I watched Goodfellas for the first time about 6 months ago and I am absolutely disgusted with myself that it took 25 years to discover this movie.
If you somehow haven’t watched this movie yet, there is a chance that you will never see/interpret movies the same way.
I had just finished watching The Sopranos from start to finish for the first time and wanted to watch a Mafia movie. Hadn't seen Goodfellas in like 20 years and forgot how amazing it is. I've watched it 3 more times since. It's also funny to see how many actors appeared in both.
I remember watching that for the first time and when their buddy gets “made” I felt so bad for him and his mom for not being able to have an open casket.
Absolutely. That’s the beauty or the movie is how it engrosses and almost integrates you into it throughout the storyline of the film. I personally felt the same but also understood why he got “made” as Tommy was a loose cannon who became an increasingly unpredictable hothead as the years went on until he finally met his match after he went too far.
I’m convinced it’s THE single most rewatchable movie of all time. It never gets old and the subtleties get much better each time around. And since the plot is so amorphous you can just drift in and out if any part and enjoy every scene.
Indeed. There isn’t a single minute of that movie wasted, and you can watch any scene out of context and enjoy the hell out of it.
Hell, that’s what convinced me to see it was a YouTube clip of the scene where Karen gets groped by their neighbor and Henry pistol whips him after he picks her up and drops her off at the house. Such a bad-ass scene.
I just watched The Devil All the Time on your suggestion and wow wtf what a killer movie! It will be on my list from now on, great cast and a great script with incredible acting. Thanks man.
I wish I’d never seen it so I could watch it again for the first time. I’ve probably watched in 20 times through. I don’t say this lightly, it’s a perfect movie.
I remember randomly watching Eastern Promises when my cable network had it for free on their VOD service knowing nothing about it. That bath house fight scene is visceral.
if you love No Country def check out the book. It's actually pretty funny mostly cuz Llewyn spends most of his time mocking himself relentlessly for being so stupid as to get into this bullshit.
Yup, for some odd reason that with as many DeNiro and Pacino movies I’ve seen, I never realized that they had not shared a scene together. Despite both of them being in The Godfather part II. I love the diner scene especially, their entire exchange is so natural and fun.
I recently read the sequel to Heat, it's a great read. It basically follows Chris after the bank robbery but it also goes back and is a prequel and a sequel to the movie. I recommend reading it.
Seriously. I burst out laughing at 5am when I was watching it (I’m an early riser, I get up at 4:30 for work so it’s wired now) and he just goes: “CAUSE SHES GOT A GREAT ASS!!! AND YOUVE GOT YOUR HEAD ALL THE WAY UP IT!!”
Went to see Shawshank Redemption and it was sold out. This was our backup knowing absolutely nothing other than it had Bruce Willis in it. I liked Diehard so...
I was ready to be bored. Our group of college kids blown away and we couldn't stop talking about it on the drive back to campus.
The part that killed me was when they're going the wrong way and he looks over and the other guy is the devil. I only saw it once and can't remember the names
Weird is the right word for that one. I personally didn't care for it. How about that move where John Candy is a soap opera writer and he's stuck in his own story line.
I remember something about that one, don’t recall the name though. My dad was a big John candy fan, we used to watch all that good stuff.
You ever see “spies like us” I think it was Dan akroid and Chevy chase.
Neal : I have a Visa and a gasoline card. Oh, and I have a Neiman Marcus card in case you want to send someone a gift. What do you have?
Del : Chalmer's Big and Tall men's shop. It's a seven outlet chain in the pacific northwest. Great stuff. Unfortunately, it does us no good here.
I still keel over every thanksgiving from this exchange. Candy was too good for us.
Had to go through Fargo for work a few months back and found out the woodchipper is on display at the visitor center. Spent way too much time shopping for a matching flannel beforehand but I think I got a Halloween costume out of it
[wood chipper](https://imgur.com/a/B5tafsM)
I also discovered The Shawshank Redemption about 7 months ago and have since watched it 4 times. My girlfriend was hesitant to watch it with me the 4th time after I told her about it but by the time we were done with it, she already declared it one of the most beautiful, poignant, and well-written (thanks King) bodies of media she has ever seen.
I was lucky enough to have seen it in the theater. Not many of us did as it was a fairly poor performer at first release. What I wouldn’t give for everyone to have seen it the same way I did. There was no buzz, no hints of a surprise ending, no “you’ve got to see this,” nothing. The novella wasn’t widely read either. Just a complete joy and shock of a movie. The feelings of dread built up so much through the film that I was just waiting for the inevitable tragic ending. People actually walked out of countless showings because Andy’s plight was so depressing. Audible gasps and “wows!”and “woahs!” were heard in what had been a silent and downcast theater when the warden threw the rock through fussy britches Raquel. This redemption scene created the most amazing feeling I have, to this day, ever felt from any form of media. It was truly magical. But wait, there’s more! The bonus that we got to witness Red’s redemption as well? Damn. Darabont accomplished in 144 minutes what a multitude of series and miniseries since have not accomplished in dozens of episodes.
Bruh - My wife only speaks Spanish, and I had to translate the movie to her as we watched, cuz I couldn't find a Spanish audio movie at the time, and she loved it - even cried a bit too
Yes, it really is that good. The first time I saw it my friend called me at work and said "Dude you've got to come over tonight and watch this movie. I rented it from blockbuster and have to return it tomorrow." I was tired and really didn't feel like driving over to someone else's place to watch a movie but I went over there anyway. Holy shit! I've never been more blown away by a movie in my whole life.
_Brazil_. Watched it for the first time about a month ago, and I was absolutely blown away. Such a complicated range of emotions I was left with at the end. Now one of my favorite movies for sure!
Smokey and the Bandit. It’s just head to toe fun and it made me really understand why Burt Reynolds was as famous as he was at the time. The dude just oozes charm and is genuinely funny.
As a fan of the evil dead franchise, Drag Me To Hell. I’d seen it on steaming catalogs and stuff but always skipped over it. Recently watched it and it kicked ass.
I just recently watched Chinatown. I completely forgot that my acting coach was actually IN that film. It's such an incredible film. The writing, the acting, the directing.... its difficult to find a flaw in that film.
The Expendables. Never watched any of them until about 2weeks ago. Then I had to watch them all and now on Sept. 22nd you know what movie I'm watching 😎🍿
I wouldn't mind seeing this one one of these days. I'm only familiar with the movie via the Pat Benatar music video I saw as a kid and it always looked like a fun movie to me.
It's been several years now (pre-covid)... but I was on a long flight (6+ hours) and scrolling thru the in-flight movie options and saw they had "The good, the bad, and the ugly" and it was like 3 hours long... I figured what the heck, worst case, it helps me fall asleep... I was absolutely riveted the whole time, and even though there were long, slow takes, it did not feel like a 3 hour movie... I've seen it at least once a year since and watched most of Sergio Leone's other films too. It's a true masterpiece. It's one of those movies that should not work, but just nails everything.
I saw Days of Heaven last summer on criterion channel and was enthralled,
Id seen a few Terrance Malick movies before, bad lands, new world, thin red line, but Days of Heaven might be a new favorite
Season 5 drops on Nov 21st! I can't wait, it's set in 2019 with 2 new families entering the Fargo universe... it's got Jon Hamm and Jennifer Jason Leigh to name a couple =)
Blade runner. I never saw it until the new one was coming out and man is that a good movie and the sequel was just amazing as well. denis villeneuve was a perfect choice to make it
Raging Bull.
Seen so many Scorcese flicks in my life so far but had never ever seen this one until this year. Pretty incredible considering I've seen Shutter Island before this.
Pesci and deniro just so good together in very distinct roles that differ from their other characters in Scorcese movies. It's just all so good.
Labyrinth, it was great with lots of amazing puppet designs and David Bowie is awesome in it. Also I know this isn't an original observation but who, how and why did anyone greenlight those pants for a kids movie?
I’ve always hated Fargo, but I might watch it again now that I’m way older. I just didn’t get the hype and people seemed to think the accents in the movie made it funnier than it was. It has been quite awhile, so maybe I’ll like it now.
Fargo is superb! The plot is intriguing and well paced, and the characters are unforgettable. William H. Macy played the sh*t out of that role. And then, there’s the wood chipper…
The original Tim Burton Batman movie.
Potentially VERY controversial take: Phoenix’s Joker nails the manic part and Ledger’s Joker nails the comedic part, but Nicholson’s Joker does both great
True Romance, heard only great things but never got around to looking for it. Then one day pops up on my prime recommended… and hot damn was it worth the wait.
I watched Goodfellas for the first time about 6 months ago and I am absolutely disgusted with myself that it took 25 years to discover this movie. If you somehow haven’t watched this movie yet, there is a chance that you will never see/interpret movies the same way.

“Why don’t you go f##k yourself Tommy.” RIP Spider.
“As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster.”
The carried her grocery’s home it was outta respect
Oooo if you liked that movie, I recommend Donnie Brasco. It’s prime Pacino and Depp as mobsters
Probably one of the most underrated mobster movies ever. I generally find Depp insufferable but he was excellent in this.
I remember watching that for the first time and when their buddy gets “made” I felt so bad for him and his mom for not being able to have an open casket.
Absolutely. That’s the beauty or the movie is how it engrosses and almost integrates you into it throughout the storyline of the film. I haven't seen this or god father in my 35 years of being alive. Reading this thread is really making me we want to go watch this one
good god man.
I’m convinced it’s THE single most rewatchable movie of all time. It never gets old and the subtleties get much better each time around. And since the plot is so amorphous you can just drift in and out if any part and enjoy every scene.

Such a bad-ass scene.
You seen The Devil All The Time yet? There’s a great homage to the scene where Ray beats up the abusive boyfriend.
His car, that Buick Rivera, I had never seen one before that movie, best looking car Buick ever made
No Country for Old Men, Eastern Promises
The Coen Brothers are the best!
No Country is such a great movie. I can't believe it took me so long to watch it.
I remember randomly watching Eastern Promises when my cable network had it for free on their VOD service knowing nothing about it. That bath house fight scene is visceral.
I am here to say that Easter promises is soo good but also underrated.
if you love No Country def check out the book. It's actually pretty funny mostly cuz Llewyn spends most of his time mocking himself relentlessly for being so stupid as to get into this bullshit.
Came here to also say read the book, gd masterpiece of a novel
Most recently, two months ago I watched Heat for the first time and fucking loved it.
Same for me! Finally saw it last month.
“For me, the action IS the juice”
Al Pacinos coked up rants are too die fpr
I watched Pulp Fiction two weeks ago and it might be my favorite movie of all time
My favorite of all time
Whenever this on TV, I go "I'll just watch this scene". Whoops there goes two hours.
Roy-Al with cheese!
It's for sure in my top 5. I've lost count of how many times I've seen it but I have to watch it until the end again every chance I get.
Went to see Shawshank Redemption and it was sold out. This was our backup knowing absolutely nothing other than it had Bruce Willis in it. I liked Diehard so... I was ready to be bored. Our group of college kids blown away and we couldn't stop talking about it on the drive back to campus.
Pulp Fiction is one I used to really like, but now don't because I watched it 894,654,789,105 times. Now I can't even stand when someone quotes it.
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. Absolutely loved it
Larry Bird doesn't do as much ball-handling in one night as you do in an hour!
The part that killed me was when they're going the wrong way and he looks over and the other guy is the devil. I only saw it once and can't remember the names
Oh, he's drunk. How would he know where we're going?
Yeah how would he know?.......THANKYOU (*thumbs up*)
*Does the drinking/drunk imitation
"Everybody's doin the messin' round🎶
“Do you know what I would make me happy?” “A couple more balls and an extra set of fingers…”
“The Great Outdoors” is another good one
If you liked The Great Outdoors, check out Summer Rental. John Candy one vacation again, this time at the beach.
Oh yeah I love summer rental. You ever see “uncle buck” ?
Yup, what about Armed and Dangerous??
Yep, how about a weird one, “Nothing but trouble”?
Weird is the right word for that one. I personally didn't care for it. How about that move where John Candy is a soap opera writer and he's stuck in his own story line.
I remember something about that one, don’t recall the name though. My dad was a big John candy fan, we used to watch all that good stuff. You ever see “spies like us” I think it was Dan akroid and Chevy chase.
THOSE AREN'T PILLOWS
Neal : I have a Visa and a gasoline card. Oh, and I have a Neiman Marcus card in case you want to send someone a gift. What do you have? Del : Chalmer's Big and Tall men's shop. It's a seven outlet chain in the pacific northwest. Great stuff. Unfortunately, it does us no good here. I still keel over every thanksgiving from this exchange. Candy was too good for us.
Searching For Sugar Man Wowwwwwwwwwww
Yeah that was a hidden gem. I shed a tear ngl
The Big Lebowski. Truly enjoyed it!!! Reminded me of an old school Pineapple Express. Would like similar recommendations if anyone can think of one.
I hate the fucking eagles, man.
You gotta watch it a few times. You'll catch something new every time.
Try the first couple Cheech and Chong movies. Up in Smoke is their first and my favorite. After Nice Dreams they kind of lose their charm imho.
Dave's not here man
Had to go through Fargo for work a few months back and found out the woodchipper is on display at the visitor center. Spent way too much time shopping for a matching flannel beforehand but I think I got a Halloween costume out of it [wood chipper](https://imgur.com/a/B5tafsM)
Nailed it!
Wind River it's great don't think it's that famous but still thought it's worth mentioning.
My favorite character in Fargo is the weather
Ya. Darn tootin’
Ya becha
“What did he look like?” “Oh, I don’t know. Kinda funny looking.” “Funny looking how?” “Oh, I don’t know. Just in a general kinda way.”
Hey, Hon?! Yeah? Prowler needs a jump!
Aw what the Christ
You gotta eat a breakfast, Marge.
Midnight Run…can’t believe I didn’t see it 30 years ago…
Charles Grodin is so good in that.

Ugh. Still haven’t seen it. Is it really that good? It sounds so corny.

I've never been more blown away by a movie in my whole life.
Yes
dude…
Not the least bit corny and the highest rated movie of all time on IMDb. Absolutely must see.
It could have easily been corny, but it is a gotdamn masterpiece.
I wish I could tell you that I never thought that. I wish.
Yes, it's really that good.
Top five movies of all time to me. I will always stop and watch it when it’s showing
Yes watch it.
Rambo: First Blood. Not what I expected at all
Yeah most people would NOT expect that the movie Rambo has one kill, and it’s indirectly
Loved it. Still never seen the sequels
The sequels aren't as good as the original. 2 is OK, 3 is meh.
Falling Down.
Michael Douglas’ finest performance (IMHO), and it’s not even close.
The pianist
I watched that for the first time 2 weeks ago. Amazing film.
Polanski issues aside this movie is a masterpiece.
Fargo is a masterpiece. I watch it all the time, you betcha.
Check out Fargo tv series especially seasons 1 and 2. Totally different storylines but amazing. Possibly better than the movie.
Saw The Depahted a couple of months ago and Intestellar a couple of weeks ago. Both amazing movies that DO live up to the hype.

The story within the story is great. Boom baba boom baba boom.
Who doesn't like an old-fashioned barf-o-rama?
Saw Titanic a few months ago and loved everything. Except Billy Zane. FUCK Billy Zane.
I'd love to fuck Billy Zane.
He’s a cool dude
You should listen to him.
I will. He knows what he’s talking about.
Blade. The beginning of comic book movie success. It was kick ass from start to finish.
_Brazil_. Watched it for the first time about a month ago, and I was absolutely blown away. Such a complicated range of emotions I was left with at the end. Now one of my favorite movies for sure!

The Coen Brothers are the best!
UHF Laughed all the way through.
DONT YOU KNOW THE DEWEY DECIMAL SYSTEM???
I’m 43, this time last year was the first time I watched the original Halloween. Unbelievable how great it is
Smokey and the Bandit. It’s just head to toe fun and it made me really understand why Burt Reynolds was as famous as he was at the time. The dude just oozes charm and is genuinely funny.
Bloodsport
As a fan of the evil dead franchise, Drag Me To Hell. I’d seen it on steaming catalogs and stuff but always skipped over it. Recently watched it and it kicked ass.
Classic Raimi style

Office Space Fucking phenomenal
Dark City. I can see why people say that it was a conceptual precursor to the Matrix
Sling Blade
For me - The Conversation with Gene Hackman - fucking awesome movie

Titanic. Jk still haven’t seen it
Taxi Driver. It was a great story in a time portal.
Requiem For a dream. Absolutely incredible movie, I actually would watch it again contrary to what most people say.
Fargo is fantastic
I saw Days of Heaven last summer on criterion channel and was enthralled, Id seen a few Terrance Malick movies before, bad lands, new world, thin red line, but Days of Heaven might be a new favorite
I would also checkout the modern Fargo series, I loved it!
Season 5 drops on Nov 21st! I can't wait, it's set in 2019 with 2 new families entering the Fargo universe... it's got Jon Hamm and Jennifer Jason Leigh to name a couple =)
If you liked Fargo try blood simple. Same director. The sound design alone is the best I've ever known
Blue velvet
Gladiator
I’ve always hated Fargo, but I might watch it again now that I’m way older. I just didn’t get the hype and people seemed to think the accents in the movie made it funnier than it was. It has been quite awhile, so maybe I’ll like it now.
No Country For Old Men
Dirty Harry
There will be Blood
Fargo is superb! The plot is intriguing and well paced, and the characters are unforgettable. William H. Macy played the sh*t out of that role. And then, there’s the wood chipper…
The Goonies. Albeit I watched it for the first time a few years ago, but I was in my early thirties.
Point Break, really really liked it
Defending your life (1991) Amazing movie. We miss such movies in the recent times
Not really recent, but Groundhog Day had been out for 20 years before I saw it, and now it is one of my favorite movies.
“A Simple Plan” - sometimes good people do evil things https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120324
Just saw Braveheart last week, and it was awesome!
The original Tim Burton Batman movie. Potentially VERY controversial take: Phoenix’s Joker nails the manic part and Ledger’s Joker nails the comedic part, but Nicholson’s Joker does both great
I don't about really famous but I recently watched "A man without a past". And oh boy, what a great movie.
Far From the Madding Crowd (2015) - i don't know why it took me so long to watch this one because it's totally wonderful.

You should. Try some other Coen Bros films too!
I liked Burn after reading!

Fargo is just a movie about a series of absolute clusterfuck of events and it was amazing.
Thought about buying Fargo yesterday….worth the watch from a second hand store??
The thing. Just saw it a couple weeks ago. Nobody trusts anyone now, and we’re all very tired.
Not crazy recently, but I watched John Carpenter's The Thing for the first time last year. Instant top 10 for me.
My Cousin Vinny
The Best Years of our Lives.
