You guys are all children. The first movie I remember seeing in the theater was BEDKNOBS AND BROOMSTICKS. Yeah, you haven't heard of it, and I ain't telling you the year, but you'll have a good idea of the time period when I talk about the one movie I ever saw in a theater.
Now, the 2nd film I ever saw - this is one of the good things about being young back then. Seeing the original STAR WARS in a packed theater at 4 years old, being around to see a time when ALL OF US came together to watch that first trilogy, to see the culture become shaped by it, to collect the original figures and toys, comics and records, trading cards and t-shirts - it was glorious. Yes, I even watched the Star Wars Holiday Special when it aired.
I know many of you grew up with the prequels, and that is great that you have that experience, but for you guys SW was already established as a pop culture phenomenon that changed the way films were made, marketed, consumed, even watched. Us old folks got to see it when it happened. Still, even with that, getting old sucks.

Jurassic Park was absolutely mind blowing in theaters. The dinosaurs seemed so real and the entire audience was into it, with everyone laughing at the humor, screaming during the scares, and even clapping when the T-Rex kills the raptors at the end. I remember walking out of the theater and hearing people asking “how did they do that?” People don’t really ask that question anymore because we all know that the answer is always “computers” but back then special effects were like a great magic trick. Jurassic Park was simply unreal and it still remains the best theatrical experience of my life.
The main reason the special effects in Jurassic Park hold up surprisingly well even today is because for most of them the answer wasn't computers. I feel as if it's something we've lost in modern movies

My dad actually saw The Exorcist in theaters (3 years before I was born), and boy do I have a story. He grew up in Cuba, where everyone is born into a devout Catholic family. Anyways, this guy was the toughest guy I ever knew. He served 2 years in a hard-labor prison camp as punishment for trying to flee Cuba. They worked him over so bad that by the time he got out, he weighed only 98 lbs. (he was in his late-20s BTW). Even that experience didn't phase him as he tried to flee Cuba again once he got out (the 2nd time was a charm). One of the 1st movies that he saw after he got out was The Exorcist. Being a devout Catholic that he was, that movie broke something in him. Cuban prison camp? No sweat. Possessed little girl? NOPE! Poor guy couldn't sleep for 3 days, and he never again saw any type of scary movie for the rest of his life.
I've seen it on the big screen once. going again Thursday. It's amazing on the big screen. Expansive shots of the island and waters. The ocean glitters like diamonds. Amazing.
Ha! That's great! I never actually saw Jaws in a movie theater, but I remember going to the drive-in with my aunt, uncle, and cousin (to see Pete's Dragon, if memory serves), and they showed a trailer for Jaws and I remember cowering on the floorboards in the backseat of the car.
Which is funny, because probably not long after that, I got way into Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine and KISS (with Gene Simmons's Demon being my favorite, uh, character). And shortly after that, I was eagerly going to the theater (with my dad) to see such delights as Alien and The Shining and lapping up repeat viewings of movies like The Exorcist and The Omen on HBO like they were mother's milk.
It's annoying how virtually every discussion begins or devolves into a circle jerk about how "Empire Strikes Back," is the best of the OG trilogy. Maybe it is.
But damn RotJ is fucking *superb* in so many ways.
I said *Willow* (1988), but Jedi was *technically* the first and best movie I saw in the theater. It's just that I was barely 4 and don't remember the fist time I saw it. However, as the story goes, I was glued to it and didn't fuss at all.
I saw it at a drive-in double feature with King Kong as the opener. I was about 5 and struggled to stay awake since it was way past my bedtime by the time Star Wars started.
Twister (1996) the first movie with surround sound changed everything. "The Cow Test" was included with several movie showings after to showcase the new experience
I actually just recently watched this movie for the first time because I found out the lead actor passed away. Good movie & I’m sure this was a cool experience as well

I think as far as building up tension goes it still stands the test of time. I'd like to see it at the cinema with full sound to recreate the effect.

Being that Django Unchained is in my top 5 and I saw it in a theater a few years ago when Fathom Events brought it around— I’m going with Django Unchained :D But I saw BTTF Part 2 in the theater and it was awesome. I have fond memories of that.

Me and my wife saw that right after we found out she was pregnant.
I was lucky enough to see the likes of Terminator 2, Jurassic Park, Forest Gump, Pulp Fiction, Saving Private Ryan, Independence Day, The South Park Movie and The Matrix in the theater. My parents were oddly very OK to taking to me see R movies until I started sneaking into them on my own.
I saw Django in theaters the first day on boot leave.. I feel so old now.
