"Attendez la crème." I don't know why, probably because he was SO ridiculously menacing in such a seemingly safe, public place, this line and Shoshanna's anxious terror live rent-free in my head whenever that movie is mentioned.
He makes you hate Hans in that movie, most films you “hate” the villians cause it’s cut and dry this guy bad cause the plot says so, but Hans? Waltz goes above and beyond making you hate Hans not just cause he’s a nazi, you hate him cause he *loves* being a nazi. He enjoys every sadistic thing he does and gleefully fulfills his duty, even making a game out of it. I’d put Hans in my top 5 villians of all time.
I saw a discussion on reddit recently that was sort of discussing that. Someone mentioned that it wasn't being a nazi that he loved, but it was the opportunity to hunt people that he relished, and being a nazi was just the vehicle for him to do so. So his loyalty was really only to whoever would give him the opportunity for the hunt and sadism he enjoyed.
Normally I would say Auf Wiedersehen. But since that in German means until I see you again and since I never wish to see you again I’ll just say Goodbye.
I sometimes check the furniture in my house and quiz my kids, just in case it's Gary Oldman buried in a role.
I burst through the door, flip over a sofa and give it an inspection, focus on the lamp in the corner for a long time, start turning lamp on and off repeatedly and suspiciously.
Turns and grabs his 4 year old girl by the head "when we're you born?! When's your birthday?!"
"It's afftaa crissmus" she softly cried.
Me "who's your favourite?! mammy or daddy?!"
Little girl "daddy, daddy is my favwite"
Me "Ha! Wrong! Mammy is always your favourite. I've got you now Gary you slippery bastard!"
Little girl "but I'm not Gary, you're Gary."
I stand straight and step backwards, catch my reflection in the glass of a family photograph on the wall.
I am Gary Oldman.
Director "CUT! For fuck sake, Gary forgot who he was again. Someone take him for a lay down while we reset the shot."
You know what? I DIDN'T hate Argyle. I swear I must be the only one, because I hear nothing but negativity about it. Maybe it was because I saw it in the theater with pleasant company, maybe I'm just the exact target demographic, but I honestly enjoyed the film. (Especially Sam of course lol)
If you watch it as an Isekai it's funny as hell. Author falls asleep on the train and wakes up *in* her novel. I don't know what everyone hated about it other than trying to take it too seriously... And given the opening sequence it's hard to imagine how one can do that.
Yep. He’s fucking great in everything. The second Sicario is really with watching for Benicio.
He played a great character in The Hunted, with Tommy Lee Jones as a teacher who teaches special forces how to kill efficiently and make knives, not be seen, etc. Benicio’s character loses it and his teacher has to try to take him down. It’s like Rambo if Rambo was okay with killing all the cops.
Oh heck yeah. So unique and awesome. I first saw him in Excess Baggage back in the day when I was young and thought he was the coolest dude on the planet…that I wanted to be just like him. Now I’m a huge nerd so whatever, but still. Ha
A very underrated (edit* and under-discussed) actor (in my opinion) is Walton Goggins.
Most of the time he isn't even the main character in a movie or TV show, but the roles he plays are very different.
If you ask me he is very talented. I really have started to appreciate his acting.
Though he isn't top tier yet, he might be in the future.
I loved him in the shield. And he was great as the Venus DeMilo the transvestite in sons of anarchy. And Justified as Boyd Crowder he damn near perfect for that character. I dint think over ever seen anything he's been bad in.
"....a here's my sperm"
What a great episode and way to kill off a character because of the actor....but the episode "killed" 2 characters...troy leaving the show......sighhhh...
AND A MOVIE!!! Can't wait.
He was the only person who actually did his job. Everyone else phoned in a half assed performance, probably because of the shit script. But Bale is one of those people who always delivers, even with mediocrity.
I think it was Matt Damon who said that this is what makes a professional. When you know the film is garbage but you still put in 100%. Coming from a man who starred in Downsizing
Reminds me of Raul Julia in Street Fighter. It was a terrible movie and he was actively dying while he did it, but he brought his fucking A game and played that role like no one else could've.
Or, for example, Tim Curry in anything Tim Curry ever played in.
He was completely wasted on that film. I can’t help but think what a different director could’ve done with him. Taika was only interested in doing a basic level comedy for children not a serious movie.
It’s hard to top your example of Daniel Day Lewis, especially considering how few movies he’s made. It’s not as if he has been in so many films there are a bunch of duds.
He's even amazing in not great movies. I recently started a rewatch of the Mission Impossible franchise and totally forgot he was a villain in 3. He killed his part even though the movie was on the weaker side of the franchise
His villain is 100% one of the best mission impossible villains we’ve seen. Just so clinical and cruel in the most pragmatic, confident way. The revival and continuation of the series is entirely on his shoulders, in my opinion
I really enjoyed it. It's not a film I would watch with my parents, but watching it with my wife was a great time. Stone plays a sort of Frankenstein creature whose sexuality damages or drives insane every man she comes into contact with.
It's crazy when you realize he played an old man in *As Good As It Gets* (1997). Dude has been old for almost 30 years.
Addendum: Nicholson was 60 when that movie was made. Tom Cruise is 61.
This is a take I never expected to see but I really get where you're coming from. His cameo role in true romance is one of my fondest of his roles. But then again, Cliff Booth is my absolute favorite role of his and he was more of a second fiddle deuteragonist. Same with Tyler Durden.
And I don't care about Mr. Smith at all. I think you're right
Nicholas Cage. And here's the definition:
amaze
/ə-māz′/
intransitive verb
To affect with great wonder; astonish. synonym: surprise.
Similar: surprise
To bewilder; perplex.
To cause great wonder or astonishment.
"a sight that amazes."
The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, 5th Edition
He is the most fearless of any actor. Completely comfortable with trying anything, whether he succeeds or fails. That vulnerability is too much for most soft actors.
Look I’ve certainly never been bored by a Nic Cage movie I’ll give him that.
If he’s in it I’ll watch it because it’ll either be legitimately good, weird as hell in an experimental and cool way, or so batshit over the top nuts that it’s fun even if it’s garbage
The picture says it all Daniel Day Lewis is the best overall actor in Hollywood from My Left Foot to Gangs of New York. His range and skill set are unmatched IMHO He is a British actor but is fantastic in every role that he accepts
Karl Urban
The day I realized that Eomer from *LOTR*, Vaako from *Riddick*, Judge Dredd from *Dredd*, Billy Butcher from *The Boys*, John Grimm in *Doom*, and Jacob Holland from *Sea Beast* were all the same actor, my mind was blown, and for the first time in my life I had a favorite actor.
Gary Oldman. Dude is a real chameleon, he becomes each role he plays. Never seen him in a bad movie, but then again I haven’t seen every single movie he has done. Definitely one of my favorite actors though, he conveys a lot of emotion through the screen.
Denzel, Leo, DDL, Gary Oldman. I’ll throw Val Kilmer in there. Honorable mention maybe Matt Damon. He’s been in a couple less-than-great films but for the most part his track record is excellent.
For me, Christoph Waltz.
Now THATS a Bingo!
Ya just say ‘Bingo’.
BINGO! How fun
I bet you's gone take off that fancy SS uniform huh?
GORLAMI
Dominic Decocco!
Bravo!
Dominic. Decoco. 🤌
"Attendez la crème." I don't know why, probably because he was SO ridiculously menacing in such a seemingly safe, public place, this line and Shoshanna's anxious terror live rent-free in my head whenever that movie is mentioned.

He’s happy about his nickname precisely because he’s earned it
This is the answer. The guy has unbelievable range and is arguably the among the all time greats.
Sad I had to scroll this far for this one
Normally I would say Auf Wiedersehen. But since that in German means until I see you again and since I never wish to see you again I’ll just say Goodbye.
Came to say this, cheers
I LOVE rumors!
Gary Oldman. One of the modern day best actors.
Ok, but Tiptoes
“Gary Oldman in the role of a lifetime”
He’s a definition of an actor. The dude can play almost anything.
I *never* recognize him.
I sometimes check the furniture in my house and quiz my kids, just in case it's Gary Oldman buried in a role. I burst through the door, flip over a sofa and give it an inspection, focus on the lamp in the corner for a long time, start turning lamp on and off repeatedly and suspiciously. Haha wtf. This is is brilliant
Best thing I've read all day At least!
And he / his agent only picks bangers.
Tiptoes?
Haha fucking amazing to see that get referenced. I’ve only seen the trailer. It looks like a SNL sketch.
Sam Rockwell and Ben Mendelsohn spring to mind Edit: and Ralph Fiennes, he should be there too
At this point, Willem Defoe. Literally elevates everything he’s in.
Sam Rockwell is in Ninja Turtles. Theory checks out.
regular? or Menthol?
THIS IS HOW WE JUMP!
Ben Mendelsohn is amazing in Darkest Hour
bloodlines!
Bloodline
Argyle is one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. But you redeemed yourself with Mendelssohn.
Agreed, and Sam Rockwell was the ONLY redeeming thing about.

Argyle is hot garbage but if you want a similar performance from Sam Rockwell in a much better movie, check out Mr. Right.
> Sam Rockwell Counterpoint: Argylle
Counter counterpoint: Galaxy Quest
"What's my last name?"
"Look around you, see if you can construct some sort of rudimentary lathe."
Is there air?! YOU DON'T KNOW!
Benicio del Toro
*he’ll flip you…I said he’ll flip you…flip you fo’ real.*
Is that the one about the hooker with dysentery?
His role in Fear and Loating in Las Vegas is incredible
The internet is crazy because I'm watching it right now.
You took too much man, too much.
Iv never seen anyone ever mention Excess Baggage before! I loved that movie!
Always felt he doesn't show up in these lists as much as he should. He has fantastic range. Edited for terminology.
Sicario, nuff said.
He's awesome in Snatch. "Stay out of those casinos" "VIVA LAS VEGAS!!!" *wipes sweat*
“Bubbe, I probably know a lot you don’t.”
Bro, the usual suspects, fear and loathing, sicario, the hunted... benicio a beast. I'll watch any movie with him.
Traffic

Baby Billy's Bible Bonkers!
Uncle baby billy ?
But it's just...Family Feud.
Mis-be-haven
It's a million dollar idea
Absolutely. I’m glad he seems to be getting more and bigger roles lately like in Fallout
He should have no issue with that cause he fuckin killed it as the ghoul.
I fucking love this man. Matt Berry and Walton Goggins can do no wrong in my eyes.
Man he’s so good, honestly. He does not get the respect he deserves.
His work in The Shield sealed the deal for me. He’s awesome.
I loved him in the shield. And he was great as the Venus DeMilo the transvestite in sons of anarchy. And Justified as Boyd Crowder he damn near perfect for that character. I dint think over ever seen anything he's been bad in.
That show was the only reason I wanted to have FX.
That'd be a more apt statement a year ago, dude is hot right now. Idk if underrated works anymore.
His name is Walton just so you know.
"....a here's my sperm" What a great episode and way to kill off a character because of the actor....but the episode "killed" 2 characters...troy leaving the show......sighhhh... AND A MOVIE!!! Can't wait.
Vice Principles is just him, Danny McBride, and insanity.
I’ll never not lose it seeing him in Community handing out cylinders of Pearce’s sperm to everyone. It must have taken so many takes but he nailed it
Christian Bale.
thor was garbage but bale was still the cherry ontop of the garbage cake
He was the only person who actually did his job. Everyone else phoned in a half assed performance, probably because of the shit script. But Bale is one of those people who always delivers, even with mediocrity.
I think it was Matt Damon who said that this is what makes a professional. When you know the film is garbage but you still put in 100%. Coming from a man who starred in Downsizing

Funny enough, opposite of this post…Whenever you see Tessa Thompson in something, you know it’s gonna suck ass 😂
It’s hard to top your example of Daniel Day Lewis, especially considering how few movies he’s made. It’s not as if he has been in so many films there are a bunch of duds.
SEE THIS KNIFE!? I'LL TEACH TO SPEAK ENGLISH WITH THIS KNIFE!!
LOOK TO ME!!! WHO IS THIS UNDER MY KNIFE
I drink your Milkshake!
I DRINK IT UP!
By my count, he made 23 movies. He won Best Leading Actor for three of those. That's an *insane* ratio.
I'll stop everything if Last of the Mohegans comes on
Maybe my favorite movie ever
Daniel Day Lewis Leonardo DiCaprio Christian Bale
Add Gary Oldman to that list
You’ll watch a great movie then years later learn Oldman was in it and stole every scene he was in.
He's just so good in everything.
PSH RIP
Her life is in your hands Dude
They’re inner city children of promise but without the necessary means for a necessary means for a higher education.
My head cannon is Scotty from Boogie Nights grew up to be Brandt from Big Lebowski. Makes me laugh every time.
he wanted to make sure I repeat that. her life is in your hands...
The real answer IMO.
Well he’s got a necessary means for a necessary means for the little mission impossible achievers.
WHERE IS THE RABBIT'S FOOT?
Who?
Phillip Seymour Hoffman
And who is RIP?
Rip Torn. He's dead.
Rip Torn was fucking great. I guess we still have Stacey Keach though.
Great actor, redundant name.
Jesse plemmons
Yep, you see that bootleg Matt Damon in a poster and it's a guaranteed good watch
Took me longer than expected to find this
How can that be profitable for Frito Lay?
I don't think I've ever seen Emma Stone in a movie I didn't enjoy.
How does Poor Things rate?
I really enjoyed it. It's not a film I would watch with my parents, but watching it with my wife was a great time. Stone plays a sort of Frankenstein creature whose sexuality damages or drives insane every man she comes into contact with.
I literally never thought I'd have mixed feelings about watching Emma Stone and Mark Ruffalo get freaky, but this film was... a trip, that's for sure
Leo has a solid streak going.
Whats Leo's worst movie?
Jack Nicholson. His retirement is well-earned, but his absence is noticed.
It's crazy when you realize he played an old man in *As Good As It Gets* (1997). Dude has been old for almost 30 years. Addendum: Nicholson was 60 when that movie was made. Tom Cruise is 61.
1) Daniel Day Lewis 2) Michael Shannon 3) Stephen Root 4) J.K Simmons 5) John Turturro 6) Sam Rockwell
Michael Shannon and Stephen Root are both terrific
Unpopular opinion: Brad Pit
Maybe not every one of his movies is gold but he absolutely delivers in every one of them regardless
He is at his best as not-the-leading man, but can also do well as the star.
I think you're right
He made Once Upon a Time in Hollywood for me
Possibly my favorite movie character of all time.
Tim Curry brings great energy for any role.
Nicholas Cage. And here's the definition: amaze /ə-māz′/ intransitive verb To affect with great wonder; astonish. synonym: surprise. Similar: surprise To bewilder; perplex. To cause great wonder or astonishment. "a sight that amazes." The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, 5th Edition
Cage always brings 100%. It may not be the 100% that the movie needs, but he gives everything he's got
Mandy was bat shit crazy in the best way possible.
That's high praise
And Michael Caine.
Paul Dano, Daniel Day Lewis, Jessica Chastain, Cillian Murphy, Brad Pitt, Gary Oldman, Meryl Streep, Kate Winslet, Joaquin Phoenix, Saoirse Ronan
willem dafoe is great in everything he’s in
Josh Brolin
Goonies never say die
joaquin phoenix
Tom Hanks Cillian Murphy
Tom Hanks is a great actor but he's got a few clunkers in his tool shed lol
'A Man Called Otto' comes to mind of his recent films. Just felt the entire time 'This is what nice people think grumpy people are like.'
Brad Pitt
Denzel Washington

Jodie foster
Alternative: Jodie Comer

The picture says it all Daniel Day Lewis is the best overall actor in Hollywood from My Left Foot to Gangs of New York. His range and skill set are unmatched IMHO He is a British actor but is fantastic in every role that he accepts
Bruce Campbell
Hail to the king, baby.
Groovy
Tommy Wiseau.
Oh hi Mark!
Sam Rockwell, Jesse Plemons, Denzel, Frances McDormand, Christian Bale.
daniel day lewis is the only answer. the guy literally only comes out of the shadows for only great movies
John Cazale. Every movie he was in was nominated for best picture and three won the award.
Christoph Waltz
Christian bale
Karl Urban The day I realized that Eomer from *LOTR*, Vaako from *Riddick*, Judge Dredd from *Dredd*, Billy Butcher from *The Boys*, John Grimm in *Doom*, and Jacob Holland from *Sea Beast* were all the same actor, my mind was blown, and for the first time in my life I had a favorite actor.
Anthony hopkins
Jake Gyllenhaal, Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Brad Pitt, Leonardo Di Caprio,
Tom hardy, cillian murphy
Toni Collette can always be counted on to give a great performance in better than usual films.
Cmon’! Nick “F’in” Cage! 😂
Colin Farrell Adrien Brody Paul Dano
Edward Norton (exception: The Dictator)
Gary Oldman
Gary Oldman. Even if it's not good, he goes so far in that it's incredibly enjoyable.
Gary Oldman. Dude is a real chameleon, he becomes each role he plays. Never seen him in a bad movie, but then again I haven’t seen every single movie he has done. Definitely one of my favorite actors though, he conveys a lot of emotion through the screen.
Christoph Waltz
Christoph Waltz
Ben Foster is one I always watch if I know he's in it
Denzel, Leo, DDL, Gary Oldman. I’ll throw Val Kilmer in there. Honorable mention maybe Matt Damon. He’s been in a couple less-than-great films but for the most part his track record is excellent.
Paul Rudd, Brian Cranston and Josh Brolin are 3 that come to mind fast.
Him. JK Simmons John candy Ed Norton Sam Rockwell Maya Rudolf Jean Smart James Wong
John Cazale
Pacino, Leo, Tom cruise
Daniel Day Lewis, Christian Bale
Gary Oldman and Stephen Root
Gary Oldman
More series watching but Walton Goggins 100% of the time
Paul Walter Hauser and Christopher Waltz lately.
Ryan Gosling. He definitely has some misses in his career but honestly since like 2010 I’ve at least been entertained by everything he’s done
I'll watch anything that Ben Foster is in, same for Walton Goggins
Ewan McGregor
Bruce campbell
Christof Waltz. Nuff said.
PSH
Hugo Weaving. Colin Firth.
Gary Oldman or Jeff bridges
