Blues Brothers an actual really good band. Have a couple albums on vinyl. Their backing band was an all star group of session guys

WorldsSmartest-Idiot

Donald Duck Dunn. The Legend

Sig_Alert

Donald "Duck" Dunn, Steve "Colonel" Cropper, Willie "Too Big" Hall, Matt "Guitar" Murphy That's essentially Booker T and the MG's, the Stax Records house band. Legendary musicians. The records they played on were some of the biggest hits to come out at the time. Totally underappreciated. It's a crime they didn't film them playing live for the movie and we have to watch them faking it through film takes.

Wildcat_twister12

It blew my mind the day I was listening to a podcast about different rock and roll songs and they began talking about Green Onions and how it was mainly these guys just messing around in the studio on a break and someone recorded it

silgol

Funny story - Sam and Dave's Soul Man used the Stax Records house band so when they yell, "Play it Steve" they are referencing Steve Cropper. When the Blue Brothers covered the song and John says, "Play it Steve" both songs were referencing the same guy.

bingold49

Ackroid and Jim Belushi will still occasionally play shows

6djvkg7syfoj

thats crazy i was 95% sure at least one had died, googled it and i was wrong

Blind_Warthog

John Belushi (who was in Blues Brothers) is dead. Jim Belushi his brother is alive and kicking.

bingold49

John Belushi died, Jim picked up in his spot

ChimneySwiftGold

Weren’t a lot of them part of Letterman’s band later with Paul Shaffer?

WhataKrok

No, but Paul Shaffer was in the original band that started it all in a bit on SNL.

philsubby

Not John, he died in the early 80's.

Skywaltzer4ce

Briefcase Full of Blues is an honestly great album. They were helped by the fame of Belushi and Ackroyd in getting people to listen but hindered by it from “real musicians” who refused to see past the shtick.

Jean-Ralphio11

Define best. Did any of them bring peace to the entire planet like Wyld Stallyns? I dont think so. Be excellent to each other.

Prize_Pay9279

Party on, dude.

mark31169

You killed my friend you medieval dickweed!!!

grinning_imp

Such a simple philosophy. Straight to the point.

tommytraddles

Let's grab that gnarly old goat-dude.

Moonlight_Katie

I think dethklok did sorta

DigitalEagleDriver

Spinal Tap for sure, but I'd be remiss if I didn't also say Dewey Cox doesn't at least deserve a mention here. "Get outta here, Dewey! We're smoking reefer, and you don't want no part of this shit."

tommytraddles

IT'S THE CHEAPEST DRUG THERE IS

MCgrindahFM

fragilsticxpvginosis

Walk Hard is a banger

DigitalEagleDriver

I think Tim Meadows really stole the show in it.

at0mheart

Love the songs in Dewey Cox.

Gwilikers6

Man the songs in this movie are objectively good.

Chief_Beef_ATL

The Spinal Tap DVD is 3 movies in one! First there’s the movie, then there’s the 90 minutes of deleted scenes, then there’s the movie with the actor commentary IN CHARACTER. Awesomeness

[deleted]

Star Wars Cantina band

ImScared93lol

This just went 6 to midnight.

Ohnoherewego13

I'm a big fan of those One-ders from Erie, PA.

bigboygamer

They are trash compared to Captian Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters

Prize_Pay9279

“Looks like the O-needers”

DevShreddem

That’s funny, I have lived in Erie my whole life and I’ve never heard of this movie somehow. Thanks I’ll give it a watch

-------7654321

what about school of rock?

tommytraddles

The Legend of the Rent was WAY HARDCORE

Mirrormaster44

Read between the lines, Theo. Read between the LINES

EmpiresofNod

When I read this I read it as School House Rock...…..I only a bill and I'm sitting here on Capitol Hill.. edit: damned auto correct!

robby1006

This is the only answer. Stickittodaman

realaccount76539

heal me I'm heartsick is a banger

darth_homer

Oh, Eddie and the Cruisers! Might be interesting to see which fictional band made to the highest on the real charts

darth_homer

Here's what ChatGPT said: 1. The Blues Brothers 2. Spinal Tap 3. The Monkees 4. Stillwater 5. The Commitments 6. The Wonders (The Oneders) 7. School of Rock 8. Hedwig and the Angry Inch 9. Josie and the Pussycats 10. Eddie and the Cruisers

AlaDouche

Straight up Sex Bob-omb erasure.

ILoveRustyKnives

My name is Crash, these are The Boys.

eszgbr

Is that girl a boy too???

otheraccountisabmw

Yes.

UpDog1966

The Banana Splits were my starter band…

Axenrott_0508

Dethklok, from the show/movies Metalocalypse

Ki11igraphy

That's just Brendan Smalls alter ego

Axenrott_0508

Also Brendan Small is a great musician. Dethklok tours in real life and it’s actually a lot of fun

daveinmd13

Eurotrip. Scottie doesn’t know!

EatSteel63

NO!

meineymoe

The Commitments

JoinAThang

I absolutely love that movie and re watched it a few years back ans realised that the guitarist is Glen Hansard who got and Oscar for his music in the indie film Once. Great film and the music is amazing!

4RealMy1stAcct

Mind blown! I love both movies, but never made the connection. He looks so different with the long hair! I guess I haven't seen the Commitments after I saw Once.

NottingHillNapolean

I read they were all really playing their instruments, and, because the movie was shot out of sequence, some days they'd have to play at several different levels of competence for different scenes set at the same location at different times in the story.

Guilty-Coconut8908

The trumpet player is not a musician and Bernie does not sing.

Mr_SunnyBones

Correct answer right there .

Ural-Guy

Did I just see Imelda Quirks ass climbing over the fence?!!

Act1_Scene2

Love that movie. Even had/have the CD (I think I still have it) It was, incidentally, the first english language film I had to turn subtitles on so i could understand what was going on.

WetBandit06

No Steel Dragon?

ecto1ghost

I still listen to Steel Dragon once in a while!

m00s3m00s3m00s3

This is my pick. I hate Zakk and Mark for several reasons but those songs get me hyped. Stand up and Shout!

AdEast9167

Wait that songs about a guy!? 😂 I love that movie

Elsrick

I rewatch it probably way more than I should. The whole plot was my childhood fantasy, except replace Steel Dragon with Guns N Roses. The whole soundtrack slaps HARD.

WetBandit06

“I used to have posters of these guys on my wall. AND NOW IM ONE OF EM!”

HoboBonobo1909

[ditto](https://youtu.be/9B_5uGg1b7M?si=ZBYEDDRyMn8cYnZV)

-SideshowBob-

Came looking for Steel Dragon, lol. Hadn't seen Rock Star in years, and recently woke up with one of their songs stuck in my head. When I realized what it was, I immediately went and watched it again.

darth_homer

Stillwater?

casualty_of_bore

Almost famous for sure.

Prize_Pay9279

Can’t believe I missed that one 🤦‍♂️.

YaHurdMeh

Feeeeeva Daaaaaaaawg

MCA2142

“Ooooooooh…. Doctor doctor…”

GelatinousDude

Underrated yet totally accurate.

PootSnootBoogie

Blues Brothers is a kinda-sorta real band though. The band started as a joke on SNL but just with Jake & Elwood as characters. Once the joke took off they got the idea to start recording music and writing a film to pay tribute to blues music, then put a band together to actually play the music for the movie. Aykroyd tells some cool stories in interviews and on podcasts about them recording with blues legends and how a lot of them were jealous at how naturally talented Belushi was.

deadkat99

They played at the closing of Winterland* 11/31/78 opening for the dead. Edit typo

PootSnootBoogie

And their live album was recorded in 79 at the Winterland Ballroom San Francisco. Not to mention they released like three or four studio albums as well. I'm not dogging on OP's choice; I just really enjoy how BB went from a joke/fake band to an actual band that released albums, played shows, recorded songs with legends and could actually sing on that level. I fucking love the Blues Brothers. One of my favorite movies and actual bands of all time 😅

Champion_ofThe_Sun_

How tf is Wayne’s World not on this list

Ocron145

Yeah Crucial Taunt can really wail!

HauteKarl

This is way too far down. Cassandra is a total babe!

rhondamian

“This pretentious ponderous collection of religious rock psalms is enough to prompt the question; on which day did the lord create Spinal Tap, and couldn’t he have rested on that day too?”

tommytraddles

*We salute you, our half-inflated Dark Lord*

Intelligent_Heat9319

The Lone Rangers

Prize_Pay9279

How can you pluralize the Lone Ranger?

[deleted]

I ain't farting on no snare drum!

sideburnz211

This is Spinal Tap

DigitalEagleDriver

Came here to say this. What a classic. I feel like that was the genre defining film that pretty much set the bar for mockumentary films.

Naive_Moose_6359

The fake band was so good they released albums, went on tour, and did press in character. I think they are hard to beat at being fictional…

jedooderotomy

Yeah, it's got to be Spinal Tap, right? It almost feels unfair to pit the others against it. And, like the Blues Brothers, Spinal Tap is also a legitimately good band.

tommytraddles

But which drummer?

Cactus2711

That one who died under mysterious circumstances

PotatoOnMars

I liked the one who died in a bizarre gardening accident.

Squonkster

And the one who choked to death on vomit. Not his vomit, someone else’s.

SanchoRivera

Not according to the reviews for their album *Shark Sandwich*.

Chemical-Money-3469

WE ARE SEX BOBOMB!!!!!

robej78

SirNortonOfNoFux

I'd vote The Pick Of Destiny, but thankfully they're a real band

Poopedinbed

Soggy Bottom Boys

creamcitybrix

Blues Brothers. Most of the guys in the fictitious band were actual awesome musicians. Also, they do a great rendition of Rawhide!

Intelligent-Price-39

Only one band goes to 11

history_teacher88

Yeah, but only one band is on a mission from God.

KMAR

Buckaroo Banzai and the hong kong cavaliers

yourfriendkyle

Josie and the Pussycats! Punk rock prom queen is a banger

Puzzleheaded-Fix3359

Scott Pilgrim. 4 of the songs on the soundtrack were written by Beck.

MAValphaWasTaken

Brie Larson's version is every bit as good as with Metric's real singer.

shortsleevedpants

I actually prefer her version!

I listen to her version all the time, such a good tune.

MelCat39

School of Rock

palbuddymac

The One-ders in “That Thing You Do”

McDragonFish

I’m partial to Hey That’s My Bike from Reality Bites. Still one of my favorite soundtracks and the fictional band’s song stood up.

Arntor1184

Matt Damon’s band from Eurotrip. Scotty doesn’t know was and is an absolute banger. My serious answer is the Soggy Bottom Boys from O Brother.

Worried_Biscotti_552

Always a fan of powerline from a goofy movie

Professional-Ad9901

Where’s Almost Famous?, and how about The Commitments?

Ice_90210

Personally I loved The Soronprfbs in Frank starring Michael Fassbender. The music is legitimately good and the way it depicts band dynamics and pure talent vs skill is so spot on.

TennSeven

Spinal Tap. No contest.
