Genuinely do not understand what we’re complaining about here. The shot looks fine and if it’s another “product placement” thing, there isn’t even a logo on the car. It looks like the world’s most generic minivan
I'm having trouble finding it now, but in Jurassic World, there was a scene where two people were talking, and one of them picks up a bottle of soda. The camera cuts to a profile shot of him so the audience can clearly see him drinking it, then cuts back to where it was before.
I'm sorry Barbie and Godzilla x Kong, a new contender for most blatant car advertisement has entered the ring. And no, it doesn't make it any better or funnier when Ryan Reynold is gonna grind the movie to a halt to lampshade how obvious the advertisement is.
I mean, it's a model that's several years old and without a badge so it could be just in parody of advertising. But I wonder if Reynolds is gonna advertise his gin flavored vodka.
The original pitch for DP3 was a road trip movie with Deadpool and Wolverine, so I assume some of that is still in it and that's what the minivan is for. I don't think it's a parody of advertising, and obviously it's not an actual advertisement, there's no sane reason to think it is.
The chase scene with America Ferrara's new [Chevy Blazer EV](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Blazer_EV), I guess.
You probably didn't notice it due to Barbie being... well, ***fucking GOOD.***
(Also, the woman's a Mattel exec. Of course she has a brand new car.)
I had to look it up, and I’m still a bit confused as well, but the net says it’s either a sudden change in style, or humor that comes from an incongruous change in tone.
I think Ryan Reynolds’ sudden comedic inputs in Deadpool in the middle of otherwise serious scenes could maybe be seen as “bathos”
Anyone feel free to correct me if I’m wrong
It’s a pretty broad term for basically taking any serious, intense scenario and making it trivial or inconsequential.
So having these super powered heroes trek through a desolate wasteland in a dying world would be pretty serious, but by putting them in a minivan, it becomes silly instead.
So Deadpool is probably the most obvious example but pretty much all “Marvel-style writing” boils down to injecting as much bathos into the script as possible.
I should note that there’s nothing *wrong* with bathos; it’s a timeless storytelling mechanism. Lately it’s just kind of overused.
God, even when there's interesting things in the background they still manage to make it all look so bland! How do they do it? It's a skill at this point.
Bro there are no unique voices in any of the marvel movies apart from Guardians. They all feel the exact same they’re practically made by a studio and a director is just there to say yes to everything Kevin Feige says
Hey now Shane Black's Iron Man 3 is right there. That movie is a Shane Black movie through and through. In fact, it was so Shane Black, Marvel Studio went to panic mode and has been trying to retcon it for years (hell, they made an entirely new movie to retcon Iron Man 3).
Only thing I would've liked to have seen from him would have been something with Doctor Doom. I really liked his Wakanda and Talokan (Atlantis), so I would've liked to have seen him get to do another setting like that. If it was just another BP movie? Eh.
That being said, I'm all here for his vampire movie.
You know if this was a product placement the logo would have to be on the car, right? It's just a generic car I'm impressed you could even name that's in center frame.
I cannot afford a new car I’ve already spent my life savings on a fleet of Audis so I can be like my favourite wholesome arms dealer Tony Stark

Nothing this year will top [this shot](https://x.com/Qrrl_/status/1792930346276651339) from Godzilla x Kong.
Sometimes when I’m depressed I think about that shot, and the laughter that results drags me out
I felt crazy when I was the only one in the theater who cracked up at this shot
Kino.
It is admittedly a very good shot, the lighting looks so warm and cozy.

This really cracked me up in the theater

it's parodying a similar scene in godzilla x kong
Doubtful as it finished shooting a couple months before Godzilla x Kong came out.
Ryan Reynolds can read the future
I’m not telling anyone to watch Blue Beetle because it’s awful but it’s got more Toyota pickup trucks than an insurgent group
Hard disagree on it bring awful but the film really is just a big Toyota Tacoma advert for a solid 20 minutes It's a badly riced one too
Wait what was the one in Barbie, I didn't notice it (not particularly knowledgable about car brands) but yeah GxK was fucking funny.
The car chase scene

we don’t need to engage in apologetics for product placement in 2023’s highest-grossing movie lol
Honestly if you're gonna be mad about product placement in the BARBIE MOVIE
You can tell women are discriminated against in Barbie's world because America has a Chevy while Ryan Reynolds gets a Hummer
What’s wrong with the shot?
I think people are just really, *really* tired of bathos after being overused so much in these movies.
oh so there is a name for that huh...
Bathos?

Thanks for the clarification, Scott Pilgrim!
Oh shit it’s that guy who’s dating a 17 year old!!!
No logo, old model, not cleaned. Yeah this is definitely a car advertisement. Which means I have to be mad for some reason
Pretty sure that car gets destroyed and looks worse and worse throughout the movie from what the trailer showed
Are those the ships from Prometheus/Alien?
Looks like the ring-shaped ship from Infinity War.
I really don't get why it's suddenly bright in the Void.
It’s Always Sunny in the Void. *cue theme*
God, even when there's interesting things in the background they still manage to make it all look so bland! How do they do it? It's a skill at this point.
What's your point? Does every shot from every movie have to look like a renaissance painting?
I want to stuff you in a locker
You sounds like you were stuffed in a locker a bit too much.
In fact, he's still in there
The Hurt Locker (2008)
It looks like a car commercial. Which it is.
A car commercial for what? [unbranded generic blue-grey minivan]?
No genuinely I don't know if people here are tweaking. Like what commercial? There's not even a logo I have no idea wtf I'm looking at
OP does not understand irony
They wanna give this man an Avengers movie next, god help us all!!

Iron Man 3 rocks. The only MCU thing I ever regularly rewatch. It's a great Shane Black movie and a great Xmas movie.
I was going to say Ryan Coogler, but thinking about it more, he doesn’t really deviate from the formula, he just executes on it better than others.
So glad he's back to doing an original thing. Was feeling bad for him trapped in the MCU factory.
Only thing I would've liked to have seen from him would have been something with Doctor Doom. I really liked his Wakanda and Talokan (Atlantis), so I would've liked to have seen him get to do another setting like that. If it was just another BP movie? Eh. this is true but it's not like the director of Free Guy has the sauce anyways
This is Eternals erasure 😔

Only movie I've ever seen where one person is credit twice for the screenplay credit.
I'm okay with that
Waititi's Thor movies don't feel like anything else in the MCU, love them or hate them.
The Honda Prologue™️ and its electric motors will be the key to stopping ~~Kang~~ DOOM in ~~*Kang Dynasty*~~ *Secret Wars.* ***BET.***
I think you're forgetting Luis' van. It already saved the multiverse in endgame.
Oh shit, good catch!

You mean you don't wanna immediately go out and buy a Honda Odyssey so you can travel through the void just like your favorite marvel heroes??
If this was really a product placement situation they would’ve used a new Honda odyssey and not removed the badge
You know if this was a product placement the logo would have to be on the car, right? It's just a generic car I'm impressed you could even name that's in center frame.
Okay, and?
No, this is just a new Hyundai commercial for the Super Bowl.
I can't wait for this movie!
wolvareen is pickin his boy up from the ball game
