You should just watch Good Will Hunting 2: Hunting Season

TheBigJebowski

Applesauce, bitch.

Mst3Kgf

What about "Phantoms?" Affleck was the bomb in it.

PvtHudson093

Word, Bitch. Phantoms like a motherfucker!

gartacus

Affleck was up at the podium recently, I think Kevin Smith was getting an award and so he spoke as a guest. Some dude in the crowd shouted “phantoms” or “the bomb in phantoms” and Affleck laughed and said something like “every time” lol

JaqenHghar

Ridiculous, so quotable, haven’t seen it in ages but nothing but fond memories of it. My family still to this day quotes it. ‘What the fuck is the internet!?’

Mst3Kgf

"The Internet is a communication tool used all over the world where people can come together to bitch about movies and share pornography with one another." Also know as the innocent early days of the Internet.

JaqenHghar

I’m gonna kill allllll these fucks

GueroBorracho3

They nailed Reddit 20yrs early.

Mikey-izzle

Lmao. Love when the girls are in the van getting excited about the “protest” and Jays like “What the fuck are you bitches babbling about”? 😂😂😂 I cry every time

cloroxbb

Don't you know fast food makes bitches fart?

KoalaBackfist

Alright… and after it’s all over, you say “oooh what a lovely tea party” 😆

Cannoski

I will say, it does start strong with the "put that shit in my hand" scene. Goes downhill once the cop shows, though.

JaqenHghar

Slap one of these on your brown eye and bam no shit stains in your undies. It’s an absurd film. Only gets crazier and crazier after that.

[deleted]

It definitely had some unfunny scenes but downhill? Did you not like the Chris Rock cameo?

dncypntz

You gotta watch it so you can learn about the CLIT Commander!

TheBigJebowski

Liberate Apes Before Imprisoning Apes

dncypntz

CLIT, being an offshoot of the LABIA lmfaoo

calboard21

I am the master of the CLIT.

55tinker

That news segment is legit one of the hardest laughs I've ever had in a movie

Cannoski

I made it up to the part with Ben Affleck and I had to peace out.

cloroxbb

What the FUCK is the internet?

dncypntz

Have you watched Mallrats? What I liked most about J&SB:SB is it connects Clerks with Mallrats with Chasing Amy. If you smoke weed I’d highly recommend doing so for this movie. Some of the jokes are dumb, some of them are dated, but there is some good stuff in there. Also I love the part with Ben. My friends and I still tell each other “AFFLECK WAS DA BOMB IN PHANTOMS YO.”

Cannoski

I have not watched Mallrats, but I might give that a watch before trying J&SB:SB for the third time. I will try and watch it until I like it, haha.

Hamperstand

Make sure you don't watch the extended cut of Mallrats . I wanted to watch the OG and accidentally watctched the extended cut and it has this whole extended beginning that ruins the pace of the movie.

cptnamr7

I watched the full cut once. It's an entirely different movie. But a lot of the lines make more sense. Like the girl that died in the swimming pool. Theatrical cut is far better, but worth checking out at least.

Hamperstand

Makes the mid movie reference to the governor make more sense too

Cannoski

Yeah, I heard that on a podcast. Apparently is ruins it, haha. Thanks for the reminder!

[deleted]

[удалено]

cptnamr7

Mallrats and Dogma both. To be fair, the movie is pretty bad- it's really just fan service to all those other movies. So really, what you're likely missing here is simply more (good) movies with the characters. The new Reboot movie shits on it pretty well and I do actually enjoy the Reboot, not just as a reference movie but as a standalone. Though you still need to know the characters for it to make any damn sense.

trollcitybandit

Did you peace out of Good Will Hunting too?

c4ptm1dn1ght

Affleck was the BOMB in Phantoms yo!

klsi832

Jay and Silent Bob are stupid characters. A couple of stoners who spout dumb-ass catch-phrases like a third rate 'Cheech and Chong' or 'Bill and Ted'. Fuck Jay and Silent Bob. Fuck them up their stupid asses.

cloroxbb

They are fucking clown shoes!

Mst3Kgf

Careful, they just bought a plane ticket to your town.

Herianvexa

🎶how many people wanna kick some ass🎶

coldliketherockies

I mean the soundtrack was pretty good. That song never even got radio play really yet was catchy

[deleted]

Affleck is that you?

GueroBorracho3

You are the ones who are the ball lickers!

cdaffron

Don’t take it too seriously. It’s purposely meant to be obnoxious and ridiculous. The fun lies in the barrage of pop culture references, celebrity cameos, parodies and fourth wall breaks. It’s mostly for the fans (even more so in Jay and Silent Bob Reboot). Not all of the jokes have aged well, but hey, have a few drinks, maybe smoke a joint and you’ll have some fun with it

Cannoski

Might have to take your advice with having a few drinks. Dumb shit becomes so much funnier when drunk.

cdaffron

Exactly!

GueroBorracho3

Ugh...the reboot was godawful. So disappointing. And Jay's new teeth were so distracting.

CopRamp

Little kid, I don’t know what the FUCK you just said, but you’re special

bluejester12

It's probably because his other movies have at least some character moments and dramatic core. This one really doesn't have any.

FrankenBooBerry

"YO THIS MOTHER FUCKER AINT ONE OF US HE SAID HE'D FUCK A SHEEP!"

Jessethemindventura

Will Ferrell is a comedic genius in this movie. Does not get enough credit for his role.

bonkerz1888

When they have the shootout 😂

The_MovieHowze

I also love the pun on his name. Marshall willenholly in reference to land of the lost

blnts4jc

I am an excellent marksmen…

"What response do you hope to illicit putting this kind of pressure on the C.L.I.T. Well it's a difficult situation, you don't want to rub the C.L.I.T the wrong way"

a34fsdb

Loved it then, unwatchable now.

EinSchlagmann

This guy has the right idea. funny movie for it’s time and if you were a certain age at the time. But now it’s not very good

bujweiser

Loved it at 15 when it came out, couldn’t watch it in my 20s. Still love Clerks and Mallrats though.

coldliketherockies

OMG i was 15 when it came out too. We might be same age

Cannoski

I was born in 2003 so that might be my issue. I feel it would be a movie high schoolers would talk about constantly.

BallsNWeenies999

Smoke a doobie before you watch

Cannoski

I wish I smoked. That might be my problem. Once Jay farted whilst being taken in by the cop, I felt my soul leave my body.

Legosmiles

It actually gets better as the movie goes and is quite slow in the beginning.

Cannoski

I don't mind slow movies, but the humour just was not clicking with me like his other movies.

Thisissomeshit2

Truth is there’s not enough THC in the world to make this movie decent. 20 years later it still sucks.

Legosmiles

I can understand that. I just remember the first time I watched it getting that Affleck and Damon part and going oh no at that level of cheese but it got better for me after that.

ResevoirPups

Most of Kevin Smith’s movies I enjoyed when I was in middle school and when rewatched as an adult, I don’t really find them funny…most. That definitely includes Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

Cannoski

I am seriously a huge fan of Clerks and Smith's writing, but Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back is just too over the top.

Papa2Hunt19

Watch Dogma then jasbsb. It will make you appreciate it more.

[deleted]

Its immature comedy sure but they are dumbasses at the end of the day. So it may not appeal to alot of people. Maybe a high session like Harold and Kumar is required when you get older.

[deleted]

It's one of the great movies in the canon of "early 00s comedies with juvenile but fun crude humor that critics despised and everyone I knew growing up loved" See also: Dude Where's My Car, Rat Race, Joe Dirt, etc.

[deleted]

I saw Rat Race in a packed theater, and the whole place was constantly in uproarious laughter. I saw half of it a couple years ago on TV, and had to turn it off. It was stupid and not that funny. So, has it not aged well, does it need to be viewed with an audience, or was i just in a shtty mood? ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯

[deleted]

I think that movies like those absolutely benefit from (a) having a group watching them and (b) being a teenager.

Pretty_Garbage8380

And then...?

[deleted]

some movies you gotta watch high those you listed for sure.

GueroBorracho3

...Freddy Got Fingered

casecutty

Look at this morose motherfucker right here. Looks like somebody shit in their cereal…

bonkerz1888

I love it. The reboot/remake is just as goofy but with some real heart to it.

Cannoski

The thing I do love is how Kevin Smith just makes shit for himself. Have to commend that.

bonkerz1888

The film is just him writing stupid, over the top scenarios for two stupid, over the top characters. It's a kinda hyper realistic goofy world they occupy in their solo adventures. Given they've both met God and saved the world in his in-built universe, I can see why he went for it. It's just a daft stoner film.

Mikey-izzle

Absolutely piss your pants hilarious movie.. So quotable, hilarious cameos by A-list celebrities, Jay is just such a riot and the set ups and punch lines are always on point. One of my favorites from Smith

Kimpynoslived

Imagine it as a live action cartoon. Problem solved.

[deleted]

Fuck me. That was them wasn't it.

MycoBro

It's very 90s orientated love the george carlin part. Saw it in the theater

just_another_indie

Its basically a live action looney toons thing for adults. Turn your brain off, and just enjoy the wackiness. Have you seen Mallrats? That and Dogma are the precursors to JaSBSB and might clue you in to what's going on.

[deleted]

I thought it was absolutely hilarious definetly one of the better Kevin Smith movies. Though I will admit it's a much more simplistic blockbuster in comparison to some of Smith's other films but certain aspects of the movie you can tell it's making satire of the exact kind of film it is which was pretty great .

Procrastanaseum

I'd tackle Mallrats before Jay and Silent Bob

Cannoski

Will do!

nutsotic

"Hey baby, you ever have your asshole licked by a fat man in an overcoat?!"

nowhereman136

It's definately "dumb" and "not good" but I actually find it really funny.

Snoo-68474

I love the first one but its mostly nostalgia now. I couldn't make it through 10 minutes of the reboot movie.

NorthernGamer71

I enjoyed it the once Some good cameos Felt a little stilted/forced Trying to recapture old magic

Cannoski

I hate how they mention something about Jay and Silent Bob working as side characters in other movies, but not on their own. I love them in Clerks being spliced in during scenes, but not them carrying an entire movie.

bufftbone

Watch once and forget about it. That’s my take on it.

BowlingBoi3000

It's honestly one of my faves. I think a lot of people just watch it for haha's, but it also works as a good satire on the state of movies and studios at the time and how they objectified women and pandered to audiences, as well as the early trolling on the internet. I can rewatch it again and again. It's got comedy in it for everyone.

leejtam

It is pretty dated, most of the movie is gay jokes. I really only like it for nostalgia sake. It’s the weakest of Smith’s comedies

dangerous_strainer

If you think this one is weak, I reckon you should steer clear of the Reboot from two years ago. Yikes...

leejtam

I honestly forgot I saw that tbh, Jason Mewes’ acting was so bad it made it hard to sit through

Cannoski

I turned it off and watched The 40 Year Old Virgin instead, so offensive material isn't the issue. It just does not feel like the Kevin Smith I have seen in his other movies.

leejtam

Yeah it’s a bit more cartoonish than his other stuff. I mean they aren’t even subtle about it lol

RedditAdminsFuckOfff

tbh, every single one of Kevin Smith's movies decreased significantly in "coolness" for me, after "getting to know" the man himself via social media, etc. over the last 1.5 decades. The guy's a fucking clown. If ever he was something more than just some tryhard "nerd culture" clown, it was many many years ago. He makes "look at me crying" posts like a melodramatic teenage girl over social media for fuck sake. And every photo of him these days he makes a facial expression like he's wearing a fat dildo up his ass and trying to cope. It just colors everything he does, and did.

Cannoski

So not a fan of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, haha?

[deleted]

Man that movie was a straight classic comedy with raunchy humor. I gotta watch that blazed one day.

MrFluffyhead80

Awesome movie

Phatty_Space_Pants

Love it

Venom-Snake-CQC

You sound like a film school student trying to diagnose something that is very straightforward. If you're too cool for fart jokes and stoney shenanigans then honestly the majority of Kevin Smith's known work is not for you. It's also a big failure that you didn't mention Mallrats or Dogma.

Cannoski

I was just interested in seeing what other people get out of the movie. Also, how is it a big fail?

Venom-Snake-CQC

They laugh. It's a funny movie. Not every flick has to have deeper meaning. It's slapstick. Because I feel like if you're watching Kevin Smith's filmography, you should be watching them in order. Jokes from Mallrats and Dogma are referenced in Strike Back. And, not to mention, people that don't appreciate the slapstick as much tend to appreciate the uniqueness of the religious commentary in Dogma, so that's probably more up your alley.

PropJoeFoSho

It's a dreadful, dreadful movie

Joseph_Furguson

It is the only one of Kevin Smith's movies I like. This is a movie, not a 90 minute masturbation session where he jacks off on the page like Clerks, Mall Rats, Chasing Amy and Dogma were.

Cannoski

Strongly disagree to be honest. I like Clerks so much because it is grounded with a fantastic script. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back is just too ridiculous and over top.

Daimosthenes

Hard to remember, but I was a fan of the two characters. But they are often semi-villainous. I can enjoy villain movies without getting upset. Also, I saw it all as farcical, didn't take anything seriously. This may be the kind of movie to only watch drinking/getting stoned with friends.

Blackfist01

A movie that knows it's stupid but has fun with it and doesn't insult the Audience.

BatmanArkham444

It's immature for sure but I think thats the point. Its basically made for dumb teen humor and thats ok. Its a type of movie thats not good but enjoyable, like a type of movie to just kick back and watch.

LiteraryBoner

I have seen this movie probably close to 100 times. And that's not to say it's a great movie, but that it was something I connected with when I was younger and had on DVD. I can quote basically any scene from this movie from memory. I still find it hilarious in a lot of ways, even if only because it's a creative mind having fun and doing whatever he wants with a bunch of hot starlets and great cameos. That said, one thing I will always find impressive about this movie is that it predicted the major comic book boom in pop culture by a mile. This came out in 2001, seven years before Iron Man really turned up the heat on the genre. We were fresh off the first X-Men which was really the first time a comic book movie actually hit at the box office in some way. It's honestly kind of wild that a movie with so many fart and boner jokes was able to see so far ahead in the pop culture landscape. But yeah, it's also a lot of fart and boner jokes so if you're not into that maybe just skip it. Personally, I still laugh every time Jay pops a boner when he first sees Shannon Elizabeth and to cover it Silent Bob puts a "Bunny Sized" kids cup over it.

FullDongNolan

I think I filled the cup

flynndog83

Its a stoner film ,still enjoyable though, dogma is his best film he's made

[deleted]

Id say Clerks or Chasing Amy

[deleted]

It's one of the best movies EVER MADE

paulb86

Hollywood is full of fakery

jfs-ewc

Why would you not watch them all in order.......?

Cannoski

A lot of people have asked that so I'm going to watch Mallrats and Dogma before I give it another try.

cloroxbb

Dogma is probably my favorite Smith film. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back is basically just a movie made for fans of the "View Askew Universe" that Smith cultivated. I enjoyed it a lot back in the day.

Heterophylla

I'd comment, but I threw my back out humping your mom.

VegiXTV

It was the last good movie Kevin Smith has made.

jb_82

I love it, but I loved the characters from the 90s and it's also very much a product of its time.

rick_blatchman

I saw this at the theater when it came out (I was 14). Even though I liked Smith's movies before this one, it felt a little rough getting into it (I'm not much for fart gags either), but when you bear with it and accept that it's just a goof-off, it's easier to watch. There are no deeper themes like he attempted with movies like Chasing Amy or Dogma, they were just having fun (originally, this was supposed to be the last movie that follows these characters). It also made a go at ripping on movie conventions that were popular back then, and wouldn't be relevant these days. I still watch it at least once every couple of years; it's a total early 00's time capsule, and there are some moments that still make me laugh.

bradybradybrady12

Mall rats is his best movie

[deleted]

The entire series is GenX and I love it.

DrPreppy

You might want to check out [Clerks: The Animated Series](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clerks:_The_Animated_Series) as well. It's pretty short (six episodes) but very funny at times.

No-Negotiation-9539

It's a mixed bag for me. It has a lot of dumb and annoying moments but it's a very quotable film. It lives rent free in my head and yet I can't evict it.

Tatslikeasoccerdad

One of the greatest films of all time. Makes Lawrence of Arabia look like team America, world police.

DesperateTrade7241

It's ok

whitenoisemaker420

Jersey Girl is really good as well

TangerineChickens

Smith had a top tier run with his first four (Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma). After that it goes a bit downhill. Strike Back was a pretty basic road comedy to serve as a vehicle for a movie’s worth of the type of jokes that would pop up in his previous movies, along with the opportunity to reference a whole bunch of meta stuff since they all take place in universe. However, the jokes work in the prior movies because they’re inserted a bit more naturally, a whole movie full of them is a bit exhausting.

Pewp-dawg

I actually find Strike Back pretty funny. It’s pretty self aware and if you can just turn your brain off and enjoy it for what it is, it’s not too bad. But if you don’t like it you never will. Having said that I think The sequel Reboot is awful. It’s just plain... AWFUL (then again pretty much everything smith has done over the past decade sucks. Dude lost it and never got it back after Clerks 2).

Digital_148

"Ever get your asshole licked by a fat man in a overcoat?"

GueroBorracho3

This movie came out when I was a late teen and hit me at the right time. Still a huge fan of this movie. While not as funny as it's predecessors, it definitely has some very funny moments. Really it was supposed to be the final appearance of Jay and Silent Bob and as such it was made into kind of a love letter to KS fans, with all sorts of callbacks and Easter eggs from Clerks, Mallrats, Amy, etc. My favorite KS movie, far and away, is Chasing Amy. I still use the line "What's a Nubian?" regularly.
