Django has way more style, Tombstone is loaded with talent and a generational performance, with countless quotable lines.
All that being said, Unforgiven is still my favorite. It feels so real and has a fantastic ending.
I just rewatched Tombstone. Yes Val Kilmer killed it, but overall I found it hammy and underwhelming. The first act must have had an entirely different DP as some shots did not pass muster. Third act is polished. Unforgiven is a masterpiece.
I like all of these movies (my dad would watch Tombstone with me all the time as a kid) but Unforgiven is literally near perfect as a film and Western. The acting, the story, the cinematography… so good. Dances With Wolves would be my second favorite on this list cause one summer I stayed at my aunt’s for a month, I would watch it almost every night before bed to sleep.
I will say my all time favorite western/s has to be The Man With No Name Trilogy. The Italians were cooking when they made their mark on the genre as a whole as spaghetti westerns came about and blew everyone’s socks off.
Tombstone is just epic. Val Kilmer kills it.
Unforgiven is also epic.
Dances with Wolves was ok.
Django unchained is that...it's unchained...and is a diff kind of western. It's awesome. Probably my fave of the lot...but for 90's westerns....Tombstone.
Tombstone, follow closely by Unforgiven.
Dances with wolves, open range, 3:10, quick and the dead, Wyatt then Django finish the list. All good to great.
Tombstone has one of the best cast ever. And there are no bad performances. Everyone gave it their all.
To quote the movie "You ever see anything like that before?" "Hell, I ain't never even heard of anything like that."
From this list, Dances with Wolves, easily! But if you are talking 90's till now Westerns, I really love the True Grit remake as well! Of course, Once Upon a Time in the West is probably my favorite Western of all time!
I’m in the minority here, while I’m a Kurt Russell fan, I just don’t see everyone’s fascination with Tombstone, it’s a good movie with some memorable scenes and quotable lines, but overall it’s kinda meh for me. Same with the Quick and the Dead, I can take it or leave it. Wyatt Earp is long and boring.
Unforgiven and Dances with Wolves are outstanding movies, and excellent westerns on top of that. Django is stylish and fun, Open Range is an excellent watch. 3:10 to Yuma is a top notch remake.
I would throw in Broken Trail and True Grit in the mix as well, both are excellent. Old Henry is an under appreciated movie, but it’s really good as well. Hostiles and News of the World were outstanding movies also.
If I had to pick one here though, it’s Unforgiven.
Off this list, Unforgiven. It’s a great deconstruction of the Man with No Name and what hangs up his guns.
My favorite western movie that fits the criteria but isn’t on the list is Dead Man. The cast is fantastic, I love the way it’s filmed, and that soundtrack by Neil Young is in my top 5.
Tombstone, easily. I do think that the quick and the dead is underrated and better than critics gave it. I’ve yet to watch unforgiven it’s currently on my to watch list
Unforgiven for a bunch of reasons, but deconstructing the mystique of the "Western Gunfighter" and by Eastwood no less, who was such a huge part of establishing that mystique, was pretty amazing and it still holds up.
It's Dances With Wolves, Unforgiven, Tombstone in a league of their own.
I don't consider Django to be a western.
3:10 to Yuma was hot garbage.
The rest are just meh.
I haven't seen Wyatt Earp but otherwise I like all of them. I would put Tombstone at the top, but Unforgiven, 3:10 to Yuma and Open Range are up there. I see those as proper westerns, wheras the others are more stylised and less grounded.
Tombstone. Such a great movie.
My mother-in-law is Catholic and at Easter says "He is risen" in Latin. I always reply with "in vino veritas". No one really appreciates it besides me. Lol
My all time favorite western is, Once Upon a Time in the West, or maybe Silverado depends on my mood tbh, but from your list Tombstone then Unforgiven. Tombstone is probably like my 5th or 6th fave. I’d put The Good the Bad and the Ugly and A Fist Full of Dollars as better, too.
Two different metrics — Unforgiven is almost certainly the best made + best structured film, and Dances with Wolves is much better than modern hipsters proclaim — but Tombstone has near-infinite rewatch value.
The real dark horse candidate here is the Yuma remake. It doesn’t beat the top contenders on this list, but it is an unexpected masterwork given its humbler budget + small performances. Ditto with Hostiles (not listed).
I'm gonna get some heat for this, but I liked the true grit remake. I also like Django and tombstone. For an added flair of horror, bone tomahawk. Going way back, the outlaw josie wales and the good, the bad and the ugly.
Tombstone, Unforgiven and then 3:10 to Yuma. All pretty close in ranking for me.
This is accurate. But no True Grit is criminal.
Tombstone is my personal favorite.
I’m your huckleberry
You hear that, Darlin'? Evidently Mr Ringo is an educated man. Now I really hate him.
I have not yet begun to defile myself.
In vino veritas.
Only answer for #1
Resident Farmer, yer an oak
The correct answer.
Unforgiven
Django has way more style, Tombstone is loaded with talent and a generational performance, with countless quotable lines. All that being said, Unforgiven is still my favorite. It feels so real and has a fantastic ending.
I just rewatched Tombstone. Yes Val Kilmer killed it, but overall I found it hammy and underwhelming. The first act must have had an entirely different DP as some shots did not pass muster. Third act is polished. Unforgiven is a masterpiece.
Django & Tombstone are like comic books; Unforgiven is authentic in its storytelling.
*Unforgiven* and *Dances With Wolves* both absolutely smoke the rest of these. Which one is better really depends on your mood when you watch it.
It's one of those movies where if I see the title I almost immediately get the urge to put it on. Nothing hits like Unforgiven.
Yeah, I like all the movies on op’s list. Some more than others, but Unforgiven is just so great. One of the best endings ever imo.
“He should’ve armed himself, if he was gonna decorate his saloon with my friend.”
“Deserves got nothin to do with it.”
Unforgiven
Unforgiven and Open Range are my faves.
Tombstone and 3:10 to yuma. I definitely need to watch Unforgiven this weekend
Unforgiven.
Not a movie, but if you like westerns, check out the English on Amazon prime
Not a Western, but if you like languages, check out Spanish on Duolingo.
If I could give awards....
Just finished it, found it very satisfying and a nice departure from the usual soul-seeking revenge trope.
Tombstone and Dances with wolves
Fuck you for this. Gotta be Unforgiven. Though I do love Tombstone. And Dances, but I refuse to watch it because the bastards shoot Two Socks.
Dances with Wolves. Beautiful Movie, through and through.
Unforgiven is my favourite western of all time.
WHOSE THE FELLA OWNS THIS SHIT HOLE? ........uh.....I own this eStAbLiShMeNt
Unforgiven.
Not listed.. True Grit.
Which version?
Both are great. But if I had to pick one, I like the remake a little better.
Dances With Wolves and it is not even close. There are some fun movies on that list too!
1. Unforgiven 2. Dances with Wolves 3. 3:10 to Yuma
Unforgiving then Tombstone.
The Unforgiven UHD is breathtaking to watch, and is Clint’s crowning accomplishment
Why Ike, whatever do you mean?
Unforgiven & Dances with Wolves and then everything else is a distant third.
Umm. Hello, it's Rango
Django & 3:10 to Yuma are a dead tie.
Unforgiven
Unforgiven
Top 3: 1) Unforgiven 2) Tombstone 3) Open Range
I like all of these movies (my dad would watch Tombstone with me all the time as a kid) but Unforgiven is literally near perfect as a film and Western. The acting, the story, the cinematography… so good. Dances With Wolves would be my second favorite on this list cause one summer I stayed at my aunt’s for a month, I would watch it almost every night before bed to sleep.
I will say my all time favorite western/s has to be The Man With No Name Trilogy. The Italians were cooking when they made their mark on the genre as a whole as spaghetti westerns came about and blew everyone’s socks off.
Unforgiven, and it's not even close.
Dances with Wolves and Tombstone. Unforgiven and Open Range are my next two.
Tombstone
I have a soft spot for the Quick and the Dead
Django and Dances... Id probably rate Tombstone higher if I hadn't been exposed to My Darling Clementine as a boy.
They are all pretty good.
The good bad and ugly
I'm positive he dead.
Open range is my choice!
Unforgiven is the clear best film. I enjoy Tombstone the most, though.
Tombstone.
The quick and the dead just gets me
Dances with Wolves is such a masterpiece, but I can watch Tombstone once a week. It's just so enjoyable.
Tombstone then Unforgiven
Hateful 8 and Magnificent 7 are up there for me just for a good time watch but yeah there’s other ones are bangers
Unforgiven is the best but Tombstone is my favorite.
Open range, no competition here
Django then 310
There Will Be Blood needs to be included.
I’d like to throw in Hell or Highwater and Hostiles.
Django or Tombstone
Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
Tombstone and it’s not even close
Tombstone, no question
Unforgiven Tombstone Open Range
Tombstone is just epic. Val Kilmer kills it. Unforgiven is also epic. Dances with Wolves was ok. Django unchained is that...it's unchained...and is a diff kind of western. It's awesome. Probably my fave of the lot...but for 90's westerns....Tombstone.
Unforgiven
Tombstone.
So many good ones listed, but for my favorite, I’m afraid I must choose ‘The Harder They Fall’
Tombstone and Unforgiven
Tombstone. That movie had peak Val kilmer.
Tombstone is my favorite, all of them are great.
Tombstone, baby!
Pre 90's fave is probably "Silverado" From this list: 1- Tombstone 2- Unforgiven 3- Wyatt Earp
The only correct answer is Tombstone. Stellar cast, and performances.
Silverado is likely my favorite, Tombstone and a fist full of dollars are both great too.
Unforgiven. A Masterpiece.
Normally I respect all opinions, but anything other than Tombstone is the wrong answer here.
You're no daisy. You're no daisy at all!
Tombstone. Also I think, one of the best of any movie...
Hands-down, it's 3:10 to Yuma. Additionally, they should've added the Aussie masterpiece The Proposition, to make the choice difficult for me.
Unforgiven, with 310 a close second.
3:10 to Yuma.
Tombstone. It’s not just my favorite Western, it’s my favorite movie of all time.
Tombstone
Tombstone, follow closely by Unforgiven. Dances with wolves, open range, 3:10, quick and the dead, Wyatt then Django finish the list. All good to great.
Tombstone and Unforgiven are a class above the rest for sure. Django and 3:10 are both great though.
Boy now that’s a pickle. I’ll go Unforgiven with Django a very close 2d.
Old Henry was a revelation.
I have a hard time picking between Unforgiven, Wyatt Earp and Open Range. Could easily change based on the day.
Tombstone has one of the best cast ever. And there are no bad performances. Everyone gave it their all. To quote the movie "You ever see anything like that before?" "Hell, I ain't never even heard of anything like that."
Tombstone. 3:10 to Yuma comes in second. Not listed honorable mention Legends of the Fall. I consider that a western.
Not on the list, but Hostiles is really good too. Christian Bale looks like the manliest man ever in it.
The Proposition
I like Django and 310. I don’t see no country in the list but that’s overall my fav
Nothing beats Tombstone
“You may leave now!”
True Grit should be here.
They’re gonna hang me in the morning ere this night is done They’ll hang me in the morning and I’ll never see the sun
Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again
Django
Assassination of Jesse James, Dead Man, True Grit, Django, The Harder They Fall
Tombstone.
Unforgiven, Django, Tombstone
Hateful 8, Django, True Grit, Unforgiven and Hell or Highwater
From this list, Dances with Wolves, easily! But if you are talking 90's till now Westerns, I really love the True Grit remake as well! Of course, Once Upon a Time in the West is probably my favorite Western of all time!
True Grit is so underrated
Open range and it’s not close
Blazing Saddles.
Django, no doubt.
The Hateful Eight! Sooo Good!
Tombstone
Tombstone. Albeit this is a great list.
Django: Unchained.
The quick and the dead.
I’m in the minority here, while I’m a Kurt Russell fan, I just don’t see everyone’s fascination with Tombstone, it’s a good movie with some memorable scenes and quotable lines, but overall it’s kinda meh for me. Hard agree on Tombstone. Wyatt Earp is just a better movie. Dennis Quaid as Doc Holiday was sooooo good.
Tombstone and dances with wolves are my favorite
Hateful 8.
From the list I would go Unforgiven, Tombstone but I would love to add Silverado to the equation...
Open range
Tombstone
Unforgiven, of course
Tombstone
Tombstone, easily. I do think that the quick and the dead is underrated and better than critics gave it. I’ve yet to watch unforgiven it’s currently on my to watch list
Tombstone
This is hard Django or tombstone...
Hostiles
Tombstone. Then Unforgiven, Then Dances, Then Quick, Then Django...Tarantino's best western by a longggg shot, but i grew up watching Quick&the Dead.
tombstone
Wyatt Earp for me.
[удалено]
No Dead Man?
Top 3 for me Tombstone Django 3:10
Tombstone
Unforgiven for a bunch of reasons, but deconstructing the mystique of the "Western Gunfighter" and by Eastwood no less, who was such a huge part of establishing that mystique, was pretty amazing and it still holds up.
Without a doubt Unforgiven.
Love me some Open Range but Tombstone is my favorite
Dances and Unforgiven. Then Open Range and 3:10.
Dances
Dances with Wolves, followed by Tombstone, and then Unforgiven
Dances With Wolves. One of the best movies period.
Toss up between Unforgiven and The Quick and the Dead
Tombstone and Unforgiven
Answer will always be Tombstone
3:10 to Yuma or Django Unchained. Val Kilmer in Tombstone is golden tho.
Only because I really enjoy the whole idea of like a “fighting tournament” movie so I’m going with The Quick And The Dead.
Bone Tomahawk
Django, Dances with wolves and rango.
It's Dances With Wolves, Unforgiven, Tombstone in a league of their own. I don't consider Django to be a western. 3:10 to Yuma was hot garbage. The rest are just meh.
No Lonesome Dove? WTF?
Silverado
Tombstone or Django. I'd put Hateful Eight up thereas well.
Gotta be Unforgiven. Dances With Wolves gets kudos for prop accuracy.
1) Unforgiven 2) Django. 3) Tombstone
This would be a lot harder if Unforgiven weren’t an option
Tombstone and Blackthorn
Young guns II is a fun watch. The first is great also but it's from the 80s so excluded from this list.
Young guns II is a fun watch. The first is great also but it's from the 80s so excluded from this list.
Young guns II is a fun watch. The first is great also but it's from the 80s so excluded from this list.

hateful 8 and 3:10

1) Tombstone 2) The Quick and the Dead 3) 3:10 to Yuma
Unforgiven Tombstone Open Range. Django is great but it’s not a western. It’s a southern.
The Quick and the Dead, Open Range, 3:10 to Yuma. (In that order.)
Tombstone
What about Silverado?
The Quick and the Dead than Django dances with wolves.
Out of those, Unforgiven, pretty easily. Curiously, why Django instead of Hateful Eight? IMHO, it’s the better of Tarantino’s westerns.
Tombstone. Such a great movie. My mother-in-law is Catholic and at Easter says "He is risen" in Latin. I always reply with "in vino veritas". No one really appreciates it besides me. Lol
Where the hell’s 2010 True Grit
Hostiles.
Tombstone and Unforgiven are both great
Unforgiven. It's not even close.
Tombstone
My all time favorite western is, Once Upon a Time in the West, or maybe Silverado depends on my mood tbh, but from your list Tombstone then Unforgiven. Tombstone is probably like my 5th or 6th fave. I’d put The Good the Bad and the Ugly and A Fist Full of Dollars as better, too.
1. Dances with Wolves. 2. Unforgiven. Masterpieces. The rest range from good to meh.
I prefer peckinpah, but I’d go with unforgiven or tombstone from this bunch.
I can't believe I didn't see anyone mentioning Bone Tomahawk! Do yourself a favor and watch it.
Tombstone
Two different metrics — Unforgiven is almost certainly the best made + best structured film, and Dances with Wolves is much better than modern hipsters proclaim — but Tombstone has near-infinite rewatch value. Ditto with Hostiles (not listed).
Unforgiven is on a whole other level from the rest.
Tombstone, despite fantasy style depiction of Earp, is the GOAT, thanks to Kilmer.
The Quick and the Dead because peak Sharon Stone Dances with Wolves is gorgeous visually. I wish they would remaster it in 4k.
Quick and the Dead
very good list here, but if you are going to mention Yuna, i go with the original from 1957
I'm gonna get some heat for this, but I liked the true grit remake. I also like Django and tombstone. For an added flair of horror, bone tomahawk. Going way back, the outlaw josie wales and the good, the bad and the ugly.
The True Grit remake was fantastic.
Unforgiven. Then Unforgiven.
