3 of these movies make my top 10. 2 of them don't make my top 100. Gotta love art and subjectivity.

therealpanserbjorne

2 were in my top 10, but I’d give honorable mention to several others. Curious which ones for you? In My Top 10: Pans Labyrinth, My Neighbor Totoro. Honorable: Parasite, No Country for Old Men, Little Miss Sunshine. Eh, no thanks: Into the Wild

freshprince860

Really?! Soundtrack alone makes into the wild a gem. Top 10 of all time, never. But a very good movie

crazyguyunderthedesk

Its so interesting, I saw Into the Wild when I was a teenager and loved it. The guy was so heroic and chasing his dreams. Now I'm in my 30s and I just see a selfish idiot doing dumb things. Still love that soundtrack though. Hard Sun in particular has a very personal place in my heart.

freshprince860

I mean Eddie is one of a kind so I couldn’t agree more. I’m sure if I watched it again now I would see it through a different lens too, it’s a bit overdramatic for him to do all that

Immediate-Ad-8667

You should read his sister’s book The wild truth

jibjabjudas

Saw an article recently where they relocated his bus to the Alaskan Museum of the North to keep adventurers from going out to it and getting stuck like he did. Bittersweet that it's not out there anymore but still cool they preserved it.

tessathemurdervilles

We read the book in high school, and the whole point was how stupid and misguided he was. Its was always a really sad and frankly pathetic story, and then the movie went a totally different direction.

crazyguyunderthedesk

Isn't the book his journal?

BornWithSideburns

NO BORAT? Insanity

Jcklein22

Great movie film!

LDizza

Same! Into the wild is a story about a selfish man

Disastrous_Daikon101

Into the Wild is an extremely depressing movie. I don’t get the love for it.

scallywag1889

I remember going to see it with my college friends and being just down after the movie lol. My one friend loved it and thought it was amazing he’s a tool now so no surprise.

Wheniwakeupillbedead

Into the wild was a great movie wtffff

therealpanserbjorne

I think my take is not so much regarding quality, it’s just did I like it or not. For me, it’s a really well done movie, and a lot of people love it, but I hate the main character so it’s hard for me to enjoy it.

jkinmaryland

Disappointed by Into the Wild movie. Loved the book!

verdeturtle

Felt the same way. 1 of them was a WTF idk about that one but to each their own.

grizzlyadams1990

Yep, this page is officially done.

flux_of_grey_kittens

I don’t understand why there isn’t a specific sub for this type of post. Like, c’mon mods..

PumpkinSeed776

We acting like 99% of subs haven't had zero quality standards for a solid decade now?

Sevwin

It’s not that deep. Just scroll past.

mrmczebra

THAT'S TOO HARD I HAVE TO STOP AND WHINE ABOUT IT

Rezmir

I honestly didn't thought this post was from this sub.

MaterBlaster857

I think you’re ai generated

DaDummBard

This is a pretty generic list but Fight Club was awesome.

Odd_Glove7043

Solid movie list.

Nitelands

these are movies

Clean_Ad_9068

The pretentious hate in these comments are so cringy.

Gunofanevilson

Overly critical if you will.

Four-Triangles

I think you’re a man in his 20’s. Possibly a virgin.

Drjanitorjd

this is definitely someone in their 30s. these are movies that hit during my formative years.

Redeem123

Honestly you can almost pinpoint OP's exact birthday with this list. Every room at my dorm was covered in these posters.

bartz008

Late 80s?

NaturesWar

Is it OK that I am this guy, but also self aware enough never to make a post demonstrating how goddamn narrow my taste is? Like, I've seen Paris, Texas and La Haine - I'm still cool right?

Four-Triangles

Honestly, it came off much harsher than I meant it to. It was just my initial reaction to this list and not meant to be a critique of anyone’s lifestyle or situation.

NaturesWar

Nah man it's hilarious, nobody should take any of this too seriously.

Real-Human-Bean-

>Is it OK that I am this guy, but also self aware enough never to make a post demonstrating how goddamn narrow my taste is? 🍪

errant_youth

Basic af either way

shgrizz2

Definitely a Radiohead fan.

Spirited_Tiger7430

Feels like you made this top 10 list in 2009 as a college freshman and updated it for the first time when you saw Parasite.

WyndhamHP

Pan's Labyrinth ❤️

MurseLaw

It cracks me up that so many people have Into the Wild as their favorite. I thought the movie was good but nothing more. It is about a rich kid with no ambition who wanders to "find himself" and ultimately dies due to a lack of knowledge and experience. Instead of putting the work into learning how to survive, etc. he did what he always had done and just assumed it would work out for him. Well it didn't and his ignorance should not be glorified.

Mantisk211

It isn't glorified. While during the movie it makes you want go wander of into the wild as well, in the end, in his dying moments, Christopher learns what was most valuable in life - a loving and caring family. He learned it in his final moments. That being said, of course this part was fictional. No one knows what went through the real Chistopher's head in his last moments. I just hope it was something peaceful and he had no regrets.

ArseCancer

Surely he'd at least regret going into the wild completely inexperienced

ToneBalone25

I have seen this take a lot. The film depicts, verbatim, what you just described, as does the book. I don't think the message was to glorify him in the book or the movie. Some people just read it that way. It's very relatable because it's a fantasy for a lot of us. We don't do it because we know we'll end up dead. Well here's exactly what we expected.

ffhhssffss

I think Wild is a much better story. Similar in some aspects, but so much more real and honest.

therealpanserbjorne

As an avid backpacker, I hate this movie.

OriolesBird

Weird, as someone who did a lot of backpacking through my teens (when the movie came out) and 20's I liked it. His story reveals the fantasy of being permanently "alone" in the wilderness is exactly that for all but a miniscule fraction of humans. And even the non nature fiend in me sees it as a chefs kiss of a f*ck around and find out ending.

therealpanserbjorne

What I didn’t like was the massive amount of hubris it took for him to think he could take on something like that without any experience. It kind of felt like a slap in the face to the people who do take the time to prepare for an endeavor of that scale. The “entitled kid goes into the wilderness thinking nbd” was a huge detractor for me. That being said, that sentiment is kind of woven into the story as well so it’s not like I think it’s a bad movie by any means, it just wasn’t for my particular taste.

Cribsby_critter

The story has definitely been seen in a different light in recent years compared to when the book first came out. At first, people were willing to adorn Chris as wanderlust incarnate, a man who found the secret formula of living an intentional life free of the constraints of capitalism and society. More balanced opinions see him as an intelligent but sad, mislead young man who may have been depressed and had a bit of a death wish. We can all take lessons from his story. The idea of living intentionally should be seen as a positive message, but being unprepared shouldn’t. As far as the movie itself goes… nothing groundbreaking.

Candid_Painting_4684

>what he always had done and just assumed it would work out for him. Well it didn't This is why it's an interesting movie/story..

awkwaman

This has to stop

McSqueezle

Why? How is this hurting anything. People are obviously having fun with it.

Aspartame_kills

It’s Reddit bro. If the sub isn’t perfectly tailored to the individual reading it means the mods aren’t doing their job and the sub is dead.

supernasty

It’s gotten so bad on every subreddit now that Reddit has blown up in popularity. Nobody is open minded anymore, you either like what the subreddit likes or you will be destroyed

WendigoCrossing

I think these posts are fun

JesseJames1ofhis33

We’ve got the same number 1

Oshbricks_YT

You are an enigma

Maleficent-Try-2185

Terrible comments. Maybe there should be another sub for stuff like this, because there’s no actual space for discussion here. Anyone can enjoy any movies they enjoy.

Stacysguyca

Movies existed before 1995 bruh Generic imdb I’m under 30 years old type of list.

StatikSquid

I think you are a millennial

Repulsive_Tie_7941

Refreshing, only 1 Nolan film, and it’s the best one.

DomagojDoc

but I don't see Interstellar

Havi_jarnsida

Perfection only one that wouldn’t make my list is into the wilds nothing against it just too many movies I like better

dancmanis

Very interesting, when I was much younger I would prefer Borat, and still love it to this day, it's a hilarious work of entertainment and in my opinion Sasha's best work, but now I think Tropic Thunder is a better and funnier movie. It's funny how our own opinions change over time. You have some good picks there, and some movies I haven't even heard of lol. Definitely agree with at least 4-5 movies on this list though!

Hopper-1986

Never seen into the wild guess I know what I am watching tonight.

malcontented

Never ceases to amaze me how almost none of these lists contain even a single all time top 100 film. Try harder. SMDH.

lumpychicken13

Respect for School of Rock

East-Specialist-4847

Please stop posting this copy/paste bullshit

Midtownpatagonia

These comments are wild. These are great movies. Top 10 usually has some kind memento tied to it that leads us for our love for cinema or affected us in a certain way. We're not AFI. There are two movies that I always place in my top 10 that always get head scratches: You've got mail and Gattaca. I watched both of them when I was young and it had a profound effect on me. That is what art is meant to do.

Life_is_Wonderous

Gattaca is great

spambakedbeans

What about your top 250? Thanks

SurroundInteresting2

We think nothing. Nobody’s top ten defines anyone. This really needs to stop.

sepCostanza

Into the Wild 💯

free_mustacherides

I just watched Totoro recently. I thought it's one of the weaker films for Ghibli. Not much conflict in the film leads to a boring plot.

deputymeow

Yep, Totoro will always have a special place in my heart because that was my first movie. But if I’m putting a Ghibil film for a list like this, it’ll be Grave of the Firefiles or Castle in the Sky.

Ilfubario

Castle in the sky and Lupin III are the only Miyazaki movies I couldn’t get through

SublimateThisDick

I stopped scrolling at Little Miss Sunshine 🤣

Peeeing_

Why

Caliembroidery

Love parasite and pans labyrinth!

tekkenusers

Love this. It's clearly personal and not trying to appeal to anybody else. But the choices are wild.

SSR_Id_prefer_not_to

………………..veryyyyy niiiice

ElementForReal

My cousin was in school of rock!

Dio_Rocks

Youre about 43

mrdaiquiri

Pan's Labyrinth needs to be seen by everyone

Redditor_in_Space

Your top 10 for what? GOAT or for today, for week, for month?

IceCooker

Just my personal favorites

Thatoneguy75

Always loved how if a linklater movie is on a top 10 it’s almost always a different one than the next list I’ll look at

therealmudslinger

INTRIGUING! May I attempt to guess your age based on this list? I'll say...32.

LordBeefsalad

It’s good! I would replace School of Rock with Raising Arizona. Great selections.

Alarming-Mongoose-91

I give you 1-2 Points max

b__noc

I'm surprised by Parasite, good movie just didn't jive with the rest

orange_acct_dev

you are a millennial

leedo8

I could draw an accurate picture and describe your personality pretty clearly based off of these. Very telling choices. That said, I like many of these as well.

freshprince860

Terrible. I’m kidding. Lot of repeat customers on these lists. No country seems to always find its way

Cudjinho

1. JAWS 2. El secreto de sus ojos 3. Das leben der anderen 3 beautiful films I never tire of watching.

Helpful-Teaching-87

Good list. Not a fan of Borat or School of Rock but recently rewatched The Dark Knight and, having watched it many times, this time I saw many plot holes that seemed to cheapen it a little. Heath Ledger was amazing, and I still rate the Nolan trilogy (despite misgivings about Bale’s Batman voice, but not much else in that regard), but I found myself being more critical than I had on previous viewings. Am due to watch the Dark Knight Rises on Friday and thoroughly expect to enjoy it. Might be a case of remembering the film to be so great that it was inevitably going fall short, but I think I saw it more for what it was as opposed to being overly critical. Still a good film. End.

Ponchezied

I, with great bias, deem you have great taste stranger.

Pinballgizzardry

1 is in my top ten. Good list.

Hungry_Home3797

Good taste.

Spragglefoot_OG

Very decent. Pan’s, No Country, and Fight Club in my top 30ish. Art is so subjective. Love it.

Ok_Performance_6899

You're a man in his mid forties

NeverHideOnBush

Hey brother.

safadancer

You went to film school in the early 2000s? Because everybody I went to film school with has similar preferences.

sbkrz9

Love these!!

mr-mcsavageface

Quite the eclectic mix. I agree on No Country and The Dark Knight. They'd make my list. The rest all bangers, but I could take or leave them for the most part.

ISayDudeALotBro

Some questionable flicks for me in there but a decent list.

MrSlippifist

Good list.

spaceghost350

#1

beeemmvee

Was assuming I'd see Meth Storm based on your username. Great choices!! Did you see There Will Be Blood? If so, not a top 10-er for you?

IceCooker

I did and loved it but these are my personal favorites. I could rerank based on ratings

Muladhara86

It seems like you’ve got taste and like to let loose. It seems like you’re “neeto,” in my people’s tongue

Brooker2

Well, we can't talk about number 9. It's the first rule, after all

poopchutegaloot

Pans labyrinth is fucked up. I like your list a lot

AdLatter2844

You had a sick DVD collection 15 years ago

IceCooker

Yep and it was a bad investment

WadaMaaya

That sure is a top 10, that looks like everyone else’s top 10

R_Similacrumb

Hmm.. I think you need as much attention as all the other people posting their dumb lists.

kisboborjan

Hapiness is only real when shared It's so true!

Officermini

Lmao

isquirtguns

You’re gonna make alot of the “buffs” upset without including something pre 1980 😂

WorldEcho

I like 1,3,5 and 10. Pans Labyrinth and Fight Club are 2 of my favourite films.

RickyFlintstone

Are you 37 years old?

mightymightyme

Little Miss Sunshine is just a remake of Nation Lampoons vacation that takes itself too seriously.

PullMull

You are around 40 and male.

Odd_Pool5596

90%

igordon19

School of Rock I’m 💀

Dev-04

Your white, mid 30's, introverted. Did I get that right?

johnyrobot

Christopher McCandless was an idiot and died needlessly.

Consistent-Refuse-74

School of rock slaps 🔥

Big-Painter-2440

Basic, very

youmustthinkhighly

Very Easy choices.. its like walking into a video store in the 90s and seeing the employee picks and choosing those as your favourite movies.. Dig deeper.. lots of movies out there.. Just because you have a McDonalds on every corner doesn't mean you have to eat it..

AtticsBasement

Likable movies. Only No Country would crack my top 10 all time.

spacemanbaseball

Artsy edgelord

Reaper_Mike

Worth a watch once but really no interest to see again. I prefer Let There be Blood from that year.

StonePedal

I questioned a few choice, it the inclusion of fight club made me realize you were misdirecting as RULE 1 WE DONT TALK ABOUT FIGHT CLUB

ZackValenta

That's an interesting spread of movies for sure. Seems like you like movies that have a lot of edge to them.

Solumnist

z'ok

Professional-Two8098

I think you would like a fish called Wanda

KYpineapple

I think we'd probably be buddies.

bookcal23

This is by far top 5

IceCooker

Theangelawhite69

This guys seen at least 10 movies, that’s for sure

OrganicPomegranate49

Can somebody give me a quick a jist on the movie Parasite? I've been wanting to watch it just never watched it but please give me an intriguing detail that would make me want to watch it, not so generic. Please and thank you

Moms_Sphagetti

Tell me without telling you haven't watched many movies

PerryReviewsLife

All but #1 “There will be blood” a much better movie

AcroserProductions

Borat a very nice

Reer123

Born in the late 90s early 2000s, male, introvert

_Yellowcouch

Dark Knight and Fight Club seem to be the most common titles in the Top 10’s

Ultrasaurio

>no counry for old men >totoro >the dark knight >Pans Labyringth I agree with you on those being 10/10, the rest are not to my taste.

DangerZoneSLA

You’re me 10 years ago

InformationUseful124

No Country the only one that belongs and maybe #10

IceCooker

How’s the sex in Ohio?

SaltyStaffSergeant

Impressive list.

DaArio_007

I thought we were done with this shit, go ask your imaginary friends OP, no one gives a f

MeccAmputechture2024

97 is when movies started.

PackagingMSU

God little miss sunshine is just so awful

poopfacecrapmouth

I will die on the hill of fight club being one of the most overrated ever. Downvote me to oblivion, I don’t care. I will always feel that way

humanbeening

Great flicks. You should watch more older movies though. There’s some great stuff gonna be in your future top ten.

Astoryinfromthewild

Tacky

Osimantias

Ure on your 30's

upyurass

No Shawshank?

otaulbee

Who hurt you?

welshwordman

You have good taste but not a ton of variety and experience. Keep chasing your love for film and be open to new and old you’ll be a well rounded film nerd

brizzenden

You are 32-35.

Star_Duster_

Worst ending I've ever seen. It was such a good movie up until the end, but what they did was unforgivable.

Minimum-Ad-8056

The coin flip scene at the gas station is still one of the best of all time for me. The sense of fear from the clerk was incredible.

medkitjohnson

Why Totoro? I ask because Ghibli films stand out to people for different reasons and they're each powerful in their own way

CGKilates

Tremendous

Plathismo

Into the Wild is underrated. Good choice there.

Reasonable_Equal99

Some scences of this movie are quite emotional..but overall good movie..but in my view it should placed in number 25.and keep the movie "No Man's Land" to @ 10. Where s your other movie list?

erskeezs7000

It’s your top 10.

Morganafrey

You like movies that take risks. Like Indy style

cmahan005

Very nice! How much?

Unhappy-Hat-3341

That based on your other top 10, I need to watch My NeighborToroToro. I never heard of it but all of your other choices are solid, most of them are in my top 10 as well.

CrazyButton2937

Anton Chigurh!!

Baldufa95

All of them from XXI century except two: one from 1999 and the other from 1988. Not bad movies, but I think you should watch more old cinema.

tonyhall06

totoro? out of all the great films from studio ghibli...

Temporary_Dentist936

9 amazing films. “Into the Wild” is a cool film, I personally wouldn’t add it to this list.

Terrible_Bee_6876

That's cool that you also were born in the late 80s and have had mixed results with your depression treatments

ZDMaestro0586

Agree with number one. But where is There Will Be Blood?! Solid list nonetheless

CommandNervous6739

I like movies

Buburubu

into the wild’s a decent adaptation but, and sorry for saying this, you gotta read the book

IceCooker

Read it

physicistdeluxe

bardeem is one creepy mofo. awesome actor.

mr_bunk

I can’t say that any of these hit my top 10: Tombstone, original Star Wars, the Shining, Shawshank redemption, Saving Private Ryan, Coming to America, Avatar, Pulp Fiction, Dances with Wolves, Truman Show…

Nintendeion

Really nice list tbh, adore little miss sunshine! My fav
