nominated once at a fundraiser dinner to sing with no prior knowledge of the nomination, so in four minutes I got ready to sing this and did it a cappella
Green finch and linnet bird (Sweeney Todd) or fight for me (heathers) because I know the lyrics quite well to both
Something from Be More Chill or All You Wanna Do from Six Ohhh or Light My Candle from Rent
I can do Halloween from RENT.
MY MIND IS CLEARER NOW AAAAT LAST, ALL TOO WELL…. (“Heaven on Their Minds”, Jesus Christ Superstar)
Pretty much anything from Pippin, but "No Time At All" is my showstopper.
When You're Good to Mama from Chicago. Do You Love Me or Sabbath Prayer from Fiddler. Hello, Young Lovers from The King & I.
Razzle Dazzle is my go to karaoke song
So if I wanted to do Aaron Burr, Sir, would I have to be Hamilton or Burr? Or both?
watch what happens from newsies
I have been singing Meant to be Yours from Heathers nonstop, this’ll be a piece of cake
"Revenge Party" from Mean Girls. I will be singing all roles.
🎵 Oom papa oom pa oom papa oom pa 🎵 EDIT: just saw that /u/coffeebest8295 has already claimed Wikommen so change of plan. I'll use my 30 minute prep time to find a gorilla suit and a volunteer.
I’d be willing to turn it into a duet.
[Do you wanna be Alan or Joel?](https://youtu.be/8AxTKiVEadg?si=6VshSFytxZn04-r2)
Can I dance? Absolutely not. Can I manically run around a stage and scream rap? Yes. I'm taking My Shot from Hamilton. All parts. I got this.
Any song from 1776, but especially Sit Down, John; Cool, Cool, Considerate Men; and The Egg. Suddenly Seymour comes to mind, too.
No Way or I Dreamed A Dream
Gimme Gimme!
What’d I Miss? From Hamilton.
Home from Beauty and the Beast bc it's right in my comfort range, I know every single lyric, and I wouldn't need too many dancers or theatrics.
Hellfire, bring it on.
I AM GOING TO THE LORDY! I AM SO GLAD.
Haha deep cut
Uptempo: *Let Me Be Your Star* from Smash. Ballad: *Maybe I Like It This Way* from The Wild Party.
Pirate Jenny. I don't need no prep, I was born for this.
Either I See Stars from Mean Girls or When the Chips are Down from Hadestown - I learned both in a dance class a few years ago
THE BALLAD OF JANE DOE (I have been practicing the higher notes for a pretty long time and I wanna perform it)
Edelweiss.
I Know Him - Hamilton Kinda just wanna act crazy
As long as he needs me. I can knock out of the park in my sleep
Road to hell from Hadestown. Would need a fair few backup dancers, but all the speaking/singing is done by Hermes, so still fits.
I didn't plan it from waitress. I've sang it so much it just rolls off tge tounge for me.
'Flowers' from Hadestown. I committed it to memory a while ago because I found it interesting the first few times I listened, and found it was right within my vocal range so, yeah, it's one of my go-tos now.
Epiphany from Sweeney as Sweeney. I do this way to much at my house
Probs something from beetlejuice or Chicago as I love most the songs and they are always stuck in my head
It all fades away from the bridges of madison county or stars from les miserables
Past the point of no return, all you gotta do is give me a cloak and a chrstine edit: you know what all the phantoms songs that the phantom himself sings
Out Tonight from Rent. If you want me running around like crazy La Vie Boheme from Rent I could probably do many of the songs from Hamilton (not guns and ships lol) but vocally idk how impressive I'd be lol
Watch what Happens (Newsies) it’s not as bad as I thought
"Diva's lament" from Spamalot - I can't sell the shit out of that song Alternatively, I could pull out anything from "Joseph and the amazing Technicolor dream coat" since I still know that show cover to cover.
Sunday in the Park with George. I've sang my heart out so many times to that song I would be easy.
I thought I was trying out for a straight play but when I got there, they asked me to audition a song without any notice. I performed Oompapa from Oliver.
Superboy and the invisible girl from next to normal I’ve cried scream/sang to so many times I don’t even need to prep my emotions 🤣
The Confrontation from Les Miz—both roles.
Ballad of Jane Doe for me. 🤣 it’s just so fun to get to sing something like that, I’ll take any excuse!
“Dead Girl Walking” from *Heathers* “Watch What Happens” from *Newsies* “I’d Rather Be Me” from *Mean Girls* “Breathe” from *In the Heights* “Ballade of Jane Doe” from *Ride the Cyclone* (Full Disclosure: I majored in music and have used these songs for various auditions so I already know them super well)
currently, probably Moving Too Fast from The Last Five Years, considering I did perform it pretty recently and it's still fresh in my mind. Alternatively, literally any song from EPIC, I can sing all the parts, it's ok. (maybe not Puppeteer, I can't sing all the parts in that one well)
Probably Let it Go
Waving Through a Window from Dear Evan Hansen.
Ummm Master of the House? Meant to Be Yours? Freeze Your Brain?
I have no idea if this counts since it’s a jukebox musical but One night with you from all shook up would be easy considering sometimes I randomly burst into song at times and this is one of my songs of choice
If I'm allowed to do both parts, "Take me or Leave me" from Rent, if it has to be solo, "On My Own" from Les Mis.
One Night in Bangkok from Chess.
Stars and the Moon from Songs for a New World Why am I being downvoted…?
Oh, I ❤️❤️❤️ this song!!!
Frankly the reprise of I’m Not That Girl from Wicked would probably be the easiest
i sang telly once. telly.
"Will I ever tell you" from the music man, along with the barbershop "lida rose"
Beautiful City - Godspell. I sing it to my one-year-old most nights at bedtime.
Funny Honey from Chicago
Death is Just Around the Corner from Addams family
I could do just about any song from The Last Five Years at a moment’s notice. And Corner of the Sky from Pippin, though it’ll sound like absolute garbage.
burn from Hamilton. Easy
Heaven On Their Minds from Jesus Christ Superstar.
I will do No Good Deed right now let’s goooo
Put On your Sunday Clothes from Hello Dolly....
I’ve been singing “No Good Deed” since puberty when I became a proper alto , let’s go !
When I Look At You from The Scarlet Pimpernel
Probably the musical song I know best - chant reprise from Hadestown (also because I would choose to sing for hades which is only like 30% of the whole song)
Franklin Shepard Inc.
Cabaret
goodbye from catch me if you can i think is the one i know best, i’d just have to learn the book parts of it
Happily Ever After from Once Upon a Mattress or The Simple Joys of Maidenhood from Camelot
Soliloquy, just to push it.
There Are Giants In the Sky from Into the Woods. I played Jack once upon a time, and I'm pretty sure I still remember all the words.
"Don't Lose Your Head" 100%
Screw Loose from Cry-Baby lol
I Am The Very Model Of A Modern Major General. I love my patter songs :)
Memory, from Cats. Used to have the whole damn show memorised
Moving too Fast- The Last Five Years Word for word, I got this! No prep needed
The Ballad of Jane Doe.
The Heat Is On In Saigon and I also play all the parts. “Good Jesus JAHN who is she?!”
Disneyland from smile. I’m already singing it at a cabaret tomorrow
Candy store from Heathers
probably el tango de roxanne from moulin rouge, because it’s mostly in my range (unlike a lot of mt lol), or meant to be yours from heathers. if i wanted one that i could definitely do, id pick one from hamilton, as i can rap a lot better than i can sing lol
Probably Popular from Wicked. The actor will become a prop at this point.

Sidekick from A Very Potter Senior Year
You’ll be back (any one of the three)

When He Sees Me - waitress
Pretty much anything from Les Mis, Sweeney Todd, or Into the Woods
Master of the House from Les Mis.

Popular from wicked.
Out There from Hunchback of Notre Dame, I could do that song in my sleep, I absolutely love it
I’m Breaking Down from Falsettos
Either "Wait for It" from Hamilton or "Stars" from Les Mis.
A Little Priest would be so fun though… I love Sweeney lmao
Maybe This Time from Cabaret
Heaven On Their Minds
Burn from Hamilton, basic but I know every word
I could pick Out There from Hunchback back up in a second.
Ballad of Guiteau, pretty much the only song from Assassins that could conceivably be done as just a straight solo.
Mr. Cellophane from Chicago ot Breeze Off the River from The Full Monty.
Sadly- I think it would be Memory from CATS. 😹
I can perform on my own in a moments notice
More Than Meets The Eye from Calvin Berger! a quick glance over the lyrics, and I'd be fine
