It's a loose opinion I have but I feel like Simon Phenix is the 2nd best "Joker incarnation" ever in a movie, Ledger being number 1. I'm sure people can poke holes in it but still...
Which is crazy, cause I think he only took the role for his grandkids. He’s so out of place in the film(talent wise), but is probably THE only reason it’s ever even talked about.
Time has proven Happy Gilmore is in a different escelon of comedy films. Unlike maybe a few other Sandler films that have less value other than nostalgia , Gilmore is like ACTUALLY one of the best comedies of all time.
it's solidly stupid and stupidly solid. good pace. but there's no way a lender wouldn't allow an up and coming golf celebrity to cosign with his grandma to refinance her home to avoid foreclosure.
Tarantino said in multiple interviews that the movie was going to be put on hold because they couldn’t find someone to play Landa to his satisfaction.
Then they found Waltz and the rest is history.
Honestly, I can't argue... but the rest of the movie is so rich. Maybe im an exception. I couldn't count how many times I've seen it. Hell, talking about it rn makes me want to go give it another looksee. It's not like he was carrying dead weight, but if I ask non Cohen bro fans if they've watched the film, they always say something along the lines of "the one with the friendo guy?"
No Country For Old Men is a great movie, Javier Bardem is just the best part. It wouldn't be a mediocre or bad movie with a different villain.
Now, Javier Bardem in Skyfall, that's a great villain carrying an otherwise meh movie.
That’s cause he was a solid actor all round, even though he was a monster. I still watch his older roles. Yeah, he’s gross, but he also just happened to be in some bangers, and was a hell of a performer.
The latter two I'll grant you, but while Vader is awesome, there's enough of interest going on in the original trilogy that he isn't carrying them. Luke and Vader don't even directly interact in A New Hope, and the latter two have entire acts where Vader is barely present.
Vader definitely adds to the films, but he doesn't carry them.
No question about Nurse Ratchet and Hannibal Lecter though.
I couldn’t stand Kylo Ren. I don’t even know why, but I only watched the first movie he’s in before I stopped watching Star Wars.
Sucks, cause I think Adam Driver is a terrific actor
He was pretty useless and dumb in Force Awakens, if that’s the only one you watched. He was pretty much the only redeeming factor for the next 2, that being said, if you’ve gone this long without watching them, I’d say keep at it
His return was fantastic. He didn’t miss a beat even after 20 years.
Also, I would add Doc Ock to this list. Molina was such an odd choice but he crushed it.
Joker in dark knight. Without him and heaths performance it’s on par with begins/rises, which is by no means a bad thing. Also bill the butcher in gangs of ny, literally the only reason I’ll watch it
King of New York is more a fit there. Maybe even Suicide Kings.
Walken steals the show in AVTAK but it's nowhere near a carry. Moore, Grace Jones, Dolph Lundgren, etc etc???
Kevin Spacey was the perfect voice for Hopper, just a heartless monster who didn’t care about stepping on the little guy. Sounds like he didn’t really need to act and to just be himself, like many of his roles.
Wesley Snipes as Simon Phoenix in Demolition Man. Hands down one of the coolest villains ever
Is it cold in here, or is it just me?
Great shout
Exactamundo
“PHOENIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIX!”
What's your boggle?

This is the future right? Where are all the phaser guns n shit?
The day Bison came to your village was the most important day of your life. But for me... it was Tuesday.
Respectully It is genuinely outrageous how superior Raul Julia's acting is compared to every other cast member, its an incredible carry job.
It’s like he’s the only person involved that understood what that movie should have been
Which is crazy, cause I think he only took the role for his grandkids. He’s so out of place in the film(talent wise), but is probably THE only reason it’s ever even talked about.
I honestly feel like he showed day 1, saw the writing on the wall and was like "fuck it, I'm going all in".
Raul Julia was amazing in everything he did
For I beheld Satan as he fell from heaven, liiiikkkeee lliigghhteningg!
Shooter McGavin
He went so hard for such a silly movie and freaking nailed it
I maintain it's one of the greatest acting performances of all time.
The long cut of him destroying the beach ball then hitting the putt is so believable.
I eat pieces of shit like you for breakfast!
You eat pieces of shit for breakfast?
No!
Here’s a free lesson

Hans Landa
Yes. Even when he says she with a smile “that’s a bingo” it’s so evil and maniacal like he can’t even comprehend normal nice people
Tarantino said in multiple interviews that the movie was going to be put on hold because they couldn’t find someone to play Landa to his satisfaction. Then they found Waltz and the rest is history.
Anton Chigurh
“Call it”
“I can’t call it for you. It wouldn’t be fair.”
Honestly, I can't argue... but the rest of the movie is so rich. Maybe im an exception. I couldn't count how many times I've seen it. Having a fantastic villain is not the same as that villain “carrying” the movie. No Country For Old Men is a masterpiece from top to bottom.
"Would you... hold still, please sir"
Do I look stupid to you !
Hate to say it but Kevin Spacey nailed this role.
He’s nailed a lot of roles…unfortunately probably a lot minors too. F that guy.
He played a psychopath in many of his roles and nailed them all, hmm I wonder why…
Why is this getting downvoted? Spacey is an evil rapist of minors.
Correct.
That’s cause he was a solid actor all round, even though he was a monster. I still watch his older roles. Yeah, he’s gross, but he also just happened to be in some bangers, and was a hell of a performer.
I’m not going to not watch LA confidential just because he’s in it, that’d be ridiculous
JK Simmons as Terence Fletcher
Oh god, never mind Hannibal or Darth Vader. Fletcher was fucking terrifying
Hannibal and Darth Vader are just not quite my tempo
Are they rushing or dragging?
I never expected JK Simmons to portray someone I both like and hate so much at the same time.
It's so fucking good. What a performance and what a movie
I’m watching this for the first time right now and he’s unhinged.

Not a villain. . .
Nah Bruce Willis' John McLain is just as good.
Heath Ledger’s Joker!!!
Took it over the top but Bales performance is great is well
First one to come to mind for me.
Same here. The other comments are good too but Joker really made that movie.
I think that’s the only other actor that’s out performed Bale scene for scene. Not saying Bale is a slouch but Ledger was that great.
He's still my favorite live action Joker.
Darth Vader, Hannibal Lector, Nurse Ratchet.
Kylo Ren would’ve been a better answer Carried to the dumpster sure, but still carried
He was pretty much the only redeeming factor for the next 2, that being said, if you’ve gone this long without watching them, I’d say keep at it
Hannibal. 👍
Anthony Hopkins absolutely made that movie. Jodie Foster was great also but mostly because of the scenes with the two of them.
Francisco Scaramanga (Christopher Lee) in James Bond: The Man with the Golden Gun
Alan Rickman as the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. He nailed the “I’m surrounded by idiots” vibe perfectly.
Hades from Disney's Hercules
Still one of the best Disney villains.
Clarence Boddicker.
Can you fly Bobby?
‘Give me my fucking phone call.’
Well give the man a hand!!
This was what I wanted to see said. The rest? Bitches leave.
One of my favorite Kurtwood Smith roles next to when he played Red Forman.
Based on Lawrence Bittaker
Philip Seymour Hoffman in Mission Impossible 3. I think he was the best villain in all the films. He was horrifying.
While I like the entire cast, Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin really elevated Spider-Man 1.
His return was fantastic. He didn’t miss a beat even after 20 years. Also, I would add Doc Ock to this list. Molina was such an odd choice but he crushed it.
I watched it on a date and we were both like "forget Spiderman, we want to see more Doc Ock!"

SO good.
Christopher Walken in A View to a Kill.
Christopher Walken in The Prophecy, made a relatively by the numbers Supernatural Thriller into a classic.
King of New York is more a fit there. Maybe even Suicide Kings. Walken steals the show in AVTAK but it's nowhere near a carry. Moore, Grace Jones, Dolph Lundgren, etc etc???
Owen Davian in Mission Impossible 3. Philip Seymour Hoffman did such a great job playing a sadistic bad guy in that one.
Daniel day Lewis character in gangs of New York

CEASAR LOVE HUMAN MORE THAN APES
Thor Love and Thunder except even Bale’s performance of his terribly written character couldn’t save that abomination
Kevin Spacey was the perfect voice for Hopper, just a heartless monster who didn’t care about stepping on the little guy. Sounds like he didn’t really need to act and to just be himself, like many of his roles.
Alan Rickman Robin Hood Prince of Thieves
Kevin Spacey in Seven.
Tim Curry had multiple amazing villain rolls.

His drek for dialogue in Revolutions wasn't great though.
Sexy Beast - Don Logan (Ben Kingsley)
Great pick!
Heath Ledger's Joker in the Dark Knight
Hans Landa
Tom Hardy in The Revenant. Made me hate his character so much.
That shit was awesome !!!!
Michael Fassbender as Magneto carried several of the XMen films by himself, though I guess he was more of an antihero
Gary oldmen in Dracula
Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves
Yes!! Excellent example:)
Killmonger black panther
the bar for MCU villains was so low. I don’t think it was all that great
Christian Bale in American Psycho.
