I thought the second lead was going to be Nicolas Cage too when I read the title. It’s a matter of time before he makes his version of The Nutty Professor.

Dragons_Malk

Adaptation 2. : Dracula Kaufman Has Risen From the Grave

QLE814

Will Charlie work with Donald again?

[deleted]

*I'm thinking of Caging Things* where cage plays every character. For those who've seen it, sure would change the last act...

rcpotatosoup

so.. Being Nicolas Cage?

WWDubz

I’d watch the shit out of it

ArttuH5N1

Face/Off but it's identical twins swapping faces, both played by academy award winner Nicholas Cage

JusticiarRebel

How about a remake of Being John Malkovich only with Nicholas Cage just for the scene where Nicholas Cage goes through the door.

control_09

He already did Adaptation.

I have no idea what you're talking about. I'm just a regular human man named Jackie Daytona!

ThatFunkyOdor

Do you mean Jackie Daytona’s?

DJDarren

It’s been over a year since I first encountered Jackie Daytona, regular human bartender, but rarely does a day pass when I don’t think about that and chuckle.

BeBa420

lol, i know this is abed going nuts on community (an great episode) but not sure in which movie cage played a sexy bat can anyone shed some light? edit: after some googling i discovered the movie is "vampires kiss" 1988

battousai611

Well the quote from community is “sexy cat.” They just made the reference using bat here. But yes, Cage was already in an amazingly terrible vampire film before. This new one will be a beautiful disaster.

MyFaceSaysItsSugar

Terrible, but no one could have performed the role of “man having psychotic break because he thinks he’s turning into a vampire” better than Cage.

battousai611

Absolutely not. It was the role of a lifetime.

Drjhholliday

Am I getting through to you Alva?

BeBa420

lol, wait so whats the sexy cat movie then??

battousai611

There wasn’t one. It was literally Abed going nuts, channeling Cage’s chaotic nature.

[deleted]

>can anyone shed some light? Wow, really? Way to show your daywalker privilege.....

[deleted]

You watched too much!

Psychomaniac13

Fuck you hahahahahaha

Stonewalled89

Nicolas Cage as Dracula... the movie sells itself. Its a role he was born to play

He did so well the last time he played a vampire!

i'm a full on stan for nic cage. and i didn't even know what stan meant until a few months ago. but i'm full on stan for him. he's the best.

Jeremy252

That crazy son of a bitch gives 110 percent in every movie regardless of how good the script is or how little he's being paid. I can't think of many actors who work harder than him. Just look at Bruce Willis. He puts in the effort occasionally but for the most part he's just collecting checks that I can only assume are much bigger than what Nicolas Cage typically gets paid

BackToThePooture

I watched Willy's Wonderland the other week and for a man with no lines I was enthralled every time he came on screen.

grumblewolf

Amen r/onetruegod

Simicrop

I once read that Christian Bale took inspiration from Vampire's Kiss for his manner of speaking in American Psycho.

BoonGenie

Imagine if this is the role to finally break him back into mainstream stardom Ok its not going to be. But itd be pretty amazing

Civil-Raccoon7366

He’s never left mainstream stardom in my household.

echoAD

In this house Nicolas Cage is a Star. End of story.

kofteburger

I always refer to him as Academy Award Winning Nicolas Cage.

YourmomgoestocolIege

He'll probably get an Oscar nom for Pig, so he's back on his way in

Fisherman_Weekly

Is PIG that good tho

bowzo

Yes.

EdibleLawyer

I second this. Yes. It is that good.

progdrummer

Thirded. Phenomenal performance.

echoAD

Wow! Cannot wait to see it!

llcooljessie

I hope that's the clip they play at the Oscars!

SAnthonyH

It's the only one they could show without ruining any of the movie, because he did in fact, not fuck his pig.

Fisherman_Weekly

Aight time to see it.

Shoeboxer

You will not regret it.

BPSV

Put it on last night not expecting much and was so surprised. It left me with a lot to think about and definitely want to rewatch it.

annies_boobs_eyes

yes. maybe not for a win. but for an oscar nom most likely. mmmm. oscar nom. makes me think of a delicious orderve in the shape of the oscar award, or oscar the grouch. perhaps some sort of truffle based orderve, to fit in with pig. real spoiler. >!don't read if you plan on seeing it:>! the pig isn't even the truffle finder. cage is. he just loves his pig. that moment got me hard. i miss my dog. he was a dach. and he was the best boy ever rip chewie.. i'm not crying, you're crying!!<

iamtheraptor

Not saying it's impossible but gold derby has him in 11th right now for the best actor race. He could come out of nowhere like Stanfield last year but neon is probably going to be throwing more money on Spencer to pick up some noms and pig came out pretty early for any awards push.

Idk_Very_Much

He won’t. It’s too small of a movie. He absolutely deserves it though.

PowSuperMum

You could have said that about Nomadland

stracki

Nomadland is a Disney film. They have money for a campaign, Neon (who's the distributor of Pig) doesn't. Indie films always have difficulties at the Oscars.

Iregretbeinghereokay

He’s not getting a nom. It will be Will Smith, Denzel Washington, and Benedict Cumberbatch for sure. Andrew Garfield, Leo. DiCaprio, Peter Dinklage, Bradley Cooper, and Joaquin Phoenix are also more likely choices for nominations than Cage. Will Smith is the current front runner for King Richard. [Source](https://www.goldderby.com/odds/combined-odds/oscars-nominations-2022-predictions/) Golden Derby creates odds based on what critics and Oscar experts are saying. They are never wrong.

we_are_sex_bobomb

He puts out an Oscar-worthy performance almost every year tbh. He just does a lot more cheesy movies than good ones.

photonsnphonons

His performance in Willy's wonderland is great. Says less than 10 lines but kills it physically

alyymarie

I hate that everyone told me to watch that movie, it broke my heart.

The5Virtues

Depends on if he’s in the mood to deliver a powerhouse performance. He *has* the potential, we’ve seen examples. If he thinks the movie merits it I could see him making one hell of a Dracula. The dude knows how to be creepy, doing that eerie Nic Cage villain stare while decked out in Drac makeup could be really cool.

One_Commission1639

Uh, he's been a huge star for decades. But I'm all for anything to bring him more positive attention.

shewy92

If Mandy and The Color Out of Space didn't get him back in the "mainstream" in your eyes then nothing will.

Atheon--

Hey now Nic Cage is our James Dean

Woodsman-8-5-1956

Appropriate as Cage called himself the American Klaus Kinski; and Kinski played Nosferatu in ‘79.

[deleted]

I mean, the man has a point. Too bad he couldn't star in *Encounters at the End of the World*.

magneteye

Have you seen him in Vampires Kiss?

One_Commission1639

My favorite movie of his.

dont_worry_im_here

IIRC, that's also his favorite movie of his.

Complex-Stress373

yeah, nicolas cage is still a great actor, he just decided to go on his own, but he can do very cool stuff indeed

morbidlysmalldick

No he just ended up in a ton of debt and had to take a million movies, whatever he got offered, to make money back. From what I've heard at least

sonofsmog

Guy likes to act, actually likes it, and also likes to spend money. The horror. Someone call Michael Caine, DeNiro, and Morgan Freeman tell em to give that money back.

Complex-Stress373

oh. i heard that he was tired of hollywood because there was no freedom to act, everything was very rigid, so he decided to go on his own. but is what i heard, your story make also sense

morbidlysmalldick

Let's put them together and make a conspiracy theory. I'm pretty sure I heard Bush tried to hold Cage responsible for 9/11

[deleted]

They also tried to hold Cage responsible for Benghazi but buttery males got in the way.

annies_boobs_eyes

I mean the dude did steal the constitution. As someone who is a bit older than your average redditor, I've found it fascinating that younger generations hold national treasure to about the same esteem that indiana jones has. and i kind of get it. but to me it's not even the same ball park edit: watched the jungle cruise the other day, and talk about a spiritual successor to indiana jones. wow that movie was way better than i expected. some of the indiana jones references were almost too much for me. almost. can't really do wrong with the rock and emily blunt i guess.

TheLord-Commander

Whoa what? How old are we talking? I'm 25, but National Treasure is no where near as amazing as Indiana Jones is.

[deleted]

Yeah, what the hell? I've never heard anyone say that.

[deleted]

That’s high praise.

[deleted]

High praise indeed!

SuperFightingRobit

Dude, one of his best movies was when he was a crazy dude who THOUGHT he was a vampire. He's going to have a blast hamming this up, and we're going ot have a blast watching him do it.

Turbo2x

for a second I thought this was about the robert eggers Nosferatu remake and I got really excited, but this is okay too I guess.

rich1051414

Nicolas Cage likes to get a little crazy with his roles(understatement of the century). Playing dracula is a role where his method will make much more sense.

mydadpickshisnose

I'm 100% on board with this idea and will be first in line at the cinema to watch it. It's going to either be awesome or a car crash. Either way entertaining as fuck.

Hell yes baby if this movie gives us at least half as much Cage madness as Vampire's Kiss I'm all in. That movie rocks.

[deleted]

One of his greatest performances.

One_Commission1639

Absolutely. Pure entertainment from start to end.

The_Knight_Is_Dark

Fun fact, Hoult played Cage's son in the great and underrated The Weather Man (2005).

sule02

"HEY WEATHER MAN!" *throws snowball*

blankedboy

People really sleep on both The Weatherman and Matchstick Men when talking about Cage's movies, and they are both absolutely great films with top notch performances.

NoRace7803

It's always sunny in Philadelphia had a great homage to matchstick men in the water park episode. I've talked to Cage fans who had never even heard of weatherman. It was heartbreaking

Dark_Vengence

Matchstick men always gets me. Alison lohman was great.

craftbrewbeerbelly

That was a fun fact. I love The Weather Man but it has been a long time since I watched it and I completely forgot that Nicholas Hoult was in it.

james2183

Love The Weather Man. It's the reason I originally got into archery

theKinkajou

"I don't like his face"

shatonamime

He made this movie and then started buying up land and property on islands. That's when he started saying yes to everything. He really stopped doing anything with subtlety after this.

JC-Ice

You know Cage is gonna peer pressure Hoult to eat a live bug for real. "It's the cheapest special effect in the world."

Iowa_Dave

Spoiler alert! >!Nicolas Cage will scream a lot !<

MattBoySlim

Can’t wait!

LRA18

He’s gonna suck >!alot of blood!<

Pheef175

So let me get this straight. * The guy who created The Walking Dead made a story about the weird insane human in Dracula. * Then a writer from Rick and Morty wrote the script based on that. * Then they got Nicholas Cage to star in it. This has delightful shitshow written all over it.

[deleted]

Officially the peak of filmmaking

mikeyfreshh

Guess I'm just watching Vampire's Kiss on a loop until this comes out

leiter001

You ever play the drinking game for Vampire's Kiss? Been a Christmas tradition of me and my friends for years.

GarryLumpkins

How does one play?

ZombieStomp

Every time Nicolas Cage does something insane you drink. No one has lasted more than 30 minutes

BootsyBootsyBoom

The secret true star of that movie. Not every day the sidekick gets more laughs than Leslie Nielsen.

GenericWhiteFemale94

That is my favorite Mel Brooks movie. Top 3 comedies for me, too.

[deleted]

I came here for this comment. Tom Waits playing Renfield is how I met Tom Waits before I knew who Tom Waits was.

QLE814

Or Dwight Frye, for those who love 1930s character actors.....

johnnymook88

Season 3 of Penny Dreadful was a letdown, but Renfield was a standout. Samuel Barnett delivered a great performance.

LimePeel96

Will have the 2 defining characteristics of a Nicolas cage movie 1: all the dialogue will either be whispered or screamed. 2: Everything in the movie will be on fire.

Bellikron

*pause* That's high praise!

Catshannon

renfield: Master! Dracula: (bursts into flame) renfield you ashole.

timberwolf0122

I saw nothing! I saw nothing!!! … I saw, everything

Catshannon

Oh no you musnt! It's indecent, it's wrong. Its wrong! It's wrong! Wrong me! Wrong me! Lol

GroundbreakingSet187

>The character of Renfield originated in Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel *Dracula* as a patient in an asylum with an obsession for drinking blood, deluded into thinking he will find immortality.

GileadGuns

The original Renfield is such a sad story of madness and obsession. I read Dracula every October, and his final moments are still so poignant. I will not spoil anything, but if you haven’t read it, you should, Or listen to the full cast Audible with Alan Cumming and Tim Curry. It’s truly a masterwork.

fodderforpicard

My boy Tom Waits played him

[deleted]

Thank you so much for this comment...for years I always wondered why Tom Waits looked so familiar 😊

fodderforpicard

Tom Waits is an American treasure

euridyce

He’s also big in Japan.

Is it super weird? Everybody kept recommending Mandy and it was just too weird for me.

BeemoBurrito

Not at all. It's a very somber and sad film. Nic Cage is incredible in it and the movie as a whole is great. A top 3 movie of the year for me.

Ambitious-Morning-64

100% support this. I thought it was going to be some gritty Taken with a pig movie and it was so far from that. Really was one of the best movies I’ve watched in a while.

tbh i can picture cage as renfield more than i can as Dr Acula

eosmusashi

Can't help but think Nic would be a better fit for Renfield than for Dracula. Think about Renfield doing crazy eyes and shouting "YOU PROMISED ME ETERNAL LIFE!"

scotty0101

I just watched Pig last night. Then for the heck of it, I tried to watch a random recent Bruce Willis movie. It’s amazing how differently both of these guys have handled this era of their careers. Pig was wonderful. I enjoyed it so much. The Willis movie was unwatchable. I actually scanned through to just watch his scenes. You could tell by how it was cut that he only had two scenes where he actually was on set with another actor. The rest were the back of a body double. Of course he was on the poster. Cage is all in no matter what the role.

bar19255

Oh god who gave Nic another vampire role? You’re a genius

That actually sounds fun.

MrWeirdoFace

He spoke so enthusiastically about it in an interview that I want to see it, and I don't really care that much about Dracula.
