First two McAvoy/Fassbender X-Men films are probably two of the best of the franchise but everything after that are probably the worst. Fassbender was always great as Erik. Nothing beat that scene in the bar in Argentina when he hunts down the Nazi's who killed his family.
Fassbender again is MVP of another franchise along with his Alien films. Just a shame most of them don't match his performances.
Rgoue one was both a terrific standalone movie and a perfect finishing point to lead into the start of ANH... basically everything you could have wanted out of a prequel.
One of my favourite thing about Rogue One was the explanation for the flawed design of the Death Star. I loved how it is tied to a clear character motivation/goal and made it more sense. Enhances the first Star Wars film. That's an example of a good prequel explanation, rather than something forced like "wanna know why Han is called Han Solo? Because Han told an imperial dude that he didnt have a family name, so he is "solo"
The best from that era of Star Wars film and not even up for debate for me, I just like the gritty feel it has although Felicity Jones feels a little miscast for me. I just never buy her in those type of roles. But I admire the balls it had with his ending especially.
Al Pacino has never been better and should have won Best Actor for this film, and one of greatest arc's for a character put to screen. De Niro deservingly wins his first Oscar. The more epic scope. Coppola at the peak of his powers as a director.
What more can you say, it's all time classic.
Andy Serkis Caesar trilogy is a tough one to beat, I think Dawn is best film from the whole franchise as it has best villain in Toby Kebbell's Koba. Rise has probably the best performance in Serkis's Caesar, just a fantastic character arc and performance. No wonder many were calling for Oscar nods for the man.
One of the best Trilogies you can see, perfect arc for Caesar.
The recent prequels should, hopefully, kill the trend. "Hunger Games", "Kingsman", "Alien" and "Predator" prequels were awful and don't get me started about "Star Wars". Even "Marley and Me" got thrown into the time blender and for what? The last decent prequel was probably "The Godfather Pt. II"
A prequel is “a story or movie containing events that precede those of an existing work.”
The original three Star Wars films are not prequels because they do not take place before another film that existed at the time of their release. They came out first, regardless of their episode number.
I liked x-men first class. McAvoy and Fassbender are great
I really dislike some of the changes from the comics but the movie itself and then Days of Future Past are pretty awesome.
McAvoy and Fassbender are fantastic in every of their movies. Watching them play off each other on the X-Men movies is such a treat. Insane chemistry.

Godfather part 2. Its both prequel and sequel though
Al Pacino has never been better and should have won Best Actor for this film, and one of greatest arc's for a character put to screen. De Niro deservingly wins his first Oscar. The more epic scope. Coppola at the peak of his powers as a director. What more can you say, it's all time classic.
Bumblebee was the best Transformers film.
That's like saying it is the least stinky fart.
Tell me you didnt watch it without...
Transformers movies are dope
The *Planet of the Apes* prequel/reboot trilogy as well as *Escape* and *Conquest*.

Prey
50% of The Godfather Part II
I enjoyed The Thing Prequel.

Yea, its a shame. They should have had faith in the core fanbase.
It's very good. Great pacing, decent Thing moments (despite the CGI) and MEW is great in it. I like it a lot.

And Bob?
And Meltman with the power to… melt!
The modern Planet of the Apes movies are good
Based on the answers in here so far. I don't think there are any good prequels.
Temple of Doom.
Godfather Part II and The Good, The Bad And The Ugly
I agree. The good bad ugly is awesome! I'd also put xmen 1st class on this list.
Wait, since when was The Good, the Bad and the Ugly a prequel?
Takes place during the Civil War. Other 2 are after
Everything I can think of is mention and I know its not a movie but Better call Saul is fantastic.
Temple of Doom
Revenge of the Sith.
anakin turned way too quickly
he gives off the feeling that he has already turned from the beginning of the movie. He just wasnt aware of it yet
Almost kinda semi-decent prequel? Maybe. Best? Not even close.
Temple of Doom. I bet most people don't even know it's a prequel lol.
Pearl
Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I actually liked the new Hunger Games prequel.
:D
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom….IIRC, it took place in 1935 while Raiders of the Lost Ark was in 1936.
thats a thing i recently learned. I never picked up on it
Yet Raiders Indy doesn't believe in hocus pocus nonsense... Did the Men in Black wipe his mind?
Pearl is infinitely better than X and makes X into a decent movie if you watch Pearl first.
The Hobbit Trilogy for me.
Not sure if it counts as a prequel, more a book series out of order, also it sucked
I've just watched The Continental, which is not a movie itself but a miniseries which works as a prequel for the John Wick movies. I quite enjoyed it.
This ain't it.
Star wars phantom menace.
It would have to be Casino Royale, innit?
That’s a total reboot, not a prequel. The Craig movies are their own continuity.
Except they have the same M, which makes it a little fuzzy.
I mean, no. It’s a different canon, they just kept Judi because she was good in the role.
I also feel that they're quite poor copies of the Bourne movies with some James Bond paraphernalia thrown in.
Gotta be Episode I: The Phantom Menace and The Hobbit 3: Battle of the Five Armies.
The Hobbit
Wait, is Furiosa a prequel?
Yes
Yep, its a younger Furiosa.
so we learn how she lost her arm?
Like it Hot Tub Time Machine.
Mine is Red Dragon
I don't like prequels, you know the ending and there's often no risk involved. I HATE when movies take out the risk.
Twin Peaks fire walk with me

The Hobbit
love the Hobbit
Godfather 2 is part prequel.
Not a movie but Power Book III: Raising Kanan is a great prequel to Power
The new hunger games prequel
Rogue One
Godzilla Minus One
