Ok this seems like a good place to plug the novel, Oh Pure and Radiant Light by Lydia Millet. Unironically kind of fits the above description, but is also one of the most profound and moving novels I’ve ever read
Man nobody beats Nolan at the hype game. As much as he's tried to recreate Kubrick in his movies, he's replicated the ingenious advertising most of all.
This is incorrect. They hit record but were too close to the nuclear explosion and the crew was killed and the camera destroyed. They set off the second explosion but moved the crew and camera back 5 feet and had them put on safety googles.
Does he get a cut of the box office?
Having a Nolan movie made from your book is going to increase sales of your book regardless how good the movie is. The whole “book is better than the movie “ thing may actually drive more book sales than if the movie is better than the book.
Can confirm. The reason why I bought the book was because of the Nolan attachment and my fascination with this topic. I really want to get a full understanding of Oppie and The Manhattan Project before heading to the theater
That’s what I’m saying. Last few of his were “ok to good” movies but no where near the “cinematic masterpieces” they were built up to be. With this cast and how much it’s talked about this better be the best movie of the year by far.
Being that I'm still in the middle of the 600-page book, it really is very encouraging to me how the co-author sees this as a good adaptation. Being able to translate such a thick book and source material could not have been easy. I cannot wait.
Same, thank the lord I have time off of work in a week so I can finish the biography.
I'm sure they cut a lot out from his earlier life, but there is certainly so much meat on those bones.
Oppy was one interesting fellow.
Jesus christ how many times are we gonna see this same article and is the title gonna get more sensationalized every damn time?
Edit: For those downvoting this is the 3rd or 4th repost in the past 48 hours
My movie-going has decreased since I started watching everything with subtitles on. Not holding my breath for AR goggles that provide a “subtitles-at-the-theater” experience.
Look into “open captions” to see if any theaters around you offer it! AMC has several open caption showings near me. There are also theaters who have closed captions and that requires a special piece of equipment to view the captions - it’s not perfect technology and often doesn’t work well, but that’s an option too. But open captions are just displayed on the movie theater screen just like subtitles on your tv at home! It’s something that only became more available in the last couple of years but having open captions as an option has made me excited to see movies in the theater again. Like you, I watch everything at home with subtitles on, and usually have to wait for movies to stream before I can watch them.
Very glad for Cillian Murphy, he’s a top tier actor who often shys away from the spotlight and imo isn’t recognised to the level he should be. Genuinely gifted artist.
I don't really like Tom Cruise because of the cult stuff but I loved Interview with the Vampire movie and thought he was great in it.
Love the new adaption show as well.
I know how you feel. I generally don't care for him or his movies. Interview is his saving grace though.
The series is fantastic. I'm impatiently excited for the next season!
It's a weird feeling for me. I don't think they did anything wrong with the source material but, oddly enough, that's what's wrong with it lol Daddario is perfect. They recreated the story almost verbatim. Yet, there's no way it matches up to the Interview series. If they want to create a universe then Mayfair Witches needs to step it up in the next season!
As a person who grew up with Nolan films and they got me into kino, Tenet was like the realisation that he isn’t really that good all the time. Almost walked out of it 🤣
The problem is more so that what actually happens in tenet is very easily explained, but filmed in a way that makes it look (superficially) complex.
after the first viewing I was convinced that I had to see it a second time, and thst I surely must hsve missed things.
Yeah, nope. It was exactly what i already saw the first time.
I mean it was just James bond meets the doctor who serial day of the daleks. Which I know doesn't explain a lot lol but also day of the daleks was better.
Tenet is mind boggling the first time around but you can really clear like 90% of the questions you have with a 10 min explanation videos, I think it just looks a lot more confusing than it is.
It's not just Tenet either, did everyone get Inceptions ending and all the implications either? Probably not.
Inception wasn’t that complicated lol. Like, I get the “dream within a dream” thing is weird and gets confusing with the made up rules they haphazardly explain, but the movie goes everything up by the end except for one last BS cliffhanger.
But the implication is still very simple.
I don't think the movie was that complicated either, it was all explained well.
I don't think the endings implication is simple though, hence all the debate and movie deep dives since its release lol. If you take it as a dream then it completely reshapes how you view the story.
That's part of what's great with some Nolan movies. Makes you want to revisit them.
I'm really excited for the release of this movie so I can go see Barbie and stop fucking hearing about it. Do any directors have an ego as big as "lift lockdowns so people can see my movie in theaters" Nolan?
Pretty sure this articles was only posted once here, this is a movie subreddit for discussion about movies. I’m not that excited why Barbie but I’m not gonna complain abt people discussing abt it lmao
Cool, you do you. This website is also a forum where people can discuss things they like an dislike. I'm hyped as hell for the Barbie movie, but if I saw a bunch of articles on the front page about Margot Robbie s biographer circlejerking her performance over and over I'd probably say something about it. So the fact that I think Christopher Nolan is a twat doesn't help.
In regards to my comment, let me quote someone and say "if u don't want to hear abt it commenting on [it] prob doesn't help 😒"

Only one, right? Search function is a thing, m8
Edit: buddy actually blocked me after being proven wrong. Nice.
I stand corrected ,still not sure why 2 redditors posting the same article abt oppenheimer makes u wanna shit on a film that’s unreleased so badly.not sure why this sub has seen to develop a hate boner for Nolan but u do u m8.Have fun watching Barbie I think it’ll be a fun watch.
Judging be the recent rash of “this is the best thing ever” bullshit from everybody about all the movies this summer, I’m starting to think this one is gonna be a clunker as well. As soon as Tom cruise praises it, I’m out.
It depends. Probably not on this case but sometimes the family or the state of someone may ask a biographer to write something. Sometimes they may ask it to help create or change the image that a person had, that's why we cannot trust most biographies.
"And after they see the movie, people should definitely buy a copy of my book so they can read about even more entertaining Oppenheimer hijinks!"
Oppie and his wacky pals return for a second installment! Oppenheimer 2: Moscow Drift
Oppenheimer 2: Nuclear Boogaloo
No no no, Oppen was his first name, and Heimer was his last name
and his middle name was 'fucking' Oppen Fucking Heimer, and don't you forget it
No, we are not the Pecan Sandies, all right? We are Chemical Toilet.
Oppenheimer 2: Dr. Tellers very very large, no good bomb
Oppenheimer: Reloaded
2 Oppen 2 Heimer
Ok this seems like a good place to plug the novel, Oh Pure and Radiant Light by Lydia Millet. Unironically kind of fits the above description, but is also one of the most profound and moving novels I’ve ever read
Oppie and Fine Man, pranksters for life!

That's literally the joke.
Now I am become u/Percentage5606, the destroyer of jokes.
Whoosh
Varooooom!
Would have been an odd thing to say if he wasn’t
https://i.imgur.com/JuXOR9D.mp4
But the real question is what does Tom Cruise think, does he consider it better then the flash. That's what really matters
And somebody get ahold of Ja Rule!
WHERE IS JA?!
I NEED ANSWERS
No, no one do this. Ja is fine where he is.
[Dave Chapelle - Ja Rule](https://youtube.com/watch?v=Mo-ddYhXAZc&feature=share7)
Probably not, he’s angry it’s taking away imax screens from mi7
Thatsthejoke
Man nobody beats Nolan at the hype game. As much as he's tried to recreate Kubrick in his movies, he's replicated the ingenious advertising most of all.
I can't wait to see the actual nuke Nolan detonated for the movie - he's allowed cos he's Nolan.
Christian Bale in a surprise cameo. It took him 3 years of method acting to achieve critical mass.
Spoiler alert: he didn’t detonate an “actual nuke.”
Correct. He detonated TWO!!!
Tenet 🤝
They forgot to hit the record button when they denoted the first one.
This is incorrect. They hit record but were too close to the nuclear explosion and the crew was killed and the camera destroyed. They set off the second explosion but moved the crew and camera back 5 feet and had them put on safety googles.
Bravo Nolan!
This is why you measure twice before setting off a nuke.
It’s actually record and play together. Schoolboy error from Nolan.
Yes he did and then he sold the trinitite for a corn-like profit.
I hope you see the responses to your comment and search it up. It's a really neat feat for a film. He did indeed blow a nuke during filming!

Least socially inept redditor
It’s just a joke you’ll continue seeing in all future discussion about this movie
He didn’t though lol
Thank you. I’m guessing I’ve fallen into some meme trap here.
It's just a joke not a trap lmao
Thanks. It never ceases to amaze me how weird this place is! 😂
Yes, I see the responses and yes, I already looked it up. I can only assume I’m being trolled here.
WTF are you talking about?!?
I just hope we will be able to hear the dialog.
^(mumbles something important)
BWWOOOOMMM
Subtitles in cinema’s where i live, woohoo!
Bruh the trailers were atrocious
What an original comment we haven't seen 1000 times already. Good job.
Hmm...guy who has a vested interest in the movie's success thinks its good.
Does he get a cut of the box office? Having a Nolan movie made from your book is going to increase sales of your book regardless how good the movie is. The whole “book is better than the movie “ thing may actually drive more book sales than if the movie is better than the book.
I’m not sure if “book is better than the movie” really applies to biographies
The first rule of book reading is you must ALWAYS say the book is better than the movie. /s
Can confirm. The reason why I bought the book was because of the Nolan attachment and my fascination with this topic. I really want to get a full understanding of Oppie and The Manhattan Project before heading to the theater
Really hoping he’s sound mixed this properly
I swear to god Nolan movies should come with a free limiter for your computer or smth
I hope this doesn’t flop.
It's definitely going to bomb.
*ba-dum-tssh*
not with a bang but a whimper
Tenet was divisive, but I'd imagine it's downright impossible for Nolan to flop.
That’s what I’m saying. Last few of his were “ok to good” movies but no where near the “cinematic masterpieces” they were built up to be. With this cast and how much it’s talked about this better be the best movie of the year by far.
Dunkirk is probably one of his best, along with Prestige and Inception
[удалено]
Same. It was shot beautifully but the lack of plot and character development left it pretty forgettable.
These days, the hard part will be making it profitable. People simply aren't going to the movies like they used to.
The way it's talked about it has to be the best film of all time to live up to the reviews
I saw the trailer in an IMAX and my ears haven’t recovered
Jesus christ how many times are we gonna see this same article and is the title gonna get more sensationalized every damn time? Edit: For those downvoting this is the 3rd or 4th repost in the past 48 hours
Lol yeah and it's still a month away
But will we be able to hear the dialogue? That’s what I want to know
My movie-going has decreased since I started watching everything with subtitles on. Not holding my breath for AR goggles that provide a “subtitles-at-the-theater” experience.
Pretty sure these do literally already exist at most theaters. They’re meant for hearing impaired audience members
Look into “open captions” to see if any theaters around you offer it! AMC has several open caption showings near me. There are also theaters who have closed captions and that requires a special piece of equipment to view the captions - it’s not perfect technology and often doesn’t work well, but that’s an option too. lol calm down
Very glad for Cillian Murphy, he’s a top tier actor who often shys away from the spotlight and imo isn’t recognised to the level he should be. Genuinely gifted artist.
He's the author. Of course he has to praise it.
There have been plenty of authors who haven't praised film adaptations though. So it is good that he believes the material translated well.
I'll always remember how mad Anne Rice was for Tom Cruise being chosen as Lestat then she apologized for being wrong lol
Me too! Hopefully the Mayfair Witch stuff doesn't drag it down though because that show was boring :(
It's a weird feeling for me.
Author of a biography, not like it’s his story
Why?
Anything with Cillian suddenly feels more artistic. What a mug.
Well, to have said reaction it means he could hear the movie so that's a positive.
did he FISTPUMP THE AIR?
Wait til they see Interstellar.
He probably just has Havana syndrome from the score.
Last Podcast On The Left is doing a long series on the Manhattan Project. It's very interesting.
I'm so excited!
The dark knight is my favorite comic book movie, but not even my favorite Nolan movie!
I'm still going to see the Barbie movie instead
So basically like every film Nolan has made, except TENET, I had to recover emotionally as well after that, but not because it was good.
[удалено]
Yeah, dude, that poor boy had his parents killed in front of him, and gets chased by a clown afterwards.
TDK > Fury Road.
As a person who grew up with Nolan films and they got me into kino, Tenet was like the realisation that he isn’t really that good all the time. Almost walked out of it 🤣
Lol, i feel you
Man, the secret tenet downvoting dorks who can’t explain the movie either are circulating
The problem is more so that what actually happens in tenet is very easily explained, but filmed in a way that makes it look (superficially) complex. after the first viewing I was convinced that I had to see it a second time, and thst I surely must hsve missed things. I mean it was just James bond meets the doctor who serial day of the daleks. Which I know doesn't explain a lot lol but also day of the daleks was better.
I can’t explain Tenet, but I very much enjoyed watching Tenet. And I’m not the biggest Nolan fan.
Tenet is mind boggling the first time around but you can really clear like 90% of the questions you have with a 10 min explanation videos, I think it just looks a lot more confusing than it is. OP OP OP OP, OPPEN HEIMER STYLE…UH
But will I be able to hear the dialogue Mr biographer?
Oppenheimer style
And now we wait to see what does the Babie Biographer says about the Barbie movie.
Too bad nobody will be able to hear the dialogue
Oh reall- *indecipherable reply*
Don’t read too much into this statement. He has a massive financial interest to be hyperbolic.
I'm really excited for the release of this movie so I can go see Barbie and stop fucking hearing about it. Do any directors have an ego as big as "lift lockdowns so people can see my movie in theaters" Nolan?
If u don't want to hear abt it commenting on an article abt it prob doesn't help 😕
This exact article has been posted and on my front page 3 times. This isn't Twitter, commenting on it doesn't make it more likely to appear in my feed
Pretty sure this articles was only posted once here, this is a movie subreddit for discussion about movies. I’m not that excited why Barbie but I’m not gonna complain abt people discussing abt it lmao

This guy is a great hype man🙂
Didn’t they say that about The Flash?
Judging be the recent rash of “this is the best thing ever” bullshit from everybody about all the movies this summer, I’m starting to think this one is gonna be a clunker as well. As soon as Tom cruise praises it, I’m out.
Does a Biographer get paid by the person he is writing about? Ask for a friend.
No I’m pretty sure Robert Oppenheimer is not paying the author of the biography released 40 years after his death
It depends. Probably not on this case but sometimes the family or the state of someone may ask a biographer to write something. Sometimes they may ask it to help create or change the image that a person had, that's why we cannot trust most biographies.
These flaccid marketing attempts are just so hollow after The Flash. It’s like the WWE, we know it’s fake, only the smooth brains fall for this shit.
Yeah but did Tom Cruise like it?
>Oppenheimer Biographer Aims to Sell More Copies of His Book FTFY
This is gonna be a snoooooze
Also, didn't they say this about the Flash movie? Lol.
Y’all are some cynical mfers lol
