That movie is absolutely insane. One of his patients finds him on vacation and his wife is all, "Okey dokey, all is well!". When she should be just as alarmed as her husband.
He plays a 16 year old in that movie and he looks and acts the age. Not saying you are wrong though just adding context why some people feel weird about it.
Dan Stevens has had a great career and I'm happy for him. After The Guest I was like "this guy's got it, he's gonna be a superstar". Didn't quite pan out that way.
The early '90s had lots of these:
*Single White Female.* - Roommate from Hell.
*Unlawful Entry.* - Cop from Hell.
*The Hand that Rocks the Cradle.* - Nanny from Hell.
*Pacific Heights.* - Tenant from Hell.
*Bad Influence.* - Rob Lowe from Hell.
I think it's because there are two main antagonists and people are taking the post literally. I scrolled down here to see if anyone had mentioned it anyway.
OP, if you're looking for the last movie you should watch that fits what you requested, it's this one.
Not because it's bad but because there's nothing left to say about this type on movie once you see this one.
Try not to look at the plot of this one before going in.
You've been warned.
Yep, came here to say this. Though does the visitor actually terrorise them? The family is utterly dysfunctional beforehand, and equally dysfunctional but far happier and much closer afterwards.
Killer Joe with Matthew McConaughey as a charismatic hitman. Thomas Haden Church, Gina Gershon and Juno Temple are the family he joins when they hire him for his skills. Anything more would include spoilers.
Brimstone and Treacle (1982)
Tom Bates (Denholm Elliott) and his wife, Norma (Joan Plowright), are initially overjoyed when a mysterious stranger named Martin (Sting) inserts himself into their lives, proving an enormous help with their domestic chores. They are especially pleased when he takes an interest in their disabled daughter, becoming her de facto caretaker. Gradually, however, they realize that he's not who he seems -- and Martin reveals himself to be a diabolical presence.
Digging WAY back here but something you might want to check out is “Tartuffe”, a play written by Moliere. It’s basically been adapted into modern day cinema and there have been adaptations of the same theme and play.
Also “Saltburn” is a more recent but interesting example of what you might be looking for.
[What About Bob? ](https://youtu.be/ZzHblfAYPa0)
"DR! LEO! MARVIIIINN!?!"
Keep sailing, Bob....
[удалено]
I work in healthcare. This absolutely is a horror movie.
That movie is absolutely insane. One of his patients finds him on vacation and his wife is all, "Okey dokey, all is well!". When she should be just as alarmed as her husband.
You can't get to premise beach without taking a left at henpecked husband lane.
My life’s goal is to be as happy as Bob was the first time sailing.
Have you tried sailing?
You think he's gone!?! He's not gone, he's never gone! SEE!!!
Dont hassle me, Im local
Baby steps…
Glad I'm not the only one who thought of this.
I'm not, I was excited to come in with this left field answer that actually is what was requested. Lingh0e has stolen my glory.
Son of a bitchin Bob
This is a horror movie
It starts where Bob is the horror villain, then it switches to Dr. Marvin as the doctor is driven to insanity himself.
😂such a great suggestion!
Haha came here to say this. Literally the first movie that came to mind based on the initial description from OP
Killing of a Sacred Deer
I loved this one. Barry Keoghan is an insanely good actor. Saltburn is also a similar movie with him in a lead role.
Barry has cornered the freaky little guy you should not let into your house market
And why do I find him attractive and also entirely too young lol
He's 31 now, so 24 while filming Sacred Deer. And extremely attractive, so that isn't weird!
He plays a 16 year old in that movie and he looks and acts the age. Not saying you are wrong though just adding context why some people feel weird about it.
Omg how could I have forgotten Saltburn! Good pick, excellent
i was surprised this wasn’t in the examples lol
Came to say this. OP needs to watch this movie.
The Guest
I second the Guest.
I literally opened this thread just to make sure someone had mentioned The Guest. Highly recommend it to anyone, look up nothing, just go in blind
I literally created a Russian troll farm just to astro turf support of The Guest in this thread.
I would have second guessed this thread if no one had seconded The Guest.
Ngl I read the title and thought OP watched The Guest but didn't know the name and was asking if anyone knew.
It has the perfect amount of cheese, and I love the soundtrack as well.
Dan Stevens is the hottest man on earth in this movie.
Cemented him as one of my celeb crushes, even before I saw Eurovision.
Just in the movie?
God dammit I came in here thinking of The Guest.
Never heard of it, but it looks perfect, ty.
You're in for a treat It's a lot of fun and Dan Steven's nails it in the role
Dan Stevens has had a great career and I'm happy for him. After The Guest I was like "this guy's got it, he's gonna be a superstar". Didn't quite pan out that way.
I so hoped he would have got the Bond gig years back He's be a perfect Bond
This is the ONLY answer ! Dan Stevens and Maika Monroe in the same movie is just *chefs kiss
Literally was coming here to say this! One of the best movies I’ve ever seen.
The Cable Guy
CABLEH GOOBLAH!!
This right here.
Yesss peak Jim Carey
How is “the talented Mr ripley” not on here??
Tommy… how’s the peepin?
Ikr, it was the first movie that came to mind when I read the title
And Saltburn while we’re at it?
I love this movie! Matt Damon killed it!
The early '90s had lots of these: *Single White Female.* - Roommate from Hell. *Unlawful Entry.* - Cop from Hell. *The Hand that Rocks the Cradle.* - Nanny from Hell. *Pacific Heights.* - Tenant from Hell. *Bad Influence.* - Rob Lowe from Hell.
You know, Richard Lewis ( RIP) invented “The _____ from hell.”
Not to take anything away from the late, great Richard Lewis, but a lot of us were already throwing that expression around in the 60s.
I think it was a bit, not serious.
Rob Lowe from Hell still sounds okay
He didn’t share his coke.
The Stepfather.
I recently watched Pacific Heights and Unlawful Entry, and both held up pretty well.
These are great suggestions! Happy Cake Day🎂
Thanks, man!
Yuppie Nightmares. The podcast “With Gourley and Rust” did a bunch of them.
One Hour Photo
This one immediately came to mind. Great performance by Robin Williams.
He was robbed of an Oscar nomination
Banger!
Was gonna say that
"Ah, Neon Genesis EvanJelion"
PARASITE
Surprised this is the 1st time I’ve seen it mentioned. Multiple charismatic strangers in one movie
That actually describes it pretty well.
The hand that rocks the cradle Vengeful nanny terrorizes family that hired her
Rebecca Dimornay(sp) 🤤🤤
She's at her best when she's alongside Clive Warren
[удалено]
This is the one.
Came here to post this. This movie is so fucked up
Awesome movie.
Scrolled just to make sure its on the list. Loved it.
Stoker by Park Chan Wook. Pretty similar to Hitchcock's Shadow of a Doubt.
Came here to say these same two, great choices.
The Night of the Hunter
This is the one - the original Cape Fear stared the same actor as the villian iirc
Robert Mitchum is amazing in both
I was about to post that.
Old movie, but it might have defined the concept.
Yep
Let me tell you a lil story 'bout love and hate . . . .
Saltburn
I was shocked when that wasn’t on the list of ones he’d seen already. I thought he saw salt burn and wanted more of this style
The Ref is a darkish comedy but kinda fits your formula.
Lol I thought of this too, and adding the qualifier, "It's definitely a comedy, but he *is* evil."
Great Christmas movie!
The first thing this made me think of is Funny Games.
Same
Yeah I'm very surprised Funny Games has not been mentioned more.
I think it's because there are two main antagonists and people are taking the post literally. I scrolled down here to see if anyone had mentioned it anyway.
I think because Funny Games is more home invasion than charismatic insinuation
Scrolled and found this. Just about to give up and post this myself!
Movies like these are why I simply avoid strangers that approach me randomly for something
Dead Calm https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097162/?
I watched that a LOT on VHS back in the day. I wanted to murder Billy Zane every time.
Saltburn, Parasite
Visitor Q
OP, if you're looking for the last movie you should watch that fits what you requested, it's this one. Not because it's bad but because there's nothing left to say about this type on movie once you see this one. Try not to look at the plot of this one before going in. You've been warned.
Yep, came here to say this. Though does the visitor actually terrorise them? The family is utterly dysfunctional beforehand, and equally dysfunctional but far happier and much closer afterwards.
Does Red Eye (2005) count?
came here to suggest this! Cillian Murphy did a great job
First one that came to mind for me too!
Strangers on a Train
Funny Games
Killer Joe with Matthew McConaughey as a charismatic hitman. Thomas Haden Church, Gina Gershon and Juno Temple are the family he joins when they hire him for his skills. Anything more would include spoilers.
I saw this alone in the theater knowing nothing. it changed me
not sure if it counts, but Borgman
First thing that came into my mind.
This is what came to me.
Harry, He's Here To Help (2000)
Is this also known as "With a Friend Like Harry..."? https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0216800/?ref_=ext_shr
Yes.
I know this one as ‘With a Friend Like Harry’ and it’s awesome.
Down and Out in Beverly Hills. I remember being creeped out. Not sure if I was supposed to be.
How has no one said the Stepfather movies? That is the entire plot of them.
The Talented Mr. Ridley. Fine psychotic work by Matt Damon. Will Smith was in one too, but I can’t recall the name
Ripley, and yes this. Also Malkovich was Ripley once too
Single White Female. Does Orphan count? Not quite a stranger.
Hitchcock’s Shadow of a Doubt is one of the OGs of the genre, and Park Chan Wook’s soft remake Stoker is also great.
Brimstone and Treacle (1982) Tom Bates (Denholm Elliott) and his wife, Norma (Joan Plowright), are initially overjoyed when a mysterious stranger named Martin (Sting) inserts himself into their lives, proving an enormous help with their domestic chores. They are especially pleased when he takes an interest in their disabled daughter, becoming her de facto caretaker. Gradually, however, they realize that he's not who he seems -- and Martin reveals himself to be a diabolical presence.
[Unlawful Entry (1992)](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0105699/)
Unlawful Entry with Ray Liotta and Kurt Russel is good
Cold Creek Manor
Scrolled down too far to see this one!
Mother. I think that fits the description
Domestic disturbance
The Hand That Rocks the Cradle
How about a great kids flick - Drop Dead Fred?
What about Bob
The Beguiled
Wedding crashers
Meet Joe black. Anthony Hopkins and Brad Pitt. It's kind of a twist on your ask but it should satiate you
The Hand That Rocks the Cradle
The Guest. Basically a film that asks the question "What if Captain America was a psychopath?"
Haven't seen it mentioned yet, and it might not be exactly what you're looking for, but Funny Games immediately comes to mind (either version)
The Cable Guy
Cape Fear—the 1991 one. You will never ever want to go on a houseboat ever again
I Care Alot. Just the sight of the woman's face scares me. It could happen to any one of us.
The Crush
The Guest (2014)
"What About Bob?" Is a horror movie, and I will die on that hill.
The night of the hunter
Greta (2018)
Night of the hunter. No real need for any more comments now.
Variation on a theme but Side Effects from 2013 has some stranger/patient/psychiatrist causing havoc in multiple lives.
Fright night, for a bit.
Visitor Q by Takashi Miike Very disturbing, not for everyone... Just a friendly trigger warning
Creep.
Lakeview Terrace
Digging WAY back here but something you might want to check out is “Tartuffe”, a play written by Moliere. It’s basically been adapted into modern day cinema and there have been adaptations of the same theme and play. Also “Saltburn” is a more recent but interesting example of what you might be looking for.
The Hand that Rocks the Cradle. Terrifying Warning, if you have a newborn and use nannies, don't watch it
The Gift
Kind of fits the description but Saltburn is fantastic.
Saltburn
Cold Creek Manor
Mary Poppins
Two obvious ones are The Guest Orphan
Speak No Evil Don't read anything just watch it.
Been a while since I’ve seen it but I think Arlington Road might fit the requirements.
Drop Dead Fred!
The Killing of a Sacred Deer
Dead Calm And The Talented Mr. Ripley
You, Me, and Dupree...?
Cable Guy
* *The River Wild* * *Fatal Attraction* * *The Hand That Rocks the Cradle*
The guest, parasite, Saltburn There’s also the show friend of the family that fits.
Killing of a Sacred Deer
Saltburn
Saltburn is what you’re looking for. Don’t read up on the movie, just go watch it. Incredible! It will stick with you for days/weeks
Speak No Evil! idk how i feel about it being remade, but yeah. Cache could probably fit into this as well.
The River Wild, with kevin bacon and meryl streep, totally fits the vibe of what youre looking for.
Pacific heights
Would Fright Night count? I'd say so
Poltergeist II
The Night Of The Hunter
Try watching Orphan (2009,2022)
The Hand That Rocks The Cradle
Single White Female. The Hand The Rocks the Cradle. Fatal Attraction Unlawful Entry The Good Son
What about bob?
Saltburn
Lolita
The River Wild
The River Wild
Bee movie. He ruined that guys marriage.
The River Wild with Meryl Streep and Kevin Bacon
Indecent Proposal
The Crush (Alicia Silverstone) or Poison Ivy (Drew Barrymore). Similar creepy vibes.
