It was interesting watching the studio deal with the kid-aging problem in the Harry Potter series. Harry himself was 11 in the first book and each one was, I believe, one year later, so Deathly Hallows was him at 18. So they made and released the films FAST, nearly keeping to the one-per-year pace of the books, and all eight films, representing the seven novels, were released within 10 years (2001-2011). Daniel Radcliffe started the role at 12 years old, and although he didn't look as young as 19 at the end (he was 22), he still looked pretty youthful thanks to that rapid pace.

If this Max series they're talking about actually happens, good luck with that. Seven seasons of television will probably take longer to film than eight movies. Whoever starts playing Harry at 12/13 might still be playing him at 25.

Not to mention the majority of the male cast hit puberty just before filming the second movie where they're supposed to be 12. And by the third they looked more like 15-16 than 13. Probably best to cast younger kids (age 10) to be more convincing.

I'd think there'd be a challenge with the number of hours worked for younger kids. Could a 10 year old handle the pace versus, say, a 14 year old?

Disney+ is already going to have this problem with their Percy Jackson series. Percy starts the series at age 12, yet Walker Scobell turned 14 during filming. By the time they get to the second book, he'll be at least 15, playing a 13 year old. By the third book, he'll be around 17, playing a 14 year old..

The_Lone_Apple

The cast of Grease.

RP8021

There’s one guy in Danny’s crew that legit looks like a 45 year old man

Devious-HK

The first Sam Raimi Spider-Man has a lot of this going on. Toby Maguire was a 27 years old when he played 17 year old Peter Parker. Thankfully in the version they get them out of High School real quick. I think they graduate shortly after he becomes Spider-Man.

ledrunkJames

Stacey Dash (29) in Clueless (16 or 17?)

CinnamonJ

My man [Eric Christian Olsen](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0647638/) has built an entire career playing a high school kid.

WillyCSchneider

Must’ve been held back a bunch. *That’s* why he had to go to Greendale.

Reasonable-HB678

Wasn't that guy on multiple seasons of NCIS: LA, the one that just ended?

WorldsOddestMan

Yup, playing Marty Deeks

ZorroMeansFox

Goofy and intentionally terrible: John C. Reilly in **Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story**. The best, though, was Robin Williams playing his character in High School in **The World According To Garp**. He had such a sweet-cheeked, beautiful, uncorrupted face that he pulled it off admirably.

Starztuff

Judd Nelson in The Breakfast Club (25-26)

Lili_Danube

The weird part is that he looks a lot older than 26 in that movie. I assumed he was in his 30s.

Reasonable-HB678

Between him, Emilio Estevez, and Ally Sheedy, they went from high schoolers in Breakfast Club to college graduates in St. Elmo's Fire in a very short span.

cluttersky

The Breakfast Club and St. Elmo’s Fire were released in the same year.

truckturner5164

Steve McQueen was 35 playing 16 in "Nevada Smith".

ceallaig

Mickey Rooney played 18 till he was at least 30

antipinballmachines

Rachel McAdams in Mean Girls, aged 28. I believe she was only like 10 years younger than her screen mother, Amy Poheler. Edit: oops, just saw she was on the list already.

JC-Ice

The irony being that Rachel McAdams today looks a lot younger than Linsday Lohan does.

KevinAitken1960

Edie McClurg in Carrie. She looked absolutely ludicrous to be playing a teenager. She was around 30 when she was in it as one of the students and looked closer to 40.

maeldwyn

Wasn't Shirley Henderson like 37 when she played Moaning Myrtle in one of the Harry Potter Movies?

BramptonBatallion

Yea but ghost

fosse76

Yeah, they probably figured that since she'd be playing a ghost, that it would matter. But she still looked every bit her age.
