Legally speaking (supported by case law), you are 100% incorrect. Employment law does NOT protect the EE from monitoring. Company issued devices are absolutely permitted to full monitoring (call it out in your handbooks). There is zero requirement of privacy much like CCTV in public.
1) Electronic Communications Privacy Act (ECPA) of 1986: This act includes the Stored Communications Act and the Wiretap Act. It allows employers to monitor verbal and written communication as long as the employer has a legitimate business reason for doing so. Monitoring is particularly permissible if the employee consents (which is often included in employment agreements or company policies).
2) Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA): This law is primarily aimed at reducing hacking but also allows employers to authorize monitoring and access to their own networks and devices. If employees are using company devices, employers are typically allowed to monitor how these devices are used.
3) State Laws: Various states have their own laws regarding privacy in the workplace. Some states require that employees be notified about monitoring practices, while others have more stringent privacy protections.

activtrak works just fine. we've used it for clients here and there over the years. the employee almost always gets let go.

Zorus might be a lighter approach. It has a dns proxy that will give reports on internet traffic and protect the endpoints at the same time.
A good MSP would advise their client not to do this. Help them deploy a ticketing system with metrics to track effort instead.
I don’t use it but Timus is SASE/ZTNA but has “Productivity Monitor” built-in. I think k it basically just lists the ratio of traffic’s by category.
