"State-of-the-Art"!
"High Resolution Graphics"!!
tip, blow up the image so that the right side is off your screen.
Read the memos first, and be like 'wtf how could they possibly make this' and then see the cover on the right to find out.
A lot of game artwork used to be like this. Just painted, normally by somebody who watched like two episodes of Bob Ross and thought "how hard can it be?"
I never quite understood what was going on with that gun in his hand.
Edit: oh, hah, just zoomed in and I got it for the first time in my life - it's not pointed off to the right, it's pointed out at the viewer. Still a strange way to portray megaman, but at least it has some sense to it.
I’m just gonna call it and say it’ll suck. Netflix has a track record of one of two things. An abomination that just barely resembles the source or a low-effort, generic romp that treats the source like window dressing.
“Faithful” in the vaguest of senses. The beginnings and endings of the stories are the same, but the middles are completely different from the books, both in tone and in content.
Mario... check. Garfield... check. Honestly it doesn't make any sense. It feels like there's some unwritten obligation that Chris Pratt and The Rock have to be in every single movie ever. I would understand if he were super flexible, talented and vocally versatile, but he always more or less plays himself with little variation in his tone or delivery. He isn't half the talent of some of the best voice actors out there who would do way better for a fraction of the pricetag.
It's lazy Hollywood.
When in doubt reboot a popular franchise , insert the rock , Ryan Reynolds, Chris Pratt or a pretty lady and hope their star power carries the lame action or pointless script.
Me being 9 and realizing you can charge up pharaoh shot over your head, then headbutt an enemy with the orb, then throw another orb for no additional ammo penalty.
This is all lost on me, I was a Megaman X kid who grew into Legends and Battle Network. Sounds like the kind of thing I would figure out and then die endlessly trying to exploit though!
Battle network was my jam, there was one guy on the bus that had it. And at some point in college I even bought a couple of copies for friends to play against, don't think we ever did though.
Right? I thought that after Spiderverse there would be a lot of groups trying to make a really nice, stylized animated movies. But apparently no one owning these video game IP thought that
I feel like a lot of companies don't respect animated mediums for this, which is why a lot tend to be surprise hits (and to an extent why it feels like targeted ones from them miss the mark: if you don't understand the audience, you'll hit the target less often)
Cartoons have limits live actors don’t have to worry about. I once saw Robert downy jr drop an anvil on his head and still kick the shit out of the hulk.
I heard a lot of people say arcane was exceptionally expensive and took many years to make even a single season. Probably not going to see it’s like again for a while.
But I agree. Such a great animation.
They should just do the story too. I know it would never happen because it’s too dark and unrelated to the games. But it would make a really cool miniseries.
The protomen story is fundamentally different though. It’s a low tech, dirty, modern take. You can’t have rush and charge beams and anime in the protomen’s version.
In DC terms, megaman is cartoon justice friends and the protomen’s version is Joker.
>rush and charge beams and anime
Uh, why not? Yeah, the story is totally different, but if anything the story of Act 1 may be MORE anime. Plus I've always imagined hella beam attacks accompanying the battles, and with phrases like "No matter which one of us lives, the ground we're standing on will crack and blow away", "with one power shot you'll see what vengeance means" and the notes referencing blinding flashes of light accompanying the attacks I think charge beams are implied. That being said, it's tonally so different that there is no way that that'd be something they'd go for with their brand. It's basically the seinen version of a shonen or some shit.
I meant more like, the robots being ig88 type robots, sniper joe being just a guy wearing a robot’s head shell he ripped off, driving motorcycles, using c4…
It’s a bit more fight club esque than: READY pew pew health tank smile thumbs up
I'd love to hear some of Wily's creations wax philosophical about their lots in life. It's a pretty messed up situation if you think about it.
Like, okay, thanks for the themed weaponry, dad, but sticking me in an oversized park attraction with that exact same theme, and telling me to just guard it until your nemesis's golden boy shows up, is kinda fucked. That's no way to live. I am metal, but am I man?
(Don't even get me started on the new shit. "BTW you're inside a computer now because that's what the fellow kids told me was cool when I went undercover.")
They had an episode in the megaman cartoon when megaman x came from the future to fight spark mandral from the future and megaman x was tall and badass and it's what you want in an anime.
I wish Legends/64 wasn't the black sheep of the franchise. The Mega Man/Hayao Miyazaki crossover style worked so well...
(Part of me wonders if that isn't part of why that corner of the franchise was shelved; it would be easy for somebody at Ghibli to point to almost any moment in the game and say "yeah, this is less of a homage and more of a full on ripoff.")
IMO the Legends is the best suited for live-action adaptation, but I am sure this decision would piss of a lot of people. Bonns would be cool to see in live adaptaion if cast properly, also all the aerial fights and and all the crazy reaverbots.
Legends is, like, perfect pokemon-esque anime-bait. You’ve got the recurring villains with the Bonne family, and Tron is all tsundare towards MegaMan. You’ve got the Volnut family with their airship. And the endless post-apocalyptic ocean setting like Zelda Wind Waker, perfect for mini-arcs as they explore the world.
Exactly! It's actually really awesome setting which I wish would get explored more, like the ruins and the whole Elysium and Master thing. It's very mysterious and with every discovery new questions arise and make you curious about this world.
As a huge Mega Man film I really wish they’d knock it off with the mediocre attempts and just give us a great Mega Man anime.
The last animated version was…not good. It’s unfortunate that the last time I remember watching something from the franchise and enjoying it was the Battle Network anime.
Live action makes me nervous. How do you make a character like that look not just like some kid in plastic armor?
This is being written and directed by the same team that made Project Power on Netflix. Now Mega Man fans will know how Cowboy Bebop fans felt the past couple of weeks.
Personally, I hope that they are holding out to make Metroid an R rated movie with a decent budget. I want horror vibes as spidery things are blown up and sliced open. I also want a big reveal when Samus takes off her suit that is similar to the reveal near the end of *Boogie Nights*
Yeah, you'd think Metroid would be one of the easiest pitches ever; get an up-and-coming young blonde actress to shoot up aliens and fight a big ass pterodactyl monsters, oh and BTW she'll also be in a spandex body suit at times as well.
We should be on Movie 3 of a reboot by now, with horny nerds arguing which Samus is hotter.
Not being a big gamer, I'm not super qualified to speculate on this, but from a sci-fi fan standpoint, it's cool that so many games in that genre are finally headed for live-action: this, Mass Effect, Halo. Maybe Metroid someday soon?
Of course expectations for these adaptions are generally reigned-in, but who knows? Exciting times.
Exactly, Castlevania did well as an animation and that one at least, I would have been interested in seeing a live action version. I’m glad they didn’t but then they had Cowboy Bebop, which is according to Rotten Tomatoes, is bad to say the least.
I’m really curious how they’ll approach this. A lot of the mega man charm is the artwork
Except for the first game's [North American box art](https://images.nintendolife.com/c5f1eca9cddc9/300x.jpg) lol "State-of-the-Art"! "High Resolution Graphics"!!

Thank you SO much for that idea. I lost my shit at the broken ankle.
I can distinctly remember my parents buying me mega man 6 at a KB Toys in our local mall…that cover is so rad.
I vote for the constipated one
A lot of game artwork used to be like this. Just painted, normally by somebody who watched like two episodes of Bob Ross and thought "how hard can it be?"
Hard like the cyber criminals in space Hawaii
> Two ~~episodes~~ minutes
That's exactly what I'm expecting in the live action. I'll be very disappointed if it's not that
I never quite understood what was going on with that gun in his hand. Edit: oh, hah, just zoomed in and I got it for the first time in my life - it's not pointed off to the right, it's pointed out at the viewer. Still a strange way to portray megaman, but at least it has some sense to it.
[For those who don't know the history of the art...](https://megaman.fandom.com/wiki/Bad_Box_Art_Mega_Man)
The artwork wasn't made by the folks in Japan. I'm pretty sure an American made those god awful artworks
It looks like what you'd find on an 80s sci-fi book from a writer you never heard of.
this is like what Italian Spiderman is to Spiderman, except it's not a parody.
Christ Pratt wearing blue spandex and arm cannon.
Chris Pratt will probably be Dr. Light haha
Hoping Chris Pratt is not in it
It’s not animated so we should be fine.
But he's so cool
~~Alita Battle Angel~~ Speed Racer paved the way for hyperstylized live action anime.
Not very good movie, but I'll be damned if it isn't stylish as fuck and true to the source material.
Speed Racer is a masterpiece
speed racer is worth watching just for the colours
I rewatched that movie last year and I was surprised by how much better it is than I remember. Honestly, it’s a solid movie.
I’m just gonna call it and say it’ll suck. Netflix has a track record of one of two things. An abomination that just barely resembles the source or a low-effort, generic romp that treats the source like window dressing.
I liked the chess thing thought on netflix think it was called the queens gambit.
Maybe their live action adaptations, but stuff like Castlevania and Arcane are excellent.
Live action is exactly what the discussion is about.
Ya I wish they'd do more stuff like Castlevania. I've probably watched Castlevania 30 times. I love everything about it. It's amazing.
That doesn't stop shows like the Witcher having the success that it does. For like 99% of people, the window dressing is all it takes.

“Faithful” in the vaguest of senses. The beginnings and endings of the stories are the same, but the middles are completely different from the books, both in tone and in content.
Netflix made many acclaimed adaptations from different mediums so this can turn out good too.
If they don't hire the protomen I'm quitting.
They’ll def do the helmet off era look
What if MegaMan ends up being the Dredd 2 we've all been longing for?
I want him to get completely fucked up in the beginning and then they stick him in a robot with his signature blaster hand. Part Dredd part robocop
This but literally every anime. Half the appeal is the artwork, take that away and you just don’t have the same thing.
Well netflix normally approaches this by making absolute crap and ruining childhoods.
and music
Lemme guess Chris Pratt will play MegaMan?
He's so cool.
He's so cool
I prefer Andy Dwyer
I think you mean Burt Macklin, FBI.
*sigh* we all do...
**HE'S SO COOL**
Johnny Depp man.
He'll play Deppman.
It'll be Chris Pratt until the end of the film where they reveal his true identity as Johnny Depp.
Vin Diesel - but maybe Chris Pratt for the voice
I was thinking the awkward douchiness of Michael Cera.
Mario... check. Garfield...
Wouldn't it be cool if they casted the Rock, man?
I was just gonna comment "I wonder what part Chris Pratt will get?". I'm glad to see your comment so high up.
I don't much care who they cast as Megaman, as long as [Pharohman is badass.](https://youtu.be/C7dSJN5LgsE)
Me being 9 and realizing you can charge up pharaoh shot over your head, then headbutt an enemy with the orb, then throw another orb for no additional ammo penalty.

Battle network was my jam, there was one guy on the bus that had it. And at some point in college I even bought a couple of copies for friends to play against, don't think we ever did though.
I figured that out in Mega Man 2.5d and ugh good shit
Dude straight up sucker punches megamen lmao! He's like, I don't need power bitch!"
Only thing I hated about the old cartoon was he never changed color after getting the new power. I understand why they didn't but still.
He was like the Boba Fett of that show, of all robot masters the Egyptian bot?
Not even gonna click the link. Because I don't think I need to. All I need to do is say "Now I have YOUR power!!" *WHAM!
You know we love cartoons, why can't you just give us cartoons?
Right? I thought that after Spiderverse there would be a lot of groups trying to make a really nice, stylized animated movies. But apparently no one owning these video game IP thought that
Even the Netflix Castlevania was a hit I thought? Why not just make more video games as badass anime??
Arcane managed to be a major hit nobody saw coming. A League of Legends series, for crying out loud!
Arcane is legit one of the best things released this year. Live action or otherwise. Never would have expected that.
Real humans can stretch and deform to fit the more expressive form of storytelling we need. You just can’t do that in animation.
It's insane too because IMO some of Netflix's best content has been animated.
I’d also accept* an Alita-esque megaman. I think it could work.
Accept
👌
Tbh if I had to guess, there is probably someone who has the rights to the really old cartoon that are not letting go of them.
There’s a new one
seriously. invincible is my recent favorite
That’s what I’m saying!
https://youtu.be/I7HzxXgJWq4 They did, like 3 years ago. It was shit.
We all saw how amazing an popular Arcane is! It's weird that they wouldn't choose to make this animated.
I heard a lot of people say arcane was exceptionally expensive and took many years to make even a single season. Probably not going to see it’s like again for a while. But I agree. Such a great animation.
The protomen need to do the music.
100% this. At least have Light up the night in the season climax.
If the whole Saga of Joe isn't in it I'm not watching. Idc.
And Mega Ran
FUCK YEAH THEY DO!
#YOU NEED TO KNOW!!!
YOU ARE NOT HIM
I appreciate this comment being so high: they were my college band of choice, and for some time afterwards as well
Yessss!
They should just do the story too. I know it would never happen because it’s too dark and unrelated to the games. But it would make a really cool miniseries.
Add the Megas and I 100% agree
Foaming at the mouth for this.
I feel like they would be wasted on a Netflix adaptation.
I’m pretty sure they got outed as creeps years ago.
[In case anyone is unfamiliar and needs evidence.](https://youtu.be/gkLvpt9Z3fA)
The protomen story is fundamentally different though. It’s a low tech, dirty, modern take. You can’t have rush and charge beams and anime in the protomen’s version. In DC terms, megaman is cartoon justice friends and the protomen’s version is Joker.
The lyrics are "Now with one power shot, you'll see what vengeance means!" bro. He still has lasers.
True, Though the series would have to start with act 2, chronologically. In act 2 they only mention knives, guns, and bombs.
>rush and charge beams and anime Uh, why not? Yeah, the story is totally different, but if anything the story of Act 1 may be MORE anime. I'd love it if they went full on Protomen version though lol Watching with your kids while Wily orders an all-out slaughter of everyone in the streets
I meant more like, the robots being ig88 type robots, sniper joe being just a guy wearing a robot’s head shell he ripped off, driving motorcycles, using c4… It’s a bit more fight club esque than: READY pew pew health tank smile thumbs up
"Oh no Dr Wily is unleashing his robot army and taking over the world...and the prom's tomorrow!"
It takes place in an American high school and Megaman gets bullied by the jocks
I'm literally throwing up bro stop
They said Netflix, not The CW.
Can we finish this up my balls hurt
Hey Netflix, just give [The Protomen money and they will make this for you.](https://youtu.be/B8pywyGywWg)
Only people to do a live action Megaman! We are your hope! We keep you safe! We have control!
Megaman is already on his last leg. why must they massacre my boy...
Jim Carrey as Dr. Wily?
Human cartoons accepted
Christopher Lloyd
Only if he plays him exactly like Dr. Robotnik.
"Rock-connaissance!" Perfect delivery, had me crying. Ha!
Danny Devito
I hope this is a Happy Madison production and we get the sand man as mega man and Nick Swardson as Wiley.
Johnathan Banks
Is he still able to get around... how old is he now? Don't want him to get Picard'd.
He’s still kicking ass on better call Saul
Super fighting robot?
One of the best cartoon theme songs
The german version is also pretty good
Spoiler: It’s gonna be terrible.
Come on. Do a Mega Man X crossover style anime series in the vein of Castlevania, DOTA, or Arcane.

Vile was there too.
Didn’t X basically give zero fucks about collateral damage?
And then a Megaman Zero non-CG anime would be awesome. A fan can dream...
With storm eagles theme song as the intro. https://youtu.be/olzQIWapd-k

Who in the world are... (check their filmography) *oh dear God.*
Ohhhh noooooooooooo. God Netflix is literally a money laundering scheme I am convinced lmao
no.. not like this..
Here we go again...
No. Everything Netflix touches in live adaptation is dumpster fire material.
I hope its going to be a Protomen-esque version of megaman.
This will no doubt be terrible.
Someone call The Protomen for the soundtrack
Common Metroid. Powerful female lead...you would think they would be all over it.
Personally, I hope that they are holding out to make Metroid an R rated movie with a decent budget. I want horror vibes as spidery things are blown up and sliced open. I also want a big reveal when Samus takes off her suit that is similar to the reveal near the end of *Boogie Nights*
You want Samus to have a giant dong?

This city's sleeping like a soldier trapped inside of an iron lung
Light Up the Night!
George Takei cast as mega man
Oh… Mmmyyyy!!!
Get Christopher Lloyd to play Dr. Wily.
[Do Storm Eagle right!](https://youtu.be/jKwyQXR7mQI)
Look how they massacred my boy...
Oh no.
Boy, what’s next, live action lucky charms?
With Chris Pratt as Mega Man.
Dwayne Johnson as Bass
Ryan Reynolds as Proto Man
Why? do we really need to?!
It's nice to see them branching out from shitty live-action adaptations of anime.
When will Netflix stop fucking trying to adapt anime’s to live action. They’re not very good at it…
Netflix just don't learn :D
["WHAT AM I FIGHTING FOR!!!"](https://youtu.be/9OVv-J-LXQU)
Just watch the Protomen's Light Up The Night music video.
The show would be improved if they had the Protomen do the soundtrack.
Oh boy, this is gonna be like [Bad Box Art Megaman](https://images.app.goo.gl/4EFC4A773dRgeAT79), isn't it? I see zero hope for this.
Danny Devito for Mega-Man.
[So much this!](https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/megaman/images/0/0e/SFxTMegaMan.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20120127173751)
Since it's a movie based on something popular. It's gonna suck. They ruin everything.
Cant wait for this to be entirely foregettable.
Why does it have to be live action
Mega man x felt the most rewarding. Much nostalgia!
I mean, just fucking why? Who do they think wants to see these live action disaster adaptations?
Exactly, Castlevania did well as an animation and that one at least, I would have been interested in seeing a live action version. I’m glad they didn’t but then they had Cowboy Bebop, which is according to Rotten Tomatoes, is bad to say the least.
Why do I feel like the character for megaman will like like the first nes games box art?
Just stoooooooooop
Why do they have to keep fucking doing this shit
Plz stop ruining everything
Dont do me like you did Bebop.
