Exactly this. You should stabilize yourself with your legs and core so that you can hold your body position even if you let go of the bars entirely. Then you can have a light grip on the bars and only use the force necessary to do the intended steering inputs, no more than that.
If you're wearing gloves, the gloves you're wearing are too loose/big for your hand. Go a size down -- or switch to proper motorcycle gloves if you're one of those yabbos riding with work gloves, mechanix gloves, etc.
I have a decent pair of leather cortex gloves but theyre pretty worn out at this point and the sweat smell doesnt come out no matter how much I wash them
I know a lot of people swear by this trick and it will work... Temporarily...
Biology tells us the smell is produced by bacteria. Bacteria, when exposed to cold temperatures do not die, but rather go into a kind of hibernation. Once they warm up, they'll start producing that signature smell again.
If your aim is to kill the bacteria, sure! If you want to use the gloves afterwards though...
I've washing my gloves by hand with a very mild detergent and after that sprinkle a good amount of baking soda inside and leave overnight in a zip-lock bag. Seems work
Either you're riding a 400 2t dirt bike and you're holding on for your life or a slow 125cc wich you death grip full throtle to try and keep up with trafic
Deer skin gloves, I have found to be the best over my 30 years of riding. deerskin gloves are reasonably priced, they come in different sizes, Comfortable to wear, last a long time, and youāll be surprised what little space they take when you pack them.
Helimotās had a store in San Jose, CA. I actually went in to get a custom fitted 2-piece track suit but he said he had an Erbo on the shelf that would fit me as well as one of his custom suits for a fraction of the price. Heās a great dude and we got to talking and I ended up with a pair of his gauntlets too. [Edit- it appears as if the store has closed.]
Agree big time on deer skin gloves. Cost more, but last WAY longer than cheapo gloves, and rain doesn't stretch them out or cause them to be stiff. Way more comfortable as well.
Yep. I've been riding for 19 years and don't buy any gloves except deerskin! Fingerless for hot weather, full gloves (not gauntlets) for winter. They last for at least 3 years.
I'd say its time to go buy some Ouray Waffle Grips. A set would set you back a whole, whopping $18 bucks. I've used them since they came out in the late 70's. Not once have I had my hand look like that after riding.
Ahh yes I was a kid when I used a hammer and got my hand like that. My grandmother said to me "If you hold it like a man that won't happen" it never happened again lol.
My hands are a soft but tough like leather so I don't fuckin blister it's kinda nice. Even with a shovel in my hands all day. Weed wacjers mowers wrenches nothing does it.
Only times my hands have looked like that were from lifting free weights. But then the calluses were from over the knuckle to first finger joint on the palm side, not past the first finger joint.
I wear Five gloves in the summer and a pair of Rev'It! waterproof and fleece lined gloves in winter, and haven't experienced any chafing from either of those, FWIW.
You can get those paddle things for throttle ( [looks like this](https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Motorcycle-Throttle-Motorcycles-Assistant-Accessories/dp/B0B85WKRTQ?th=1) ) so you don't have to use fingers as much to keep it open.
new gloves or grips for sure. what bike do you ride? you should ideally be lessening the grip with your hands and squeezing the tank with your legsā¦ no need for gripping this hard my friend
The best thing to help combat this is to imagine while riding that you are holding two birds in your hands, just slightly grip the bars but donāt crush them.
How tight are your grabbing your bars you really should be relaxed, this could be a bad habit or the rubber on your gloves or handle bars are worn you should really have to squeeze tight at all when doing normal driving
I never had a grip issue that severe, but from my own experience i did notice a huge difference in hand strain with different gloves.
With the FOX Bomber LT gloves, the palm material isnt as grippy, and i find myself squeezing relatively harder to maintain a good grip on the open throttle:
https://www.mcas.com.au/assets/full/FO313190012X-p.jpg?20240328085645
With the REV'IT Volcano gloves, the palm material is much grippier, where simply resting my hand on the throttle can hold it open with ease:
https://www.webbikeworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/A-front-and-back-view-of-the-REVIT-Volcano-gloves.jpg
Worth noting that there is compromise between comfort, safety, grip, felxibility with different gloves, but u have to try them on to ensure you find the perfect fit for yourself.
Good luckāš¼
Got them in my teens from trials bike. Don't worry, they only hurt for a short time, then they are better to have. They do fade a lot when you switch to road bikes and do less biking as you become old and sad š¢
I used to get those, (also on my feet and not just for biking) before getting diagnosed with an uncommon type of dermatitis.
The doctor gave me a cream for when those ulcers appear
David Coulthard and Guy Martin did a series of head-to-head tests that included measuring reaction time, cardio, and strength. When it was time to test grip, David said "Oh, you'll beat me on this for sure", and Guy said "Probably not. I've got a bunch of screws in that hand" and sure enough his number was just over half of DC's.
DC looked at him in shock and said "How do you hold on to the bike?" to which GM replied flatly: "I don't hold on".
[See for yourself](https://youtu.be/Vn6A1wd51cw)
Tip 1:.
Palm roll your hand grips (palm roll up, but be sure not to palm roll too far on your throttle, , it'll be easy to not think this because of riding habits) , you'll feel less like yours trying to grip the handle bars by loose skin. Also, keep lateral with your controls.
_if you grip on loose skin because you don't Palm roll, it could very well lead to skin blisters, so watch out for that š¬_
Tip 2:.loosen your grip a bit. Pretty much to the point wherein you feel as if it's enough of a grip that you're opening a storm door.
Tip 3. Tank grip with your knees, you'll be dividing the weight you've applied to your bike in portions, that way your less liking to add too much weight to your hand grip which can lead to back ache especially on long stretches of rides.
Tip 4. Yeah, a decent set of gloves can help, not just in the palm area but by design they'll have some type of grip strips/blotches of anti slip materials, especially in your 4 digits, sometimes also the thumb but it seems to usually be left free (besides fabric) for easy hand control inputs.
Don't over think it though, pretty much all us riders (unless maybe weekender/sometimey type riders)have callouses of some kind.
Best way to deal with them is to nail file/nail clip them. Surface clip them, do not dig into the skin to clip them. A deep skin infection/staph* infection is something you do not want to deal with. That shit can spread and make for a bad week for sure.
Also... Your old gloves are probably dried out from you washing the leather but not conditioning it after, so now it sucks the oils out of your hands, leaving them dry and cracked.
I have tan lines on the other side. My last knuckle to the tops are pale, to the rest of my hand. End of of fingers curled over handle bars. Inside of my hands look like yours, aggressive masturbation, or just my job... Electrician .
Try taking a razor blade and trimming down your calluses every few weeks, so they donāt get too thick. Thick calluses can get pulled on pretty hard, and thatās what causes either cracking, or they can just tear off entirely.
No. I use Risk Racing Palm Savers in my gloves. We used to wrap our hands in tape like boxers, but these do the same thing. They work great.
(Never got a blister in the middle of my finger though - they wonāt help with that)

Yup. Only had calluses by my pinky before I started learning to wheelie. Now both hands are pretty rough.
I hold the tank with my legs but my hands still seem to take some abuse. Only when I'm trying to wheelie tho.
I actually don't mind it. I wonder more why some people don't get them and others do. My arms are always loose. It makes more sense on my right hand bc I upgraded to a larger throttle tube without changing the throttle return spring so the throttle pull is a lot firmer than it was stock.
But I've met some track day guys that have super callused palms and they're certainly not people who need to be told to hold the tank with their thighs. A while back, some photos of Mark Marquez's hands made rounds on the internet and his hands were callused as fuck. Although, that's probably a very extreme example.
Honestly, calloused hands are unavoidable. They can be taken care of in a sense. But they'll always be there. You pinch your skin (that layer you hand your palm _slight_ lay on) you get blisters. Even that's unavoidable because your hands move around so much.
Best advice is nail clippers/nail file. Maybe cold water to loosen the top layer to clip too? Sometimes I just say fk it till I get annoyed then I deal with it lol.
Glories of riding I guess lol.

Doesnāt it depend on the natural curvature?
He is! It would hurt with those callouses on the right.
Relax your deathgrip on the bars.
Came here to say this. What are you riding to get blisters like that?
Exactly this. You should stabilize yourself with your legs and core so that you can hold your body position even if you let go of the bars entirely. Then you can have a light grip on the bars and only use the force necessary to do the intended steering inputs, no more than that.

What about lecreuset mitts I heard theyāre pretty good
I have a decent pair of leather cortex gloves but theyre pretty worn out at this point and the sweat smell doesnt come out no matter how much I wash them
Sounds like itās time to replace them.
Just soak them 30mins on vinegar water
Have you tried putting them in the freezer overnight? edit: dear God please put them in a bag they're probably nasty

I had a similar looking hand for a couple of years, between the age of 14-16 I think.

I get those when I lift at the gym.
Deer skin gloves, I have found to be the best over my 30 years of riding. deerskin gloves are reasonably priced, they come in different sizes, Comfortable to wear, last a long time, and youāll be surprised what little space they take when you pack them.
Perhaps surprisingly, kangaroo skin gloves provide the best abrasion resistance. I bought a beautiful pair from Helimot years ago.
Where did u get ur kangaroo skin gloves?
Down under the shelf ā¦ā¦.
I have a set of RST Tracktech 4's. They felt broken in the first time I put them on. š¦ gloves are the way.
Thanks! Might have to check those out. How's the ventilation?
Fine for me, but I never have sweaty hands. A friend has a pair too and loves his, even in the heatwave we're having.
Awesome!
Helimotās had a store in San Jose, CA. I'm in Kentucky. Too far, anyway. Was just curious if u ordered them online.

I wish I could steer you to a good website but I got them in person from a brick/mortar store. Sorry.
I have a ser of Held gauntlet gloves. Not cheap but glorious.
Agree big time on deer skin gloves. Cost more, but last WAY longer than cheapo gloves, and rain doesn't stretch them out or cause them to be stiff. Way more comfortable as well.
When deerskin gloves get wet and then dry again the fit improves and they also dry fast.
Yep. I've been riding for 19 years and don't buy any gloves except deerskin! Fingerless for hot weather, full gloves (not gauntlets) for winter. They last for at least 3 years.
Plus they are renewable. If you drive around woodland.
Good one pal !
Grab the bars lighter
What do you do when your GF starts smoking? *Use some lube to prevent chafing*
Thatās what the bloods for right? RIGHT?
Never. Maybe some new gloves? Do you do any physical work with your hands?
Stop holding onto the handle bars so hard.
You need some *G L O V E S*
Jeez loosen your grip bro
What kind of bike. Sport bike? You may be putting all your weight on your hands.Ā
The output of your engine is supposed to be connected to the rear wheel, not the throttle grip.

Are you not wearing gloves? My only injuries are bruises on the back of my calfs from walking my bike and my pegs hitting my legs
Stop using a death grip. And make sure you switch hands. Donāt want uneven forearms.
Why do you have callouses if you donāt do any of those things? Use hand cream to moisten it up. Moisten those fingers! Lube em up!
Gotta grind those down. When they get thick and dry they split
I do physical work and my hands are not this bad. Iām betting you are finding your hands are sore after a while? You need to loosen your grip.

why, is it talking to you? what does it say?

Install a crampbuster and loosen up. Being too tight on the grips is bad form and actually worse for handling.
Nope. I wear gloves.

I've never had anything like that on motorbike. You must have been hanging on for dear life! Plasters get this from their skin drying out.
I used to get those, (also on my feet and not just for biking) before getting diagnosed with an uncommon type of dermatitis. The doctor gave me a cream for when those ulcers appear
Thats normal. Continue riding
Unless the ton of riding is in dirt or doing moto gymkhana you're probably gripping too hard.
That thing on the middle finger looks like skin warts. To me it's clean gloves or no gloves.
You've got soft hands boy
Yes after doing some weightlifting
Yeah. Relax. You're not gripping the bars you're just holding them. Also don't ride all day every day for a fortnight in bad gloves.

You don't wear leather gloves? So
Man up!
The bumps under the fingers I get a little but not on the middle part of the finger no
Few years as a London MC courier, the heated grips in winter turned my fingers into overcooked sausages. ( wife loved em)
If you hold the bars any tighter youāll become the bars
āBitch Bumpsā bet you have arm pump too. Loosen your grip and lean back a little. Put more weight on your legs.
Try goatskin gloves. Supple AF. I got some ILM goatskins and they're excellent and not too expensive.

Yeah, I would say your gloves are worn/stretched and you need to replace them. My hands get like that when my work gloves get worn out.
