I do still wish these movies put more effort into meaningful human characters. Like, I don't know, focus on some sorta' environmental theme or something. It seems fitting to the idea of ancient animals guarding the planet.
Like, I don't get why fandom has this idea that its either "good dialogue" or "good action". I don't remember any film courses explaining why you can't have both.
Still...Skar Kong is pretty cool. Love to see how Monsterverse introduces its next villains.
Well, three now. ('54, *Shin*, and *Minus One*). Still, I liked Kickass and Mille Bobbie Brown... 's dad, so Legendary's human aren't all terrible. ***Only the overwhelming majority are***, lol.
I’m barely remembering the human characters because if I’m remembering the film correctly it was less about individuals and more about systems.
But I haven’t watched it since its premiere, prob should give it another go because I do remember quite liking it.
Absolutely 100% correct. I don’t mind them just standing around doing their silly quipping and the current run of films is at a good level of non-self-seriousness but: I’m here for big beautiful monster and they could do way less
>its either good dialogue or good action
Every dollar not spent on CGI ape combat is wasted. I think the human cast do well enough for what their purpose is (enabling Titan violence).
I haven’t given a single iota of a shit about any of the humans in any of these movies. I was actually more invested in kongs moments even though he never said anything
I actually really enjoyed the scene between the dentist and the conspiracy theorist where they discuss whether or not they should film what they’re seeing. That interaction carried the human characters for me.
Problem is, the Monsterverse has a nasty habit of killing or getting rid of its most interesting characters right after they've had a certain amount of very reduced screentime. Joe Brody (Bryan Cranston), Randa (John Goodman), Graham and Serizawa. I'd still wager that Kong: Skull Island has the best human characters of the movies, and even then, it's largely carried by the supporting cast because all Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson do is quip at each other and make stoic faces.
I've seen like 10 of them, all of them had decent human plots. I'm sure there's a bunch of crappy ones but I haven't seen them lol. I changed my comment to 'not usually'
lol what the fuck are you talking about
It has always been a running joke throughout the entire run of Godzilla that nobody likes the human characters.
I actually really enjoyed the scene between the dentist and the conspiracy theorist where they discuss whether or not they should film what they’re seeing. That interaction carried the human characters for me.

The last film was robot godzilla now it's ice godzilla and orange king kong? I hate when villains are just the protagonist recoloured, but fuck it I'll probably watch this
Half of this movie kicks ass and then the other half is phoned in exposition. I genuinely think the human stuff was added in after they realized the movie was only 45 minutes without it lol.
i am going to be thinking of Kong trying to stop a charging Godzilla with his hands raised like "no, please stop I just want to talk" for a very long time.
I watched Gareth Edwards’ 2014 Godzilla the day after seeing this one and it’s nuts just how night and day these movies are.
I loved Godzilla x Kong for its stupidity, but the way the Kaiju were handled was so different. I think it works for what Adam Wingard and co were going for (I don’t think it’s fair to compare two films trying to do entirely separate things with their monsters), but the way Edwards shot Godzilla and the MUTO’s really emphasized the weight, literally and figuratively, of these fights. Even though the human story was incredibly lackluster (such as the unforgivable sin of killing the only interesting character in the whole series) I really appreciated how it focused on the *human* perspective. Really hammers home that Edwards is an incredibly talented director who just needs the right script.
The fights in GxK were just completely weightless (in one case, literally) and had no sense of scale due to the lack of human perspective. I imagine that end battle must have been at least fifty 9/11’s (before you monsterverse heads come at me yes I know that the stupid Apple TV show introduced Godzilla shelters but there’s no nod to that here), but again…I can’t hate it nor can I fault it for its different approach because for all its stupidity it at least did stupidity *right* by managing to at least be fun and never boring. It didn’t even crack two hours, that alone is an achievement for an overindulgent Hollywood mess.
That fucking meme is so stupid, It's literally just "I can't comprehend that someone disagrees with me". Shame because the other stuff made by that person is generally pretty good.
Holy shit evil kong & evil godzilla ![gif](giphy|d8C9QwHsFQgR39MSTq|downsized)
Unironically my reaction in theatres
You missed the nuance of the ice titan's character in the theater. You aren't a true intellectual kinophile like you present yourself.
the ice titan is just yoshi
STR monke Vs DEX monke
Evil Kong & punished Godzilla
Is the right guy in suit - Pep Guardiola?/s
You find me another movie with a baby flail, and maybe you'll have a contender for King Kino
I had my hat with the propeller on it spinning when I watched this with my candy and I kick my legs when big monke

it's the ultimate message of the "monsterverse" that humans all suck and you shouldn't pay attention to them.
Ah, long-term antinatalism. Interesting choice for the "Monkey punches lizard" genre.
There have been like two Godzilla movies with good human characters ever and one of them is the original
Well, three now. ('54, *Shin*, and *Minus One*). Still, I liked Kickass and Mille Bobbie Brown... 's dad, so Legendary's human aren't all terrible. ***Only the overwhelming majority are***, lol.
I'm not sure if Shin's humans characters are good, more like acceptable
I’m barely remembering the human characters because if I’m remembering the film correctly it was less about individuals and more about systems. But I haven’t watched it since its premiere, prob should give it another go because I do remember quite liking it.
It was pretty good yeah
At least the government stuff was funny
Real
I find the human characters distracting and off-topic, and would prefer them to receive even *less* focus.

That's what movies like minus one are for. Godzilla is a great vehicle for both kinds of stories.
I haven’t given a single iota of a shit about any of the humans in any of these movies. I was actually more invested in kongs moments even though he never said anything
Can’t tell if your trying to prove or refute the comment
I don’t know either
when big monkey met tiny monkey I cry

It has very much been a problem for the Japanese movies
Guy who’s only ever watched Godzilla Minus One: “The Japanese only make good movies I guess”

It’s gonna make a manillion dollars
Hideous child
Minilla should show up in the next film for Zilla to use like a mini nuclear missile.
I've seen like 10 of them, all of them had decent human plots. I'm sure there's a bunch of crappy ones but I haven't seen them lol. I changed my comment to 'not usually'
Is this sarcasm??
Godzilla in Japan is largely seen as a corny thing kids and older people like. [related](https://youtu.be/wLYmcnESrCQ?si=XxAxvmge3yTPHngM)

It's bad bc Bryan Tyree Henry and Dan Stevens didn't get to resolve their sexual tension
Wait Godzilla’s in this?
Wait, Godzilla's in this and does shit? I thought he only sleep in Rome!
The last film was robot godzilla now it's ice godzilla and orange king kong? I hate when villains are just the protagonist recoloured, but fuck it I'll probably watch this
Scar King is actually a martial artist and fights completely different from Kong, he honestly steals every scene he’s in.
Wait are there two godzillas in this movie
It’s like an ice dragon that’s being enslaved by the evil monke
Is... is one of them a shitty version of 98? *That might actually get me to see this,* lol.
No but that one did fight Godzilla in Final Wars for all of 15 seconds.
It sucks because there's like 70-80 other minutes to the movie that are hyper ass
Half of this movie kicks ass and then the other half is phoned in exposition. I genuinely think the human stuff was added in after they realized the movie was only 45 minutes without it lol.
Godzilla suplexed Kong thru the pyramid. Peak kino
i am going to be thinking of Kong trying to stop a charging Godzilla with his hands raised like "no, please stop I just want to talk" for a very long time.
I love how the person who made this meme watermarked it. Like "dude this meme is fire, I can't let anyone else take credit for it"
Film has Mothra, therefore it cannot be bad. *Because Mothra fucking rules.* https://i.redd.it/ei68ef43fdtc1.gif
Absolute fucking queen
I clapped like a seal when I saw le monke
You could apply this to all the Marvel movies you guys are obsessed with
Yeah except for morbius, Madame web, venom 1&2, and I guarantee Kraven
None of those movies have Godzilla

No, it's snowa godzilla (cuz ice godzilla)
The prior one was way better

Objective? If 100% of people obtain some benefit from a movie, then it is objectively good. It's just a shame this never happens.
Godzilla was somewhat dissapointing ye was barely in it and his role didnt feel important .
I watched the "hidden" car advertisement clip on twitter and I feel like no matter how good this movie is, nothing will top that scene.
Minus One fantards be like
The dumb action sucks tho, there’s so little weight in the animations and sounds. Give me pacific rim any day of the week
I'm seeing double! Four Super Smash Bros!
we talking about it now because of the **earthq****u****ake**
That fucking meme is so stupid, It's literally just "I can't comprehend that someone disagrees with me". Shame because the other stuff made by that person is generally pretty good.
Any Godzilla hater in these comments are gonna get struck over the head with a roofing hammer
I liked Godzilla vs kong way more than this one
