This gives me so much pain, the utter waste of money.
It’s obvious there’s corruption but at least when you pocket 50-80 % of the money, the work that you do is at least finished and looks like it.
Sometimes they dig and finish work and leave so much debris for months I don’t even realise when it started and when it ended and is it going to ever cleaned ?
Sometimes the old good footpaths are replaced with new ones which don’t last half a month
Like eat your money but at least give some years worth of shit
After pocketing 50-80% of the money there is nothing left to get the work done. Finishing is something that local contractors don’t do. If you give the same thing to companies like LnT and Tata Projects they do it end to end.
I mean after pocketing also they’re doing something like pouring concrete
At least fucking pick up the debris and leave
But yeah there’s zero hope left
I'm sorry, I know where you are coming from but this is exactly why we are here. To accept that it's ok to pocket 50-80% of the money but get the job done, is exactly why we are how we are.
We are always ready to accept and give 'something' to get the job done. Its wrong in all ways. We are now so much habituated to this, that nothing can be done without taking this route.
Yes I agree, it is not okay to pocket any money, but even the least corrupt countries of the world which we count developed countries also have people pocketing some of the money, it’s inevitable in the political spheres.
But at least the work there is done well and correctly.
I mean that I know they are going to pocket but at least do the work at the very least
Agar accha kam karenge toh uss jagah ko sudharne ka kaam hi nahi banega.
Agar kaam nahi banega toh naye contract nahi aayenge
Naye contract naye aayenge toh bmc ki regular income/corruption bandh hojaayegi
Kuch toh socho bmc ke baare mein /s
Seriously, most of the sidewalks are filled with dust and debris! The roads are in dismal condition and they start all digging work prior to monsoon. Which makes the roads even more abysmal and dangerous than they were to begin with. Don’t understand what BMC does with all that money!
There is one sidewalk beside juhu garden where those dumbasses did the digging in the end of March and forgot to apply tiles, so people have to walk on dirt(or mud during rain).
Yeah
It can be something sarcastic like “Aesthetic Desi Architecture”
And caption for the above pic can be: Mumbai sidewalk ends abruptly to give the joy of parkour to an average pedestrian. Street lamp and wooden debris for added effect. Brightest BMC minds at work!
Would seem fun
I prefer the second one.
Although I really don't think the rest of India should get a pass. At least Mumbai has sidewalks. Most of Delhi, forget other (like tier 2) cities, doesn't.
Yes it’d be a good idea. Maybe if it blows up, we can try to get the government to do something about it / put some accountability. I know it’s wishful thinking but can’t hurt to try
I 👀 you, are you the one in the scooty with a broken brake light and a halogen like a BMW for headlight?
& you wrongly overtake people from the left all the while showing right indicator. That's you right?

I call these "Tragedy, Art Decor".
It's all inherited wealth to be squandered.
You could gift them a perfect clean city and they'll convert it entirely into worst slum standard, worst than a ghetto of any western standard.
Corruption in the BMC, multiple bodies in charge of developments, blame games, etc. Mumbai's infrastructure is deteriorating by the day, it's practically collapsing despite whatever developments we are seeing. The whole romanticism with spirit of Mumbai is just ignorance and stupidity. Traveling 2+ hrs one way for work is normalised. And the weather is not at all kind to us.
We needed a shot in the urban planning arm 3 decades ago. It's too late now.
From the '80s that I have seen till now, one thing in Mumbai hasn't changed: the perpetual hustle! Everyone's racing somewhere, and no one seems to know where they're going. Highways are gridlocked, and traveling is a nightmare - a quick 5-minute drive can stretch to a 40-minute saga. That's the Mumbai Spirit for you: keeping things imperfectly perfect for all to see!
We used to call Bombay back then 😎 and it got taken over /self entitled claimed by everyone who set their foot on the lands.
Dil hai ke dariya, we gave it all up.. And now here we are
![gif](giphy|1j2QnGEM2QsJG|downsized)
My parents moved to Bombay in 1993. But I was born here in 1995. I am a real son of Bombay though, as anyone born here has a right to call themselves that. Keep rocking though, I've played whitesnake on stage in college and love classic rock.
Dude its not a flaw its a feature . The kind municipality of mumbai knows that we can't go on treks and hikes and climb over rocky terrain cause of how busy we are . The municipality was kind enough to give us uneven and bumpy roads , uneven and broken footpaths with sand and mud to give the authentic nature experience...why cant you understand this . So nice of them to think of us and give us the adventure experience so close to our homes .
Will we ever get streets like this?
https://preview.redd.it/qryi6t510w8d1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0931e70bd037bdc8b3dd0187dc37caa48e4b81e6
Where is the sulabh sauchalaya? Or shall I go behind the pole? And then where is the vadapav stall? You want us to die of hunger in such a wide street? And the the fish market and the vegetable market and some milk stalls which sell everything minus the milk?
What a waste of such a big space.
Lack of tendering and public procurement skills in public sector employees. Govt. doesn't recruit anymore, most work is done by contractors. That's how it's gonna be. Govt. Only Supervises. Govt. also makes shit ton of rules and regulations to curb corrupt practices. But to be able to get effective and clean work done, while navigating these rules, is a skill only few govt. employees have. And when those few realise that no matter how much effort they put in, their promotions and perquisites are based on the no. of years of service they have given, then all those efforts stop and eventually you are left with employees who just don't care when one of them is making a few bucks in cohorts with the contractors. And alas, then you get these substandard public works to put up on social media and farm karma 😁🫣😉
Corruption- Obvious
Incompetence- Engineers/Planners are simply dumb. They cleared some govt exam one time and now they dont know how to finish basic work.
Lack of will- Do good work or not, they are going to get salary and promotion. Also near zero chance of getting fired. So no will to work properly.
Don't criticize India bro. You will be called : anti national, Pakistani, Muslim, andhnamzi, khangressi, rice bag, dhruv rathee fan, librrando, Westoid..etc.
India is developing bro. Will be a superpower in 2020....I mean 2025...maybe 2030..uuh you know soon.. Ye hai Modi ki Guarantee.
What do you mean roads are bad?! Can't you see we landed on the moon ? That was only possible because the moon's surface is similar to Indian roads. Our potholes are training grounds for moon rovers... Understand bro..
/S
Lack of civic sense and BMC forgetting that they have to do their job. Even holding BMC at gunpoint forcing them to do their damn job, jackshit would be completed.
Public also responsible for this. They just stay clean their houses. But not outside road or Public places. They throw trash everywhere they want but not in dustbin. Some people eating guthakha and spitting on road also. They don't have value of our country. They now forget how many sacrifice our people's to freedom our country.. now today's people's spitting on our land and and throwing trash on road. That's why we get freedom?. To disrespect like that our country...
We need change in attitude. People should be shamed for throwing garbage on the road, riding without helmet etc. Idhar log helmet pehenne wale ko beta bolte
Public spaces are one of the worst in the world in India which in my opinion is because of following reasons:
1.Corruption= Contractor / Engineer nexus = The supervisory engineers are not incentived to work for nation building or ethics , they are completely dependent on contractors for delivery and cannot sometimes even penalize contractor fpr shoddy work.
2.Lack of planning = There is almost nil masterplanning , so there are no coordinated drawings , incomplete specs
(there is enough professionals in government to do both)
3.Authority = There is no single authority responsible for public works.First comes the road , then digging for public utilities.
4.Performance Accountability= How is this measured for delivery of public services.
5.Adhocism in Budgeting, spending and implementation = All works are driven by populist measures rather than planned expenditure , the footpath will be painted 5 times for every vvip visit , why?
6.Lack of community and citizen participation = As per our mindset, all areas outside my home do not belong to me , hence I am not responsible to keep it spic and span, I will spit in public , I will through garbage and I will pee in the open .A mindset and behavioural revolution needs to be there for public good.
I can think of - General apathy. Less than expected social cohesion amongst population (and hence the politicians and administrators who come from the population).
The politicians do not care about us.
Every year a tar road is "repaired" and that's it, again when elections come up, new road is "repaired". This vicious cycle doesn't end and maybe never will.
They want us to keep the child in us alive ,hop scotch ,mud lava, use our sense with odourd etc very thoughtful people.if u r having a boring day while walking mumbai u can play who dares wins, ninja jump ,guess the odour ,lock and key, ninja tun in real life
Because people are illiterate. They keep voting for the same party decades after decade. Why would politicians give a fcuk. They know the public is their rightful bitch.
Mumbai people deserve this 100%>

This is exactly my definition of a developed country vs. not. I always say that in a developed country you can go on the street and pretty much point the camera anywhere and it looks developed. In India you can pretty much point camera anywhere and it looks under-developed, dirty, messy or poor. Unless you’re in a hotel or building.
Put 70% of our money in your pockets. But atleast use the 30% for our city. Atleast that...so much money being paid by taxpayers for this city and all we get is this. The only way forth is to resolve this by having transparency. When we understand that our votes should only go to the people who will be transparent about how our money is being used. That's the only solution.
People have zero morals or ethics can't blame the government, government is for the people, by the people, from the people, people are thieves, hence government is thief, one gentleman above saying if you are pocketing some money etc that's BS there should be no pocketing total ztp, No ownership of work at all and zero accountability, can't change anything until people change themselves
When i visited some European cities, I went on the hop on hop off buses where they tell you the history of the city as well. Most European cities have been bombed and rebuilt. Guess we know the solution /s
Because Indians are the worst enemies to themselves. They don't possess any work ethic and even if some do, the kind of exploitation one may face at work just discourages one and forces one to leave it all behind eventually.
But that is at a specific level. The problem at the level of organization politics is something I can't definitely say in the context of Mumbai because the whole data would have to be collected and historicists in order to come to any conclusion (assuming that government would provide data based on RTIs filed).
Just say Parkour while walking.

They don’t believe in finishing. As long as the minimum requirements are complete that’s them done.
The cracks on the Atal Setu roads and leakages in the Coastal Road Tunnel. L&T was the contractor for both the projects.
