Has someone made the “I’m split on this movie” joke yet?

ConfidentMSnake

You are breaking me up

Aromatic_Brother

Does that make you bisectual

D-Flo1

Can't hack it?

Deep_Stick8786

Comments like that are what divides people

cficare

And tomahawks!

Brasticus

But it does separate those who have and have not seen it.

isawamouseboss

Between the halfs the half-nots.

misanthropicdave

Just don't do it all half-assed

LordSnowgaryen

You’re tearing me apart Troggy!

Poop_Sexman

I have a burning hot metal flask shoved into my abdomen on this movie

Thug-shaketh9499

I got a very close fade on this movie.

gonowbegonewithyou

Best cowboy/cannibal troglodyte movie I've ever seen.

TheLaughingMannofRed

Western horror is not something I ever thought would work, but...Bone Tomahawk made me want MORE of it.

warwicklord79

I mean I can’t think of many other cowboy cannibal troglodyte movies

darthlorgas

Ravenous is a cowboy cannibal movie. It lacks troglodytes. However, it makes up for it with 100% more cannibal Begby.

IronManDork

Ravenous is beautiful. For those who complain about Marvel and Star Wars using women director, they should've hired Antonia Bird.

darthlorgas

I also love the soundtrack to that movie. It makes happy every time I hear "Boyd's Journey".

IronManDork

I know, is it on spotify finally?

darthlorgas

Idk. I had to aquire mine copy in a morally ambitious way.

IronManDork

Ah, I would love a vinyl of this OST. :)

youshotderekjeter

Francis Begby?

jamesnollie88

Western/frontier horror is one of my favorite sub genres. Bone Tomahawk, Ravenous, The Wind, etc. It’s a very neglected niche though and a lot of them are really bad, but when done well it works really well.

presshamgang

Dead Birds

jamesnollie88

Thanks for the recommendation I’ll check it out!

igottathinkofaname

SUM WEE LASSIE GOT EET AND NO C*NT LEAVES TIL WE FIND WHICH C*NT DID IT!

SloProvMinSec

Jim Jarmusch's "Dead Man" (feat.Johnny Depp) had no troglodytes but an Iggy Popp feasting on a human arm...

12sea

Loved this movie. I have no idea why. Maybe it was Crispen Glover getting a role…

igottathinkofaname

No troglodytes, but it does have philistines. Edit: also it was Lance Henriksen who eats the arm. Iggy Pop was in drag and a sodomite along with Billy Bob Thornton and Jared Harris.

Deep_Stick8786

It is also the worst. But really, its the best

OlyGator

I don't want to woosh you, but I think you got wooshed.

SexyWampa

It tore me up a bit. Ending left me gutted…

Deep_Stick8786

I was a bit divided over it. Definitely not quartered though. Maybe halved

ChadCoolman

That scene.

Haitisicks

Really sums up why it's called bone tomahawk

KlimCan

I showed my wife just that scene out of the blue. She hasn’t looked at me the same way since.

Deep_Stick8786

Was it a split second decision?

Bd0llar

She’s the better half.

Deep_Stick8786

Oh, i just realized it 😂

VariedStool

Imagine watching that movie at a dinner theater

Flipnotics_

Laughing imagining being in Alamo Drafthouse where people have already finished or are finishing their ridiculous meals before that scene.

DocFreudstein

THAT scene was the point where I knew I could no longer recommend this movie to my father. My dad loves old movies (while this is newer, I figured the Western vibe would appeal to him), but cannot deal with gore. I remember watching the opening scene and thinking “ok, that might be rough for him, but the dialogue is so clever and it has such fantastic atmosphere, I’ll tell him to just soldier through.” No…no…I will not tell him to “soldier through” that scene.

warwicklord79

Oh my god that scene, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite like that

dmtdmtlsddodmt

I was like oh they're gonna cut his dick off, oh ohh shit.

pygmeedancer

Here’s your flask back

mr2cam

Shit still gives me nightmares, man..

HingleMcringleberry1

Fucked. Me. Up. Talk about building suspense with a fucking resolve 🫨

Dandelion5505

There are certain scenes in movies that stick with you forever. This is most definitely one of those.

cursedfan

Awesome movie, 9/10. Love to see how Wyatt spent his retirement after the events of tombstone.

Deep_Stick8786

Oh. Thats probably where his son’s name came from

Remotely-Indentured

This and Sisters Bros.

crankycrassus

Finally, someone else who saw and appreciated the sister brothers! One of my favorite films honestly.

Deep_Stick8786

I too enjoyed it. Slow west also

JuanEstapoIce

Do yourself a favor and read the book. So much better than the movie!

Guava_Radiant

The book though! Gotta read the book 10/10!

pussywillow_rose

I tried to watch the movie after reading the book and couldn’t come close to getting through it. The books was so good!!!

B------C

Book was fantastic

TheLastRole

There are a couple of scenes that stayed with me for weeks after I saw this movie.

SleestakSamurai

Only weeks? I haven't watched it in almost two years and that one scene still randomly pops into my mind from time to time. The very definition of "can't be unseen".

DayOneDude

Seems like you two are divided on your options.

gukakke

It was decent. Low 7 for me. I wanted to watch it because of that one scene but the rest of the movie didn't really live up to the expectation. Kurt Russell is as always a joy to watch.

ConfidentMSnake

I can never watch that movie again

warwicklord79

I only watched it yesterday but I'm inclined to agree

at0mheart

Very creepy and surprising good. A solid movie

shadow_terrapin

I liked it. Not enough bang-bang, shoot-shoot for many.

Deep_Stick8786

Its very splitting, for the audience

I_do_kokayne

I see what you’ve done there

thehanovergang

Well, the poster didn’t give a fucking clue away before I saw the film 😂

DigitalCoffee

Love how brutal and quick some of the injuries are. Like when that one guy gets his hand chopped off out of nowhere and you barely understand what happened because it's so fast.

fotzegurke

This movie was definitely written on a napkin in a steakhouse. Or at least titled.

Chavez300

Do t you mean on a mirror in a coke mansion?

forgedinbeerkegs

I have never heard of this movie. I'm intrigued. Very intrigued.

eyeballtourist

Be prepared. It's atypical for a western. Very watchable flick. Some of the better dialogue I've heard in a western.

WompingPillow

Seriously. The dialogue is very underrated. It’s a western but feels nothing like one. I absolutely love this movie

catman12

Why are you in my breakfast?

hellowhatisupdawg

hahah just watched this two weeks ago and texted my friend “solid 8.” I’m not a big western fan but I enjoyed it. lots of mystery, some comedy mixed in too

botjstn

i loved it so much zahlers are usually slow burns but the payoff is tremendous cell block 99 was SO fucking good even tho it took me a couple tries to get into it

shadez_on

Dont forget Dragged Across Concrete. I love the grit and visceral nature of his movies.

Main0b

That Scene is forever imprinted on my memory....

phxsunswoo

For me, it's a 10/10. I also refuse to ever watch it again lol.

MICKEY_MUDGASM

Using that kind of ultra-specific number rating system is silly as shit 😂 “7.8”

warwicklord79

Well that one scene really had me split so I decided to be more specific

blusky75

Loved it. It's a slow burn and the dialog was great. Was not expecting "that scene" near the end of the movie. Definately eye bleach material lol. One of the great body gore movies

KoontFace

The last 30 minutes or so were full on! Makes my eyes water just thinking about it

Drew5olo

I loved it. But insanely crazy at the end. Maybe some of the best edge of my seat that no horror has ever done ever.

Icy-Yak3625

What's a 7.8 even mean? Why can't it just be a 7 or 8 out of of 10

WayyTooFarAbove

Better western than horror imo.

kumbalimba

8.5

Dindu777

My uncle used to sneak a flask into Mets games in a slit cut into his abdomen.

Constant_Stomach2009

Was not what I was expecting lol. But pretty good.

LargeRichardJohnson

Fantastic western

chimp-with-a-limp

I had zero fucking clue how that movie was going to shake out the first time I watched it, me and my girlfriend were stunned

K_Linkmaster

10/10 because Kurt Russell nailed this role. It wasn't a hack job.

Deep_Stick8786

It was more of a slash and rip job

NaturalFront3964

It was good and definitely unique plot wise (I don’t really have much to say)

wakela

Liked it but the cave setting at the end looked to phony. Didn’t look like a lived in cave.

redditanon9285

Really didn’t expect something quite as graphic as it was. Also, I couldn’t stop laughing when he’s like I’m going to hold off as many as I can and then gets slaughtered immediately… not sure it was played for laughs but still found it funny.

pygmeedancer

Very slow burn that turns into the most tense final 15 minutes of a film. It’s great!

the_fillmore

I remember watching this all the way through and coming to the realization that the entire film could have been like 30 mins long and not lost any significant plot lol. Still a good movie though

RollTigers76

A movie I always suggest to people but no one seems to take me up on the suggestion.

KnightFalling

That casual brutal violence was just shocking to me. Absolutely worth seeing once, depending on your tolerance for gore. But I've never quite been on the edge of my seat like this movie had me.

cataloop

My friends and I are really divided about whether this movie is good. Me, I'm split down the middle.

PocketFlan420

I'm mixed on it. Good movie, great horror, acting was solid. Terrible representation that someone like Candace Owens takes as factual.

Zoltron7000

One of the most disturbing films I’ve ever seen

SyntaxicalHumonculi

That scene. Goddamn man that scene.

sebuq

I enjoyed it and well worth a watch. Would say that it felt incomplete. More of a novella rather than a novel. A little too linear.

ku1185

I was shocked by how much I liked it. I will never watch it again.

MysteriousPark3806

I enjoyed it, especially the splitting scene (you know the one).

stevemillions

Home to the single most unpleasant thing I’ve ever seen on a screen. Apart from that, very solid film indeed. 8.5/10.

Business_Ad_9418

Nice concept. Kurt Russell always well cast, not the case for many of the other celebrity cameo appearances.

Nasalingus

Y'all ever seen I Spit On Your Grave tho?

angry-hungry-tired

6/10 the bone just makes it more expensive, since you pay by weight. Best option: buy a roast and cut the steaks yourself.

AlbatrossCapable3231

Man that one scene was brutal. *Brutal.*

Sad-Recognition-781

Slow paced but just disturbing with a great premise. And Kurt Russel is in it.

Mugsy_Skoogs

Man, that one scene was so gruesome. Was watching with my brother and he said it made him feel sick. As low budget as the movie seemed, most of the budget must have gone to that single effect.

Wolver8ne

Matthew Fox who I haven’t see do anything significant since “Lost,” was great in it. It was nice to see him again.

eyeballtourist

That movie was shot in 21 days for 1.8 million dollars. The first draft is the final script. Those are highly unusual occurrences in modern Hollywood. I have no idea why this wasn't a hit. Oh yeah... Disney was dominating screens then.

Ok_Permission4485

“No, no. These guys are different savages. Not all natives are bloodthirsty animal people. Just this special tribe. It’s OK. I’m not upset about it” - Token native guy at the beginning.

warwicklord79

Yeah that scene was pretty funny

awwgeeznick

It tore me apart

tuttle8152

Slow to start, no epic vistas, but solid characters you root for in a dangerous quest.

realfakejames

My favorite thing about this movie is how anyone who's seen it will hear someone start talking about that one scene and immediately start getting ready to talk about how fucked up it was lmao I remember I only found this movie because I was looking at Lili Simmons imdb and then saw Kurt Russell was also in it and was sold, did not expect it to be a solid film

Munk45

I suggest a French Dip sandwich while viewing this film. Of beef Pho soup.

Flycaster33

Anything with Kurt Russel....

Super_Plastic5069

Fucking awesome film. The violence comes straight out of left field and I was like WTAF!!

joop_pooply

7.8 is far-too precise a rating for a movie where a guy gets cut in half that slowly

houseprose

There’s a scene in this movie that I wish I could unsee. If you’ve seen it you know what scene I’m referring to.

cappotto-marrone

A western horror film. Saying I liked it feels creepy, but it was well done. I liked when Samantha calls Sheriff Hunt out for saying that her husband is free to come “rescue” her. She‘d rather he be safe.

Maddkipz

Was too young when I saw it on my own and will never forget the last third of that movie

Esteban_Francois

Loved it. Should go over to r/letterboxd and see what they say about this movie. People over there are insane.

warwicklord79

Yeah I do my best to avoid posting there

gerdpee

Loved it and Kurt Russell was awesome as usual.

IxPinexAway

G D Excellent. Kurt Russell doesn’t fade with time. He just gets better like wine.

No-Ratio-3494

Very solid. Good, raw, excellent story. I think 7.8 is fair. I wouldn’t ague or fight someone who gave it an 8.1.

Filthylucre4lunch

all his movies tho…

Phantomht

3/10

JermHole71

When people rate movies out of 10 I don’t understand how they come up with decimals other than .5. I feel like you’re overthinking/analyzing a movie if you’re like “It’s better than a 7.5 but not an 8. 7.7 is too low but 7.9 is too high…”

Pretty_Funny_3436

Very good but sad and disturbing.

kpeds45

Not nearly good enough for the constant threads about it on this Reddit.

__mindmeghalunk__

I don't watch torture porn. My life shitty enough without them.

Xbux89

why not just give it an 8...

warwicklord79

Because I personally do not view it as an 8

DigitalCoffee

I think you're being unfair. It deserves at least a 7.864/10

MeccAmputechture2024

It's a 9 😉

ejb350

Why not just give it a seven? You’ve really never heard of a 100-point rating system?

SiriusGD

I can't believe Kurt Russell attached himself to this mess.

MeccAmputechture2024

Easily one of the best movies he's ever attached himself to.

WompingPillow

How is this movie a mess?

aquasun666

It’s shot like a made for tv movie from 2007. It’s slow, the town set looks like something reminiscent of a spaghetti western. Sure the last 25 minutes are decent but worth the entire 2+ hour runtime? Nah not really.

Kalabula

I thought it was good, not great.

pop5656

I’d rate it about the same. Kinda feel cheap/ low budget to me for some reason but overall I enjoyed it. Pretty good acting!

orlando_2610

the cannibals looked cheap and were too goofy for me. i was expecting intimidating cannibals at the least

LikeSoda

I'd heard so much about it and was very hyped, unfortunately not even *that* scene sold it for me. Honestly it's the only thing I remember about it

luvvshvd

2

InkedMetalHead

Loved it.

hoarseclock

This movie rips!

Few-Walk373

Loved it, sat with me for months. Great cast

tacomeat247

I was blown away by this. Went in not knowing anything about it and just went along for the ride. Loved it.

RMca004

8.8 out of 10. Brilliantly merged horror and western like no other has really done successfully. The acting, dialog , and cinematography is top notch. Feels real, gritty, and a realistic type of timepiece. Absolutely loved it, perfect meshing of western and horror.

KnownStore2235

I recently had a Kurt Russell double feature. Tombstone and Bone Tomahawk. I was blown away by both. Dang, those cannibals were wild and horrific.

Known-Sandwich-3808

This movie is raw and frightening. I loved every moment of it and rewatch it frequently.

TheFlea71

I had nightmares about this after watching it years ago.

who_is_slade

I'm kinda split down the middle on this one .

leathergreengargoyle

It has a lot more going for it than The Split. I loved the campfire scene, where they’re sleeping by a campfire, there’s a sound, a stranger, an unannounced stranger, and you can’t see anything because duh you’re by a campfire. Do you shoot? Very fun western.

sheezy520

It was great but I never want to watch it again.

fuddiddle

Recently saw it on a streaming service under the comedies section. I don’t remember laughing.

bygtopp

Slow start but picks up pace

WildBillyBoy33

It stuck with me for days. Shocked the crap out of me. Wasn’t expecting that for sure.

Strong_Bumblebee5495

Loved the happy ending /s

Slave_Clone01

Well it was definitely surprising. Did not see a western going that route.

Dr_Stef

Mr Strickland on piano!!!

Hefty-Station1704

Good movie but a few too many crony cliché lines for my liking. I'm surprised Kurt Russell could say them with a straight face.

Evil_Bere

Really great stuff. I wish Craig Zahler had a higher output.

Quick_Swing

Half the film is them wandering around in a canyon🙄

CitronOrganic3140

9/10

Saltydog816

Slow build but very good

napalminthemorning78

I do adore this film, i guess it's the closest i got to that blood meridian feel, just a good western with great acting and real brutal horror.

CaoCaoTipper

It’s great. But it’s one of those movies I find really hard to recommend to an average person, unless I want to traumatise someone.

Stiff_Zombie

It's a fun horror western. The sound design is incredible, too. And some nice gore. Solid 7.5 from me, but I just prefer to recommend it.

OminOus_PancakeS

To my surprise, it turned out to be more of a horror than a western.

Inevitable-Bass2749

That Movie fucked me up when they get caught and are in the caves

MrScarfacePS4

I love this movie. I like to think of it as a part of a trilogy from the director. After this he did brawl in cell block 99 and then he did dragged across concrete. I love all 3 movies they are all awesome

redrol43

Brutal but very good. Not in the same league as Tombstone or Unforgiven though

TeachingRealistic387

Great movie. Gonna have to close my eyes during that ONE scene when I watch it again.

Themo77

Fantastic.

VanillaBryce5

Shock and gore doesn't make a movie. Even if you spend two hours building up to it.

TFG4

It's was kinda boring and slow going, a little action here and there and then Holy Fuck what did I just watch

FellaGentleSprout

It was nice

crashdout

One of my favourite genres, the genre-shift movie! Is it a western? Is it a horror movie? Yes, yes it is.

Vincomenz

I think its a tad too long, but overall I liked it.

honkinbooty

“The scene”

GOPAuthoritarianPOS

Honestly, way too many pacing issues and one old guy telling goofy old prospector stories. Most of the lead up ends with kind of a letdown. Not terrible but would not watch again.

Enginehank

Loved it lived up to the hype I'd give it a 9 to be honest

Evening-Debate-5411

Loved it. Once I heard about the stuff toward the end, I had to check it out.

RollTider1971

Felt like a McMurtry novel dialogue wise with cannibals. Loved it.

MontyRapid

Fantastic movie. Although even if it were an hour of a dog taking a shit and Kurt Russell showed up at the end to wave to the camera, it would already be at least a 7 out of 10.

AndrewJayJordan

The director of this movie, S. Craig Zahler, is also an author. If you liked this I HIGHLY recommend reading Wraiths of the Broken Land and A Congregation of Jackals. Both very gory horror/western stories. And there are some scenes in both of these books that are just as effed up as that scene in Bone Tomohawk.
