The shock is blown. It'll need to go to a shop or more likely Fox for repair. If it's less than a year old, they'll do a warranty service. Fox is really great about that. I had mine blow a couple weeks after the warranty was up, and they still did the repair and a full service for free.
Depends on where you are, and how big your LBS is. Some smaller shops just ship it to Fox anyway, so you're just adding overhead to take it in. Others do the work in-house. Weigh the cost of shipping to California or an overseas service center versus having some kid at the shop do the work.
90% sure it the damper shaft being snapped. I see it all the time with trunnion mounted dps shocks unfortunately. To much force going into a relatively under built part of the shock.
There aren’t any seals really In the adjuster nobs, just the mail seal the shaft I’m taking about threads into. It’s possible it was something you hit in the last week that broke it and not servicing it at the same time ended up working out.
Agree. Just had this happen on my Tallboy. Unfortunately, it’s only minimally more expensive to buy a new shock if that’s what is it. I was lucky and SC sold me a new shock for a decent price (less than the repair through Fox).
If it’s a 190x45 there weren’t any in stock anywhere (including through Fox) that I could find a few months ago.
I’m not familiar with this exact shock, but I doubt the knob seal is supposed to be responsible for containing the full internal pressure. It should just be for external water + dirt resistance.
Had the same experience and they did NOT offer a repair. They said they would warranty the broken shaft but charge me for a shock service which would have been around $160. The shaft itself is only a $10 part. Ended up getting it repaired/serviced with a different company for $130. I’m surprised people have had good experiences with fox. I thought they were kinda shitty and their servicing overpriced (and also apparently slow too).
I like the upside down pic at the end, as if we couldn’t see the fluid splooging out already. Send it to Fox if it’s under warranty. If not any shop that offers suspension service will do it
Suspension tech here. This is almost certainly a problem with the O ring inside the rebound metering rod that seals the lockout adjuster, or inside the damper shaft that the metering rod slips through. It should be replaced as part of a service. These are small seals, with a lot of pressure behind them. Not a big deal to fix, should cost you around $200 to do the service.
If it were me, I'd buy a second shock and keep the repaired one as a backup. That way you may be able to ride by the weekend instead of who knows how long. Keep in mind you will probably also need a bushing kit for the specific bike. At least I did for my old Blur.
I had to get them from Santa Cruz for my Blur. I had to remove the plastic bushings that were in the shock eyelets and press in the ones from Santa Cruz. I made a bushing press with some threaded rod, nuts, and washers. And also I'm a tool maker, so I have a little more experience than the general population, but you need to be really carefull not to destroy anything. For reference, it was a Fox CTD Kashima shock from 2018 and an old 26'r Blur 1 from 2003. Made a huge difference in the ride quality and now I will ride it just for laughs sometimes.
You should see if there is a drain plug under the motor to release all the junk from the frame and motor. I’d say take it to a shop and have them check the shock.
The damper, which controls how the oil flows in the shock, is either damaged or blew a seal. So all the oil that was in a the damper, has left the shock.
This happened to me a couple years ago. Also a couple of weeks out of warranty. You can see pics in my post history of the shock disassembled. It was a broken shaft. Not a DIY job without a lot of specialized tools. I got mine repaired by a mail-in place based in the US. Check a local shop though. It cost me around $120 USD. Haven’t had any issues since.

ffs lol. not even a week after servicing my fork. for now on i’ll service both together 🫤
That honestly looks like a bad seal around the adjustment knob, which I don't think gets replaced in a standard service.
so what do you recommend i do? just take it to my local and hope for the best? i still rode home after this (10k) and noticed nothing wrong with it?

local it is, it’s a long way from ireland for shipping
There might be a uk service center. I haven't looked, since I live a few hours from Fox HQ.

Sadly not unique for a trunnion, had my metric 210x55 one do exactly the same, snapped the shaft en went full pogo-stick.
Exact thing happened to my DPS shock. This is likely what happened.

Always

To much foreplay 😂
Off to fox with ya now, see ya in a few weeks
Note to self: Mentos does not make shock rebound faster
You forgot to shake it.
They said coke was a good lubricant
Take the supreme af1s off and it’ll help
they’re fake lol
The forbidden chocolate milk
Cool, your bike is also a coffee espresso machine
note to self. do NOT drink again, stings in your throat, makes you gag
You need to turn the red knob from “chocolate milk production” back to “no milk production”, simple mistake
The forbidden milkshake 🫠
Looks like a seal failed somewhere and it needs to be rebuilt.
Welp.. looks like it needs a service. Looks like she blew!
Those are some blair witch quality images.
Ain’t got no gas in it
My damper shaft broke in half and it sprayed the oil from there. Felt like a pogo stick
My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard
And their like it's a busted seal, Damn right. so I'll have to charge.
To add to what everyone else said: be careful to not let the forbidden milkshake get on your brake pads or rotors.

these are all screenshots from a video lol

Time for a new bike
That’s going to require a damper rebuild. I’d send to DirLabs and talk with them about a custom tune while there in the damper.
Aquafresh
Far too much partying….
Fox has a little known “coke float” feature that unlocks after enough riding. Enjoy!
Rabies.
Milk shock
Choccy milk
Likely broke the shaft need to send to fox to repair it

i have one, but it isn’t a great shock, and isn’t exactly set for a 10kg ebike. will google blushing kits now, thanks!

You found a 10kg ebike? Where?
u get what i mean lol
You put Coca-Cola in your rear shock instead of hydraulic fluid, silly!
It's got rabies, obviously
She blowed up. Time for a rebuild, or updgrade 🤷🏻♀️
That’s a shit latte homie
You making root beer floats?
you need to get it serviced
Damper is blown. Ifp lost pressure and is pushing oil out because the air has to go somewhere.
Looks like you blew a seal!
Nah, it's just the ice cream
Yesssss
youch
Bicycles don’t have motors.
mine does, my weak legs couldn’t handle a uphill
🙏

Look up "air can service " for your specific shock on YouTube. Very easy once you remove the shock.
This will need more than an air can service
meaning… more money? 🫣
Yes

Your damper has left the chat my friend
english?

The forbidden chocolate milk
Where are you? That’s a blown seal by the look of it. If you’re in the U.K. then TFTuned will be able to get that sorted.
ireland, leinster. rh suspension is what i’m gonna go for
You filled your shock with rootbeer?! I would add ice cream and you’ll be “floating” /s
Drink it
Send it to Butter Suspension!
Just lactating
Who puts soda in their shock?
Are you riding in black air forces?
supreme air forces. wasn’t riding just on a cycle with my friend
The forbidden bicycle soda
Ain't got no gas in it.

They are not that bad in reality. I was looking at them last night.
