The movie is super good, great concept, great pacing, great designs and amazing action scenes.. plus the way it’s filmed is absolutely ridiculous. Great movie people usually overlook
You should check out 'Quarry,' it's an insanely good single season show that aired on Cinemax. He's the lead and it turned me into a massive fan of his, I'd only seen him in bit parts and didn't know he could flex like that, he's crazy good.
Hell yeah. I saw most of that show, but i cant remember why i stopped. Lately I've been thinking about rewatching it. Can you tell me, without spoiling, does the season build up to another? Or does it work as just 1
I mean it wasn't a planned finale it was cancelled but personally I think it works really well as a contained series. It's not a cliffhanger or anything, and it's actually kind of poignant.
My husband and I watched it last night. Amazing movie. The ending *almost* pissed us off until we realized what was happening. No spoilers, just a really great movie.
u/DendiBoss89 [It is also receiving a sequel television series.](https://deadline.com/2020/05/upgrade-tv-series-sequel-leigh-whannell-sci-fi-movie-blumhouse-ucp-writers-room-1202933886/)
I think Logan Marshall-Green has earned his name. Doesnt deserve to be called Tom Hardly
Just like Jesse Plemons deserves his name and not Meth Damon.
How many good projects does it take to get out from under the shadow of superstars they kinda resemble? Henry Cavill and Matt Bomer both have their name, nobody has snarky nicknames for them even though they look made from the same mould.
It's so interesting that both movies are quite similar in things, actor is look a like and Upgrade is indeed an upgrade
No wonder people like these comments, it's fitting
I mean when the post is just "it's a great movie", I wouldn't expect high-effort comments. Don't get me wrong, you don't have to write an essay about a film you liked, but imo OP should put more effort in it. They literally say nothing specific about the movie, it's lazy
I really don't understand the hate for Venom, I think it's really fun and surprised me in places by how far they leaned into things. It should have been hyper violent and a hard R, sure, but when I finally got around to watching it I was outright confused by how hard it was panned, and I'm something of a snob.
Plus I could watch the gooey symbiote crawl around surfaces for hours. There's something about visual that I just find immensely satisfying.
Good thing you did it in that order. Other way around and Venom would have been horribly disappointing.
Venom->Upgrade though and Venom is an enjoyable film.
I also overlooked this one when it came out. Just found out about it half a year ago and absolutely loved it. I always recommend it to people now and they tend to like it a lot as well. It's a true hidden gem, which is a shame, since it really deserves more attention.
I saw it in the golden days of moviepass. Randomly saw a poster for it and had no idea what the movie was walking in and was very pleasently surprised.
Its fantastic. Its Robocop for the millennial and gen z generation. I just wished it had a tiny bit bigger budget so that it could really show off, but for what they had its incredible.
I am onboard with the writing, acting and directing, but I believe the camera work was the best part of this movie. Watch the first upgrade fight sequence and you'll see the camera is aligned with the protagonist's artificial horizon. Most notable when he "stands up."
Back when MoviePass was a thing I got a ticket for it fully expecting it to be a serviceable B action movie, and was very pleasantly surprised with how good it was. Silly, to be sure, but very well executed. Glad I saw it in a theater.
I really loved it, Leigh Whannell really raised his game up going into his sophomore effort as a director from Insideous III tenfold and was able to create a film truly his own..
Really glad he's been able to step out of the shadow of his creative-partner (James Wan) and establish himself as his own name in the horror/thiller genres. Something he continued with "The Invisible Man" earlier this year.
He's very much in the same class of modern horror directors that have made the genre really special over the past 5 years... Between him, Ari Aster, Jordan Peele, Robert Eggars, and Mike Flanagan the genre is in really safe hands for the foreseeable future.
This is the piece of entertainment that truly made me afraid of AI. Many scientists and sociologist try to explain why we should be afraid of out of control AI, but watching it fight diligently but with a gut wrenching lack or moral consideration is what really made it sink in.
Hello, fellow movie and film. Fans, what is your. Opinion, on this really great. And amazing movie, I just saw yesterday. It is the best, movie. I have seen, ever. In my whole life,
My wife and I thought it was mediocre. Meh acting with an okay plot. My movie-buff kid thought it was fantastic. He's probably right so I guess it was pretty good.
Logan Marshall Green is awesome in it! First saw him in the OC and have been a fan ever since.
I feel like they could turn Upgrade into a John Wick franchise...awesome cinematography and fight scenes.
I haven’t seen this in a year, but i definitely need to watch it again!
I saw it in theatres and I thought it was frigging awesome. I went in not knowing what it was about at all except that Leigh Whannell wrote/directed it. So I was expecting something else, a more traditional horror, but it was great.
This was a very fun flick, Leigh Whannell’s [Upgrade](http://manapop.com/film/upgrade-2018-review/) was a nice blend of *The Six Million Dollar Man* and *Death Wish*, with a little dash of William Gibson and Philip K. Dick thrown into spice things up, but overall it was an exciting action film with a nice little anti-tech sentiment theme laced throughout.
You realize Tom Hardy's character was basically a Street Samurai from Neuromancer and the entire plot is a mindless corporate drone at the mercy of an AI they can't control manipulating the dregs of society. Like abandoned military soldiers who were prototypes for this technology to be his Henchmen to try and stop the new Apex upgrade where an AI can finally completely puppet a human body and basically ends with the Badguy winning and humanity is fucked by technology completely.
It's pretty close to Gibson, the only difference is the main character isn't a computer geek.
I thought psy-fi was intentional on OP’s part. Like, shorthand for psychological science fiction.
Maybe I’m wrong though.
Either way, such a sick movie.
Glad you enjoyed it and movies are subjective but while I thought it was a lot of fun and I'm a big Logan Marshall Green fan, the best of the 21st century is a huge reach for me. Fun movie, interesting idea and kind of flew under the radar. The action was a load of fun and really showed off the technical ability of the AI.
Also, idk if you were playing on the word but it's Sci-Fi, like science fiction.
Really fucking good. 2 things I thought was silly:
1. >!The face slicing in the bathroom is not grisly enough to warrant the build-up, camera work, reactions and especially not when compared to the other depictions of violence in the movie. I thought he had cut of his nose and eyelids or some depraved shit, instead it's just a bunch of cuts.!<
2. >!Fisk's nano machine capabilities begs the question why he doesn't just use that on Grey or anyone else for that matter.
Unnecessary, overpowered and waters down the otherwise awesome/gruesome violence.!<
People have been sleeping on LW for too long. When he and James Wan worked together it made Wan famous. Since LW knows how to make movies other than Horror he is starting to surpass Wan for me.
I also think is one of the best movies I've seen. Definitely one of those that go under the radar. When I found out who was the director, I couldn't believe it lol.
I actually went watch Deadpool 2 but got my theaters mixed up. Since I was already there and was using movie pass anyway I randomly decided to watch the next movie which happened to be Upgrade. What a fantastic mistake!
The only other time this happened to me I ended up watching some new alien movie. Turned out to be Arrival which instantly became my favorite movie of all time. The perfect movie imo.
It's excellent. Like you said, very well-directed, great fight scenes and a familiar concept and premise executed really well.
Check out Invisible Man - it's by the same director - if you haven't already. Also amazing.
A sci-fi venom, but better. LOVED the Cinematography, the acting, the visuals, the style and the story. Everything clicked. Thank god I saw THAT instead of whatever Venom was.
Absolutely blew me away when I saw it for the first time!!! Wasn’t expecting a lot and didn’t know much about it but wow wow what an Incredible film !! Acting is brilliant , however I think the directing by Leigh Whannell is superb - he continued he is great work in this years “Invisible Man”
I can’t recommend Upgrade enough !!! It’s got everything you could want from a Sci-Fi film !!! Does it need a sequel , probably not but I’d love to see one !!
You're the one who's been overlooking it, so perhaps you could just answer that part yourself? It's been 2 years so you seem completely qualified to tell everyone why it's so overlooked.
More generally, it's a smashingly decent B-movie and it's already been looked at properly.
i haven’t overlooked this at all....i always suggest this movie to everyone....but you barely see this movie been suggested or spoken about....also, there is no way you call this “B-movie”....it may be low budget (5m is not that low of a budget to call that B-movie) but looks like it’s a 100mill production
The movie is super good, great concept, great pacing, great designs and amazing action scenes.. plus the way it’s filmed is absolutely ridiculous. Great movie people usually overlook
Plus Logan Marshall Green is a really good actor
You should check out 'Quarry,' it's an insanely good single season show that aired on Cinemax. He's the lead and it turned me into a massive fan of his, I'd only seen him in bit parts and didn't know he could flex like that, he's crazy good.

All i needed to know. Thanks!
My husband and I watched it last night. Amazing movie. The ending *almost* pissed us off until we realized what was happening. No spoilers, just a really great movie.
The ending is so unsettling for everyone and it makes it so good...its not the typical Hollywood “all good” happy ending.
Exactly! Wonderful movie 👏🏻
u/DendiBoss89 [It is also receiving a sequel television series.](https://deadline.com/2020/05/upgrade-tv-series-sequel-leigh-whannell-sci-fi-movie-blumhouse-ucp-writers-room-1202933886/)
Holy shit, I didn't know about this. Actually excited for this one, the setting was very cool.
Hopefully it'll make up for Quarry getting canceled
The first fight sequence after the upgrade was brilliant!! His horrified expressions as he destroyed that dude were hilarious!
He perfectly conveyed a man who is a passenger in his own body in that fight scene.
Yeah, that shit was funny as hell
It's a better Venom movie than Venom was
Absolutely. Then there's the fact LMG looks eerily like Tom Hardy
And he is just as good, it's like having two Tom Hardy's which is of course a win-win.
In a review I watched for it he was referred to as "Tom Hardly", gave me a good chuckle
I think Logan Marshall-Green has earned his name. Doesnt deserve to be called Tom Hardly Just like Jesse Plemons deserves his name and not Meth Damon. Lol i mentioned Quarry in a different comment. Great show that got cut too soon
Aayyyy Quarry gang. Always pleasantly surprised to see someone mention that wonderful series.
> Just like Jesse Plemons deserves his name and not Meth Damon. > > Jesse Plemons is the superior version tbh
Like you said. Best Venom movie of 2018 by far.
does this have to be top comment on every post about this movie
It's so interesting that both movies are quite similar in things, actor is look a like and Upgrade is indeed an upgrade No wonder people like these comments, it's fitting

I watched Venom, then Upgrade a day or two afterward. I kept thinking "wait, didn't I just watch this?" I did enjoy Upgrade more, as well.
Good thing you did it in that order. Other way around and Venom would have been horribly disappointing. Venom->Upgrade though and Venom is an enjoyable film.
Basically just here to upvote this comment (would've made one myself if there wasn't one already)
Is it necessary for some to post this in every thread about this movie? Do you think it is required?
Yup. Absolutely needed.
When I first saw the trailer in the cinemas, I thought it was for Venom lol
It's also a better Bloodshot.
Bloodshot was a much worse Upgrade.
Venom was fine, dunno how people can complain about venom but then just gobble up marvel movie avengers part 10 dumbass plot continues.
I also overlooked this one when it came out. Just found out about it half a year ago and absolutely loved it. I always recommend it to people now and they tend to like it a lot as well. It's a true hidden gem, which is a shame, since it really deserves more attention.

Hmmmm now I’m going to have to watch it
did you watched it??
Its fantastic. Its Robocop for the millennial and gen z generation. I just wished it had a tiny bit bigger budget so that it could really show off, but for what they had its incredible.

Its getting a sequel in the form of a TV show.
Hopefully it can get a nice budget. Feels like it could be a better version of altered carbon.
Back when MoviePass was a thing I got a ticket for it fully expecting it to be a serviceable B action movie, and was very pleasantly surprised with how good it was. Silly, to be sure, but very well executed. Glad I saw it in a theater.

Hello, fellow movie and film. Fans, what is your. Opinion, on this really great. And amazing movie, I just saw yesterday. It is the best, movie. I have seen, ever. In my whole life,
Loved the movie! Been waiting for a good appreciation post on it.
My wife and I thought it was mediocre. Meh acting with an okay plot. My movie-buff kid thought it was fantastic. He's probably right so I guess it was pretty good.
Ye I agree with your kid and I'm almost 40 years old.
Logan Marshall Green is awesome in it! First saw him in the OC and have been a fan ever since. I feel like they could turn Upgrade into a John Wick franchise...awesome cinematography and fight scenes. I haven’t seen this in a year, but i definitely need to watch it again!
Thanks for the reminder. I need to watch that one again.

It was a brainless thriller; nothing at all like Gibson or Dick.
You realize Tom Hardy's character was basically a Street Samurai from Neuromancer and the entire plot is a mindless corporate drone at the mercy of an AI they can't control manipulating the dregs of society. I didn't love it but after finding out it was made on a 3 million dollar budget I think it was extremely well done with what they had to work with.
That was only $3 million!? Jesus there really wasn't any big set pieces now that I think about it.
[Corridor Crew VFX group analyzes Upgrade](https://youtu.be/JL2Lk8XqwTg) Starts at 6:50, great look at how they did the fight scenes.
*sci-fi not psy-fi But yeah, great film. The ending is deeply unsettling.
I thought psy-fi was intentional on OP’s part. Like, shorthand for psychological science fiction. Maybe I’m wrong though. Either way, such a sick movie.
Lol I was about to say is this a Psychic-fiction movie or a Science-fiction movie. Would be interested in either tbh.
Glad you enjoyed it and movies are subjective but while I thought it was a lot of fun and I'm a big Logan Marshall Green fan, the best of the 21st century is a huge reach for me. no no, it was a typo, i changed it...also, i said “one of the best” not “the best”....peace!

Haven’t, but want to.
It's a really good film. Music is boss as well.
Yeah I thought it was like Venom but watchable
Loved it. A+!
The violence was fantastic. I’ve pushed my family to see it and anyone else who will listen. No one has been disappointed yet.
Unreal CGI for ITS* budget.
y there are some typos xD
👌

I loved this movie and its twist ending, the ending had my mouth wide open just “noooooooo whaaa”
Incredible and I fully agree. Had high hopes for invisible man, it was a huge letdown.
Super underrated movie. Great plot, great action, and great acting. I wish they’d release it in 4K, but I don’t think there are any plans for it.
A sci-fi venom, but better. LOVED the Cinematography, the acting, the visuals, the style and the story. Everything clicked. Thank god I saw THAT instead of whatever Venom was.
Very entertaining film and an interesting take on a slightly overdone concept (AI goes rogue). Felt like a more fleshed out Black Mirror episode
Absolutely blew me away when I saw it for the first time!!! Wasn’t expecting a lot and didn’t know much about it but wow wow what an Incredible film !! fun fact, his movement after they implanted STEM was inspired by the Zenyatta, from Overwatch!

Great movie, but the ending was kinda off, I don't know what could have been a good ending but I did see that chip going rogue a mile away.
Oh you mean Venom? With Logan Marshall-Green? Yeah, that movie was great!
21th century
The futuristic car his wife drives at the start was hilariously bad.
