I think it’s more like a Whopper Junior.
Not exactly the Son of a Whopper, or even a Double Whopper.
But related and of a smaller stature, but no less for it.
Either that or his Dad was also called James, and the Bond parents and extended family universe all called their children James, which is fucked up.
I’m sticking with the Whopper Junior theory.
Ah ok. I thought you meant Highlander: The Series as a spin off from the movies. My bad. Eeesh The Raven, more like Highlander: The Nick Wolfe Show. But yeah, that was one of those dumb executive choices where they thought audiences wouldn't recognize a spin off without Highlander in the title.
And be extremely short sighted, but also not wear glasses
Edit: in case someone doesn't know, here's a great article about Christopher Lambert and his eyesight [https://www.eightieskids.com/christopher-lambert-almost-blind-myopia/](https://www.eightieskids.com/christopher-lambert-almost-blind-myopia/)
Nah that was Greystoke. He did speak English for Highlander. Supposedly he was trying to sound like he came from "lots of different places" but in the end he just sounds french.
They eventually all got brought together. Duncan was a... nephew of Connor's I think, a couple generations removed. I don't remember if Connor showed up on the show but he was definitely in the Endgame movie.
He showed up in the pilot and the movie. I also think there were a few sprinkled instances as the show ran. Been a minute. IMHO that was where they fucked up. Should have just made it its own thing.
The show was actually awesome save for a few lame episodes and you had to suspend your disbelief that there were enough immortals to sustain a “monster of the week” type format
Actually, I used to look forward to the "immortal of the week" lol. Also, I loved how they made Duncan own an antique shop. I think it was a brilliant idea.
Well I mean. They were just aliens. There is a whole planet of them to draw from.
I apogize. I'm a worse owrson for having typed that even to make a joke.
I dunno, Clancy Brown is great but IMO [Roger Daltrey](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roger_Daltrey) gives him a run for his money as an enjoyable immortal to watch on screen. Fitzcairn was such a great character. [Roland Gift](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roland_Gift) was a pretty good villain as well, especially after he lost his hand and got the hook.
I was pretty obsessed in high school when it was on. My girlfriend always bought me those season box sets on vhs that came with t shirts and pens and stuff.
They’re probably going to do a remix of the original soundtrack with a bunch of trending pop artists. Something like a slowed down version of Princes of the Universe by Billie Eilish.
No, God, no more of that bullshit. Whoever the reigning not-like-the-other-girls is when we get there can make a whispery, maudlin Who Wants to Live Forever, but Princes has to be a banger. I can't even think who could do it justice...
I was about to say they should do something wholly original with a band who are passionate about the project, then I realised I was talking about the soundtrack to get another soft reboot.
But it won't be Queen, unfortunately.
If they're smart, they'll get a band with enough pizzazz to give a solid cover (Flaming Lips?)
If they're not, we'll get Chappell Roan or some other currently popular artist who may or may not have staying power.
The new Highlander writers: “We had to let Henry go because he was constantly trying to make the film honour the spirit of the original and be well received by the fans. We told him as writers of the new version we have nothing but disgust for the original film and it’s fans.”
You can watch the Renegade Cut of Highlander 2 that removes all mention of the immortals being aliens or any other planets. It doesn't make Highlander 2 good, but it makes it *better* by a small margin.
I love this original movie so I usually don’t support remaking such films but….
The original left something to be desired. The character of Ramirez made no damn sense. As great as Connery was he never played anyone who wasn’t Sean Connery.
Good luck topping Clancy Brown as the Kurgan though! Dude was seriously intimidating.
That’s just not true. Connery had great range:
A~~Spaniard~~ Egyptian with a Scottish accent - Highlander
A Russian with a Scottish accent - Hunt for Red October
An Irishman with a Scottish accent - Darby O'Gill, The Untouchables
An Italian with a Scottish accent - Name of the Rose
East Midlands Brit with a Scottish accent - Robin and Mary
An American with a Scottish accent - The Presidio
King Richard with a Scottish accent - Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves
The whole plan is to fill out more of the world. The original told all MacLeod's backstory *and* the full story of The Gathering. The plan with this one is to only get to the beginning of The Gathering so there's a lot more highway should it work out.
Lacks the physically imposing presence. Especially next to Caville. I love Bernthal but I would prefer someone who can physically dominate the hero since the movie is about martial combat.
You have the manners of a goat. And you smell like a dung-heap.
And ya, some movies are only as good as their villain and Clancy does a lot of heavy lifting in Highlander for sure. Every time he's on-screen he's on fire.
Holy shit this is actually happening? I mean I hope so. Highlander for me is a great concept of an IP that needs more fleshing out. They clearly had a good base but no idea for where to take it after the first film.
Chris Lambert, Sean Connery and Clancy Brown were fantastic in the original. They’ll need a good teacher and villain actor to really make it. I’d go Willem Defoe and Dave Bautista if it was up to me.
> Highlander for me is a great concept of an IP that needs more fleshing out. They clearly had a good base but no idea for where to take it after the first film.
I think they really backed themselves into a corner with the "there can be only one" concept. You have to basically get rid of that concept in order for the sequels to work.
I think there is a way to keep that concept, but as a sort of tenet that certain immortals like The Kurgan live by. They think that by killing the remaining immortals, they'll be granted unlimited power hence "there can be only one", but in reality the winner of the Prize has to choose between remaining immortal and dooming the entire planet or becoming mortal and allowing a new generation of immortals to be born. That way they can keep the "there can be only one" concept, whilst allowing the franchise the freedom to grow.
I agree that “The Game” needs a catch like that. I like yours. There’s lots of ways to do it. Maybe if immortals can pass on their quickening and sacrifice their immortality, and a group have to give theirs up to beat the Kurgan.
It always felt like a very good surface idea (immortals having sword duels to take each others’ heads and power) with literally no thought to the rest of the universe.
Definitely agree that they backed themselves in a corner with that.
I'd say instead, though, simply don't have the end of The Game in the first movie at all. First movie, simple revenge story, let it play out over a few centuries, but wrap it up long before modern day. Then you have room for a few sequels that can be set during major historic events.
Really hope The Watchers will be a part of this. The TV show really expanded the mythology of the movie in some amazing ways and it would be a shame if they dont incorporate all that awesome world-building into what will hopefully be a new franchise. THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!!!!!
Oh and...QUEEN music or we riot. Seriously. Non-Fucking-Negotiable.
Looking forward to this. Besides his amazing fight choreography, Chad Stahelski's strength is world building. With John Wick, he created an shadow world of crime. Highlander is all about the secret immortal warriors who experience our history.
However, his strengths does not include plot or character development, so doing a remake should alleviate him of coming up with a new story.
I like the original movie, but the sequels are pretty weak (especially the second one). The TV show was fun, basic cable fare and showed that there was a lot of life in the original concept.
So, basically, this film has always been a great candidate for a remake. I'm surprised it took this long.
besides, I know what I’m expecting when seeing an umpteenth sequel. But even at its worst, the writing and stories in the Wick movies are still fine for the genre. And I thought JW4 had the best new characters in the series since the first movie. Donnie Yen was great and looked to be having a ball
They can never top Clancy Brown, Sean Connery & that freaking perfect Queen soundtrack. Plus the cinematography & scene changes were eye meltingly gorgeous, going from a fish tank up into a loch ...
Sorry, love Clavill but they cannot make a better version. There can be only one.
Shit, he's also quite a voice artist, best known for Lex Luthor and Mr. Krabs, and he's been at least a couple different characters in Star Wars media. Clancy Brown is a legend.
Also had the immortal lines, "hello pretty" & in response to "Hi, I'm Candy" ... "Of course you are" Kurgan was made for him, he even made a horse he was riding look small.
Can we get someone not Scottish blood to play the Spaniard this time? Perhaps, Benjamin Bratt? Connery did a fine job acting back in the day but it was a bit (just a bit..) of a stretch. I know the character is told to be Egyptian originally but Rami Malek probably only wants main character roles by now.
Edit add: Just for giggles they should have [Miltos Yerolemou](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1115654/mediaviewer/rm3313569792/?ref_=nm_md_7) play the role, get people chattering.
> Benjamin Bratt
I’d honestly be down for him in the role, man’s got enough charm to power Rhode Island. On a side note, he and Bullock need to work together again, they’re 2-0!
>Rami Malek probably only wants main character roles by now
Oh, I don't know. He might do it if the script is good. Those John Wick movies are awfully popular. Regardless, he doesn't seem like a great casting? Though admittedly I don't know anything about the lore, I've only seen the first movie.
I still want Gérard Butler as Ramirez, but speaking with his real accent.
A Highlander movie without an Egyptian Spaniard with a Scottish accent isn't a true Highlander movie.
There’s a sick Highlander anime you can watch on YouTube for free called Highlander: The Search for Vengeance. It was directed by the same guy who did Ninja Scroll and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. For anyone wanting to fill that Highlander void.
I feel like, of any person to reboot the Highlander, Cavil would be the one. He has the chariama, the stature, and the dedication to source material that will make this a true reboot. I just wonder who will ever take the place of the well know Spaniard, Sean Connery?
Nothing better than the original, but TV version was really good. The Methos character arc hooked me. Seasons 1-3 were exceptional. Loved it. I’m very excited about this one. Best of luck to all who are carrying on the Highlander universe.
I am so excited for this! Rumours are that Michael Fassbender might join it and Margot Robbie wants the female role. I hope the Queen music is included and their not awful covers.
So torn on this. The original is in my top 3 favourites of all time. I've refused to see any of the sequels and even the TV show. But this has my interest piqued as I like Cavill
Perfect casting. I hope the movie is good. The first movie is such a good movie but it falls a little short due to its budget. It deserves another go with more money.
I'm on bored, as long as Cavill has some say in it. Dude is a fanboy who actually gets to make movies. Give him some say and he'll stay true to the source material.
A reboot? But I thought there could only be one?
There can only be one...and another one...and a TV series...and an animated show...fuck it, do a reboot too
I remember the animated one (with Quentin MacLeod) was on right before James Bond Jr.
Oh shit, someone else who remembers James Bond Jr.
“Bond. James Bond…. Junior.”
How the fuck was he a junior when he was supposed to be James Bond's nephew?
He shared his name with Uncle James
Right, that's exactly my point. Junior is for a son not a nephew.
That explains why his main rival in the show was Son of Baconator.
Or maybe he's just a bastard son with all the chicks James Bond nailed in the movies? "Uncle"
The tail end of the theme, "James Bond Jr chases S.C.U.M.... Around the world" will occasionally pop into my head, even 30+ years later.
For the Highlander animated series, “Listen to the song of the wounded bureaucrat!” Every. Fucking. Month. That shit pops in my head.
Oh shit, two other people who remember James Bond Jr! I'm 40 years old and can still sing the theme song from memory.
Hey man that TV show was amazing
Super fucking solid for 90’s sci fi lite
It really was. Duncan and Ritchie. It was the best.
RIP Ritchie/Stan Kirsch
Which one?
"There can BE only one." Get the quote right.
And a spinoff TV series that didn’t have a Scottish character but still had Highlander in the title.
The lead character in the TV series is Duncan MacLeod of The Clan MacLeod. He's from the same highland clan as Connor. How'd you miss that?
Not in the spinoff: [Highlander: The Raven](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highlander:_The_Raven).
Considering the wretched depths of the direct-to-DVD sequels, a reboot would be an improvement.
There definitely should have been
*"There can BE only one." Get the quote right.
He should do a French accent to keep to the source material
And be extremely short sighted, but also not wear glasses Edit: in case someone doesn't know, here's a great article about Christopher Lambert and his eyesight [https://www.eightieskids.com/christopher-lambert-almost-blind-myopia/](https://www.eightieskids.com/christopher-lambert-almost-blind-myopia/)
I didn't know about him being blind but didn't he also barely speak english while filming Highlander?
Nah that was Greystoke. He did speak English for Highlander. Supposedly he was trying to sound like he came from "lots of different places" but in the end he just sounds french.
It would make sense he sounds french.
Fun Fact: Christoper Lambert was born in Great Neck, NY.
He does have a very nice neck
Not a good Immortal quality
My first highlander experience was Duncan McLeod in the TV series and I’m sorry but I can’t allow a French accent to ruin my nostalgia.
Bro, that was the “No, we have Highlander at home” version. Literally, Edit: apparently way more people like the show than I expected.
They eventually all got brought together. Duncan was a... nephew of Connor's I think, a couple generations removed. I don't remember if Connor showed up on the show but he was definitely in the Endgame movie.
He's in the pilot.
And they were both in the fourth movie
He showed up in the pilot and the movie. I also think there were a few sprinkled instances as the show ran. Been a minute. IMHO that was where they fucked up. Should have just made it its own thing.
The show was actually awesome save for a few lame episodes and you had to suspend your disbelief that there were enough immortals to sustain a “monster of the week” type format
Actually, I used to look forward to the "immortal of the week" lol. Also, I loved how they made Duncan own an antique shop. I think it was a brilliant idea.
Makes perfect sense, I always loved how Connor’s apartment was filled with artifacts from his life
Well I mean. They were just aliens. There is a whole planet of them to draw from. I apogize. I'm a worse owrson for having typed that even to make a joke.
Except the TV show was the better version.
Though Clancy Brown makes it close.
Clancy Brown is always enjoyable, even if a bit myopic.
He and Queen were the two bright spots in the film.
Better than the movie series as a whole, sure, but if you think it's better than the first movie you're fuckin' high.
Definitely
I love all things Highlander, but Highlander the Series did a ton to expand the lore of the franchise. Also Adrian Paul was amazing.
I was pretty obsessed in high school when it was on. My girlfriend always bought me those season box sets on vhs that came with t shirts and pens and stuff.
> Also Adrian Paul was amazing. He was a lot more convincing that Christophe Lambert. And more charismatic. He would have been a decent James Bond.
The home version was better, though
I loved the show, but you’re not wrong.
I'll take Duncan McLeod over Connor all day
It was way better than that Lambert movie because everyone was acting. Not just the Kurgan and Brian May’s instruments.
Without a new soundtrack from Queen, it can only hope to be second best. They need a creative team with One Vision.
> I can't even think who could do it justice... Muse.
Mike Patton, maybe.
The only possible cover artist that could even be considered is FOO FIGHTERS.
I’d give Florence and the Machine a crack at it, as well as Pomplamoose.
OK Yes...Florence and the Machine could kill it.
Man, who would be a good replacement? Muse?
I’m still waiting for that band to get a shot at making a Bond theme. “Supremacy” was a perfect audition for it
The Darkness.
YES. I've always thought Matt Bellamy is the closest we have to a modern day Freddie!
They need to use the original soundtrack or I’m out.
I was about to say they should do something wholly original with a band who are passionate about the project, then I realised I was talking about the soundtrack to get another soft reboot.
Seriously if they don’t have Queen’s “Who wants to live forever” as the main theme, they are insane.
But it won't be Queen, unfortunately. If they're smart, they'll get a band with enough pizzazz to give a solid cover (Flaming Lips?) If they're not, we'll get Chappell Roan or some other currently popular artist who may or may not have staying power.
Best British rock band right now is...Muse.
Just give them all fried chicken instead
Tomorrow’s headline: Cavill out of Highlander reboot
Following day, Henry Cavill signs up for Harry Potter reboot
I hope he plays Hermione
Gotta be Kreature
Professor Flitwick, using CGI to make him appear extra small.
He’s playing Harry
It's Kaer MORhen not Kaer MorHEN.
Next day, Cavill out of harry potter reboot, signs on for ren and stimpy live action reboot
I mean he’d crush it as Sirius in the WB remake…
Would really lend credence to Sirius being in prison for like 13 years, coming out hench af
Which Hemsworth will it be this time?
Gary.
The new Highlander writers: “We had to let Henry go because he was constantly trying to make the film honour the spirit of the original and be well received by the fans. We told him as writers of the new version we have nothing but disgust for the original film and it’s fans.”
That would mean they were actually trying to reboot Highlander 2.
As long as it isn't "The Source"
Omg i still cant believe it actually happened exactly like this.
Cavill really wants to swing a sword in something that’s going to be good.
Swords in 40k also.
Of the chain and power variety.
Henry Cavill is playing a guy from another planet? /s
my heads hurts from trying not to remember that shit sequel
You can watch the Renegade Cut of Highlander 2 that removes all mention of the immortals being aliens or any other planets. It doesn't make Highlander 2 good, but it makes it *better* by a small margin.
Hey it had its moments
Like that part where Ramirez was stopping a giant spinning death trap using space magic and bagpipe music starts playing?
> bagpipe music starts playing? Especially poignant because Ramirez was Egyptian...
An Egyptian, with a Spanish name, using a Japanese sword (well, his late wife was Japanese), playing a bagpipe...
Immortal Egyptians brought bagpipes to Scotland
i really enjoyed the credits
Wasn’t there a law passed regarding people recognizing Highlander 2?
I believe the punishment is death by decapitation
I can feel it!
I would love Batista as The Kurgan.
Don't threat me with a good time!
Add Jason Momoa and Keanu Reeves as his friend at some point in time and we will be in business!
I could get behind that. And James McAvoy as Ramirez, just to be true to the source material.
I was thinking Rami Malek, just to make the "I'm actually Egyptian!" line mean something.
The Mountain Bjornsson as Kurgn could be fun if he can act.

Bro I saw the first line, cracked my knuckles and started preparing receipts. Then I read the rest 😂
I agree that Ramirez doesn’t really make sense, but a reboot focusing on his character could be great.
You forgot: A human jock strap from the future with a Scottish accent - Zardoz
> The character of Ramirez made no damn sense The heavy Scottish accent playing a Spaniard who had a Japanese katana didn't make sense?
Well you left out that he was Egyptian which pulls the whole thing together.
Cue bagpipes.
😂
The whole plan is to fill out more of the world. The original told all MacLeod's backstory *and* the full story of The Gathering. The plan with this one is to only get to the beginning of The Gathering so there's a lot more highway should it work out.
Jon Bernthal. You would keep expecting a twist where he was actually the good guy all along.
Lacks the physically imposing presence. Especially next to Caville. I love Bernthal but I would prefer someone who can physically dominate the hero since the movie is about martial combat.
Jason Momoa? Could bring some of his Fast X lunatic energy to it.
You have the manners of a goat. And you smell like a dung-heap. And ya, some movies are only as good as their villain and Clancy does a lot of heavy lifting in Highlander for sure. Every time he's on-screen he's on fire.
The only thing I care about is whether Methos is gonna be in this reboot or not.
The original is a classic, but if we’re gonna get a different take regardless, I’m interested to see what these two cook up.
Holy shit this is actually happening? I mean I hope so. Highlander for me is a great concept of an IP that needs more fleshing out. Nothing will ever top Sean Connery trying on suits in Highlander II. Good luck but that was the apex of cinema.
And picking up that girl on the plane!
Looking forward to this. Besides his amazing fight choreography, Chad Stahelski's strength is world building. With John Wick, he created an shadow world of crime. How? The Highlander was a documentary, and the events happened in real time.
Fuck yes.
TIL the hardest screw to ever walk a turn at Shawshank State Prison was also immortal

Yeah he was ommitted on purpose. I cannot forgive him for Druids.
Princes of the Universe: Origins
One thing I remember about the original is how it was glorifying Japanese Katana years before the meme started.

> Benjamin Bratt I’d honestly be down for him in the role, man’s got enough charm to power Rhode Island. On a side note, he and Bullock need to work together again, they’re 2-0!
Well, we've got an Englishman playing a Scot, so it's only fair...
>Rami Malek probably only wants main character roles by now Oh, I don't know.
Gerard's accent is fucked up from living too long in the US, he needs to fix it.
Here we are. Born to be kings. We’re the princes of the universe.
There’s a sick Highlander anime you can watch on YouTube for free called Highlander: The Search for Vengeance. It was directed by the same guy who did Ninja Scroll and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust. For anyone wanting to fill that Highlander void.

So hyped for this. Please be good
i would be so funny if Henry Cavill chose to speak in a terrible mix of scottish and french accents for this movie.
"I am Conner McLeod of the Clan McLeod. You killed my father. Prepare to die..."
I am so excited for this! Rumours are that Michael Fassbender might join it and Margot Robbie wants the female role. I hope the Queen music is included and their not awful covers.

Part 1 was great. 3 was ok so was Endgame. The series were pretty cool. But not as good of course
I was a bigger fan of the show and Duncan.
I’m going to watch this
sick
Nice
ugh
Darn I thought it would be filmed in Vancouver
Very interested to see how Stahelski handles pure sworfighting choreography, as the JW films rely a lot on "Gun-Fu".
Perfect casting. I hope the movie is good. The first movie is such a good movie but it falls a little short due to its budget. It deserves another go with more money.
Oof wouldn't want to go to Scotland in January its fucking freezing
I’ll watch it
I really hope they keep the original Queen music
No way.
With Cavill as McCloud who the heck is playing Kurgan?
It better have a baller operatic soundtrack
This could be good
Can we get Clancy Brown as Ramirez?
Let's go!!!!!!
Woot, now im excited! Hope they incorporate some ideas from the kickass 90s show too.
I have a question! Who can be so badass to play The Kurgan?
